When new alpha Aaron accidentally mate-bonds Hunter, an innocent human, he's so horrified by what he's done that he offers to have the bond broken. They strike a deal -- Hunter needs fast cash to get an old enemy off his back and Aaron needs a mate by his side for the North Western wolf shifter Grand Council. Convincing a festival's worth of werewolves that they really are a couple won't be easy, but Hunter's chequered past gives him an edge when it comes to pulling off this kind of scam.
But the more they pretend, the harder it becomes to distinguish their lies from the truth, and both human and werewolf have to make the choice to break the bond or complete it, forever.
3.6 stars It was quite a nice and cute story; I just wish it was longer. Some parts really needed to be fill so you get a more solid romance. But I enjoyed it and it may be the first time that I want to read the story of a female character while reading mm!
This one was just 'meh' for me. I do usually enjoy a shifter story once in a while. Even though this trope of "accidentally mated" and/or "let's pretend the claim is real" is done A LOT, I still picked this one up. It was a short read, which is a good thing when I'm not looking for a uber-long book. The story had enough potential to put a different "twist" on the cliched trope with the whole 'let's fool the council' thing, but I never felt myself become fully engaged with the story or characters if I'm honest. I think there were too things that really rubbed me the wrong way here. The author's use of "big words" being one of them. Now, I have a degree in journalism so I'm familiar with words, big and small. The feeling I got here was that the author was trying way too hard to impress by throwing words that felt so wrong and unnatural into her writing. The story, for me anyway, lost some of the authenticity of any character building at that point. But, maybe that's just me. And the other thing that bugged me was Hunter's constant use of the word werewolf/ves after being told by a pack elder that they were shifters NOT weres and that it was sort of insulting to them. Hunter's character was continuously using that hated term throughout the story and honestly it just made him come off as ignorant and rude. It wasn't funny at all, if that was what the author was going for. Anyway, this was a new to me author and I don't think I'll be picking up any of her other works in the future. I just don't like the vibe I get from her.
Really cute UST and Pining with a happy ending. It was a very nice book to read during a stressful point in my life. The two MCs were lovely and sweet.
***After reading it on 14 Augustus 2017*** That was actually way better than I expected. Very cute story with some banter.
***Added this on 25 July 2017 to my TO READ list*** Reasons I want to read this: 1. The cover. 2. Werewolves. 3. mating bite. 4. Must-be-together-because-reasons trope.
I have no shame. I also have an inkling I will be disappointed...
