The Soldier's Secret Child was cute. I don't read a lot of the contemporary Love Inspired novels (I usually stick to the suspense and historical ones), but I'm thinking I might read more as I really enjoyed this one. I did feel like certain things seemed rushed and it felt like something that was a REALLY BIG DEAL for the heroine for most of the story, seemed to not even get truly discussed in the end. Besides that, I enjoyed it. I loved the matchmaking/scheming grandma. :)

This was a sweet story that dealt with some difficult topics. I liked both Lacey and Vito as main characters, it was obvious they were good for each other and it just took them a while to admit it. I felt that a certain part, what made Lacey hesitant to get with anyone again, was glossed over in the ending...unless I missed something. Regardless, I still enjoyed reading this book and am glad I read it.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. I was asked to give my honest opinion of the book - which I have done.

A touching story about trust, loyalty, betrayal, forgiveness, family, and love. The story takes the reader on a deeply emotional journey where honesty and integrity hit the crossroads with promises made and trustworthiness is tested.
Vito D'Angelo is in a tough spot. He made a promise to his dying friend, and that promise is about to compromise his own future, his own dreams, desires, and hopes. Vito's integrity, kindness, and caring heart make him an excellent hero, his dilemma with the promises made and where his loyalties lay are understandable and reasonable.
Lacey McPherson has put her deceased husband into a high podium where he really doesn't belong. Time has golden her memories of the marriage and mourning for him has become a part of her life. Lacey is a caring, loving, and kind woman. Her complicated feelings towards Vito and her misleading images of the past are coloring the present causing conflicts for her and the future possibilities family and a relationship with Vito.
The Soldier's Secret Child is a compelling story with charming, likable characters. The meddling community is entertaining, the interactions between the characters realistic and sensible. The emotions are high, the incidents are life-like, and the strong faith in God that the protagonist declares is the guiding light in their lives.

Lee Tobin McClain, thank you for letting me read and review this book. I'm really sorry it took me so long but I was injured and in a lot of pain when I request to read this.
I hope you can forgive me!!
I really enjoyed it! I do like the Love Inspired series. especially the Amish and Historical ones.
This story was enjoyable because it was a little different than what I'm used to reading.
I don't condone what happened in the story plot but I did enjoy young Charlie. I loved his energy while wishing I had some for myself.
I think mine went by the wayside lol!!
I admired Vito a lot!! And Lacey too!!
Lacey especially since she's the one who was tested in life.
Yes, life sometimes deals bad blows but we can either buck up and accept them with God's help or refuse to help ourselves and mumble about it through Satan's help.
I loved Nonna the best because of her wisdom and the ability to see through ppl. Sometimes it's the older folks who can help us get through our problems if we listen closely!!
And sometimes too, it helps to have friends to talk to or other ppl as well!!
I received this complementary copy from the author and in no way required to review this book

The Soldier's Secret Child is a lovely contemporary romance. This was the first Rescue River book I've read, but I wasn't lost at all. It can stand alone just fine.

Vito's such a wonderful leading man. He's extremely loyal and just an all-around good guy. Lacey's a caring and sweet lady who's had a tough time since the death of her husband. They've been friends since they were young and are so good for each other, but the secret Vito's hiding from Lacey threatens to shatter her world. My heart ached for Charlie and what he had to endure in the past. Nonna was my favorite character; I adored her. Charlie and Nonna's budding friendship was very sweet and a bright spot in this story.

The Soldier's Secret Child felt very authentic, like I was getting a glimpse into the lives of actual people. I was completely charmed by the town of Rescue River and it's inhabitants. I can't wait to visit again! I'm definitely going to be checking out the previous books!

I received a copy of this book from the author. All thoughts and comments are my own honest opinion.

Lee Tobin McClain's latest novel is so sweet. Again, it's all about the premise. In The Soldier's Secret Child, Vito arrives back in his hometown with his foster son, anticipating that he can easily stay away from childhood friend Lacey. Easier said than done as he very quickly discovers that Nonna is living with Lacey because of some health problems and has therefore rented out his childhood home. With nowhere to stay, it quickly becomes obvious that Vito and Charlie should stay in Lacey's guest house with Nonna, except living on Lacey's property is the exact opposite of Vito's plan. The main character's were three-dimensional, they had real issues to overcome that forced them to continue to peel the ugly layers back. I loved how well-thought out Nonna's character was. I adored Charlie and liked that he was a confused kid and at times acted out. The Soldier's Secret Child was an enjoyable read, grab your copy of today!

What a book to review! This was one of the toughest books I have had to review in some times. Not because it was bad, because it was so wonderful in so many ways. All the through this story, my heart clenched and my mind was so totally wrapped up in what was happening that everything around me stop existing. A story of life, love, betrayal, renewal, and new love. A story of family, choices and children and how they can heal your heart. I must say this is one of the best contemporary books I have read in a long time. And though I am not a fan of contemporary , this is number two this month that makes me put the contemporary romance back on my wish lists to read. I can say be ready for an emotional , heart twisting read. One that will delight, engage and keep you wanting more. I was given this book in return for an honest review. Anna Swedenmom

This is a great contemporary romance. Full of twist and turns, hurt, friendship, betrayal, love, family, forgiveness and so much more. This is in the Rescue River series yet is a stand alone book.

I loved the way the author allows you to feel both Vito D'Angelo and Lacey McPherson feelings and thoughts.

Vito is only trying to keep a promise to a dying friend, yet it may be the only thing that can actually keep him from finding true happiness.

Lacey is a strong, fun widow trying to help out anyway she can. When her childhood friend comes to town and needs a place to stay she opens her home but will she also open her heart?

I fell in love with many of the characters in Rescue River and look forward to reading more from this series.

This is one of those authors that I always looks forward to her next book, and she didn't disappoint with this one. It is a wonderful combination of romance, faith, family secrets and a touch of suspense that had me pulled in from the first pages. I loved the characters, especially Charlie, and thoroughly enjoyed following Lacey and Vito's relationship develop as they tried to overcome the hurts of the past and find a second chance at love. It's also a beautiful story of God's love and forgiveness. I was given a copy of this book by the author, but a positive review was not required. The opinions expressed are my own, and it is one that I definitely recommend to the reader that enjoys a good Christian romance.

Lacey has been struggling after losing Gerry. When Vito shows up at her house with Charlie, her life will change. Nonna is a amazing woman you will love her little tricks she pulls through out this book. Watching Lacey and Vito try to fight their feelings will have you on the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens next. You will feel God working throughout this whole story. You won't be able to stop reading this book. This book deserves a higher rating than a five star review. I had the honor to review this book for the author for a honest review. The review is my honest thoughts and reaction to this book.

Widow Lacey McPherson is doing everything she can to get over the loss of her husband. In the process of renovating her home into a guest house, she takes in Nonna D'Angelo. Nonna's grandson, Vito, introduced Lacey to her husband but started out as one of her best childhood friends. When Vito returns to town with an 8-year-old foster son in tow and needing a place to stay, Nonna asks Lacey to open her home to them as well. As Lacey and Vito get to know each other again, can they find their way past the secrets they are each keeping to the love that is storming the gates of their hearts?

Vito is caught between a promise he made, a vulnerable child and the woman he's growing to love. The scars on his face and body will be nothing compared to the scars Lacey could inflict on his heart. Can telling his secret open doors with Lacey or will she slam them shut?

This story will have you rooting for Vito and Lacey. I definitely recommend it!

Oh my goodness, what a great story. Well written with very strong Christian characters. It is never a good idea to keep secrets for whatever reason and Vito finds out the hard way. His and Lacey's story will keep you tightly in its grip until the very end. I absolutely highly recommend it!!!!!

Tension and suspense fuel the story of Lacey and Vito's romance.
My favorite quote of the book is,"Our Heavenly Father forgives our mistakes and leads us to be new creations in Christ.
He can even soften a heart of stone."
I loved the romance, the characters, especially Charlie and the chance to revisit Rescue River
I recommend this book to those who love Christian romance.
A paperback was given to me by the author. My opinions are 100% my own

The Soldier's Secret Child a Rescue River series by Lee Tobin McClain. A soldier with scared face and chest returns to his home town. With a foster 8 year old boy that he told a fellow soldier he would help take care of if his mother couldn't take care of him. The boy's soldier father was unfaithful to his wife and the boy was another woman son. The scared soldier had loved the other soldiers wife before they were married. Past history has to be dealt with. A good read.

This was the first Rescue River novel that I read but I did not get lost so it can stand alone in my opinion. I don't remember reading this author before but I don't normally read many what I label Christine books. I found it to be a heartwarming story of struggle, friendship, honesty, and love.

The characters were likable and loveable. The struggles they were going through were deeper than most real-life people I know but believable. Predictable happy ending.

An overall sweet story of love overcoming obstacles. As with some of the love inspired books it did seem to be rushed at times but there were definitely great points that helped it overcome some of the rushed feeling.

I really liked this book. I loved the characters and the story. Carlo wanted to step up and be a father to the daughter his late ex-wife never told him about, but he doesn’t want to hurt Fern, who is in the process of adopting her. How are they going to be able to work things out?

Lots of secrets that cause misunderstandings. Enjoyable but I didn't know it was a Christian/inspirational romance. That detracted from the story for me.
