Danice Allen is the author of twenty-two romance novels, writing under her own name for Avon and Berkley, and as Emily Dalton for Harlequin Regency and Harlequin American. One of her contemporary novels, WAKE ME WITH A KISS, was named Best Harlequin American of the Year by Romantic Times magazine. Her novels have been sold around the world and translated into many languages, including Chinese.
Danice enjoys researching her novels almost as much as writing them, especially when the research includes travel. She has traveled extensively in the United States and spent some memorable times in Great Britain and Europe exploring castles and countryside.
Danice lives in Utah, but is an avid Anglophile and lover of British literature and history. At the same time, she immensely enjoys stories based in small-town Americana, both to read and write. This shared love for the "old" country and the "new" country made sense to her when her ancestry DNA test revealed that she is very, very British, and that her ancestors came to America with the earliest settlers.
Danice is married and has two sons, one of whom lives in Los Angeles and writes for television. Her other son lives close by with his wife and two children, which makes for many fun family gatherings.
Danice loves to read, travel, do in-depth family history research, walk and shop.
I read this a while ago. Goodreads must have lost my review 😢 I remember enjoying this slow burn romance
Oh, I found an old review 3/27/20.: This was a cute, fast-paced read! I liked all the characters. Amanda took a while, though. She was a very annoying prig at first. Jack was charming from the beginning 🥰. There was the H hurt, so they were stranded at a hotel together trope.
The secondary characters were great as well.
I can't wait to read Sam's story. I give this book 4 stars for a good, light read!
Sidenote: I kind of want to reread this book now!

Danice Allen is a modern day Jane Austen. She's got the revered renaissance chick-lit author's style with just the right amount of rogue and daring added, making it more enjoyable to read about that very prim and proper period in history.
It couldn't be helped to be noticed though, that the author's modern notions on relationships very much influenced her writing. The behavior of Amanda, the lead female character, may be too forward for the period setting, but then as I mentioned, it added a fresh air of difference to the story.
The story is not quite finished yet, as far as Sam is concerned. She was at the beginning, center, and ending of the tale, but her fate have yet to be determined. There is a sequel to the book, and I've already purchased it even before I started this review.
So glad they decided to publish the kindle version of this book. I never would have found it any other way! A well written plot made it an amazing read. I simply could not put it down! It was fast paced and entertaining and the characters were loveable.
I found myself smiling whenever the banter between Amanda and Jack would begin. He would torment and tease her uncontrollably to the point where I felt sorry for her (but in a good way). Amanda's wicked and wanton thoughts only made the read more exciting! From family drama to amnesia to betrayal, Allen did not fail to deliver. She even made me like Nan and Prissy a lot! How I wish I had aunts like them :-) Oh, and how can one forget Julian! Even if I didn't know that there was a sequel to this book, while reading, I would have figured it out. There's no way Allen wasn't going to write a whole book on him!
Sam, well, I suppose it'll take time for the little brat to change. Poor thing was left to be raised by a drunk who only cared about herself. Sam's story needs to be told too. No one actually knows how much the poor thing suffered alone on the island. I'm hoping to find the answers in the sequel.
Feigned amnesia or not, this book is totally an unforgettable affair :-)
Great historical romance. A real fun read. Had romance, amnesia, mystery, and many twists and turns. I hated to put it down to sleep or do things around the house. I would recommend to anyone who likes a light, fun, enjoyable historical romance set in England. I've read this book a few times now. It is one of my most favorite historical romance retreads. I enjoy it more each and every time I retread it. I highly recommend this book.
Loved this romance! The characters were lovable, frustrating, sweet, sneaky, despicable, shy, you know - perfect for a romance! A couple of twists, a turn or two and a good cozy read!
A well told historical romance that incorporates all of the elements required of a good story telling. You can not fail to like the heroine who is brilliant, kind and funny. The hero fills all of the blocks required of her unexpected love. He is a war veteran, handsome, and a man of honor. So what could possibly go wrong? For the answer you will have to read this engaging love story.
I have rated this book 4 stars.
I obtained this book from Amazon in Kindle format. Thank you Frank for your review
Even with some modern words/phrases,situations that wouldn't have happened during regency period, this was enjoyable. Really liked the main/secondary characters, would recommend.
Enjoyable romance. At first i wasn't sure about the dialogue for the era but those thoughts were soon forgotten as I quickly sunk into the story. Lots of excitement and banter between characters. I liked how the second books main characters were placed in this story and I'm looking forward to the second book and Sam's story. Only perplexity for me were the dogs, dogs are generally a reflection of their owners and to me these two dogs didn't fit into the story. Overall an enjoyable read with really nice characters, I'd recommend to any romance addict.

really like this book, the twists and turns...can't beat a rocky love story, Amanda is so suppressed she t hui inks at 23 she's an old maid and will never marry, when she receives a letter from her late father's lawyers with news that shocks her to the core and makes her question everything about Her parents, she heads away on a rescue mission but co.especially across trouble along the way
I found the story slow and tedious. There was a good deal of speech that wasn't period appropriate and a lot of sex. Amanda didn't always do the typical things a woman her age would do, thus providing some humor, but that was the only thing I found really appealing.
Romance and period drama are not really the choices I would make in a book. I read this as I got it free of charge on my Kindle. An easy enough read but I found it all rather predictable but if period drama/romance is your thing then I'm sure you would enjoy it
I thought the main female character, Amanda, was a little too forward in places and maybe not in keeping with her staid upbringing. Overall though the story held my interest and I looked forward to reading on and seeing where the story went.
This was a good read. Kept you wanting to find out what was going to happen next with Amanda & Jack. Setting was in England in late 1800's. Lot of twist and turns.
A bit of a different spin on this recency romance. Some intrigue mixed in with excitement, humor, and romance. I will be looking into more by this author.
