Ignoring the dead can get you killed...

All Charlie Payne wants is to lead a normal life and to be a good mom. But Charlie’s not exactly normal. She's from a long line of witches and she can see the dead. Which sometimes makes even going to the bathroom awkward as ghosts have no boundaries.

Susan Tate has inherited a beautiful old southern mansion on the coast. Unfortunately, the property came with a million necessary repairs. And ghosts.

When Charlie meets Susan, the woman is desperate for help. Taking on a spirit who doesn’t want to see the light can be dangerous but ignoring it? Ignoring the dead can get you killed.

Haunting Charlie is the first in a spine-tingling new Supernatural Suspense that will have you clinging to the edge of your seat. If you like stories with psychics, ghosts, and witches, then you will love the Witches of Palmetto Point Series by Wendy Wang!

Love this author

I had selected this book from my Kindle Unlimited account and saw that I had previously read it and given it a five star rating but never written a review for it. This author, Wendy Wang, merits a review. Her characters are lively and fun and the story moves at a good pace. If you like paranormal mysteries, give this author a try.

Could be so much better

I enjoy witches and supernatural stories. This story has so much potential. The author chose to focus on one person primarily, Charlie, a psychic/medium who “sees dead people.” She is interesting, having gone through a divorce and agreeing that her ex gets primary custody of her son, struggling with her abilities. She is part of a family with other ‘special’ ladies. That’s one aspect I would have loved more of. Who are these women? A whole story about the Kitchen Witch Cafe seems like it could be amazing. Is it ever revealed who Charlie’s parents are, if they are/were gifted? How far back do their powers go, and how did they come to discover and use them? Also, some of the cousins’ gifts aren’t really described or pinpointed. Maybe that’s all for another book, but hints or thoughts about it would have been great.

The story itself was okay. I liked the way the author mixed the past evils with current missing women cases. The skepticism of the police officer was a good move, but it didn’t take him that long to change his tune, which seemed quick. The meeting with the ex seemed particularly odd to me.

The scenes at Charlie’s work were interesting. As I read the end, I wondered if the way she could help Helen could have been introduced earlier, something she thought about, rather than kind of a revelation at the end.

The editing was not great in this book. I kept noting things like missed words that were distracting.

Finally, the ending scene was suspenseful, but I kept wondering what the other people were doing while Charlie was saving herself.

I wanted to really love these characters, but there wasn’t enough distinction between them, and there were quite a few of them. So much potential. Just needed more polishing.

The plot in Haunting Charlie is compelling, and I keep reading to see what will happen next (which made me lose too much sleep last night). But what I like most of all is the appealing protagonist. Charlie sees ghosts, and it's caused many problems for her, but she stays strong and keeps pushing back against anyone that tries to keep her down. She's not a superhero, but a very sympathetic woman who helps people even though it's at great risk to her. She's also a wonderful mother.

Good story but dark

I liked the characters and the writing was good. The main reason I gave 3 stars was the the plot is strongly about sexual abuse of women and how power is abused whether it is physical power or power in the work place. Too often in murder stories the victims are beautiful young women who are raped and murdered in disturbing ways. This is the case here and the nastiness of this is not hidden. I feel that there needed to be a warning about the content of this book as women who have been abused may find it upsetting.

Perfect blend of paranormal and humor with a touch of scary.. The main character is Charlie Payne who can see and hear spirits along with being an empath. She comes from a family ones with gifts.. Charlie doesn't like to call herself a witch but her cousins who have big parts in the book have no problem calling themselves that. On the outside they all live normal everyday lives..

Charlie is a divorced mother of one who works at a call center. Her gift is the reason for her divorce. She has a big heart and loves her family and is very close to her cousins. They are the ones that convince her to go and try to find out what or who is haunting a southern mansion. The owner Susan Tate would like to turn it into a B&B but knows with all the scary things that happen in the house that's not going to happen.

Charlie immediately feels a presence of evil on her arrival at the house along with tons of tortured souls. Along with one evil ghost she also gets grief from Susan's son Jason who is a deputy sheriff and non-believer in all things paranormal.

This was a refreshing change from my normal reading and I am enjoying the series so far.

Haunting Charlie is basically a ghost story. The heroes/main characters aren't overly fleshed out in this book (the villains not at all) but the glimpses we do get are interesting and they seem likeable. Still, it wasn't bad for the first book in a series (set-up). It tends more toward cozy than hard core and was an easy/fun read that held my interest. I really liked that the whole family worked together. Good read.

For those who want to know: For the most part, this is a clean read. I think the author used the word a$$ once or twice and there was a short, non-graphic "adult situation" at the end for a couple of pages.

Good Read

Was a good interesting read for my first time reading, the characters were pretty interesting and with me being a fan of the supernatural came across this first book due to being a prime member. It's 3 more books in the series I'll be picking up eventually. 😎

I love when I read a book with low expectations and am pleasantly surprised. This was a fun, if not scary read with a little of everything. Charlie is a ghost whisperer, for lack of a better word. This ghost was especially evil and Charlie needed the help of her cousins (all witches), family members of the ghost, and a hunky sheriff. I think I'll read more in the series if the opportunity arises.

I like ghost stories so when this series came up on chirp audio for $6.99, I got it. Haunting Charlie is a really short book(4.5 hours or about 250 pages), but it’s a good supernatural mystery. 100% worth the money to purchase it. The story does involve an evil ghost that raped and murders women and a suicide attempt is mentioned so those could be trigger warnings for someone. The book jumps pretty quick into the plot, but there is enough character background to connect with the characters and like the characters. I liked the spark of romance in the book but they only mentioned how hot the deputy was a couple time and being hot wasn’t his only character trait so that was good. There are some times when the ghosts and magic are pretty conveniently placed so the plot moves along without too much character struggle or depth to the plot, but it’s still a fun book. I had read a pretty intense book so it was what I needed. The narrator was decent. I think I might have almost liked it better as a digital book though since it was so short. I’ll definitely read the rest of the series.

The Witches of Palmetto Point is a series of small town supernatural mysteries that keep the local witches/psychics, Charlie Payne and her sassy bunch of cousins and aunties, very busy.

This first book of the series is cozy, what with a tight-knit family of magical ladies, operating from the unofficial headquarters, Kitchen Witch Cafe. Charlie is a sweetie and a mom just trying her best to love her son while dealing with her gaslighting ex-husband. She is struggling to embrace her psychic abilities but her cousins try to advocate her by convincing her to pick up supernatural commissions, leading them to Susan Tate's haunted house problem.

As fun as this sounds, the mysteries are really quite harrowing (content warning below). This is something that I personally love but might be a bit dark for some.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. It was creepy at times and had a nice balance of light-heartedness and the macabre (if that’s a thing). It is a well-written supernatural thriller. Charlie is a psychic and possibly a witch. She encounters a malevolent spirit who is still hurting innocent women. Despite her hesitancy, she tries to convince the local, skeptical deputy that she has pertinent information on the whereabouts of a recent missing girl. Together, her family of witches and Deputy Jason combine to create an interesting tale that makes for a nice, cozy, rainy weekend read. I’ll probably continue with the series when I get the chance as I would be interested to see how the characters’ relationships develop in the subsequent books. If you like paranormal stories, you’d probably like this one.

Loved this book, will definitely go on to read the rest of the series. If you like paranormal, love, family, witches, investigations - you will love this book.

Charlie is just trying to get her life back together, (not going into details, don't want to ruin it for you!) and is having to face a lot of things at once. She has a great supportive family and so far, it is definitely a family affair dealing with the things going on.

Take a chance on a really good start to a series, I think you'll be like me and continue on with the series.

That was a good one. The thing that stands out the most in my mind right now is that there were so many people to keep track of! I was nearly at the point of having to grab some notebook paper and write down who’s who. Not something I like when reading.

This had some darkness when the murders were mentioned and what happened with the victims. This is definitely not your regular Small Town Sleuthy Romance. It was more like Small Town Psychics with a side of Shade.

All in all I liked it a lot though! And there is upcoming romance, it seems. Next is Book 2, “Wayward Spirits”. See ya there!

Charlie uses her ability to see ghosts to help stop a spirit from the past continuing his murderous ways in the present. Not a bad read. SPOILERS ahead – – – Daphne informs her cousin Charlie about one of her clients, Susan who is having a ghost problem at her house. Her son, Jason the deputy is a major skeptic and Charlie has to convince him her dreams of recent girls disappearances are not a "fake" psychic joke. I liked his character, eventually, and hoping there is more in the next one.

This is a great paranormal "cozy" mystery, set in the area of Charleston, SC. The plot is tight, there is a good bit of character development, and only minor editing issues (mostly cases of a comma placed inside a word instead of behind.)

I look forward to reading the next in the series!

I didn't really like the plot although the story seemed to be promising it was quite plain and dull, well, at least it is not written badly.
