I can't. I can't listen to anymore "we should we shouldn't" crap. it's ok to say it at first but enough sophie. you're not as beautiful or gifted as every other person on the planet. we get it. he has still picked you...though I have no idea why. you whine all the damn time. and have we forgotten amidst this tiresome "romance" that you're supposed to be searching for a missing child. your nephew. the only family you have left in the world. annoying af. I'm done.
glad it was free.

After Sophie's sister Kate is killed in a car accident she becomes the legal guardian of her young nephew Toby. One day a stranger turns up on her doorstep and what he has to say will change her and Toby's lives forever. This news takes Sophie and Toby to a Parallel World they never even new existed and when Toby's is kidnapped as an act of revenge it's down to Sophie and her new acquaintance Ahran to track him down. This is a story that had me hooked from the beginning with twists and turns, secrets revealed and also some romance I will definitely be recommending this book and can't wait to read the sequel.

Absolutely loved it! Gripped by this book from beginning to end, could not put it down. Not the kind of book I would usually read, but thoroughly enjoyed every second. As you read you can see the characters evolving and feel that you are right there with them and the writing is so descriptive that you could actually close you eyes and visualise the scene. It's also great to have a female lead that I can actually relate to! Would love to see this book made into a film. Can't recommend this book enough.......I'm waiting with bated breath for the next!

I received a free copy in exchange for a honest review.

This was a good idea, but does appear to drag on slightly and unfortunately the story ends with a cliff hanger.
Never my favourite way to finish a story as it feels this is just an attempt to make you purchase the next in the series.
I will not be bothering.

I only survived to 38%. Maybe it's just me, but if your nephew (who you've raised for the past year because your sister died in a tragic accident) was suddenly KIDNAPPED by a powerful, vengeful bitch from a parallel universe, would you be more focused on your conflicting emotions for an engaged "super sexy" man? I tried to muck through this book, I really did. I made as many excuses for the main character, Sophie, as possible. But when she just WOULD NOT QUIT her teenage-esque behavior with Ahran, I threw in the towel! Maybe it gets better as it progresses. I'll never know.

Oh no, I hate fantasy...but wait! This is really good!

I am not big on fantasy stories, but when I started this book, I was immediately drawn in. So when the story of Tagan came into the picture, I was already too hooked to stop reading, I just wanted to know what would happen next. I think I would love living in Tagan's country! A grew book with a great plot.

I managed to finish this book, but I have no interest in finishing the series despite the cliffhanger ending. Too steamy for my tastes and a lot of drawn-out romantic angst between the main characters.

Adventurous tale

An intriguing story had me hooked from the beginning. A grieving woman tries desperately to protect her nephew during extreme and surprising twists & turns. Classic good vs evil told in a unique way

This was so unexpectedly different than other science fiction stories and I loved it! The heartbreak of loss for both characters makes your heart ache yet it's this loss that brings them together. The old adage of children stealing your spotlight certainly is true because Toby is such an integral part of their love for him and each other that the story is enriched with his character! This story has jealousy, kidnappings and a strong independent woman and a warrior with a heart of gold that keeps each page flowing effortlessly. Can't wait for more!

Unexpectedly Intriguing

There's s book has been in my TBR like for some time, it has most definitely been unexpectedly intriguing. Very catchy story and the characters are so well written.
There's a lot of descriptive writing which really transforms a story and transports the reader into a fantastic world- and in this case it's literally another universe!
Well crafted story, now into book 2...

Great book, a little concerned in the beginning when the fantasy/sci if element came in but once you suspend your belief it is a lovely story. It really draws you in & the characters take you along on their journey & it finds you really wanting to know more about them & routing for them. Can't wait for the next instalment from Amelia

Good but not great

This story started off great. However I prefer less inner dialogue and more interaction between characters. The characters, to me didn't seem to connect or likable. Toby was however the best part but only have a small portion. Tagan part was questionable.

Love this story! What I liked best is that it was not just a love story, but a story on what makes family. Planning on reading her next book!

When it takes three WEEKS to get through two chapters ... shortish chapters, too?

Sophie does have very strong ties with her nephew and good friendships with the gals who work at the coffee shop.

But that first chapter was like a dump of information. Seriously? It should be woven into the story. Not dropped like a hot pancake. The tender moments of spending an anniversary death date became less heart pulling and just mundane to learn about Toby being an "oops" or the sister being negligent and getting pregnant. So sympathy kind of went out the window.

Did we really need so much emphasis that she's irresponsible and not a morning person? In her thoughts?? Oh, before that, we realize she's flaky and loses stuff (her Kindle). Okay, so, yeah, we sympathize with poor Toby she's her guardian.

The play by play of her nightly ritual. Spare me? Okay, so she has an unexciting life. She claims she never lets anyone get close, yet melts with a text.

Like no she ever knew or dated was sentimental or decent? *eyeroll*

“And you’re reading book?"
Have you heard of an editor? *your

And why dafuq was this needed:
“I wasn’t happy about having to buy stock from the Cash and Carry, it went against all my principles of only using local produce but I was left with no choice after being let down by one of my usual suppliers.”

Nothing led to her needing to shop for anything. She didn't meet anyone there. She didn't lose her Kindle there. So wtf? Nevermind. I get it. Word count quota.

And the last STUPID thing I remember reading was when Audrey told Sophie “I told him to come back at lunchtime. He didn’t come back though, did he?"

Right. Cuz working in a coffeeshop or in food services means lunch hours or dinner hours - hell, breakfast hours - are slow enough to chat or handle business??

For anyone who thinks "keep reading, it gets better", I say, "If you eat something and it tastes awful ... do you take another bite?" No, you throw the shyt away and ask for your money back.

Not sure why all the high ratings...

I read this thru KU. 1st this book has cheating vi both h & H. If that bothers you, thus tale isn't for you. Second, the author struggles to give h & H their own voice...regardless of who is speaking it sounds the same. Third, there are some things that are just too unbelievable-- e.g., Sophie constantly thinks of Ahran 1st instead of her missing nephew, which could work if it came from grief but it doesn't, it comes from lust & selfishness. There are also several diatribes about earth musmanaging its resources to the detriment of the human race. The worst of them was eye roll worthy-- the author takes aim at preserving food with chemicals and shipping it everywhere. This is a necessary thing because (a) climates differ and (b) humans need access to different foods for better health (e.g., I live in IN so without citrus fruits shipped in from CA or FL (etc) I would have scurvy. The author makes this rant but offers not solution in Ramia as the climate do differ, notably with Bazheera having a lesser desired geography.

The upshot is that the idea is interesting. I stuck with it because I'm hoping the story will get better. I don't know if I will ride out the whole series or not.

3 stars.

This book had so much going for it and thus I was so disappointed when it failed to come through.Sophie has custody of her nephew Toby after her sister was in a tragic accident. The father was just a no show so when his cousin shows up telling Sophie she and Toby are in imminent danger Sophie is not too inclined to trust him. But as things progress it seems Ahran(the cousin) is correct and something must be done and quickly. Pretty good so far and the adventure begins but starts to get a bit quirky when every woman seems to 'wilt' in Ahran's presence. Then we have Sophie herself who is so conflicted, full of angst over her attraction to Ahran and just salivates every time she views his chest, his long legs, his tight ass - well you get the drift. And that goes on and on until you want to scream "Get on with the story already" This 'fatal attraction' just takes away from what could have been a really interesting story and that did it for me. I read the book to the end but will not read another.

I have mixed feelings about this book. The book is well written, but the character development is lacking for the protagonist, Sophie. She is very insecure and it just continues even after the handsome Ahran chooses her. The main plot really is about her nephew, whom she raised after her sister died, is kidnapped and taken to a parallel world. She's so focused on being hot and cold with Ahran and consistent with her insecurities, that she loses sight of that. It's almost like an after thought that she remembers the journey she and Ahran are on is about saving her nephew. Her inner dialogue about herself gets very old. It's hard to believe she's a grown woman who ran her own business and raised her nephew. Sadly, I didn't see any growth for a woman supposedly coming to terms with her feelings to go back to square one every time.

Thanks goodness this book was free. It ends on a cliff hanger, but I have no desire to continue the series.

Annoying

I didn’t expect the guy that came into her life to be from another planet...that was the first disappointment. Then I thought I could just give it a chance since I didn’t expect to like a vampire love story but liked the Twilight series. That was not the case here. Sophie was so insecure that it truly became annoying...really annoying. Then, to top it all off, the guy she falls for turns out to be engaged, but no clarification was made on whether or not he planned to marry the girl or not before they became intimate. That’s not cool. A big part of the story was finding her kidnapped nephew, who, by the way, was the only family she had left, but she seemed more interested in fighting off the attraction for Ahran or not fighting it. Her inner battle of should I or shouldn’t I was exhausting and irritating. I read over halfway but ultimately couldn’t finish.

I picked up the first book in the series shortly before Christmas and finished the last one two days ago. It's a long time since I devoured a series so fast! I'll admit it took me a bit to get into the characters in the first one and I was a bit nervous about where the tale was heading with the mention of other worlds and portals but I was swiftly hooked. The characters leap off the page at you from early on. I loved Ahran! If only there were more Ramians in the world!
There were times when Sophie exasperated me as she can be riddled with self-doubt at times but then it struck me that I had become totally immersed in the plot! Highly recommend this whole series and wish that Ramia existed......sigh

After her sister’s death, Sophie must now care for her nephew, Toby, also known as Tagan’s child. Suddenly, the two are in grave danger, and Sophie learns that the boy was “special and unusual.” Mmm, interesting.

The danger ploy was obviously intriguing, making me wonder about the mystery behind Tagan and his child. I mean, what was all the commotion? Who were they? And why did they want to kill the boy?

Like I said, this was an interesting premise…for the first few chapters. Unfortunately, I could not get past the lagging pace, which was deterring. And the fact that this war was due to some government conspiracy was lame and confusing, and it did not help the story any.

I downloaded Tagan's Child as a free ebook from Amazon. I have to say, the slow-pace and mundane conversations made this a really tough read for me. The writing was good, and the overall plot was interesting, but the lack of action and the bland characters made the story drag. I intensely disliked that Ahren kept pressing Sophie for intimacy, even as she kept saying no and citing his relationship status. No means no. The book also has an abrupt, cliffhanger ending that doesn't resolve any sub-plots, let alone the main story.

Pure escapism

Raising her nephew after the unfortunate death of her sister, a stranger comes to town telling Sophie she and her nephew are in danger.
So much I want to say but can't because I don't want to spoil the story or plot.
Writing and characters were ok. I found parallels with a certain children's book.I
Wanted the pace to speed up a little bit this one ends on a cliffhanger.

Disappointed

I hate when you've suffered through an entire boring book only for it to get interesting in the last chapter. The stupid thing ends in a cliffhanger to push you to buy the second in the series. Well this girl isn't falling for it. The characters aren't interesting enough to invest more money and my precious time on.

Cliffhanger

Be warned, this ends in the midst of a tragedy. I hate when that happens! We do not see what happens. The storyline is good, and the characters entertaining. But no ending, so if you want to read the next four installments, enjoy!

I couldn't finished it

Sorry but I didn't feel a connection with the characters.
What's the point of creating a character from a new universe if that new universe is gonna be the same as planet earth.
I really tried to give it a try but I just couldn't finished reading the book.
