Christianity begins with God and ends with God. It is a story for all to know and understand.
In this personal and easy-to-read book, James Sire offers a basic introduction to the foundational truths held by Christians at all times and in all places. The chapters are organized around a simple scheme: creation, fall, redemption, new life in Christ, and glorification. In this expanded edition, Sire added a chapter on the person of Jesus.
With study questions for personal or group use, this is the ideal first book for seekers and believers who want to understand the central teachings of the Bible.
James W. Sire was a Christian author, speaker, and former editor for InterVarsity Press.
Sire was an officer in the Army, a college professor of English literature, philosophy and theology, the chief editor of InterVarsity Press, a lecturer at over two hundred universities around the world and the author of twenty books on literature, philosophy and the Christian faith. His book The Universe Next Door, published in 1976 has sold over 350,000 copies. He held a B.A. in chemistry and English from the University of Nebraska, an M.A. in English from Washington State and a Ph.D. in English from the University of Missouri.
It's a great piece of literature, however it's best used for a Bible study. You will need a Bible (book or app) to study up to get the full effect that Sire is trying to make. It's wonderful, but could also be rearranged in chapters to help. I wouldn't read this alone for newer Christians. It's wonderful and gets the point across to help understanding faith, but I highly recommend you read with an elder to ask questions if the reflections don't make sense. I'll even go back and read it again simply to read more into the questions/reflections.
