Actually the first chapters that explain about tribal/patriarchal and it development into city/kingly societies are most helpful to understand the function of the king and his relationship with God and the people in OT times, and the usage of the Psalms.

His last two chapters wrapping up the whole series is most interesting and useful as well.

I personally still don't agree with the idea of OT history is just a "edifying story" in an allegorical/parabolical sense. However some very good points are made through this trilogy and particularly this last book.

Very scholarly and informative Eastern Orthodox introduction to the Psalms and Wisdom books of the old Testament. He mostly divides the book in two between the Psalms and Wisdom writing. As this book is the concluding and third volume of his three volume introduction to the Old Testament the final section is on the place of the Old Testament in the Orthodox Church. Good for clergy and serious layman.
