Superman has a canine sidekick, Krypto. This story tells how Krypto came into Superman's life. Fun and colorful. Good for young readers who like Superman stories.

My husband has started collecting these gems for our son - you can never start them too early! This tells the origin story of Krypto - Superman's trusty four legged companion. It's impossible to give my critique without explaining the whole plot, so read ahead at your peril: Apparently, Krypto was Superman's childhood dog on Krypton before it exploded. Superman's parents knew the explosion was imminent so they built a spaceship and sent Krypto off into the unknown to test if he could survive...but the explosion was coming sooner than they thought so they quickly built another spaceship to send off Superman too! Superman, we all know, ended up on Earth but Krypto got a little lost first before he made it ;-) But of course they found each other again in the end! Our main problem with this story was that they sacrificed the family dog! Planet about to explode? Need to discover a safe alternative? Good luck, Krypto! How was he supposed to report back anyway? How was he supposed to fly a spaceship by himself? And why can't they build bigger spaceships to hold more people??

These kids' books about superhero pets are pretty good. In this one, we find out Superman's parents sent their dog away from their planet on a spaceship. Fun story and pictures.

For me, the Silver Age of Comics is the sweet spot. It was fun introducing my son to Krypto and the other forgotten characters in this series. As usual the art was bright and interesting and the story was a lot of fun.
