The author of over 80 books in a little over a decade of writing, Dan Gutman has written on topics from computers to baseball. Beginning his freelance career as a nonfiction author dealing mostly with sports for adults and young readers, Gutman has concentrated on juvenile fiction since 1995. His most popular titles include the time-travel sports book Honus and Me and its sequels, and a clutch of baseball books, including The Green Monster from Left Field. From hopeful and very youthful presidential candidates to stunt men, nothing is off limits in Gutman's fertile imagination. As he noted on his author Web site, since writing his first novel, They Came from Centerfield, in 1994, he has been hooked on fiction. "It was fun to write, kids loved it, and I discovered how incredibly rewarding it is to take a blank page and turn it into a WORLD."
Gutman was born in New York City in 1955, but moved to Newark, New Jersey the following year and spent his youth there.

This book reminds me that I need to be more aware of what books are in my classroom. There were some funny parts to the book but the overall way that the adults behave is disturbing. Granted this is the way that many adult behave towards one another but it was put in such a light that the children would be led to believe that it is okay and even humorous to treat others this way.
1) Uranus is definitely an understandable joke, but in my experience, most kids AJ's age don't know what an anus is. I find it unrealistic that kids as young as kindergarteners were laughing at it given the scientific word vs. something like 'butt'.
2) Was there really a need to bring beauty pageants into this??? Women are not objects, and teaching little kids that they are is not good for our future.
3) Why was there not a single father interested in their child's education? It is clearly stated that only mothers came to the play. Well, I resent the idea that a father would not show up. Many fathers do show up to these things even if some have to be forced by the mother.
4) I know Pluto is not a planet anymore *grumble grumble*, but it is still a recognized dwarf planet and part of the Solar System. It might have been good to have one of the kids be Pluto.
5) The whole teachers behaving badly. I'll just leave it at that.
On the plus side: lots of information about astronomy and the end of Earth scene was funny.
Miss Tracy Is Spacey! by Dan Gutman is a book about a very weird school. The main character is A.J. but an annoying girl calls him Arlo. An old lady, Miss Tracy, comes to their school acting like Miss Universe, and she gets in a fight with Mr. Cooper, their teacher. That night they all went to the top of their school. Surprisingly the class's old teacher came back to Earth from space, because he forgot his keys. Though the keys were just in his pocket, so he left again. A couple of days later they have to do a play; each student is a different planet and they have to tell the audience about the planet they are. Everyone laughs at A.J. because he is Uranus, but he sings a song about it and becomes the star of the show. The real Miss Universe comes out then, and Miss. Tracy gives A.J. a crown and a sash that says, "Mr. Universe." This book is funny because all the dads were at the school when they saw Miss Universe going to their kids' school. But when only Miss Tracey showed up they all ran out of the classroom as quickly as they could. There's a ton more reasons that the book was funny. I rate this book 4 stars. It is a great book to read and laugh about. It is only just a little too weird at times. I would recommend this book to people that are looking for a great, funny book or likes this series.
I liked that AJ's class had a play about planets and that he was Uranus. I didn't really like that people in his class were teasing him. But then I liked that AJ won the best planet. Even though the kids were teasing him about Uranus, he still won.
