This Lumberjack's Wood is Long, Hard, and way too Hot to Handle! Grady Cole is as rugged as he is sexy. He lives in a remote cabin in the woods with his baby daughter. The last thing he expects is a beautiful, innocent girl, lost and alone, to fall into his life. But that's exactly what happens. Out hunting, he finds a girl unconscious in the snow.
Autumn Lane is nineteen and out on her own for the first time. She's homesick, vulnerable, and completely alone. When Grady brings her back to his cabin she feels things she never knew she could. She's attracted to the strong man who has offered her warmth and safety. She wants to feel the touch of his coarse hands on her smooth skin. She wants him to be her first.
Grady craves Autumn like the mountain wolves crave their prey. He knows it's wrong. She's nineteen and he's thirty. She came to him for protection. She trusts him. But he can't help it. He's been cold and lonely too long and needs her to keep him warm at night. He wants to devour her, to possess her, to make her cry out his name and beg him to keep going.
Is she the one who can heal his wounds, bring his heart back to life, and give his baby the love and care she so desperately needs?
Lumber Jacked is a hot and steamy romance about a man who craves a woman's soft touch, and a woman who yearns for the strength and grit of the man on the mountain. It is intended for adults and contains a very satisfying, happy ending!
This was pretty awful. The writing was sloppy. The author had good intentions when it came to plot but it wasn't well executed. The timing behind everything felt off. The choice the characters made were awful and unrealistic. Most characters were unidimensional, other were just crazy and absurd.
I almost didn't finish it, but I had a little hope things would improve. They didn't. I will list a few things that are unrealistic, but keep in mind, these are just a few of the many things that don't make sense. First, Grady Cole finds out he's a father of a six month old daughter, and he didn't even know it! He thought his unborn daughter had died in a car accident along with her mother, so neglected to follow up with the hospital after the fact. I mean, he didn't bother to go to the hospital? No one bothered to find him? Second, when he picked up his 'new' daughter, he got a car seat, but didn't bother with diapers? Come on!
And when it came to Autumn, the author kept giving the impression she was smart but she turned out to be so naive (and stupid) to trust a crazy couple like that. Apparently, the couple owned an inn and needed someone to help with the cleaning and the cooking. They promised to send her wages to Autumn's mother, but after months of working there, they never did send the money. Honestly, I don't think anyone would be that stupid. And to find a job so far away from your dying mother? The economy isn't that bad. She probably would have done better working at a Taco Bell. The couple was abusive and ridiculously amoral. Come to think of it, Autumn's aunt was also crazy and really didn't make sense. So many things didn't make sense.
On another note, you would think the romance between Autumn and Grady would save the book, but the sex scenes added very little to the overall quality. Too random, too frequent, badly executed.
I'm done. The book doesn't need to be analyzed any more than that. Just don't buy it. Don't read it.
This is the first book that I have read by this author. The story left a lot of unanswered questions. Why is this nineteen year old girl so sheltered? The aunt is a real pill and never gets punished. The two hotel owners just weird. What's up with the wolves? I'm confused.
What in the world did I just read? It was the strangest story line, strangest characters, and just plain out strange. It didn't flow, it didn't mash, and it didn't make any sense. The Aunt Shirley alone was the most messed up , vindictive , wishy washy character. She made no sense , and honestly she shouldn't have been in the book. You could have just chalked up to perverted old man. I keep trying with Chance Carter books, but once again I am let down. And I do hate to say this will be my last Chance Carter book. What in the actual hell did I just attempt to read?
It's like the author grabbed a bunch of darts, pegged it at a dart board and decided to write every genre that they managed to hit.
We had action, we had possible paranormal, we had a scandalous age difference (not really), we had BDSM erotica, we had splashes of virgin romance, with a dash of single Daddies. There was creepy old ladies who perved in holes at men and masturbated, wicked witch Aunties, we had creepy old men with spanking fetishes, we had people with cancer who can't afford treatments, yearning for pussy's, lots and lots of wooded forests and references to wolves every five minutes.
And he's conveniently rich.
You're confused? Me too.
Autumn is a too fragile for this world mousey virginal girl. In otherwords: TOO DUMB TO LIVE. How she made it alive to see her 19th birthday is beyond me. How can anyone be so damn clueless? Honestly she had the personality and survival skills of a plank of wood.
I call Autumn a girl because she is. She is DEFINATELY not mature enough to be a woman.
No woman in her right mind would stay in a job where she is forced by threat of spanking to wash her employer's cum soaked panties after watching her boss masturbate to the guy she has a crush on through a peep hole.
That's fifty shades of fucked up people.
Grady's the big bad saviour who is a tortured soul of the Mr Rochester type. Proud, moody, cynical, with defiance on his brow, and misery in his heart, a scorner of his kind, implacable in revenge, yet capable of deep and strong affection.
A cardboard cookie cutter cut out of every other brooding bad ass I've read about in the last two years. Seriously can anyone write a H who isn't a sad nut case that needs the saving of a good woman anymore?
The main characters had no connection at all. Autumn was about 12 years old mentally and Grady needs therapy.
Actually I need therapy as this has REALLY put me off going to any Bed and Breakfast hotels in the future in case some creepy woman is looking through a peep hole at me in the shower while rubbing herself.
I REALLY liked Lumber Jacked by Chance Carter. It is a story about an older tattooed single dad and a much younger innocent woman. Grady moves to out of the way Destiny, Montana to start over. He is thirty and has just been notified that he needs to come pick up his "thought to be dead" 6 month old daughter Destiny.
Autumn is nineteen and has moved across the country to take a job at a hotel to help pay for her mother's medical care. She meets Grady when he checks in to the hotel and there is an immediate attraction. Although being treated badly by the owner of the hotel and his wife she tries to keep a positive attitude but one day they go too far and she quits, leaving the hotel with only the clothes she is wearing during a winter storm and is found by Grady.
This is a satisfying, sweet and intensely, sexy read with a little bit of creepy thrown in. I liked both Grady and Autumn and I loved their chemistry, it's super hot. The setting of the hotel is perfectly gloomy and really sets the stage for that part of book. As always, Mr. Carter's writing style is so smooth and draws you in right from the start and keeps you hooked to the end.
This was awful. It probably should have been a did not finish but I was waiting for something to happen the entire book and then it was over. It was weird and usually that is fine but this was like strange, creepy weird and all the characters seemed to be fine with it, like it was normal. A lot of it didn't make sense, at a point I thought maybe I missed a book before it but from what I could find I didn't. And the sex, please I didn't get it, the movements made no sense to me, and what could have been a steamy scene was vastly downplayed and thoroughly disappointing.
I've got a few books by Chance Carter on my shelf but this was the first I've actually read. I was not impressed. Very unrealistic situations and dialogue which I can tolerate in some authors but his writing just fell flat for me for some reason. I doubt I'll be reading the others.
I am so embarrassed to even write a review for this book because then there is proof that I read it. If I could have given it less than one star I would have. The master and mistress were vile and disgusting. The aunt was a crazy wench. The mother was even a bit creepy. You can tell it was written by a man; milk for a 6 month old….no mention of pain or discomfort after her virginity is taken. This is just the tip of the iceberg. Needless to say, this is my first and last by this author. A skimmer for sure. Thankfully it was a Kindle unlimited.
A great heartwarming 🔥🔥 romance from author Chance Carter. Fitting way to close out the Naughty Boy series. I always wondered what happened to Grady of the Brotherhood and this story ties up things with a great HEA. Lumber Jacked answers all my questions about where did Grady go? Autumn needed a family and Grady became her saviour then so much more. Touching but very hot story of love & mutual need. Yes, I cried but this was one of those stories you just hate to finish. Well written, great characters, three villains to watch for karma to smack down. 💎♥️
I will refer to the other reviews on this book cause I have no words to describe this f*#kery. I can only say I will never get the time I spent back. What a waste.
I really did enjoy this book. I actually read it, then went back and reread the entire series. This book was good on the first read through. But it was actually better on the second after being able to reread what happened in Princess and the Beast. While I do wish there was a little more to the story, I found myself fully immersed in the story, as I have with every Chance Carter book. I was a little confused as to some parts of the story such as the couple who own the hotel and the aunt. I also expected a little more.... suspense or action that is found in the other books in this series. But even without it, I entered this story and was immediately drawn in. I hope to see more of the Brotherhood in future books. What happens to them? What exactly were Hunter and Grant talking about and what's the story behind their tattoos? Granted this took place in the previous book, but it was never cleared up and it kind of bothers me. My five star review is simply because I was drawn so far into the story. I felt that I knew the characters. I felt that I could see their environment. While there were a few character issues, I loved the descriptions!
I feel bad even saying this, but WTF did I just read? I've read books by this author before and I was confused from the very beginning. Typically when picking up a book by this author I'm guaranteed one hell of a steamy story filled with bad boys who secretly are just craving a family, a damsel in distress (usually a virgin - So over the whole virgin thing by the way), and loads of sex. First I want to say this does not fit any of the above.
I couldn't figure out the time frame. What year is it?! A naive virgin goes off to the wilds of Montana (mind you, not Alaska... Montana) where apparently there's no cell service. Not that she has a cell (who the hell doesn't have a cell?) She becomes an indentured servant (again... what year is it?) to a strange couple and she's excited to have hot water for baths. ummm... what?! She acts like that's a strange thing to expect. Then, of course, the hot single father who keeps thinking of himself as being old enough to be her father. Someone needs to freshen up on their math. Because unless he became a father at 11, there's no way a 30 yr old could be a 19 yr old's father. While we're at it... what kind of parent thinks it's a good idea to buy a cabin in the woods when it has no hot water... hell, no bathtub at all? And he's ok with that because they can bath in the river? Seriously? Dude, you've got a 6 month old!
There were just so many things wrong with this book that if not for my OCD, I would not have been able to finish it. As it is, I'm picking myself for doing so, seriously considering the millions of things I would have enjoyed doing more than reading this book... including cleaning up the yard after all four of my massive dogs have had a go at it. I am so surprised that this came Chance Carter. It's not at all what I have come to expect from him
I liked the story, but it could've been better. This is book is technically part of the Brotherhood series. There's an appearance from those characters and continues where Book 5 left off, just in case you want more on what happened between Grady and Raveena. Lumber didn't have the action like the Brotherhood books, it was more an emotional read on finding strength and family. More backstory on the Hildegards' would've been beneficial in understanding their actions. They added a special kind of creep factor to the book, it was good but didn't seem to fit into the story.
Book 4 of the Brotherhood series is included for a limited time, which means two books for one.
Another great book by Chance Carter. I loved how he developed the characters and made Grady even more intriguing. I have been waiting for this story for a while and am happy with it. Though I wish that some of it was not so predictable. I felt that Mr. and Mrs. Hildegard could have done more in the story after Autumn ran away. I also felt that her aunt could have done more as well. However, with these few things that I felt could have been a bit more, this book was amazing. I am so happy that Grady finally got his girl and that she is so good with Destiny. I can't wait for another book by Chance Carter.
I am a big fan of Chance Carter. He is a terrific writer, but I was disappointed with this book. Grady comes off as a really good guy. A loving, caring father and a man that would treat a woman right. Autumn is extremely naive, but a good caring person that would do anything for her mom. Her aunt is a bitch and the Hildegards belong in jail! There are laws against what they did. Enjoyed the specific relationship between Grady, Autumn and baby Destiny, but all the other people and situations kinda ruined it for me. I've loved all of Chance's other books so I will definitely be watching for his next one to come out.
Just when I thought Chance Carter's next book couldn't get any better than the previous one, he goes and writes Lumber Jacked. This well-written story has plenty of suspense, angst, drama, steamy sex, a dash of kink, and so much more.
This book was OK but had so much potential. Between the weird employers and the Aunt. Could have done without that. The mother just seemed wrong to. Without them this book could have been just a great love story. Also was pissed off with her and the aunt. The aunt should have been slapped not given a house wtf. She sent her nice to be raped repeatedly and the girl forgives her and gives her a house. Plus he should have beaten the employers not crack jokes at the end. What a wuss.
I really have no idea what I just read. Well actually skimmed. I got to a certain point and could not do it anymore. It was so weird! The hotel owners were sick and disturbing. Not sure how else to put it and Grady was a little creepy too. Who I ask you who gets turned on by some strange 60 year old white haired lady grabbing your junk? This guy does! He found nothing wrong with this women's odd behavior and actually thought about the possibilities. Um wtf. Apparently he has no shame. Being turn on by a 60 year old women then a 19 year old. Wweeirrdd. Sorry couldn't do it. Just no.
This story of Grady and Autumn drew me in fast. The characters were so vulnerable in their insecurities that they fought to conquer. Grady finding out he had a baby of six months. Autumn going to Montana away from a life she knew all her life. Meeting in the worst place imaginable. I loved the fact that it was love at first sight without the two really knowing it. The attraction between the two main characters was palpable. Chance Carter wrote an Awesome book! 💎
WOW! Just WOW! For me this is the best book you have written. All your books are great but this book is amazing!! I smiled, I laughed and I cried? From beginning to the end was a captivating story. Please write more stories like this one. I was expecting something like your other book, but to me this in a completely new direction. Amazing Chance
Grady Cole is a reformed jewel thief with a big heart and an even big bank account. (Not what you were expecting huh? Get your mind out of the gutter, though he had one of those too.
I loved reading Lumber Jacked, all about Autumn Lane a nineteen year old girl who went to Destiny, Montana to work as a maid at The Raven's Nest hotel for The Hildegard's. The arrangement is she does everything they say and all her pay will be sent to her mother at Western General hospital to pay off her bills and to continue her care! She's dying from cancer and needs to stay at this facility, or she will die sooner! The Hildegard's are a very odd couple, and they do not treat Autumn very nicely! The night she arrived in town, a gentleman checked into the hotel with his baby daughter named Destiny a Grady Cole who is thirty years old. He just became a dad, so this baby thing is totally new to him. In fact the first night he changed the baby but had no diapers, so he wrapped her in a pillow case put a pair of boxers over top of that and then wrapped her in her blanket and put her to bed. A little ingenious on the fly! The author wrote a heartwarming story, that makes the reader just want to keep reading till the very last page without stopping! Find out if Grady & Autumn find their way in this little town of Destiny! In addition to this story another story was included called Hunter's Dream. All about Hunter, a man who kills for a living. He was adopted by the Donnelly family in Boston, Massachusetts when he was twelve years old. Donnely's wife found him wandering the streets as an orphan and pleaded with her husband to adopt him, and they did. This is a crime family and after living with them for five years the mother was killed, and Hunter was brought into the family business as an enforcer. It was his job to take care of anybody his adopted father told him to! Motto was don't ask questions, and don't ever leave anybody alive! Then one day when he was in his late twenty's Father Donnelly sent him on a job with a new recruit, to collect funds he was owed, by a family man. Dominic had been watching Hunter for the last six months and knew what was expected of himself. So he took the lead on this job, killing the family man, and then when he heard noises went to check it out, found the wife and a young boy huddled on the floor in the kitchen. Before Dominic could take them out, Hunter stepped in and said stop don't do it, breaking the family motto. Dominic turned around a starred, cocked his magnum gun and Hunter took him out right between the eyes. Let the mother a young son go, grabbed the money and left Boston on the run! The author wrote a very violent story, not at all what I was expecting! I did read it to the very end, so it was interesting, but very different from Lumber Jacked which I absolutely loved!
Possible Spoilers, if you don't want to know please don't read this review
OK, so there are a few reasons that I gave this book 3 stars but really it all boils down to believe-ability, now the basic plot was good but there were just a few things that drove me nuts which is why I couldn't give this book 5 stars:
- Firstly the title of the book, I read the whole thing and other than the fact that there are a lot of wood fires and he cut some wood for them I have no idea how that title fits the book. - written as standard present day therefore you would assume present day logic would apply, it doesn't hold true to present day - Nut jobs at the hotel, I honestly didn't understand the owners of the hotel, the aunt told the old guy she would let him pop Autumns cherry but also told him she was a slut, makes no sense a slut gives it up freely obviously a virgin is not a slut, as for the horny wife i just don't get it what she thinks is going to happen by dragging the 19 year old innocent in to watch her get herself off, obviously it would more than likely disgust her so whats the point. - Guests at the hotel if i checked into a hotel and had a 60 year old woman get naked in front of me while I was looking after my 6 month old i would run for the hills not stay for a week - talking of the baby, the $400 car seat that was mentioned at the beginning, is it magical because several times throughout the book the girl in the front passenger casually leaned into the back of the car to remove the infant WTF, for starters at that age the car seat is rear facing unless the girl is a contortionist with the powers of Dr Richards from the fantastic four there is no way she could just reach back and grab the kid. Secondly why would you grab the kid i have driven cross country with my husband 10 hours a day and at no point in time would I have dreamed of unbuckling my kid from the device meant to save their lives in the event of a crash was this girl dumb?? - now the main female of the book Autumn, you work like a slave for 2 pervs old enough to be your grandparents, you deal with all the crap they dish out, then find out they never paid a cent to your family which is the reason you were there in the first place, then they basically kidnap you and you manage to escape nearly die in the process and you don't go to the cops again WTF. - now the wolves I don't even know what to say about that, it was like a weird afterthought thrown into the book that made no damn sense to me at all. maybe I missed something but after the fact that she was fleeing in the forest and being pursued by them I just don't get why the wolves remained in the story after that. - and my last point of annoyance was when Autumn and her love Mr. Cole were driving in a car and he just casually mentions that he has killed people, not only does she just seem to casually shrug this off but no other mention of it, 19 and naive or not you would ask questions, some of which that I would have asked would have been..... were you a soldier?...... were you a mafia hit man?...... are you a serial killer?...... was it an accidental killing? come on your sitting in the car with a self confessed killer and say nothing it would never happen.
Above were all the reasons that I just couldn't give this book 5 stars, now don't get me wrong the book had promise and the style of writing itself is good and the character background was well thought out, but some parts of the book just did not seem thought through to me they just made no sense and to be honest kind of bugged me enough that it ruined my enjoyment of the rest of the book.
Maybe I am being over critical because it seems a lot of people liked this book, and if you read it I hope you enjoy it, but this book was just missing to much... commonsense, maybe? for me to enjoy it.

We met Grady Cole in The Princess and the Beast: Naughty Boy Book 5. He was going through some rough times in that book. But Autumn was just the person to help pull him out of his personal hell in this book. With Autumn's help, they started to form a family, and in such a beautiful way. They couldn't be more different from each other, but Autumn didn't take any crap and gave as good as she got. Loved how Grady took care of Destiny. She was his world, and once Autumn came into their lives, Grady protected her too. Loved Autumn's sass and maturity. She was so good with Destiny. She and Grady came together so well, and I love how Chance Carter writes with such admiration for a beautiful woman. He knows how to write a hot scene, and he does it so well! Autumn's aunt was not a nice person, I didn't like her, nor did I like the inn owners. Creepy, creepy. But I did love that Grady lived in a cabin. He needed that isolation, and it was an ideal place to really bring him and Autumn together the way they were meant to be. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
Grady is in for one pleasant surprise when he finds himself in a little Montana town. When he meets Autumn, he instinctively wants to protect her...claim her for his own. How sweet it is that Grady found someone for him...some who understands and supports him. It was a pleasant surprise to see it wasn't who we thought it would be as hinted in Chance's previous books!
Autumn has lived a life that has made her stronger and wiser beyond her years. I mean, who wouldn't love a bad boy who takes his responsibilities seriously, has a sweet and sensitive side and puts family first?? Plus he's delicious! Grady will show Autumn what family is...what loyalty is and finally, what love is.
A scrumptious read that will leave you breathless from beginning to end! The wilderness has never been so sexy as when this hot Alpha shows one woman, HIS woman, his sweet yet kinky side! A definite must read for those who enjoy a saucy and sweet romance with a HEA!
Grady is a man with a broken path in his life. He's 30 years old & wondering how is life went so wrong. Raising a 6 month old daughter alone! He retreats to a very remote cabin in the woods to try and start healing from the past. He's big, strong, handsome as hell, & well endowed too!!
Autumn is a young woman, only 19 years old, trying to make her way in the world, and take care of her very sick Mother's medical costs. She gets a job far from home with the promise her paychecks will be sent to her Mom. When she discovered her checks were never sent she becomes livid!! Confronting the employers doesn't work out well for her. Fleeing in the fast approaching night, during a snow storm. Grady & Autumn find each other. What will become a passionate love between these two & their love for his baby girl. Will the age gap create issues that can be overcome or will Grady be left alone again!! See for yourself & enjoy the ride!!
I love this story I think this my favorite now. I love that they had found love in each other. Hunter who went through a tough tragedy when he found his baby momma dead with her drug dealer. He though he was doing all the right things by saving her but it wasn't meant to be he though his life was over until he found out his baby was alive. Kelly is a sweet and young innocent that left home to go work at some Hotel to help her mom with her medical bills soon she got there it wasn't what she expected but she wanted to help her mom at all cost. Hunter rides into town with his daughter check into the hotel and that when faith kick in. They really enjoy each h other Kelly helps Hunters with his baby and he's fall deep in love with her.. Will they or will they not get together knows Love this books I highly recommend you read it
OMG! This story had me laughing, cringing, crying, and rejoicing. It started out as a mother turning her young daughter onto the world. But then quickly turned into a freaky version of the Bates motel. And now a bit about the story...
Autumn is 19 and leaving home for the first time on a long train to Montana. Her aunt has arranged for her to work at a hotel and they will be sending her paychecks home to pay for her mother's medical care. What she doesn't know is this place is more like Pyscho with crazy people running the motel... But then see meets Grady, a guest arriving at the same time she does. But since this isn't the Hotel California, he checks out and things get stranger and stranger.
Favorite Passage: “It will save my pillow cases too.” Grady laughed. “I said I’d pay for that.”
