After squashing Poison Ivy's plans to pilfer the patrons of a Gotham City gala, Batman and Robin puzzle over her foiled plot. Why would Ivy target a fundraiser for Robinson Park-the city's largest green space? All signs point toward the vine-loving villain's desire to let her fiendish foliage flourish freely-especially when a ferocious forest suddenly arises in Robinson Park. Now the Dynamic Duo must dash into the weird and wild woods to face Poison Ivy's rainforest revenge.
I set myself up for failure with this one. What did I expect from a book with the old school art on the cover? I HOPED we'd get to see an evolved Ivy, one with more substance than she is usually given. We did not get that.
While there was a few positive notes in regard to Ivy - Batman made it clear that it wasn't her fault she became the way she is now, as well as protecting plants is a good thing - the rest of her was a mess. Her motivation was weak and her reactions were a throwback to the days when her entire character was a pouty, mad woman that needed Batman to take care of her, for she didn't know what was best for herself. Honestly, I had hoped we would never see that Ivy again, with all the growing she got to do in comics a few years ago, but I guess I was wrong (but not surprised). And on characters, both Batman/Bruce and Robin/Tim were pretty flat rags as well, so I'm not impresses.
The writing was choppy and repetative, and there were so many logical holes and technical randomness that I almost threw the book across the room. I see now that it was most likely written for a younger audience - in which case I think the portail of Ivy is even worse - but it was marketed as an adult read. At least it wasn't long.
And on a personal note: I WAS ABLE TO READ A PHYSICAL BOOK. THE FIRST ONE IN MONTHS. The large writing probably helped a lot ^^'
At the grand opening of the newly remodeled city’s conservation, Robin discovers Poison Ivy’s unusual plan to rob all the wealthy guests. But that’s only the beginning of her plans. In order to stop her, Batman and Robin have to travel deep into her lair.
Footnote: 1) I didn’t know Robin had another name. Though he doesn’t seem like a Tim to me.
