Israel was lost, priests were corrupt and the Israelites seemed to have forgotten about God. God gives the people Samuel the prophet who has been raised in the temple to lead the people back to Him. The leadership of Samuel was enough, but as he got old, the people of Israel demanded they have a kind just like the neighboring tribes. So God gives the people Saul, a tall handsome man from Gibeah, also from the tribe of Benjamin. Saul's leadership was very poor, he ignored God's commands and favored man's commands. This led to God looking for another leader, and he found David. The story goes on to describe the relationship of Saul and David, and David with God. David was very passionate, and the second book of Samuel talks about David's leadership, both good and bad. The book was very interesting to read, especially when they provide the thoughts that Samuel had and what God had thought about the whole situation. Since the book does have some missing parts because it was burnt, it does leave some questions unanswered, that could be because its the things that God only knows. The story also helps understand the grudge that was getting built up while reading the book, but also teaches us morals that can be applied to our lives. The violent killings on both sides, chases, war, lies, and remnants really kept me on my toes, while also soothing the mood with David following God and asking for help every time he was in trouble. I would recommend this book for people who struggle to find a path in their life, and also enjoy thrills, betrayals, and moral lessons.
I have been a seminary student since 2012. I have read and studied the entire Bible. I have been writing Teaching Outlines on the Books of the Bible - 1 Samuel was included in my MDiv. This degree challenged me to write more than the one page per chapter limitation for my MMin and ThM. This degree led to written Teachings of 5-7 pages per chapter. I love every minute I am spending with the Lord - reading, researching, writing, building a deeper relationship with Him. Blessings to all who spend time in the Word - your lives will be enriched because of it.
