Another amazing Image debut, and hopefully one whose following issues stand up to the debut. Much of the early parts of this comic is told wordlessly, as a spacecraft seemingly made out of parts from a junkyard lands on a planet. We follow the pilot of this craft as he/she/it traverses the world looking for a settlement, we quickly learn. What happens next I dare not say, except that it's all exceptionally told and thematically deep. Ken Garing wonders what it is that causes civilizations to become evil, and the places he goes with this idea are intriguing.

Along with writing the story, Garing also draws and letters it, and in all three aspects he does a fantastic job. The art has an almost surreal quality, filled with beings of all sorts of shapes, sizes, and colors. And yet there is plenty to ground it in reality. The colors are mostly drab, perhaps due to a distant sun, perhaps reflecting a post-apocalyptic world, and the variety of colors stands apart in this drabness. This could turn out to be one heck of a sci-fi series.

Fine, but feels too much like prologue. Obviously, that's kind of the point, but this kind of sci-fi is everywhere and this didn't feel unique enough for me to keep going.
