There’s more to Princess Cleandra’s obsession with the forest than meets the eye—and soon, her curiosity will uncover dangerous secrets that threaten to destroy her beloved life in the woods.

The Wolf Clan of Brys has waited for over a century to strike at the heart of magic in Elodria. They wait for three events that will turn the tide in their favor:

♦ Midsummer’s Eve, when the forest is most vulnerable
♦ The full moon, when their power is at its fullest
♦ The legendary Forest Queen’s awakening in one of their own

On this fated night, Cleandra will have to decide if she’s ready to give up a life of freedom to defend the forest she loves. Her decision will affect not just her homeland, but the entire world.

It may even save the jaded Prince Amnar, who must step in to take responsibility for his history with Brys. He dreads facing the woman who wrecked his kingdom and his soul, but he soon finds a princess in the forest whose growing power may help him atone for his past.

With Midsummer approaching, Cleandra is running out of time to decide. Mythic power seeps out of the forest, dredging up rumors about the Forest Queen. Will the Green Lady return and protect Elodria? Or will the unguarded Throne be claimed by darker forces?

Jennifer Julander's Green Lady is reminiscent of my favorite fantasy novels with a unique twist all its own. My first impression of budding author Jennifer Julander is, she knows what I want and what has been missing from my life for many years now.

I used to curl up on the couch with a cup of tea and a book from authors such as Tamora Pierce or Tanith Lee. I never noticed when my tea was gone, because by then I'd been swept away to mystical worlds of knights and ladies, magic, and legendary creatures. Theirs were adventure stories with strong female leads, coming of age, and a little romance along the way.

That's what pulled me into this story right from the start. Green Lady follows the self-discovery of teenage princess Cleandra, who learns there is more to her world than meets the eye. Each turn of the page illuminates more intrigue and shrouded mystery. Discoveries are made by Cleandra and the reader alike as alliances are made and shaken, whispers of a forgotten lore seep through the air. I recommend this book to any girl, young or old, who wants to be whisked off to a far away land; any girl who dreams of an adventure of pure fantasy in a new light.

I didn't even realize what my literary life was missing until my eyes were opened to Green Lady, the story's vivid, relatable characters, and juicy landscapes of painted words. Green Lady meets every expectation of my nostalgic teen self, looking to find my place in the world without losing myself in the process. I'll be impatiently waiting for the sequel's release in June, to discover more about my newfound favorite characters (especially the mysterious shapeshifter, Amnar!)

Do you love magic?
Do you enjoy descriptive prose? The Green Lady is meant for readers who enjoy a wonderful amalgamation of the two.
Sheer beauty flows through Jennifer Julander's writing. She paints pictures and images with words. The protective brother, a princess torn between her calling and her family and her love, a beautiful but manipulative witch, and many more characters are described by the author with such beauty, depth, and clarity.
The story is one of good vs evil, made entrancing by the creatures that live in the book. To enter a world of Dryads, Griffins, Halyads, Kelpie i.e. different kinds of nymphs and monsters read the Green Lady. They are straight out of a mystical realm. You might find it a wee bit difficult to keep up.
The world of the Green Lady is one in which all the elements of nature- air, water, fire, and earth meld together to maintain the delicate balance of life.
The author makes you envisage nature as a powerful divinity, one that consists of divergent factors all united in one cause - the survival of Eldoria, the land central to the story, while never losing focus on the overall plot.

Green Lady is one of the best novels I've read in a long time. I absolutely loved Jennifer Julander's fresh take on an well-written topic. Especially her non-traditional personalities of magical creatures and lands. Seahorses that aren't so cute and friendly as one might expect and a "forest" in the desert. A great first work from a new author, I can't wait to see what Jennifer Julander writes next as she is definitely a new favorite.

Green Lady is a wonderful novel about a young woman who discovers her closeness to nature is more than just a passion for the outdoors. Her innate abilities awaken at the same time a dark presence is vying for power. Elemental magic, shapeshifters, hidden magical realms, and a mysterious albino man are a perfect combination in this magical adventure. This story whisked me away to a magical land and dropped me right into an adventure so exciting that I couldn't put the book down. It made me wish I didn't have work the next day; I wished I could stay up late reading by the light of a book lamp like I did when I was young.

The magic world of Green Lady is reminiscent of Tolkien's Middle Earth, CS Lewis's Narnia, JK Rowling's Harry Potter and has an Avatar: The Last Air Bender vibe. It's a perfect read for teenagers exploring fantasy worlds for the first time, and young adults who grew up reading Harry Potter and Hunger Games.

I am in awe with this book. Jennifer drew me into the character's hearts and souls, and once I could actually read it, I couldn't put it down. Had I been aware of the pull it would have on me, I would have read it all the night I got it. Cleandra and Nyume are so similar, and yet so different; I truly enjoyed the contrast. The ending was not necessarily what I expected, but it was satisfying and felt right. I can't wait to read the next one.

Green Lady is a great read for those who love suspense, romance, magic and nature! This book is full of everything that puts a book into my must read category. The writing is in depth, giving such a clear perception of this fictional world, but not so much as to overpower the overall story line. The incorporation of nature and it's importance in the source of life is evident in not only the book's cover, but within all the magical lands and elements I was wisked away to. Green, luscious forests, dark but beautiful seas, dry and dusty deserts, fiery forests!! Every setting in this story made for a beautiful set up in the plot.

And the characters, oh my! It was so easy to fall in love with them. The opposition of their roles was strong and created a classic (but with an original twist) power struggle between good and evil. I also loved that there was more than just one main character to view the story from. Seeing it from every perspective was the best way to get to know each character and learn their thoughts.

The unexpected twists and alliances between characters helped keep me on my toes the whole time. Still a lot of mystery behind some of the characters (Amnar!!!) and I can't wait for the rest of the series.

This book is categorized as "young adult" and that might explain my main complaint with it as young adult a category I left some time ago. The story is told through vignettes, mere flashes sometimes. This works really well at the beginning to bring the reader into the world but for me at least, it becomes a shortcoming thereafter because I want more. I want to know the details, the backstory, the mythos of this world the author has created. There are beautifully crafted sentences with unique and interesting word combinations, but all happens to fast. Actions fly by and I find myself going back to re-read the passage to find the rest of it, almost as if I was so lost with the imagery in my head that I wasn't paying attention to what was happening, what I was reading.

Fortunately, the story expands, the descriptions grow and the mythos starts to flourish as the book goes on. So maybe I'm just impatient? But the passages grow longer, the vignettes stretch out in a more full breath, actions start to become full moments you experience instead of mere flashes you see go by. I can easily say this book gets better as it goes on and we're brought into the story more. And this is where I go back to my complaint about wanting more and I can only assume it is because of the target audience. Well forget young adult, I want to read the adult version. I want to be indulged in detail. Give me the directors cut, the extra hundred or 200 pages that were cut out to fit the short attention span of young adults. As this is the first book by this author, I am looking forward to reading what comes next.

Green Lady - a review by Rosemary Kenny

This well-written epic fantasy is the first [free], book in the series which, [in my freely-given and honest opinion] will strongly appeal not only to lovers of the fantasy genre, but also to anyone who longs for the swords-and-sorcery tales of childhood books about Merlin and Morgana, et al.

The arboreal realm of Elodria is ruled by King Friedrich, who is betrothed to Nymue, a mysterious new arrival in the kingdom.
Friedrich's sister Princess Cleandra, is a tomboy who loves nothing more than to wander in and explore the forests, enjoying the natural atmosphere away from the Court.
When weird happenings increase, the rebel Princess realises she must act to save her brother and the kingdom before it is too late.
Cleandra seeks the help of strange forest-dweller, Amnar and the duo begin a quest that they must win...whatever the cost.

What/who will Cleandra and Amnar encounter in the forest? Who is the Forest Goddess - friend or foe - and who is the eponymous Green Lady? Can Cleandra use her newly-found powers to defeat the evil Brys, who become stronger on Midsummer's Eve in the ghostly light of the full moon? What is Amnar's true identity and is he all that he seems?

These and other questions will keep you guessing right to the - cliffhanger-ending of this enchanting book, [by magical writer Jennifer Julander] - and beyond!

This book surprised me. It made me wonder where it was going to go next. Jennifer did a great job of slowly introducing backstory at just the right time. There were no long boring history lessons just explanations of why things were happening or why characters were doing certain things. My only complaint would be that there were questions left unanswered and story lines that didn't resolve. It is a series and therefore the reader is compelled to continue reading into the next book. I have a personal preference for book series with more resolution in each book, it feels more satisfying to me. But that is just me. Overall I think it is a solid story with compelling characters and character arcs.

Beautifully written and well-crafted! This book made me want to go spend the day in the woods! I'd recommend this book to anyone who enjoys King Arthur, Narnia or Lord of the Rings. Green Lady features powerful female leads who are strong, but also vulnerable and relatable. A compelling and enjoyable read from start to finish!

A Magical Read!

I so enjoyed this book! The settings, the well developed characters and the magic. I normally read more contemporary novels so this was a refreshing change of pace. I loved the way the author's writing allowed me to "see" the scenes. Loved this book! I highly recommend it and am anxious to read the next one in the series!

It has been so refreshing to get lost in a book again, and green lady has done that for me. With school and a 5 month old, it is nice to remember to take time for myself and enjoy a tale full of adventure and fantasy. HIghly recommended.
