The Trojan War has ended after ten long years, and Odysseus, the shrewd general of Ithaca, is on the road back to his homeland. He craves nothing more than to embrace Penelope, his wife, and Telemachus, his son. But his actions in the War will earn him the rancor of the mighty ocean god Poseidon, who will force him to roam the sea and face the most incredible challenges. Can the brave hero, with his unparalleled audacity, evade the fury of the Cyclops Polyphemus, the tempting song of the Sirens and the spells of Circe to return home?

The Long Journey Home - Abridged

Honestly I was a little surprised by the size of the book when I first looked at it considering it is a comic interpretation of the Odyssey as written by Homer. Considering the questions and tidbits of information in the back I can honestly say this book is aimed more at young readers even though there are scenes of violence (as one can imagine facing man eating monsters and hopeful usurpers of your kingdom) so before getting this for your youngsters be sure to check out the book for yourself to judge if they are to young to be exposed to these myths.

With that said I am also going to point out this story the comic is based on is super old so don't gripe about spoilers. Heck you basically know what is going to happen just from the description of book itself. Although seriously simplified I found the story still had the feel of the original tale although a bit fast paced at times (no explanation about shooting through the axes with an arrow for example even if it still happens to prove who Odysseus is.) One thing I am glad they did not remove was the scene with Polyphemus and how he is tricked to believe Odysseus's name was Nobody but considering it was the troubles with Polyphemus that were responsible for much of the issues with Odysseus getting home I guess it would have been an awkward narrative if they cut it out. :)

I thought I was going to like this story, but I didn’t. Where does the Trojan horse come in?? Wasn’t mentioned in the Iliad and nothing here in the Odyssey. There was def more action in this book but felt really flat. I’m more inclined to read the original story for this one, since there were a lot of various monsters that Odysseus had to fight, but I’m not chomping at the bit to do so.

The Trojan war of ten years is finally over, and Odysseus is trying get get back home, but the wrath of the gods has hindered his quest, and it will take him another decade to arrive back home to his long suffering wife Penelope, and seek revenge on his enemies. This graphic novel does justice to the original story by Homer, keeping the meat of the tale intact.

Can't recommend this book enough! My children love and re-read it over and over again. It's great on its own as a classic adventure story, but also great to add awareness of Greco-Roman mythology and history.
It's sheerly delightful! My son started to love it age four so don't think it's only for older children :)

I know the original script from Homero. I'm very excited to review the approach made by Diego Agrimbau on this graphic novel. Although it is fictitious historic, the original work provides a series of details about the life of that time very well.

Read this one with my newcomer students. Love The Odyssey, however, this version wasn’t great. I had to correct details and explain some important stuff that was left out. But it did do the job for my students that don’t speak English

Graphic novel version of the story of the Odyssey. Nice and quick to read, explaining who's who in the story, hitting the high points. Good for someone who wants a refresher about the story line.

Read with my son Alex (9) who loves an epic.
Nice pics, runs through things a bit sketchily, but a perfect book to help get lads reading.

3.5 stars. I've never read the Odyssey before so I figured a graphic novel would be nice. There were some parts I didnt understand but I liked it overall!

Hilarious illustrations that were worth the third star. Not the best retelling but makes Homer accessible to children.
