Dear Dixie is a legacy Falls novel and can be read as a standalone. I must confess that I am not that much into military novels
and its deviations (e.g. veteran novels). Nevertheless, this book was very touching and I just couldn't put it down until. The world
of romance novels is so full of steamy plots but there are some books that develop a plot that truly touches your heartstrings and I
believe this is one of them because it goes beyond the sexual content and into an actual soul connection between the hero and
the heroine. Those you love stories, where the hero falls in love with this best friend's sister, are going to love this. In fact, I had
a very amusing time reading about our hero (Zane) and heroine (Dixie) acting like teenagers all over the story. I loved how the novel reflects the insecurities that we store after hurtful experiences and how we let those affect our lives, mostly for the worse.
Also, how this novel is a shout out to all those that are trying to hide themselves in a shell of who they used to be or of who
they could be. Zane and Dixie were hurt in different ways and it might be a little cliche to say that two broken hearts can make
a whole, but I loved the fact that they were trying to move forward, each in their own unique way.
This novel is an about friendship, lost, overcoming grieve, repentance, love, but mostly, giving yourself another chance at life and
happiness. I truly recommend it to any book lover that wish to cry, laugh and smile all day long.

Dear Dixie by J. L. Baldwin is a Legacy Falls novella about a young woman with severe anxiety following the death of her parents and then her brother. Dealing with depression and her anxiety as well as nursing a broken heart from her first love, Zane, who didn't returned her feelings. Zane, also dealing with anxiety, depression and PTSD from his time in the Army and losing comrades including his best friend and Dixies brother, Charlie.

I felt an emotional draw to Dixie and Zane separately and the events that they have had to experience. But the connection between the 2 was lacking for me, otherwise, I enjoyed most of this story and the journey that Dixie and Zane took to get to where they are and want to be.

I voluntarily reviewed this advanced reader copy and I have not been compensated in any way.

J.L. Baldwin is a new author to me. This book, oh gosh this book will tug at the heartstrings. I found myself tearing up, and laughing out loud. Its a quick read with a good plot and flow after a bit. I found the beginning to be slow but it needed to be to get the plot point across. The author did a great job in her way of getting across anxiety and PTSD. There could be triggers for some so read with caution. This book can be read as a standalone novel.

This is the story of Dixie and Zane in the aftermath of a tragedy.

Dixie whole life changed in the blink of an eye. First, her parents then not too long after losing her parents she loses her best friend and brother Charlie to the war. Dixie suffers from anxiety and it can be debilitating. I felt like I was right there with her and her heartbreak. She finds solace in her animals at the aquarium. She is on her way to becoming a marine biologist, but she can't stop thinking about her brothers best friend Zane. The one that she had a crush on since she was a little girl.

Zane feels like the whole world is on his shoulders. He feels responsible for his best friend's death. They joined up together. Where Charlie never wanted his little sister there, Zane had a huge soft spot. Zane is learning to deal with his issues and he isn’t doing well. Then he gets an unexpected phone call from someone he least expected.

They both want closure or do they? Dixie’s heart is still reeling from years ago when Zane broke her heart in the pool house when she was seventeen. He never looked back. Then he is now back and she hasn’t seen him until the funeral of her brother. The feelings from their young lives are still there you can sense it. Then we time jump, again another year forward. You can still feel the unresolved feeling. Then at the request of her therapist, she partakes in a pen pal program to get her feelings out. On the flip side, Zane is encouraged to do the same.

Now with all that said it was a good strong read that was raw and full of emotion. You never knew what is going to happen. There is push, pull, drama, angst and as I said such strong emotions.

I loved the secondary people. Oh, how I just loved Drew. He was a good guy but a manwhore. He was there for Zane and had his back. He was a good friend. Then there was Mel, Dixie’s friend. She was good for Dixie. Made her see the light at the end of the tunnel and pushed her when she needed it.

The book was so good. I was sucked in and had to see if they could they could get past the demons, either together or apart. The story unfolds in a gripping way. I look forward to more.

Dear Dixie was a great 5 star read.

Dixie is trying to pick up the pieces after losing her parents and than her brother. She is struggling with grief. I keep thinking God is playing a mean game with me and is going to take me next.

Zane is also struggling with grief following his best friend Charlie’s death. Since the funeral he hasn’t been able to get Dixie, Charlie’s little sister off his mind. Never in a million years did I think Dixie would become the goddess she is today.

We go between past and present through the story. This helps give a little back history on both Dixie and Zane. When Dixie makes a call to Zane they arrange to meet for drinks. These two reconnect but Dixie is a little leary of Zane, he has already broke her heart once before.
Can she forgive him? Can these two help each other heal from the loss of their loved ones?

I really liked this book, it really pulls you in and you see a story of two people trying to move forward from their losses. They each are struggling with depression and Zane also suffers from PTSD and survivors guilt. The secondary characters were great. And I loved the ending, it couldn’t have been more perfect. My emotions were all over the place. J.L. Baldwin does a great job with this story and it pulls you right in.

My heart broke for dixie and zane for all they had to endure at such a young age. dixie and zane were more alike than what they thought, both suffered panic attacks, they both blamed themselves for things completely out or their control. I like how dixie therapist suggest she gets a pen pal and zane's old army suggested the same. Funny how if you write things out sometimes how calming it can be. To zane and dixie's HEA.

Survival and second chances. Dixie has suffered a number of losses in her life (her parents and her brother) that have left her struggling to conquer her fears, her anxiety and her life. Zane was her brother's best friend and was injured in the same incident that killed her brother. Zane and Dixie came close to being together in the past but fate and life intervened. War has left Zane struggling to find a new normal, fighting against the nightmares and memories. When both are advised to sign up to a pen pal scheme where the public and veterans with similar conditions help and support each other through the power of the written word, both nearly pass up the opportunity.

The emotions that Zane and Dixie go through just roll off the page and hit you hard. Both have suffered tremendous loss that has left them with a lasting impact on their mental health, but both are treated respectfully by the author, with neither one being treated as being better or worse than the other. No judgement, just acceptance. If only the real world was like this. An excellent read that brought the feels and more.

Dixie has suffered a lot of loss in a short period of time, with losing her brother in the military being the most recent, and that's when the anxiety has gotten to be too much. Her therapist suggests that she starts writing to wounded veterans, when she receives a random reply. This is when things start to change. Fate has stepped in, and her pen pal is her brother's best friend Zane Carson. And since this is a shorter book, that is all the details that I'm willing to share. Dear Dixie is an emotional book that shows realistic sides of anxiety/panic attacks & PTSD, which I believe the talented J.L. Baldwin portrayed very well. And as the story progresses, my eyes stopped leaking, as it becomes sweeter, then I start to laugh when it became funny. For a shorter read, I really imprinted on Dixie & Zane, as I felt their pain, which is something that I usually have trouble without a book being full length. Anyway, it's an easy read to finish in one sitting that I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Dear Dixie is a Legacy Falls novella that takes a unique twist on our modern day military romance stories in that much of the story is told through letters. What the letter writers, Dixie and Zane, don’t know is that they have an even deeper connection that they know.
Zane was Dixie’s older brother’s best friend and the love of her young life. But as these things go Zane didn’t return her feelings—she was practically a child so don’t judge him too harshly—and it broke her heart. But the death of Dixie’s parents and then her brother has left even deeper scars than his rejection. Suffering from anxiety and depression, she writes to this unknown soldier.
I liked the premise of Dear Dixie, a lot. I felt the pull of Dixie and the pull of Zane, but I never felt the connection between them. Given their history and their pain, there should have been more and there wasn’t. So while I enjoyed this story, I couldn’t get into it as much as I would have liked.

*This ARC was received in exchange for an honest review*

This is the story of Dixie who after her parents died and then her best friend, her brother Charlie had been killed in action, she is left to grieve alone in the small town of Legacy Falls. While seeing a therapist, she is advised to help her through the grieving process to volunteer to write letters to wounded veterans.

Zane had been best friends with Charlie and he had been wounded while on tour, he agrees to participate in a new program that has been set up, but when he receives a letter from Dixie he has to reply, Zane had been secretly in love with Dixie when they were teenagers but because of Charlie being his best friend and Dixie’s brother he felt he shouldn’t make a move on her. Now he replies to Dixie’s letter, when he gets a response back he is pleasantly surprised as it seems that Dixie had the same feelings for him.

This was a great military romance by J L Baldwin and look forward to seeing what will be next.

Dear Dixie is a great quick read. I was looking for a quick read and this one definitely is that. Dixie has had a rough time. She lost her parents, then her brother. She suffers from anxiety. Zane is Dixie's brother's best friend. Dixie had a crush on him when she was younger and it left her heartbroken. Zane is still grieving the lost of Charlie and feels that it was his fault. Both are broken and hurting. They see each other again after a while. They have chemistry but their in person interaction doesn't go that great. Their letters are great to each other even though they don't they are writing each other. Their letters gave me hope that they would be able to get it together and get their happy ever after together.

Such an emotional roller coaster!

I don't think I have ever cried so much in my life like I have reading this book! Dixie goes through so much loss at such a young age, and for her to have a constant battle of depression and anxiety it amazes me how strong she is. Zane having the same issues, battles it just the same. This story makes you laugh, makes you cry. And does everything in its power to rip your heart out until your a crying blubbering mess. But, in the end it has the best happily ever after!

J.L. Baldwin you most certainly have become one of my top 5 favorite authors!

I absolutely can't wait to read what she has in store next!!

I would say this story also rates higher than a 5 star for me! Its more like a 10!

I love books where the 2 main characters write to one another. I think it is a way to learn not only about the characters, but it brings something more to the story. Both Zane and Dixie have had a rough life. Losing those who they love. Zane has loved Dixie since they were kids, but did not want to cross the unwritten best friend clause about younger sisters.

If you are looking for a book that will warm your heart and remind you why you fell in love with your other half, then this is the book for you! This is a new to me author and I can not wait to read more.

Zane and Dixie

Zane and Dixie were a cute couple. I did feel like the story was a bit rushed towards the end. The quickness was an asset though as the anonymous letters didn't linger on too long and having the characters feel like they were torn between falling in love with the person writing the letters and the person in front of them. Hopefully that was the reason of the quickness. I though the author did really well with explaining their past history which helped moved the first half of the story.

I have never had a book hit me so deeply. From the first chapter Dixie and Zane had me close to tears. The tragedy that each have gone through to how they handle it really hit home. From the outbursts of dealing with PTSD to not knowing how to get through grief. Very well written. I highly recommend this book to everyone.

I really wanted to give this book 5 stars but I just couldn’t. The story was great and I hope that there will be a book about Mel and Drew. There was just some proofreading and story errors I couldn’t overlook. It was a great, quick read and the story drew me in and made it hard to put down. I will definitely be looking for more of J.L.’s books.

Heart-breaking story.

Dixie and Zane's story will surely capture your heart from the first chapter. Their story will make you feel their loss and anxiety, and will give you the hope that you'll need.

I love how this story breaks my heart, make it whole, and give you so much more.

This is my first story from this series and it is obvious that I'm missing a lot.

I Voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book

I think this will be my shortest review ever. But I don't think i can explain to you the way i felt reading this book. This book was heartbreaking.
My friend Nas always says I'm a softie and with this book I did actually cry for everything that Dixie went through. And on some level I could relate to what she went through and that's what made this book so heartbreaking.

My first book by this author and I have to say that I will recommend this book to anyone. Definitely a favorite, couldn't put it down once I started.
