Lilik’s gutterborn resistance flattened their oppressors and freed the city, enabling a return to the island volcano, Ioene. But in the hours following Lilik’s victory, a bid to rescue her family from Ulstat clutches led to her capture.

Now, cut off from her soul magic and held hostage by the Ulstats, Lilik plots to overturn the situation. She’ll destroy House Ulstat from within, helping herself to the ships and soldiers she needs to retake Ioene. But other forces are in play. In a hideout deep in an abandoned mine, a bandit queen lives amongst mounds of treasure, sharpening her daggers. In the mystical aether pervading the Ulstat’s home island, spirits of the dead wage an epic battle to free Lilik’s magic. And within House Ulstat, allies emerge from the shadows…if Lilik can figure out who to trust.

Another beautiful heart in ones mouth kind of book. Lilek is captured by the father of Mieshk, the prime trader of Ulstat and with her he captured her father and her young brother, Raav and Nyralit and they are taken to Araok island, home to the Ulstats. They are kept in line due to the fact that her father and brother were taken away and imprisoned in a cellar and only got to eat or drink according to the way Lilik behaved towards the Prime. However she started to plot how to save her family and escape the island but even though she did her best things turned out not to be in her favour and she did not know who to trust in the end. She is also cut off from her magic and often found herself without her dagger and friend Tyrak who she has started to depend on for courage , strength and agility. A book with losses and sadness and one which ends on yet another cliffhanger keeping us eager to read book 4 and maybe see some things turning in Lilik's favour for a change!!

I have been making my way through the series and will finish it to see how everything wraps up, but to be honest, Lilik is getting on my nerves... she doesn't seem to learn from her mistakes but some how gets out of each scenario in which she finds herself.

Just gets better and better!

Spirits, magical powers, evil Traders, insanity, undying love, and smugglers and sailors are bound together to stop a cataclysm and save the lives of family, friends and lovers. Can't wait for the final chapters.

I liked the book and the story line, but I hated how they kept getting captured through the series. It was truly frustrating and I almost put the series down several times.

Personally I don't think we needed this book, because I was waiting for her to go back to the island with the volcano and this book was not needed or it was cut too short.

Another great book in this series. Each book from 1-3 is action packed and full of twists that keep you gripped. The writing is smooth and for lack of another word-comfortable. The world is vivid and characters became know to me. I love that the main character is a strong woman but allowed some doubt and ability to make mistakes. I can't wait to read more in this series.
