Aaron, Mara, Kim and Jay, were four young friends and housemates. Travis however, had trouble written all over him from the moment Jay invited him to stay. Although he was the most attractive young man in the house, Jay wasn't the brightest spark in the fire. Aaron was a typical lovable nerd, and the most intelligent of them. Though having a thing for Mara for the longest time, she'd always just thought of him as a friend. Mara was the aspiring model of their little band. Of outstanding beauty and of African American descent, she was very physical. She was also more intelligent than her friends had ever been willing to credit her. Then there was Kim. A pretty but very insecure young woman with long brown hair, she'd often break into a stutter. One day like any other, they came into the possession of a mysterious device. At first promising to fulfill all of their dreams, an exciting new world soon opened before them. Would they go on to discover a rich and satisfying life? Or are they cursed to learn the unpleasant truth? That while traveling through time is really easy ... surviving the experience is something else.
Eternity’s Echo is a sci-fi book written by Evan Hirson. It talks about a group of friends: Aaron, Mara, Kim and Jay and their housemate which nobody likes, Travis. Aaron is an intelligent guy who knows a lot about technology, Mara wants to be a model and a girl who hides her intelligence, Kim refuses to leave her room because of her fears, Jay is a nice and goofy guy who is struggling to find a job and Travis is a troublemaker.
One day Jay stumbles upon a mysterious device which is actually a time machine from the 24th century. Each of them has an idea what to do with it. Soon they realise that time travelling brings dangerous consequences and it’s not something you should take so lightly.
I’m a person who likes reading science fiction books, time travel intrigues me. Sadly Eternity’s Echoes didn’t quite fulfil that intrigue. Although I find the overall story very interesting, it also let me want more. The time travelling parts were really fast paced. Maybe it would be more interesting if the group of friends had more adventures on their journeys to the past. Something similar as the cartoon Time Squad on Cartoon Network, just not so childish, something more mature would be appropriate. This cartoon was loads of fun!
Because of the shortness of the book, not only the story itself left openings, but also the characters were a bit underdeveloped and because of it, as a reader I couldn’t connect with them which left me not caring about what happened to them.
Though, I have to admit that at the same time the story line was really interesting, some plot twists left me baffled and excited about what’s going to happen next!
Overall, I think it’s an interesting short read, perfect for summer reading.
