Diana was different from the other people around her, and she had nobody to talk to about her problem. Her magical problem. Diana is a witch, the last of her kind. Living in a quiet town with her best friends, Laurel and Ricky, only made her feel more isolated. A night out gone wrong sees Diana being chased by a hunter. Not just any hunter, but the one that made witches like her disappear without a trace.
Dante had been searching far and wide for the last witch of the Sucre, but what he found hadn't fallen in his plans of 'search for and detain'. No, this witch was something else; something he never expected. With High Priestess Invidia watching his every move, he had to be careful with each step that he took. When a major decision is made, and evil reveals itself can Dante do what is right by his queen? Will Diana have enough courage to step up to her destiny or will evil win again?
Nooo…! Why was this only a standalone??? This is my fifth book by Dawn Doyle and, as was the case with Amy Harmon, her first venture into fantasy was amazing!!! Seriously, all of these new fantasy novels by established New Adult contemporary authors make me so happy! May I have some more, please?! :D It appears that September is turning into my month of great, but under-hyped reads!
As no one seems to have even heard of this book, I’ll try to convince you all to read it, to the best of my ability. ;)
PSA: This is New Adult, so although there is no profanity, there is some sexual content.
Ok, here goes! This book seems to be an urban fantasy / high fantasy hybrid because the beginning of the novel takes place in England, whereas the remainder of it is set in Fae Brook (guess who lives there, OMG? xD) In fact, this novel includes all sorts of fun creatures: witches, faeries, elves, trolls, dragons (not really, but you’ll see), etc.
It actually reminded me a lot of A Discovery of Witches and Charmed, the telly show, because Diana suddenly learns of her true identity and the full-extent of her magical abilities, having been kept in the dark for the majority of her life. She is 23 years of age, working in a nursery, and is secretly hiding that she is, in fact, a witch. The last of her kind, actually, as they’ve all been hunted and killed for their abilities. Her parents brought her to this realm in order to both protect her and their legacy, which left her in her Aunt’s care for the majority of her life.
However, an ancient prophecy is about to alter the life that Diana has always known. Invidia, the High Priestess, has sent the Council’s witch hunter, Dante, after the last witch of the Sucre (aka Diana). He has been given orders to assassinate her, but will he? This was such a page turner filled with wondrous fantasy, cute romance, and suspenseful, hidden agendas. It was so enjoyable, and just what I needed to read at the time!
Despite my enjoyment of this, however, I had to take a star off for the instalove in this book. They fell in love a bit too hard and a bit too fast, for it to seem believable. With the exception of that, there were very few flaws, when taking Dawn Doyle’s phenomenal writing style (although my favourite book of hers is still Soul Guardian <3) into consideration. I hope that you all enjoy this as much as I did! :D
Witch Hunter by Dawn Doyle a fantastic fantasy five-star read. This is the first book in the Rise to Power series, and It promises to be a great series. I have read a couple of books by this author previously and she always writes a great story. This is a great fantasy and one that will have you thinking long after you have finished reading, the characters are so great that they won’t stop talking to you. The story line is great, it makes you want to keep reading and keep going with every page, once you start this story you won’t be able to put it down. There are plot twists that keep you guessing and characters that will make you stop and think, have you second guessing if you think you know what’s happening, it’s very up and down but in a methodical way so you know sort of what’s coming but it’s enough to keep you guessing all the way. If you want to get lost in a great story in a great world then this is the read for you.
Witch Hunter: Rise to Power is a breathtaking fantasy by Dawn Doyle. This story took me on an exciting adventure, full of magic, Witches, Elves, Fae, mystery, intrigue, drama, romance and action. Ms. Doyle has a real talent for world building, because what she created here was so vivid, rich, vibrant, exquisitely detailed, descriptive and totally believable. The characters were also masterfully crafted- they were complex, interesting, fully developed and very endearing (or not in the case of some). The story coaxed me in, seducing me further and further into the book, and before long you’re addicted, with no hope of putting down the book till you’ve read every word. Diana Veneficias is twenty-three years old and works for a landscaping company, growing plants in their nursery, a job she really loves. But there is more to her than anyone realises- she is a witch, the last of her kind. Her parents had died, leaving her in the care of her Aunt who raised Diana as her own. She thought Aunt Alison was the only other person who knew her secret. But Diana is soon to discover that others are aware of her existence and will do everything they can to eradicate her because of the threat she poses in the form of an ancient prophecy. One night out on the town with her friends will change her life forever, and is where this adventure really kicks off. Dante is a powerful hunter and fighter in the employ of the Council, and the High Priestess, Invidia. He had been ordered to hunt down the last witch of the Sucre and assassinate her. He knew of the prophecy, but he suspects that he knows the real reason behind his orders. He wasn’t fooled by the High Priestess. But, he sets off with Oscapio (his sword), to find the witch and eliminate her. There is so much more to the story than meets the eye. This is an epic tale full of wonder, danger, good, evil, hidden agendas and fulfilling your destiny. I think the less you know going into this story, the better, because it’s full of surprises, twists, and suspense. Not knowing who to trust, as well as the gripping storyline, makes this a real page turner that you won’t want to miss. One of my favourite reads for the year. I can always count on Ms. Doyle to produce the goods, and this story was no exception. I can’t wait her next book.
Witch Hunter: Rise to Power Dawn Doyle 5 out of 5 stars Witch Hunter: Rise to Power by Dawn Doyle is a fantasy paranormal book. This was my first read from her and I was not disappointed, this book held my attention from beginning to end. She has action, romance and adventure in this unique book. I had to make myself adult while I read. Diana has just learned she is a witch and she has been searching for another witch like herself to help her learn the powers she holds. Dante is a hunter whose Queen has ordered him to track down the last witch. The twists and turns these two are thrown into kept me absolutely hooked until the end. Reading about the different places and creatures they went to and saw, I must say I was intrigued by her imagination completely. The details she added made the book 100% and I can’t wait to read more. This is a unique book that I recommend and regardless if you love paranormal or are new to it this book will get you hooked.
A great story that you should give a try if your into paranormal Fantasy. This was my first book by Dawn Doyle and I am ready for more. This is a very promising series and I can't wait to see what is coming up next.
A lot of twists in the story I wasn't seeing coming. The story went very smoothly and I loved how there were a few POV in this story. The characters are what make this story so good.
A great story and would definitely recommend this to paranormal fanasty fans.
Witch Hunter: The Rise to Power by Dawn Doyle is a paranormal fantasy book. This is my first story by this author and I enjoyed her creativeness of details and characters. This story is told in two different perspectives plus added flashbacks. I normally don't care for flashbacks because they are hard to keep up with. This author did a great job of keeping the story flowing with the flashbacks and present time. There are some twists and turns with these characters that will leave you sitting on the edge of your seat and wanting more. You don't know what lurks behind every corner until you turn the page. This is the story of Diana and Dante. Diana has found out that she was a witch when she turned eighteen. She has powers that she has learned to control and without that control she could hurt others which she doesn't want. She tries to live a quiet life until one night when all that changed. She meets a witch hunter and not just any witch hunter but the kind that makes witches disappear forever. This is where Dante enters the story as the witch hunter. He has been given an order by the queen and that is to find Diana and take care of her. What will happen? You will need to read this story to see what happens with them! Dante is a good-bad character that is hot looking. In my opinion I am not so sure his job makes him happy but he does what he needs to. He is strong and has a side to him that is different then the hunter side. Diana is strong, independent and knows what she wants. She has the flashbacks which I am not sure about other then it gives you background information on her. I enjoyed her character as she doesn't necessarily understand herself but by the end of the book she grows quite a bit. I also enjoyed the secondary characters as they really did just make this story flow and it wouldn't be the same without them. I highly recommend this story as I know you will want to see if this hunter is able to get his target.
With Hunter (Rise to Power) by Dawn Doyle is by far one of my most favourite books of the year. This is lush read full of magic, mystery and romance, but most of all it's about excepting who you are.
Diana is placed in a heard place, she is forced to accept that she is the one that will change things. Learning to control her powers, when she has nothing to fall back on, growing up hiding, and feeling along, took its told on her. She's a power house, and I loved how the author didn't just have her accept everything like it was normal. The emotions were raw and it made you connect.
Dante, he's a bit of a mystery at first, and believe me, I was convent that he wasn't all that he said he was. The opening was so convening that I didn't really trust him until almost the end of the book. Because of that mistrust I felt like he grew the most, not only as a character but as a person in this fictional world. It also helps that he's swoon worthy. Oh buddy. I wouldn't kick him out of bed for eating crackers. ;)
The only thing that I didn't fully like, was that at times, I felt that there some over descriptions. I'm not a fan of too much detail on mundane things. I have a pretty overactive imagination, so telling me every detail of a kitchen, doesn't cut it. But overall, I loved this book. The wold was deep, rich and I felt like it could be real. There was a depth to it that I find most otherworld fantasy's miss.
Take my high recommendation that this tale of power, is something that you need to read. The plot is the main focus, the romance adds to this and doesn't overpower the importance of the story. You will get hooked, you will get sucked into this word and feel just a frustrated as Dante with the way it was taken over. You will root for Diana to succeed, to concur and to take her place.
Witch Hunter: The Rise to Power By: Dawn Doyle 5 out of 5 stars
The story Witch Hunter: The Rise to Power by Dawn Doyle is a fantasy book. This is a wonderful story that will have you believing in witches, magic, and love. I have always loved fantasy books as they take you to different worlds that you can get lost in. This is an author who has created an amazing story with characters that you will not soon forget. This is the story of Diana. She is a witch who in one night finds her world turning upside down as revelations and prophecies are revealed. That is the night that she meets Dante, a hunter who has been sent to find her. What happens next is a journey that had me quickly turning pages to find out what happens and who will be the ones left standing. The author is wonderful in providing details in regarding the different worlds that these characters travel to as well as the magical creatures that are part of these worlds. You delve into what has happened in the past, what needs to happen now and what could possibly happen in the future. She has an awesome imagination. There are quite a few secondary characters that you are introduced to in the story and most of them are helpful, wanting good to triumph over evil. There are those however who side with evil and only care about themselves, the power they have and the power they want to possess. Who will prevail? This is the second book that I have read by the author and I look forward to reading more of her stories.
Witch Hunter: The Rise to Power is a paranormal fantasy story. Dawn Doyle is an extremely creative writer. Her details in her descriptions of the surroundings made me feel like I was actually there. She used a plethora of characters which added depth to her story. She wrote about a fantastic magical world which I would have loved to experience.
Diana is a witch with incredible powers who has a hard time keeping them under control. She only found out what she was when she turned eighteen. A few years later, she still has no answers to her multitude of questions. Throughout the story she finds out that she is the last of her kind, the last of the Sucre. There is a prophecy that she is going to save the world, which she finds hard to believe.
Dante is a Hunter for the evil priestess Invidia. She sends him out to search for Diana and kill her. When he did find her, she is not what he expected. Both their lives take a turn and they must follow their hearts. Dante must be very careful for Invidia watches his every move.
In this lethal game of chess they are playing, who will come out on top? Will it be the white queen or the black? Will the prophecy come to pass or will evil win? This is a book I highly recommend, very entertaining.
Witch Hunter: The Rise to Power by Dawn Doyle is a wonderful fantasy story that sees you getting lost in a world where there is a myriad of mystical and magical characters. I have a passion for fantasy books where you get drawn into different worlds full of witches and magic and Dawn has done a great job doing just that.
Diana is just an ordinary girl living in an ordinary world or so she thinks, that is until one night when finds her world turning upside down. Everything she thought she knew and everything she thought she had known changed in the blink of an eye.
Dante has his mission and if not followed certainly means death. Prophecies as revelations mean the end of his world and would mean the end of all he has worked towards. Being a hunter means bringing about the end to all those who could destroy it all.
Dawns imagination has cleverly crafted a story that has you turning page after page to find out what happens with these magical creatures and hoping against hope that good can triumph over evil. When friends turn into foes and foes into friends who can you trust?
This is the first book that I have read by this author and and it certainly won’t be the last as I look forward to reading more of her stories full of witches, magic, and love.
I recently dove into Witch Hunter by Dawn Doyle and was mildly surprised by what I found.
I came across a book that has some Paranormal as well as a Fantasy world. We get to meet Diana, a witch and the last of her kind. She happens to have some pretty strong powers, which unfortunately she had to learn about on her own. But regardless of the struggles that she has had, she has a pretty good life, with friends that she loves, and an adoptive aunt that adores her!
We also meet Dante – a half-elf and half-human. Which basically makes him a Halfling, super strong but with NO magical powers whatsoever. He’s been tasked with hunting down the last witch, because according to a prophecy – she’s extremely dangerous to their world.
The story I felt like was a little slow at the beginning, but once it picks up, it’s wonderful. The author’s ability to create different worlds – and intertwine them is what really surprised me. She did a great job in her character development, and in keeping the reader’s attention.
Once I was able to settle in, I enjoyed myself as well as the story and characters. I found myself rooting for a certain someone. It was refreshing to read such a unique book. This was a definite 4 Stars for me.
Witch Hunter: The Rise to Power by Dawn Doyle is a fantasy novel that follows the story of Diana and Dante. These two couldn’t be more different. Diana has just recently learned that she is a witch, one with powers she barely understands let alone knows how to control. Dante is a hunter tasked by his queen to find Diana and do what he does best, make the threat she poses disappear. What neither of them expected was the twist and turns life can bring you when you least expect it. I’m new to this author and she’s going to be on my list of favorites if all her books are this good! I literally couldn’t get enough of this story, truly a page turner! This book had a little bit of everything, action, adventure, romance, and above all else a truly original storyline. All of the characters were honest and relatable. The story was well thought out and even some of the plot devices that could have taken away from the flow only helped to tie everything together. An amazing story and definitely deserving of my five star rating. If you’re looking for a book in the Fantasy area then I recommend this be your go to!
I've finished the book but my head is still in the story, I loved Diana's character, she has no idea who she is or the power she holds and unless she learns a way to control it and quickly she's a danger not only to her enemies but her friends as well. Dante, as one of the councils hunters is sent to do the high priestess invidia's bidding which usually involves being given an execution order of any magical folk invidia deems is a threat to her, a job he's good at, once he's tracked down his target they disappear never to be seen again so when he's sent to 'deal' with the last Sucre, Diana's life takes a dramatic turn the likes of which she could never have imagined. Things are not always as they appear, when it seems like friends deceive and enemies may be trustworthy Diana must learn who she is to fulfil a destiny she never knew existed. A fantastic world and great storyline that easily engages the reader. I'm not sure how the author has never reached my radar before but that's definitely something I'm going to rectify now.
Witch Hunter: The Rise to Power Dawn Doyle 5 Stars
Witch Hunter by Dawn Doyle is a five star with witches, magic and of course falling in love. The author did an amazing job of creating the fantasy land that had witches, elves, fae, romance and plenty of action. The witch of the story is Diana Veneficias, she is the last of her kind being raised by her Aunt Alison after both her parents died. But, things are changing, finding out that others knew of her existence and that being part of an ancient prophecy is going to kill her. Enters Dante, powerful witch hunter working for the Council and the High Priestess, he was ordered to hunt down and kill the last witch, Diana. But, then he meets Diana and the journey and adventure begins. Will Dante follow through with his orders? Will Diana get a better understanding of her powers? What happens to the two of them? The author did a terrific job of creating this world and the characters in it. The story flowed beautifully even with the changing of points of view in the story and the flashbacks. I highly recommend this story.
Intrigue, betrayal, battle, loss and love, what a wonderful fantasy Dawn Doyle has created in Witch Hunter: Rise To Power. Ms. Doyle has created a rich, vivid, colorful world populated by amazing people. Her powers of description are simply fantastic. She gives such intricate detail that you feel like you can reach out and touch whatever she is describing. Her imagination seems to know no bounds. Ms Doyle has created a shining gem of a book. I loved everything about it. Her descriptions of everything from settings to characters are full of rich, vibrant color. She brings her world to life with glorious detail. Her characters start out at one level and grow throughout the story. The interaction between them is believable and real. This is fantasy at its best. I highly recommend this book.
Witch Hunter: The Rise to Power written by Dawn Doyle. I loved this story it was a nice little break from current day romance novels. Diana was a great character reading how she interacts and reacts to situations is funny and entertaining. Her best friend Laurel is a great friend and always showing her things and trying to be there for her. Watching those two interact as best friends and roommates is hilarious. Enter Dante. He is brooding and serious, he has a task and a goal but can he complete the task once he meets Diana. Shes not what he expects at all. This story was fun and a nice change of pace, it kept me pulled in the entire time. The way the story is told, alternating from Dante to Diana shows you scene by scene how the story could go, but once you think you know what’s going to happen, nope.
Witch Hunter is the first novel in the Rise to Power series by Dawn Doyle. This is my first novel by this author.
Diana learns that she is a witch, searches for more people of her kind to teach her how to control her powers.
The night her world changes, is the night she meets Dante, the hunter who was sent to kill her. From there, things takes a huge turn.
While I don’t read a lot of stories about witches, reading this makes me want to. I loved the dual points of few and flashbacks. It’s more engaging to the story to read backstory of characters, And the secondary characters were amazing to. Most times, secondary characters are forgettable and doesn't bring much to the story. It was a refreshing change.
I look forward to reading more in this series and more by this author. I hope the next book has a cover just like this one.
This was my first read from Dawn Doyle and it won't be my last. Her story telling is very smooth and the world she creates is truly magical. The story of Diana and Dante is told in multiple point of views and through present time and flash backs, as well through diffrent realms. Doyle makes the transitions very smooth and easy to follow. She has a way to keep you engaged from begining to end. I love fantasy books because of the new worlds I am introduced to and this one doesn't disappoint! I was 100% engaged and on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. I give Dawn Doyle's Witch Hunter: The rise to power 5 of 5 stars for its original storyline and being an addictive easy read.
Wow, what an amazing start to such a great promising series from Dawn. This is my first book from Dawn and it was an epic paranormal fantasy.
I absolutely loved the double POV and flashbacks, they made this read current and flowed extremely well was never confusing which made this an even more enjoyable read. The characters/storyline made this novel what it is by giving you just enough to want to keep turning the pages to get to the twists that leave you on the edge of your seat. Super stoked to see what happens in the rest of the series.
When I finished the book, I yelled no! I don't want it to be over. This story completely captivated my attention and had my imagination flowing. I cared about the characters and what happened to them and wanted to know more about them. Dawn has a great way of telling a story, letting just enough to spill out on the page before changing direction, only to bring it all together. To say that I love this book is so cliche, but I will say it. I love this book!! If you like a little fantasy, mixed with a touch of love, then you should read this.
Witch Hunter: The Rise to Power by Dawn Doyle is an awesome paranormal/fantasy! 4 stars! The story is written in 3rd person alternating POV. First off, the cover....wow, just wow...it's absolutely gorgeous! The story itself is highly engaging, and a fast read. The flow had an ease & realness to it that I loved. The characters were vividly shaped, and their progression was believable. There was suspense, drama, levity, and plenty of twists to keep you guessing! Really enjoy the chemistry between witch & the hunter;) Can't wait to read more from this author!
Here is a story about a Witch Diana and a Hunter Dante. This is an amazing story about these two individuals. I am not going to give any spoilers but I would suggest reading this book in one reading and let it be absorbed and then read it again. I love when an author does that two you. She makes the world and characters that you cannot wait to see what is coming next. Dawn Doyle has a wonderful balance in her story. She has the ability to transport you into her realm. This was my first book and it will not be my last by Dawn Doyle.
Witch Hunter: The Rise to Power is a fantasy paranormal by Dawn Doyle. Fantasy is by far my favorite genre and this book had two of my favorite aspects to a fantasy book: witches and magic! The author was very descriptive and detailed. This book follows Dawn and Dante. Dawn has just discovered her powers, and Dante is a hunter that was sent by the queen to destroy Dawn before she becomes a threat seeing that she is in an ancient prophecy deeming her the destined one to save the world. Dawn has to figure out as she goes what she can do with her powers.
The book cover is initially got my attention, beautiful & unique. But it's is the story what held my attention. Fantasy isnt my usual genre but Dawns story could definitely change my mind. The author does an amazing job of having her readers feel & experience everything that the characters go through. The characters are well developed & the storyline is extremely unique. It was like watching the scenes unfold and come to life.
Witch Hunter The rise to Power by Dawn Doyle is a great paranormal read with wonderful surprises and revelations that kept me up devouring chapter after chapter inti the late hours of the night. The main character is taken away from everything she knows and feels lost and she can only go along to find out what is truly going on and why she is so dangerous. I liked that nothing was really as it seemed. Doyle tells a great story with this book I look forward to reading more from her.
Witch hunter by dawn doyle is a supernatural romance that builds a very believable fantasy world. My only issue with this story is that sometimes the descriptions of the environment detract a little bit from the story as they can be quite lengthy. But other than that the characters are well developed and the plot lines interesting. The action was not quite fast paced enough for me but when it does happen it is explosive and entertaining.
This is the first time I have read a story by this author and so glad I found her. She has a way with words that gives you great story with intriguing twists and turns and keeps you on the edge of your seat. You will get to go on a very imaginative and captivating journey with Diane and Dante, two strong and interesting characters. This well written story is told using 2 different viewpoints and the use of flashbacks and you will find it hard to put down once you start reading.
I give Witch Hunter: The Rise to Power by Dawn Doyle 5 stars.
This is fantasy at its best. The story in so involved and engrossing, I could not put it down. There is so much going on, both with Diana and with Dante. These are two lost, lonely people who come together to fulfill a supposed prophecy. But there is so much more going on than just that.
This is written in Tolkien fashion, with a modern twist. It showcases not only Diana and how she manages all that she is learning, but what happens when two worlds collide. I absolutely loved this book and recommend it for any adult looking for a good, fun read that will keep you totally engrossed.
Witch Hunter The Rise to Power by Dawn Doyle is a great sci-fi fantasy read about a witch hiding in plain site and the halfblood tasked to kill her. This story is exceedingly well written which makes the book flow smoothly. The flashes between characters is seamless so you aren’t lost in the story and feel like you have missed something. I will definitely be on the look out for more from this author.
!!I absolutely love paranormal. This book didnt disapoint. It left you hooked and guessing until the very end. You are thinking one guy is awful and he completely blows you away. This book gives you the feels, you are on the edge of your seat willing them on in their journey. The epilogue made my day also!!
