Detective Reece Gallagher has spent the last decade working as a cop in Chicago so he can search for her—the red-haired woman who haunts his dreams. He’s just about ready to give up and go home to Salvation, North Carolina, when he finally finds her. But she’s the assault victim on a case he’s working on, and there’s a full-blooded werewolf who wants her dead. He needs to keep her safe and convince her she’s his mate.
Hannah Burdette has a secret she’s never told anyone. But there is someone who knows who—or rather, what—she is. There’s a stalker after her who plans to rid the world of her “impure” blood. When the cop she meets turns out to be a werewolf and claims she doesn’t have to be alone anymore, she’s wary. But where better to hide from a bloodthirsty hunter than in the middle of North Carolina with the security of a pack surrounding her?
Once upon a time N.J. had the idea that she would like to quit her job at the bookstore, sell everything she owned, leave her hometown, and write romance novels in a place where no one knew her. And she did. Two years later, she went back to the bookstore and her hometown and settled in for another seven years.
One day she gave notice at her job on a Friday morning. On Sunday afternoon, she received a tentative acceptance for her first erotic romance novel and life would never be the same.
N.J. Walters is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author who has always been a voracious reader, and now she spends her days writing novels of her own. Vampires, werewolves, dragons, time-travelers, seductive handymen, and next-door neighbors with smoldering good looks—all vie for her attention. It’s a tough life, but someone’s got to live it.
Wolf in her Soul may be the 8th book in N.J Walters Wolf Pack series, but I can absolutely say that not having read any of the previous books was of no detriment. If anything, I'm simply intrigued over how each couple in the pack came to be. Anyhoo, this one focuses on cop and half-breed (really 3/4's), Reece, and Hannah, also a half-breed and one who has someone hell bent on ending her time on earth. Not on Reece's watch.
This held pretty much everything I want to find in a paranormal read. The pace was good, the chemistry between Reece and Hannah is filled with heat and passion, it has some intrigue and action and a vast array of secondary characters who bring value overall. And it brings emotion as Hannah is a wolf without a pack: she's had no one watching her back until now and whilst she was at first frustrating with her pulling back from Reece, it was understandable and she really does find her feet as the story unfolds.
"...he was willing to die, to kill for her. And she was willing to do the same for him. That was a rare and precious thing."
My first read from N.J Walters won't be my last.

This was an ok read but nothing that I haven't read before by other authors. The characters are ok but nothing special. It had potential but didn't really grab me enough. Unfortunately while I found I liked it I just couldn't love it
What feels like forever ago I stumbled onto NJ Walters’ Legacy series and I really enjoyed it. I then read the first book in the Salvation Pack series and liked it, but didn’t love it. When I saw the rave reviews for some of the other books in the series, my interest was sparked again. As soon as I saw Wolf In Her Soul available on Netgalley I decided to go for it. Unfortunately, this was another book that was okay but I didn’t love it.
A good beginning introduced us to Hannah, a half-breed werewolf, who has spent her life staying away from areas where full-blooded werewolves could discover her. Half-breeds are looked down upon and some will kill them on sight if found. While living in Chicago she’s attacked and discovers she’s acquired a full blood werewolf stalker.
Reece, not quite a half-breed but also not a full blood, had a dream ten years prior that he needed to be in Chicago to save a woman. He’s now a Chicago police detective who is torn about his job. He’s a good cop but the rigors of the job are wearing on him and after ten years he’s ready to give up the dream girl and go home. Called in to investigate Hannah’s attack, he realized she’s the girl in the dream.
I liked Reece, especially in the beginning. Determined to get Hannah to safety he immediately sets out to get her to his real home, the Salvation Pack. Hannah, who has been told to avoid werewolves and their packs, takes some convincing.
I never did warm up to Hannah. She was quite the sad sack, very down on herself and just a ball of angst. I kept hearing Linda Ronstadt’s song Poor Poor Pitiful Me playing in my head whenever her inner dialogue filled the pages.
The stalker was a huge turn off for me. He was so cartoonish and ridiculous I had a hard time taking him seriously no matter how many times he congratulated himself on how very smart he was.
I felt like this book had a lot of promise but it was just too short to really flesh out the plot and the characters. For me, it ended up being a shadow of what it could have been with shallow characters and a rushed plot which left a few strings dangling. It was somewhat entertaining, but it frustrated me it didn’t live up to its potential.
Rating: 2.5 Poor Poor Pitiful Me Stars
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
I love finding good paranormal romance, too bad I didn't find it sooner! Book 8 in N.J. Walters' Salvation Pack series it can be read as a stand alone, less than half of the book actually takes place in Salvation Pack so the past couples make an appearance but it's not so overwhelming that you feel lost in the past history of the pack.
Reece Gallagher has been working as a Detective in Chicago for the last ten years searching for a dream. He hates being away from his pack mates and his family especially his twin brother but he has had the same dream for as long as he can remember it's of a faceless woman with red hair who needs his help and she's in Chicago. Reece is on the verge of giving up he's already put in his notice to quit when he gets called on an assault and the woman, the victim, is the red head in his dreams.
Hannah Burdette has lived her life on the run, always prepared to leave at a moments notice and how to defend herself all because she's a half breed. Her Father raised her taught her to always hide who she is because if a full blooded wolf ever found her it could mean her death. When she turned eighteen he left and ever since Hannah has been on her own. Hannah never knew anything else never expected anything else so when she is attacked by a full blooded wolf she is prepared to leave and never look back but the cop assigned to her case isn't going to let her go alone. Reece convinces Hannah that she will be safe with his pack and they start to head out of Chicago and head to Virginia, and Reece's home. Hannah has a hard time accepting everything Reece is telling her because it is so different than what she is use to, and the sheer thought that they are mates is completely foreign to her. Hannah also is finding it difficult to accept the packs help for fear that something might happen to them because of her. Reece has the whole drive to convince her otherwise.
Overall, the suspense conflict with the full blooded psychopathic wolf ends too quickly for me, leaving the latter half of the book to deal with Hannah's internal conflict. Which is fine I love good internal conflict, but I love suspense even more. Other then that I really enjoyed this book.
Each book in the Salvation Pack series does a masterful job of engrossing you in the life and troubles of an individual and their soon-to-be mate, while weaving them easily into the pack's extended family. WOLF IN HER SOUL continues this trend with Reece and Hannah's lives. Overall, the plot had an intriguing thriller-esque quality to it with plenty of tense moments balanced out with the passion of Reece and Hannah's blossoming romance.
I loved the idea that Reece had dreams of Hannah for years and altered his life to search for her. Not being a huge romantic myself I thought that was actually a really huge romantic, touching, and risky thing for him to do. Hannah's story was super heartbreaking so I was quite happy to watch her get a happily ever after with Reece. Luckily there was a lack of the more annoying traits alphas tend to have in these books so I was on board with Reece and Hannah being together from the beginning. I loved the care Reece took with making Hannah feel safe considering her backstory.
While I liked the thrill of finding out who was stalking Hannah and the danger involved in that chase, the conclusion was not satisfying. The issue with Hannah's father and his reason for leaving her was not that great and I felt that they should have been angrier with him. It felt like the story shrugged off the fact that he left his daughter to deal with life in a constant state of fear and paranoia. I needed more explanation from him and various other odd plot points surrounding Hannah's stalker.
Aside from my issues with the conclusion of WOLF IN HER SOUL, the story was solidly entertaining and the characters were people who you wanted to root for right away. I find this series to be one of my comfort reads for some reason and will definitely continue on with future books!
'Wolf in Her Soul' by N.J. Walters is Book 8th in the "Salvation Pack". This is the story of Reece Gallagher and Hannah Burdette. I feel this is easily a standalone book. Reece had a dream about his mate where he saw the back of her and he has been trying to find her. Reece even moved to Chicago from North Carolina to locate her but now its 10 years later. Reece has not found her and he has given up and wants to head home. But there are some half wolves that are being murdered and he needs to help with the case. Hannah is attacked she tries to fight going to the hospital but the medial workers insist that she goes. There they notify the cops who send Detective Reece to the case. Reece doesn't know her but when she turns around wanting to leave the hospital he realizes who she is to him. Hannah is his mate and he will do anything to protect her. Hannah is used to running and thinks to do this after being attacked but Reece stands in her way. Reece wants to help her and she goes forward with him...giving him her trust. Loved their story. 3.5 stars. The 8th book of the salvation pack series and one of many in N.J. Walters Massive collection. I have to be honest and say that although I didn't dislike this story, I probably would have appreciated it more had I read the previous stories in the series. Although you can get away with reading it as a standalone .. I missed that connection and understanding of the side characters and their history.
Reece took a huge risk by separating himself from his pack/ family in the hopes of a dream coming true. 10 years later it was certainly taking his tole and he was at breaking point. By chance he takes a call that leads him to what he's been searching for the past 10 years. Will his dreams come true?. Or will they run before he even gets a taste of happiness. Hannah was on her own living in a constant state of fear always having one foot out the door ready to run. Having been abandoned by the only person she trusted and loved the most, she most definitely had serious trust issues. Would she learn to trust her mate?. Or will she run from the unknown.
The story had a little of everything from suspense, to horror. Romance to heartbreak.. and even a little humour thrown in. I enjoyed the fact that we got a peak into the killers head, it was different and definitely gave you a better idea of what was happening. The author wrote it very well with a clear difference between all of the POV'S. The romance was more along the lines of insta love which is to be expected with shifters and it was written well. A good build of sexual tension and a definite connection between both characters.
I feel a few things were iffy with me which is why I didn't give it 5 stars.
The first being that I didn't feel there was a good enough explanation of Hannah's father and the ending didn't really tie that up. A brief explanation wasn't enough for me and still left me with lots of questions... I don't want to go into detail and spoil anything but yes I feel there is more questions than answers.
I didn't really feel a connection between the side characters and the main with the exception of Reece's brother and uncle. And while I know it's not essential I do like to feel connected to them in some manner because I envision packs to be closer than anything else, however they felt a little cold to me.
I also felt like i needed more of them in the end, happy and their involvement in pack life. How they adjusted, friendships that they made etc..
Back on a good note.. all together it's a well rounded story with a good original plot and a good variety of emotions.
I kindly received this ARC from netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Despite the fact that I bought Wolf in her Soul before Samhain closed and then again when Entangled re-released it, I forgot that I never got around to reading it. But as I got an advance copy of book 9, Wolf of her Own, to read, I thought it best to rectify it. Before I read it, I back tracked to Sage's book because I couldn't remember all that had transpired in it, and I'm glad I did because I had forgotten how deep the bond between the twins ran and what Reese had done for Sage without his knowledge. That bond plays an important part in Reese's story, so I'm glad I took the time to refresh my memory -- not to mention, it was a good reminder of who Mikhail is as he appears in the next book.
Now for Wolf in her Soul, once again, I loved the story that N.J. Walters has penned. Yes, we know she always makes the men work for their soon-to-be mate and that eventually, the woman will work past her fears, doubts, hang-ups, or whatever obstacle is causing her to hesitate and say yes to who she wants. But in Reese and Hannah's case, the outside force seems even more nefarious. I mean, a werewolf who's basically a serial killer, one who feels it's his mission in life to rid the world of the abomination of half-breeds. YIKES!!! As far as villains in paranormal romances go, that's pretty original in my reading experience. Sadistic werewolves or shifters who kill those they believe are less than them are one thing, but this guy actually goes out of his way to hunt down half-breeds. And it was a really bad case of wrong place, wrong time that had him setting his sights on Hannah. Fortunately for Hannah, Reese is not only a rare anomaly of a half-breed wolf who can shift, he also happens to be the police detective who gets assigned her case. Once Reese realizes Hannah is who he's been looking for the past decade AND that her attacker is a wolf... well, it shouldn't come as a surprise that his protective instincts going into overdrive and he does what he must to insure her safety. But as her attacker is on a mission, he's not going to let her get away that easily and Walters had me glued to my Kindle, reading as fast as I could because I could not believe she'd do that to Reese. Seriously, Walters, what did Reese ever do to you? The author managed to ratchet up the suspense and my tension while dragging Reese and Hannah through Hell and back. But man, Hannah was freaking magnificent when she had to protect what was her. Sadly, she lost some of that spine when the adrenaline wore off and she was, once again, unsure of her place in the world because of her past and her parents. Walters still managed to throw another curve ball or two in there to keep me on my toes, not to mention some seriously "AWWW!" moments with the pack children.
While Walters ultimately delivered the happy ending I knew was coming for Reese and Hannah (in the way I wanted it), I really, really hope she doesn't make Ms. Elise and Mikhail work quite that hard in the next book. I know Mikhail has to prove himself on several levels, but I'm hoping all of their battles will be overcoming emotional scars, and not anything with the potential to leave physical scars.
On a final note, while you can read Wolf in her Soul as a standalone without any confusion as Walters has indeed written all of the books in the series to stand on their own, I personally think you'll appreciate the story more if you read Wolf in his Heart first so that you have a better understanding of just how close Reese and Sage are and why Reese makes certain decisions before meeting Hannah. You don't have to, but I recommend you do.
I was happy to see Reece getting his story – I needed him to find his love, he so deserved one! And Hannah was perfect for him. He’d waited years, almost gave up hope, before she entered his life. Too bad she was determined that nothing would come between them, other than distance…
“She was a half-breed, a wolf in her soul, but not in truth.”
The Salvation Pack was this mix of seeming misfits in the shifter world. Hannah was on the run for the same reason. As they came together for safety and then for love, their journey through those differences, to come to a peace was a mental exercise hard won. And they did it in the midst of grave danger and on the run. Family to back them up, and their own convictions and will to fight, kept them going…
“It’s too much too soon.”
Hannah was so alone yet so strong while Reece, surrounded by supportive family, felt adrift being so apart from them. One fighting the promise of love while the other battled to have it, for both of them. Reece was persistent and Hannah was stubborn but the caring, the love they both felt couldn’t help but win out in the end.
While the mystery surrounding Hannah’s family felt undone, the sweet coming together of two souls fighting to find their place, was sweet, at times scorching, and above all, fully satisfying…. I can’t wait now for Mikhail’s story! ~Diane, 4 stars
Thanks to Netgalley for giving me this novel in exchange for an honest review.
LOVED loved loved this book. I loved the older protagonists...I loved the fact that the author treated past as only a minor part of the book and didn't harp back to it but used it as part of what made the heroine who she is today. I love how respectful she was of her children and their role in her new relationship or lack there of:) ....I loved how respectful the hero was of her and her emotional challenges yet treated her as a desirable woman...overall I just loved this book.
If you haven't met the salvation pack you really need to! 5 stars and a well done to N. J. Walters!
I love the Salvation Pack series and hate that I waited so long to read Wolf in her Soul! Hannah has been living on the run her entire life. She is half blooded wolf and her dad made sure she knew that there were people who wanted all the half blooded wolves dead. Her dad abandoned her when she was 18 and she has been jumping from town to town ever since. Then she is attacked and Reece enters her life.
I liked the lone wolf aspect of Hannah's life. She doesn't know much about her species and has spent her entire life terrified of any other wolf. Reece knows she is his mate right away but doesn't want to freak her out or push her to0 hard given her lack of knowledge of other wolf packs and their behaviors. Reece is a great hero-brave, protective, and totally devote.
There is plenty of danger from Hannah's stalker and then from the huge life changing decision Hannah has to make regarding her future. Wolf in her soul is a quick read and perfect for fated mates fans like me!
POV: 3rd Tears: no Trope: fated mates, on the run, secret identity Triggers: none Series/Standalone: stand alone within an interconnected series Cliffhanger: HEA:

This is Book 8 of the Salvation Pack series. Although I would seriously recommend you read the series in order, or at the very least the first couple of books, it can be read as a standalone but you will miss out on the significance of the more intricate relationships and backstories.
You can’t help but like Reece and Hannah. Reece has taken a massive leap of faith, separating himself from his pack and his family for 10 years, on the basis of a dream. Hannah, too, must take a leap and decide if she’ll trust Reece and his pack, or run off on her own.
As usual with these books there is a serious case of instalove, but it is well done. I liked the fact that despite Reece declaring his intentions from almost the first moment (he had been waiting for her for 10 years, it’s only natural that he’s ahead in the emotional stakes), it takes Hannah a much longer time to conquer the misinformation she had been told since she was a child and to decide what she feels for Reece is more than simply lust. Trust must be earned after all.
I enjoyed getting inside the villain’s head. It kept you guessing his true motivations, although little titbits were dropped here and there it wasn’t until much later in the book that everything comes together. It was great for keeping the suspense up through the entire book.
This is still a relatively new author for me and I am steadily working through her back catalogue of books. Having said that, I haven’t yet read anything I haven’t enjoyed. She has a nice and easy writing style that flows well. Her world building is consistent and her characters are well developed with the main characters genuinely likeable and the villains suitably dastardly!
If you enjoy paranormal romance, I would recommend giving this author a go.

Reese was a detective with the Chicago PD. He worked in violent Crime Investigations. Sean was his partner and let him know they had caught another case -Arson and possible murder. Reese was a half breed werewolf but he was three fourths werewolf. He also had a twin named Sage. When he got to the scene Reece knew there was only one way a body could burn so hot without an accelerant here a body could turn to dust so that nothing remained and that was to be a werewolf or a werewolf half breed. Reece was with The Salvation Pack in North Carolina. Reece was an anomaly- a thing of myth and legend . It is rare to be a half breed and have children but his mother had. Then to be a twi was like winning the lottery it was so against the odds that it was thought to be impossible. Reese also had an extra ability that all known half breeds didn't have he could shift into his wolf form. Reece was tired of all the senseless violence and was ready to go home to his brother and pack. When Reece turned eighteen he had a dream that had changed the course of his life. In the dream there was a faceless red headed woman and she was in danger. Reece had this dream over and over and he knew that she would be in Chicago if he found her but he had to try so instead of working in construction or or making furniture with his Uncle Elias Reece went to Chicago it had been ten years and Reece was ready to give up on the dream woman. He had given his PD notice he was leaving Hannah knew someone was following her . She trusted her instincts as that had saved her life more than once But then the coffee shop- Coffee Expressions that Hannah worked at came into view and Hannah felt safe. Hannah hated the crowds and the noise of the big city but her father had told her to stay in city’s as she would be safer. Hannah lived cheap and saved what money she could as she had a dream. If the feeling of being followed persisted Hannah would pack up and leave Chicago like she had been doing all her life. But she didn't really want to leave Hannah liked the people she worked with. When Reece went back to the arson scene a young man came forward and told him that the dude was big like Reece and moved like Reece too, like he was prowling. The man had a dark leather coat and his eyes seemed to glow in the dark. The witness had confirmed Reece's worse fears. The witness was tough by anybody’s measures but he had been afraid of what he had seen. That spoke volumes to Reece. The killer was a werewolf. Reece didn’t know if this was a isolated pack incident between pure werewolves or if the killer was targeting half breeds. Hannah’s father had trained Hannah to defend herself Secrecy and the need for it had been drummed into Hannah’s head since she had been a toddler by her father. Hannah’s father had raised her by himself but when Hannah was eighteen they went their separate ways ad Hannah ahadn’t seen or heard from her father since. Hannah had heightened senses, and abnormal strength and speed. She also needed extra food to function. As Hannah walked to work a couple days after feeling she had been followed she was excited as after today Hannah had two days off to go around and just take pictures which was Hannah’s passion and she was good at it. But then a man stepped in front of Hannah and she knew he was a werewolf and he told her she looked lovely and he even knew her name and then he said it was a pity he had to kill her. He half turned into a wolf and his razor sharp claws tore into Hannah’s skin. He then told Hannah to run but she knew that he wanted to chase her and bring her down. He liked the hunt and her fear. Then the man heard several people and he told Hannah this wasn’t over and she couldn’t hide from him When Hannah asked who he was he just said she would know soon enough and he took off. Hannah didn’t want to go to the hospital but was taken anyway Reece was sitting with a cup of coffee with Sean called and said there had been an assault on a female. Reece went to the hospital and realized this was the woman of his dreams that he had told noone about. Reece felt this was the same killer from the arson case but he had been sloppy with Hannah so he felt it was more personal. Reese wanted to lift Hannah up and carry her away from there. He didn’t want anyone else around her and neither did his wolf. Her scent wrapped around Reece and chained him in place. Reece didn’t like the fear in Hannah’s eyes but he understood the last wolf she had met had tried to kill her. Reece could tell Hannah was a half breed werewolf. Reece felt Hannah was his to protect. She was the reason for everything he had done in his adult life. Hannah realized her attacker had repelled her from jump street but she was attracted to Reece. Her reaction to reece totally confused her. Reece took her to his apartment after getting her stuff at her apartment and he fed her and got her settled in his bed to sleep as she needed that to heal. Reece knew Hannah was his mate. Hannah filled the empty spot in Reece’s soul and heart. The killer was near Hannah’s apartment he had a nose for misfits that were neither human or wolf. If Hannah was who he thought she was the reason he did what he did. The reason his life had changed a second time. Reece was taken Hannah to his home and pack. I loved this story it was just a great read. I loved the plot, the pace, and the action. I loved how Reece was so patient with Hannah. I was so glad Hannah didn’t have to be alone anymore if she o9nly accepted things. I loved Reese and Hannah together. I also loved Reece and Sage’s relationship and the love Elias had for the men.I love the Salvation pack and how accepting they were. Just all and all a great book and romance that I couldn’t find anything I didn’t like about it. I even got another book boyfriend in Reece. I loved the characters and the ins and outs of this book and I highly recommend
A long time fan of this series -i was glad to see a new member find a mate. Reese a cop in Chicago life changes when he meets his half breed mate who is in danger. He's been away from the pack because of a dream but he's going home with his mate. Another great book in this series
It’s been about a decade since Reece has been home, back with his family, his pack. A dream took him to the Chicago police force. Not that he couldn’t have done the same job back home but his recurring dream of a woman in danger, a woman who was important to his life always took place in Chicago, so that’s where he went to find his destiny or at least this mystery woman. And after ten long years… nothing. So he’s ready to pack up and go home for it’s obvious that he got that dream all wrong. Or did he?
Hannah has been alone and on the run for so long now. There is a crazy, full-blooded werewolf on her trail who intends to end her life as quickly and painfully as possible. Her father was a wolf shifter, but he cut her loose when she became an adult… not very pack like. But Hannah knows nothing of packs, destined mates or the safety of an extended family of people just like her. For the last few years she’s known only terror, loneliness and fear… and to watch her back and keep on the move. All of that will change when she’s assaulted and the cop on the case understands exactly what she’s facing, because he’s just like her. Now comes perhaps the biggest test of all… can she trust this shifter to protect her or is she falling into another trap?
I have loved and followed the Salvation Pack series for years now. I was captured by the first book and will follow this series until there are no more stories to be told from Salvation, North Carolina. Wolf In Her Soul takes place away from pack land, leaving Reece and Hannah to make their way back to Salvation on their own… with a crazed stalker, perhaps killer hot on their trail. Normally I’d suggest reading this series from the start – yet as this is the eighth story, that might not be practical for everyone. You “could” read Wolf In Her Soul on it’s own without knowing background, especially since only a portion of their story takes place on pack land. In my opinion, you’ll have a better experience for reading the entire series – and it’s a damned good series – but if you can’t, then simply enjoy this one. I would highly recommend this story and the entire series to any Paranormal or Shifter Romance reader. You’ll find an interesting plot, likable characters and the satisfaction of a stand on it’s own story or the nuances of following a series with familiar faces.
*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*
For the past decade Detective Reece Gallagher has worked hard protecting the city in order to meet the woman that has haunted his dreams. So, when he goes to talk to an assault victim and finds Hannah Burdette, Reece knows he'll do everything to protect her from the monster stalking her. But when the threat is gone, will Hannah stay or will her trust issues send her running?
Every single book of this series has been a delight to read with this story coming in a close second on my best of the series list. Really, Reece and Hannah's story is absolutely captivating because of everything this couple go through on their journey to happy ever after, especially since it's not easy for the heroine to trust after how she grew up. The way this story started with the prologue had shivers running down my spine, as the man hunting half-breeds is pure evil and needs to be taken down before he kills anyone else. Will Reece and his partner be able to take the bad guy down? However, it was from the moment that Reece and Hannah meet where things get very interesting, as the hero begins acting out of character. Will the hero's partner ever learn the truth about why Reece is so protective of the heroine?
As for the dialogue, it had me totally enthralled due to how intense it was because of the guy hunting Hannah. Would Reece be able to keep her safe? How far is Reece willing to go to see justice served for Hannah? Moreover, both the main characters are well-developed and had me enjoying every time they conversed, as the heroine doesn't make things easy for Reece. How long will it take her to realize that she can trust the hero? Will Hannah ever be able to see past everything her father drummed into her about werewolves and the danger they can bring to her life because she's a half-breed; something full-bred wolves classify as abominations?
While the hero, he's confident, a very good detective that has done his duty to serve and protect for years, and I loved how protective he was of the heroine. I also liked how accepting the pack was of Hannah, because she's never had anyone she can rely on except her father. I also liked that determined Reece was to show Hannah that she didn't have to fight the guy after her alone. That she could rely on him to help drive her stalker away or end him, depending on how far the man wanting to kill her was willing to go.
Overall, Ms. Walters has delivered another exciting and wonderful read for this series where the paranormal elements were superb, the chemistry between this couple was intense; the romance full of exquisite heat and passion; and the ending of this story had me on the edge-of-my-seat because of what happens to the main characters, yet had me cheering for this couple's happy ever after because Hannah is good for Reece and vice-versa. I would recommend Wolf in her Soul by NJ Walters as well as all the books of this series, if you enjoy paranormal romance and books by authors Milly Taiden, Bianca D'Arc, Sasha Summers and Suzanne Wright.
This is right after book 7, so still with the 10 year time jump. Reese is a cop in Chicago because he had a dream that sent him there. But, it's been 10 years and the woman he was looking for hasn't shown up yet and he's had it so he puts in his 2 weeks. Then, she shows up. Like Sage's book this was good but not as strong as Elias's book (which was my favorite). There is one more book left in this series, and I am looking forward to it as I have enjoyed this series.
Title: Wolf In Her Soul Series: Salvation Pack Book #8 Author: N.J. Walters Genre: Romance, Paranormal Blurb: Detective Reece Gallagher has spent the last decade working as a cop in Chicago so he can search for her—the red-haired woman who haunts his dreams.
Favorite quotes: “That’s why I want time. I want to mate with you, Hannah.” He cupped her face in his big hands. “I want you to understand that. But I’ll wait months or years, whatever it takes. Just promise you’ll stay.” “She’s fierce. When Jacque and Cole came upon her, she jumped up to defend you with nothing more than a stick.” Thoughts: She was a half-breed, a wolf in her soul, but not in truth…and in that way, Wolf In Her Soul is aptly named. Hannah is a half-breed who has a stalker on her hands and winds up in the path of cop, Reece Gallagher – who fans of the series will recognize as Sage’s twin brother and who now gets his own story and a mate of his own! Both characters are strong and likeable, and the series just seems to get better and better with each book. I am a fan of N.J Walters, and rather than a series slowly becoming stale as the books keep coming, it is quite the reverse. All of them are great of course, and I recommend reading them in order due to interconnected characters, but I have enjoyed the last few books the most. This one can be read as a standalone though since the author does a great job of balancing information that will put you in the loop if you are a new fan, but not overwhelming fans with monotonous information. Another five star review for one of my favorites! Rate: A Review by: Sarah http://www.thebookreadinggals.com
Wolf in Her Soul by N.J. Walters is book #8 in the exciting Salvation Pack series. An action packed, fast paced, romantic suspense that's a definite must read! This emotional roller-coaster of a story has wonderful characters, humor, angst, intense situations, danger, and surprise twists that will have you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. Another excellent story by Walters, and I can't wait to read the rest of the series!
Although I wasn't able to read the previous books prior to this one, I had no difficulties keeping up with the characters, the story, or the dynamics of the pack. This book left me intrigued with the other characters, and I'm looking forward to going back to read all of their stories.
There wasn't anything in this story that I didn't like. It was well written, had a smooth flow, and kept my interest throughout the entire book. I really enjoyed the main characters, how they did/didn't interact with one another, and that they didn't fall into an insta-love relationship. Yes, Reece knew that he was meant to be there to protect her, that they're mates, and he did have strong feelings for her. However, Hannah being on her own for so long made her skeptical about trusting him, what he said about them being mates, and her feelings for him. I loved that they took their time to get to know one another, even though someone was hunting them, and learned to trust each other, as well as their feelings towards the other. It made their relationship more special, at least ro me. I also liked how the author gave just enough details about the other characters, who they were and how they got together, but didn't give away spoilers to their stories.
This book can be read as a stand alone, and I'm assuming that the others can as well. However, if they're all as fantastic as this one was, I definitely suggest that you start from the beginning of the series. I will be doing this as well.
I strongly recommend this book, series, and outstanding author.
I have voluntarily reviewed this complimentary copy provided by the publisher via NetGalley.
This is the 8th book in the “Salvation Pack” series. This is also (at the time I read this book) the first in this series that I had read. I felt this can easily be read as a standalone. I felt the author did a great job with giving the readers some background but not so much to make it too wordy and boring. Most people ignore their dreams but not Chicago police detective Reece Gallagher, he goes as far as moving away from his family, from his pack to find his dream. Unfortunately, after ten years and only seeing his dream from the back of her head, Reece, is ready to go home. He's got one more case to solve then it's back to North Carolina. Hannah Burdette knows someone is following her as she walks to work at an ungodly hour. Of course having a job as a barista someone has to. After being in hiding all life and on her own since the young age of 18, she's learned when it's time to move on. When Hannah is a block from work she gets attacked and not by your regular everyday attacker but by a wolf dressed as human. Lucky for her she knows all about them but not so lucky for her, this is the very species she has been hiding from because being a half breed is not acceptable in eyes of some packs. After her attack Hannah reluctantly goes to the ER. In her dizzying attempt to run, Reece stops her so he can question her about the attack. When Reece realizes Hannah is the dream girl he's been searching for, his mate, he knows he will do anything to protect her and get them both back to the safety of his pack. But can Hannah give Reece her trust so easily, her heart? Guess you'll have to read it for your self to find out! After reading this story I just had to get more from this series and look forward to reading more. If you like shifter books with action, suspense and a little mystery, this is a read for you. Enjoy!
***I voluntarily reviewed this ARC for an honest review via NetGalley, this is my honest opinion and has not been influenced by the author, Publishers or NetGalley in anyway.*** Thank you!
I received a copy of this e-book and am voluntarily leaving an honest opinion.
Reece has spent 10 years away from his family in N. Carolina. He has been in Chicago because of a dream..of a red-headed woman. He can't see her face but he knows he needs to save her because she is his mate.
Hannah has been running since she was 18, from full-blooded shifters who are out to kill those who aren't full blooded. She has been in Chicago for 3-4 months working at a coffee café. She feels like she may be leaving soon as she is feeling she is being watched for several days in a row. One morning, a half block from her job, she is attacked. Luckily her boss was watching for her and runs to help but Hannah was also fighting for her life. The attacker flees.
The police are called and Reece comes to investigate and he sees her and knows she is the one...his mate.
Can he keep Hannah safe? Can he convince her she is safe with him? Will she finally realize he is her mate?
Hannah is very wary of Reece as he tries to keep her safe. She doesn't believe he cares because she was told from as far back as she can remember that wolf/human mixed had to die. She was taught to protect herself. Reece takes her back to his home and pack in N. Carolina and feels they won't welcome her. But she will never have a chance if she doesn't survive her attacker....
I really did like this book but feel that 1 or 2 issues were left unresolved. Does it affect the story? No but one of the issues was quite the shock to Hannah. I probably would have given it a 5 if these issues were resolved.
I loved the N. Carolina pack Reece belonged too and his brother was as awesome as Reece. Their relationship was heartwarming.
I would recommend this book to those that enjoy Shifter stories.
I loved, loved Reece and Hannah’s fated mates shifter romance with a side of running from a serial killer. The ratcheting up of the suspense expertly balanced with the romance was delicious perfection. The sections from the killer’s POV were so creepy and added additional nail biting trepidation to the suspenseful plot. Reece is a half-breed werewolf who can shift. He has been working in Chicago for a decade as a police detective. He has lived away from his pack because of a a recurring dream about a red haired woman that needs him. Hannah is a half-breed werewolf that is living in Chicago as a barista and photographer trying to keep a low profile. When she is attacked by a werewolf who knows her name, Reece is the detective assigned to the case. Reece takes one look at Hannah and realizes she is the woman from his dream and also his mate. Now he just has to convince her to seek safety with his pack while trying to thwart a murderer. The story was well written and included witty dialogue, three dimensional characters who grow, and an engaging storyline. It included sweet moments, steamy scenes, dangerous situations, evil actors, fated mates, loyal friends, painful pasts, plot twists, and laughs. I love the Salvation Pack and this series.
Great story! Another great book in this series. I couldn't wait to read Reece's story. Poor guy has been living and working as a detective in Chicago. All because of a dream he had about a red headed woman. He knows once he finds her she will be his mate. Reece can't take living in the stinky city anymore. He gave his 2 week notice at work. He couldn't wait to get back to his pack land. He and his partner go to check out an assault on a woman. Reece is at the crime scene and can smell a werewolf. He's pretty sure a full blooded werewolf was involved. Once he gets to the hospital to question the victim he realizes she's the girl from his dream. Her name is Hannah. Reece can't believe it. So he now considers himself as her protector. But Hannah is nervous. She doesn't trust easily. Reece knows he needs to get her out of the city to keep her safe. She does have a werewolf after her cause she's a half breed. He's been killing them for years. He ends up following them out of the city for hours. He sets himself up in his SUV to crash into their truck. Reece is knocked out but Hannah isn't. She knows she'll need to lead the bad guy away from Reece or he'll kill him. So she takes off running into the woods with him following and taunting her. Will Reece be able to save her and himself?
Remember Reece when we first met him? Even if you don’t, this story is a really great addition to the world of werewolves. This book can probably be read as a standalone, but would be better appreciated as part of the larger world.
Reece is a detective, a werewolf, and he’s also a closet romantic. After dreaming of a mystery for most of his life, he has been hoping for her arrival for years. When he finally reaches his breaking point, ready to head home to be with his twin and pack again, she stumbles right into his world. Hannah, the mystery woman, doesn’t have the most wonderful introduction to Reece. She’s stalked, attacked, and is in the hospital when they finally meet one another.
While Reece is ready to dive right into a relationship, Hannah has a little bit harder time adjusting to this world where she’s not somehow “less” because of her partial werewolf heritage. Who knew an abandoned young girl could somehow end up inheriting such a wonderfully protective mate and family? The romance is somewhere between fated mates and regular paranormal romance levels, but don’t worry – these two light up the pages! As a standalone or companion to the series, this book is definitely a great read.

As far as Shifter romance books goes, I loved this one. I didn't read any of the other books in this series, but now I kind of want to just to see everyone else's story. Definitely would recommend!
Detective Reece Gallagher and his partner have been called to a murder scene. The killer set fire to the body to destroy the evidence. Reece is a half breed werewolf and knows that the victim is as well. Hannah Burdette has always kept a low profile to stop anyone finding out what she is. Her werewolf father drummed it in to her that she will always be in danger. With a vicious killer on the loose Chicago is no longer a safe place to be. This particular killer has an agenda he has been carrying out for years, but when he stumbles across one of the reasons for his rage it gets more personal. Our heroine has been abandoned by those who should love her, and that has made her strong and very self sufficient. Our hero is a born protector, but life in the big city is proving too much. It's time to return to his living family. This is part of a series but easily read alone. It will however tempt you to go and find the others. A very exciting read.
This is a quick moving story that I just loved. While it is part of a series, this is the first book that I've read by the author and don't feel like I missed anything from the story. Having said that, I will go back and read the earlier books - I just enjoyed it that much.
Reece is a police detective that responds when Hannah is assaulted. He immediately realizes that she is part wolf, as she realizes he is full wolf. As her attacker was full wolf, she is frightened by Reece, but he immediately recognizes her as his mate and makes it his mission to protect her and take care of her. With Hannah's difficult childhood, she is very wary and this adds lots of angst to their relationship.
Between the attack, the paranormal, and the romance, this is a thoroughly entertaining novel that fans of the genre will love. I'm looking forward to working my way through the authors' backlist and only wish I'd discovered her sooner.
Wolf in Her Soul by N.J. Walters begins like a police thriller with the reader seeing inside the murderer’s head. From there the suspense builds as well as the romance. What makes this unique is the paranormal aspects and the mystical dreams aspects.
The plot is strong, the perspectives varied with the main characters and the murderers. The hero, Reece is a good cop werewolf that has made it in the human world. I liked him a lot but after meeting Hannah, his alpha disposition became clear. Hannah is a tough, well-liked nomad thanks to her half-breed status. Their relationship grows in direct proportion to the danger surrounding Hannah. The twisted motives of the killer become clearer as the story proceeds, making it an exciting romantic read.
Wolf in Her Soul is an engrossing read. It is part of a series but I had not problem enjoying this book without having read the entire series.
4.5 Stars An ARC of the book was given to me by the publisher through Net Galley.
Reece is here. So excited about this book and it did not disappoint. Reece has been in Chicago, away from his pack for 10 years, waiting for the girl he’s been dreaming about. There is a half-breed werewolf killer loose in the city and he’s set his sights on the dream girl, Hannah. Let me just say that Hannah is kind of a badass. That girls is tough as nails. At one point in the story, Reece is knocked out and she is standing over him unknowingly threatening the shifted males of his pack....see badass.
This book takes us through the chase and Reece going home after 10 long years away from everyone. I absolutely love this pack series. This group of people are some if my favorites ever. And I absolutely adore Cole’s little girl, Amy, and Gator’s little boy, Etienne. These two are exactly opposites, but both make an equally large impact....hopefully we get to see them grown up *hint, hint*. Love this series. Can’t wait for the next book.
Reece, a detective, is running down a dream, literally. For a decade he's had visions of one woman, his mate, and he's determined to find her. He's separated himself from his pack in order to find her, and just as he's beginning to think he may never find her, he does, and she's the assault victim in his new case.
Hannah has a secret she's never told anyone, and yet, someone knows and they're stalking her, determined to rid the world of her "impure" blood. When she meets the detective in charge of her case and is told he's a werewolf, and her mate, she's unsure, but also knows who better to keep her safe than a pack of wolves, and the one claiming she's his everything.
Can Reece protect her? Can Hannah trust Reece when all she's known is betrayal? What exactly is she? Will Reece and Hannah get their HEA?
One-click now and follow along as two people finally meet and start living the dream.
