Lucy Conlay faces one of the darkest moments in her life when she falls ill. With her brother and his wife having moved away, she has no choice but to call in a favor from an old flame, her brother’s best friend Seth. Her four-year-old son would need someone to care for him while she undergoes treatment. When she calls Seth to help her out, he doesn’t think twice, but Lucy fears that her best kept secret would be revealed the moment he laid eyes on her little Jacob.
Baseball jock Seth jumps at the opportunity to help Lucy. He remembers her as the adorable college nerd he fell in lust with all those years ago at his best bud’s wedding. Not only that, she was his best friend’s sister, and despite his public Bad Boy persona, Seth took care of his own. When he arrives and finds her in bad health, the thought of losing Lucy nearly floors him. What scares him the most, was that she might end up leaving her son behind. But when he learns the truth about Jacob everything changes and Seth is torn between his anger, his responsibilities and his heart’s desire. Would Seth and Lucy be able to rekindle their passion and overcome the curveball Mother Nature decided to throw their way? Or would past secrets rob them of the time they may not have?
A Family By Valentine is A Secret Baby Second Chance Romance and was previously published as a Family By Christmas. This new Edition contains an alternative ending and story line.
Piper Sullivan is an old school romantic who enjoys reading romantic stories as much as she enjoys writing them. She spends her time day-dreaming of dashing heroes and the feisty women they love.
Easily a 4 star book but for two things. One, I have doubts on the accuracy of the medical information in this book (based on my own breast cancer experience). Two, the author did such a good job of making me hate the male lead that when he realizes how much he loves the female lead it just seems forced and a like load of bull.
Wow, this is one of the most amazing stories I’ve ever read. I was in tears at the end. Seth is a pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals and Lucy is his best friend’s sister. They’d only met once when he went to her brother’s wedding. This is a must read that tugs at the heart.
Ok! I starded to read and I think this is different! But when he left with the nurse... and when she came Back from the hospital saying that she was weak and make love with him I didn’t buy it!

I really enjoyed this book. As this is the first book of Piper Sullivan’s that I have read, I didn’t know what to expect. But I definitely will be checking out more of her books. I liked both the hero and heroine and the storyline. When Seth discovered that he was Jacob’s father I expected drama, yet he didn’t cause a fuss. I liked that he was so laid back by it but at the same time I wanted him to show some emotion. I also didn’t like Seth when he was about to have sex with the nurse. He came to town with intentions of hooking up with Lucy. He mentioned that he had thought about settling down with her. He dropped a four year old boy off at the hospital room and left with a nurse for an ‘’hour’’. Despite this, I liked Lucy and Seth as a couple. The epilogue/one year later for this book is super cute and left me feeling satisfied with the ending.
This story is easy to follow and an enjoyable story to read in one sitting. I devoured this book.

Yet another beautiful short story by Piper that will warm your heart. A very quick read that will make you smile, and make you believe in love that will endure forever, no matter what
