Between Two Worlds: Lessons from the Other Side

Rate this book
From Tyler Henry, a twenty-year-old clairvoyant and star of E!’s hit reality series Hollywood Medium with Tyler Henry, comes Between Two Worlds, a memoir about his journey as a medium thus far.

“Dying doesn’t mean having to say goodbye.”

Tyler Henry discovered his gift for communicating with the departed when he was just ten years old. After experiencing a sudden, accurate premonition of his grandmother’s death—what Tyler would later describe as his first experience of “knowingness”—life would never be the same. Now in his twenties, Tyler is a renowned, practicing medium, star of the smash hit E! reality show, Hollywood Medium with Tyler Henry, and go-to clairvoyant of celebrities, VIP’s, and those simply looking for closure and healing. He has worked with some of Hollywood’s biggest names including Khloe Kardashian, Amber Rose, Margaret Cho, Jaime Pressly, and Monica Potter.

Despite struggling to accept his rare talent, Tyler grew to embrace it, and finally found the courage to share it with—and ultimately change—the world. For the first time, Tyler pulls back the curtain on living life as a medium in his first memoir, in which he fearlessly opens up about discovering his gift as an adolescent, what it’s truly like to communicate with those who have passed, the power of symbolism in his readings, and the lessons we can learn from our departed loved ones. With unparalleled honesty, Tyler discusses how his complex and fascinating gift has changed his perception of the afterlife, and more importantly, how readings can impact our relationships with our closest friends and family once they’re gone.

Tyler Henry (born January 13, 1996) is a teen clairvoyant medium originally from central California. Born with a unique gift, Tyler has helped countless people acquire closure, comfort, and proof that consciousness transcends physical death. Working as an evidential-based medium, his ability to provide specific, detail-oriented specifics has allowed him to share what he sees with medical professionals and missing person cases.

As Tyler’s grandmother was terminally ill with cancer in April of 2006, he began having strong intuitive hunches that would later turn into a series of profound visions that proved to be true. After a series of life changing events (including a near death experience), Tyler’s passion, calling, and life purpose has been to bring clarity, closure, and evidence to those he is privileged to read.

Tyler is known for his rational, comforting, and tactful presentation of the information he receives. This mentality has allowed him to provide a down-to-earth understanding with messages of hope, closure, and forgiveness. With clientele both nationally and internationally, Tyler has been blessed to work with a vast array of people from all walks of life. More than anything, Tyler’s goal has always been to aid in the grief process and provide validation and closure to everyone he’s able to, through his one-on-one readings, group events, lectures, and workshops all across the map.

I am one of those people who has a completely open mind when it comes to the afterlife, and I do watch this author, Tyler Henry, as often as I can on his program. He not only comes across as a genuinely loving and caring person on the screen, that is exactly how he is in real life.

This young man wrote an extremely interesting book highlighting his early life when his powers began to manifest themselves, through a nearly fatal brain issue of his own while a teenager, and on through the present day where he is one of the most sought after, if not THE most sought after, genuine mediums.

The book not only gives specific details on some of his readings that shocked even him, it also has a portion in the back where he answers the most frequent questions that he gets, which happens to include one of my own regarding pets on the other side.

I highly recommend this book to the believers and the skeptics alike. I guarantee this young man is the real deal.

By accident I had started this book instead of another one by Tyler Henry.
This book is about his life. I've read many books similar to these.

A life well lived is not defined by death.

I've listened & read many books on the subject of life after death and communicating with the other side and I must say this one is one of my favorites. His message and stories truly resonate within.

I was very impressed with the narration that Tyler performed during the reading of the book. It felt more like you were sitting with him having a conversation versus listening to a produced version of the book.

He gives a very refreshing view on the afterlife and many components that we all wonder about... a few of my favorites being reincarnation and your pets being able to communicate with you from the other side.

This is absolutely I would recommend to those friends who have an open mind about the afterlife.

Tyler Henry, when can I make an appointment?! Lol

I’ve watched a few Tyler Henry shows. This was interesting and insightful. When it comes to mediums and near-death experiences, I tend to lean towards caution and skepticism. Yet regardless of what one’s beliefs are, his overall message is a wonderful one. I especially love his humility, kindness, and courtesy.

Here are some of my favorite quotes:

Actions and Intentions
“The insight we gain upon death—how our actions affect others—is something we can and should strive to understand while we’re still here. The saying ‘We judge others by their actions, and ourselves by our intentions’ comes to mind. We don’t have to wait for a life review to judge others by their intentions, and perhaps even ourselves by our actions.”

Don’t React
“We can learn not to take things personally, to understand that behaviors are the results of conditioning, and to make conscious efforts to understand others instead of automatically reacting to them. As a result, our lives will change drastically for the better.”

Ego
“Once the ego is taken out of consciousness, we start seeing how many times in life we hindered our own learning process. Feelings of victimization, defeat, and apathy aren’t conducive to growth, and yet on earth, people often find themselves in ruts they find difficult to escape. Not so on the other side.”

Forgiveness
“Deciding to forgive is the single most liberating choice a soul can make. Even (and especially) those who were extremely stubborn in life come through and acknowledge that whatever it was that they used to be angry about now seems silly and pointless. They frequently describe how after they transitioned, they learned to let go of the unhappiness that came with focusing on the upsetting situations they faced during their lifetime. In the same way that a well-adjusted adult might no longer resent a childhood conflict, or even someone who bullied them, individuals on the other side grow and evolve in their understanding of themselves and others. Death is the next stage, and our spiritual adolescence during life evolves to adult maturity, upon our passing. People on the other side often communicate that once the lesson has been learned, there isn’t any point to holding on to conflict. Because our existence continues on after death, it would be a tremendous burden to hold on to one issue or another for all eternity. When a perspective is broadened enough, anger and resentment simply can’t survive the process.”

Gratitude
“For me, one of the most appealing perks of the afterlife is the heightened sense of thanks. Souls describe this feeling again and again, and I assume that this new gratitude comes along with their expanded perception. Souls say they appreciate the meanings and correlations between events and people that they didn’t perceive during their physical lifetimes. Even the most jaded of people in life express immense gratitude from the other side. With ego stripped out of the way, it’s much easier for souls to understand the role that challenges had in their learning process, without getting caught up in the negative emotions we experience in this realm. If the living were able to appreciate our lives as much as those on the other side, we’d be dramatically happier. We’d live every day as though it was our first and last. In fact, people on the other side often encourage us to focus on living in the present moment. It allows us to feel gratitude more fully, without hang-ups over the past, or fear about the future, clouding our minds. Reminding yourself of what you do have takes up headspace that might otherwise be focusing on what you don’t have. We can never have too much gratitude—it’s grounding, and it gives us clarity over what really matters in the present (and every) moment.”

Kindness, Compassion, Communicative Love
“I strive to encourage people to live their lives in such a way that they’ll never need help from someone like me. When we live each day with kindness, compassion, and communicative love, there is no business left unfinished. There are no regrets or words we should have said, but didn’t. There is no need for closure or forgiveness or apology of any kind. A life well lived is not harmed by death.”

Life Support
“… being on life support is like wearing locked handcuffs.”

Love
“Whether in Hanford or Hollywood, my intention will always be the same: to show as many people as I can that love lasts forever. The bonds we forge in this world never break.”

The Present
“If there’s one overall theme I could take away, it’s to appreciate life in every moment and respond to challenges in a way that’s true to who you are, even if it’s the more difficult path. With the past stirring regrets, and the future provoking anxieties, it’s important that we live in the present moment. It is, after all, all there ever really is.
If we can seek to be more present, we will be inclined to be truer to who we are and what we’re feeling. When we can authentically be who we truly are, and be honest with ourselves and our feelings—not making decisions out of past hurt and future fears—then we are free.”

Pride
“On countless occasions, people who have come through tell me that putting their pride aside would have made their life substantially easier and less painful.”

Self-Awareness
“One of the most fascinating parts of the transitioning process is the life review, because it allows us to see how our conditioning affected others and ourselves. When describing their life reviews, many souls acknowledge that they could have learned so much more had they applied more self-awareness and not allowed their conditioning to dictate their quality of life. For this reason, we can feel encouraged to seek more self-awareness and apply it wherever possible to our thoughts, choices, and circumstances. Challenging ourselves to find and retain lessons from the obstacles we face can help us go from a mentality of victimhood to one of progress.”

I ran across this show on TV one evening and got interested in it. Then I won a copy of the book on Goodreads this month. It's been a delight to read about Tyler's discovery of his gift at age 10 just before his Grandmother passed. And how he then went on to learn more about what it was, how he could understand it better and hone it to receive more clearly, etc. When his confidence grew as he got older and began to trust his guides, he began reading people and getting validation which helped let him know if what he was getting was good or not and really increased the confidence to an amazing level and he was losing some of his shyness. It's a wonderful book for anyone wanting to know more about mediums or Tyler in particular and how he got his start. He was actually going to go to school to be a hospice nurse, but he did a reading for a man who turned out to be the dean of the school he was about to sign up at, and when he ran into him again at the school, the dean told him he'd really be wasting his time as a nurse when he could be helping so many more people heal by doing readings instead. So he gave it some thought and decided the dean was right, and he went on to pursue his real passion and that is how he eventually ended up as The Hollywood Medium by pure chance. He learned to trust his instincts every day, and his guides help too. He says he trusts his gut and it has served him well. He also has very good people around him and a good family.

I am what can be described as an Empath, Indigo Adult, and clairvoyant. This isn’t the medium for me (no pun intended) to dive into what this entails (Google the terms, if interested); but I will say that it is both an exhausting but amazing way to live being that it causes one to view life on another level of existence. In my opinion, everyone has these skills to some degree but some tap into it more so than others. Tyler Henry, a young man in his early 20s, is more than a self-described Macaulay Culkin look alike with a hit E!- Entertainment television reality show… he is the real deal: a true, intuitive clairvoyant. Henry provides insight into his skills and profession with, “Between Two Worlds: Lessons from the Other Side”.

As intriguing as Tyler Henry is, and perhaps you have an urge to know the gossipy, personal insight into his life… you won’t find that here. “Between Two Worlds” is not a chronological biography or a tabloid look into a popular figure. Rather, Henry focuses his memoir on his profession: how he discovered his line of work, what his work entails, and the actual lessons and experiences therein. Henry immediately dives into the expose with the first few pages and thus a background or personal account is absent. Yet, there is nothing clinical about “Between Two Wolds” and the writing offers a personal connection to Henry and reveals who he is (and trust me- he is a remarkable kid).

“Between Two Worlds” is a very quick (1-day read) written on a relatively casual level. That being said, this doesn’t mean that the text is poorly written like so many Hollywood memoirs but it instead moves quickly because it is engaging, interesting, and a riveting topic/angle. There are times when the reader is left with unanswered questions but this is only because Henry is so interesting and profound for someone so young that readers find themselves wanting to be friends with him.

It is noticeable from a writing standpoint, that a ghostwriter undoubtedly was used because there is no way a 20 year old speaks in this manner or can describe situations/philosophy in such a way. This does cause some inconsistencies in the text but this isn’t a bad thing and “Between Two Worlds” is still quite worthy.

One of the highlights of “Between Two Worlds” is that despite Henry’s Hollywood celebrity clientele, his memoir doesn’t even speak of this, name drop, or have an egotistical attitude. This is a complete opposite from the typical memoir of popular figures showing Henry’s maturity and heightening the depth of the text.

Expanding on this depth, “Between Two Worlds” is a truly moving reading experience. Even aside from my own Empath and clairvoyant lifestyle; Henry’s writing has an impact and is thought-provoking for both young and adult readers, truly reaching audiences on a very personal level. This is a type of book one “has” to read for emotional fulfillment.

Henry does well with not stressing any specific religions, doctrines, or beliefs and merely describes his experience with his clairvoyance. “Between Two Worlds” is an unbiased read.

The final chapter of “Between Two Worlds” features a Q& A with Henry addressing commonly asked questions regarding his professional life and outlooks. Even this is an insightful and intriguing section, resulting in a strong conclusion to “Between Two Worlds”.

“Between Two Worlds” is a captivating and spiritual read. Henry’s writing chops may not be on a masterpiece-level but the message and intent is on another plane. “Between Two Worlds” is recommended for Tyler Henry fans, readers interested in clairvoyance, young adults interested in introspection, and those seeking some spiritual insight.

I found this young man's TV show just a couple of months ago while skimming channels. I have long been interested in, and a fan of, this subject matter. I started going to mediums years ago while I was pregnant with my 2nd child. That child is now 45 years old. I was told some things long ago by mediums, working in a religious environment, that have been validated throughout the years. My impression of this young man is that he is the real deal. His manner seems genuine, the way he works seems authentic from what I can tell on TV, and in reading this book, I see that he speaks of things that I have learned in my 71 years on this planet to be quite valid. His manner is calm, he seeks to serve his clients in the most loving and helpful manner he can, and I believe his gifts are genuine. The book is a pleasure to read. He validates things I have also learned in my search for love and truth. I am totally taken with him and believe his intentions are good and gifts are genuine. What a sense of calm and peace I get just from the small amount of work I have seen of his on the TV show he is on. I am happy to have found someone like him in my life's journey.

"A life well lived is not harmed by death." As a huge fan of Tyler's show on E. I was super excited to see he had written a book. I found his book to be interesting and insightful. And I even found quotes I liked. Even though I may not agree with everything I enjoyed reading his opinions and thoughts. I really like Tyler as a person and he seems like such a caring individual.

If you are familiar with Tyler Henry's show, then you know what the majority of this book is about. It is always a little strange to read a memoir written by a 20 year old, as they have only a limited life experience. Tyler tells us about his early years and how he first discovered his psychic abilities.

This book reinforced for me what a nice sweet boy he is, and how he uses his skills to help people heal and grow. He does spend a fair part of this small book explaining what he believes which is interesting, discussing what he thinks happens when we die and how our love continues, even when our loved ones have passed.

I read this in a day! I love Tyler and his show. I thought this was a good supplemental read as a Tyler Henry fan. Loved especially his thoughts on religion vs. spirituality. His soul is far older than his physical body! A reassuring read, also, for those who fear death, or are grieving the loss of loved ones.

I’ve been a fan of Tyler Henry’s show, so was excited to read this book and see how things got going for him as a celebrity medium.

Tyler knew he had a gift when he was younger, but was apprehensive to share with others because of what they thought. He ended up finding some support at a store in his community, where he learned more about mediumship and how to develop his own gift. The story of how his name spread and how celebrities started to book him was amazing. Such a neat story.

I am an avid reader of memoirs, self-help, and spiritually driven books. A friend of mine knew this and sent me a surprise in the mail...an autographed copy of Between Two Worlds! (I have to disclose that I am a fan of Henry's reality show Hollywood Medium on E!) I cracked open this book with enthusiasm and excitement and I wasn't disappointed. It's part memoir and part self -help, (and we all know I can use all the self-help a book can throw at me).

The book starts with a very quick recap of Henry's early childhood and his first "experience", the premonition of the death of his beloved grandmother. The book takes a chronological journey from there, recounting how he honed his abilities as a medium and how he got his big break at such an early age. Midway through, Henry talks about how he focuses and the methods he uses to keep his gift sharp. He also talks about how he struggled to gain acceptance from his conservative father about his abilities, which is also a wonderful story.

I really enjoyed this book. Henry's writing comes across just as he does on his show: calm and steady. I personally read it with light-heartedness and in the interest of learning something new. While I read a ton of paranormal subject matter, it's usually in a fictional setting. I'm not here to debate whether mediums are real or hokum, I'm reviewing the book as a fan of the show and as someone who has experienced a few things that I can't explain. I found that reading something Paranormal in the context of real life situations is quite fascinating and this book awoke me to a new genre of reading. It also inspired further research for my own Urban Fantasy novel in progress! I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys paranormal accountings, memoirs, uplifting reads, or fans of Henry's in general. I'm giving it a 5 out of 5 Stars. The content was clear and easy to follow. There is no graphic or explicit material which means it's safe for my YA readers and fans of clean reads. Most importantly, it left me optimistic and happy, something that doesn't happen often. I hope everyone enjoys it as much as I did!

I really liked this book since it seemed very authentic. It was very interesting reading about Tyler Henry's life growing up up and how he decided to embace his gifts and become a medium in order to help others. It gave me a good understanding of how information comes through to a medium, what to expect duing a good reading and how to respond during a reading.

This was really interesting. I've always enjoyed Tyler Henry, he has a very quiet and sympathetic approach. I wasn't really expecting to learn so much of his perception of things like past life regression and the process in which a soul transitions through life after death in regards to transgressions here on Earth. If you are interested in Mediums or life after death, this is a very interesting read.

When it comes to psychics, I lean more on the side of skepticism. Though spiritual myself, the concept of communing with the dead for money immediately sets me on edge. It's not that I don't believe that someone who can communicate with the dead should charge for their service; it is a service after all, and does require a fair amount of effort on the part of the person performing the reading. However, watching the likes of Sylvia Browne fumble over the cause of death for a 9/11 victim on national television, or hearing about the underhanded tactics that occur at group readings, I look at people like Tyler Henry with a fair amount of skepticism.

With that said, my review of this book is not based on whether or not I think that Tyler Henry is telling the truth about his gifts. The frustrating reality is that Mr. Henry's (as well as every other TV psychic's) entire persona is shown to the world in a very particular way, and any signs that he may not be truthful about his gifts will never come to light.

A die-hard fan might be wondering why, if I have such a cynical view of television psychics, would I read a book written by one. Well, first off, I bought this book last Christmas on Book Depository in a shamefully large haul, so I kind of had to get it off of my TBR at some point. Second of all, I find the concept of the afterlife fascinating and in my research of it, I look through multiple sources - even those that may or may not be accurate in their portrayal of things.

As someone who has read a fair amount about the subject of the afterlife, written by psychics and scientists alike, I know that a lot of what Tyler Henry states in his book is very similar to the general consensus among psychics. There is nothing new or insightful in this book to really differentiate himself from the countless other people who have spent their lives communing with the dead.

As none of his insights into the afterlife are particularly original, I won't factor them into my review. Removing them, however, leaves me with very little in the way of reviewable content on which to base my star rating, and what is left is not all that great either.

This book isn't particularly well written, but honestly I wasn't looking for that when I picked up this book. TV personalities, or the ghost writers who tell their stories, can't be expected to pump out Pulitzer prize winning prose. Outside of the writing, though, the rest just feels like a humble brag.

In an attempt to show proof of his validity as a psychic, Henry ends up bringing up all the times he was right about something relating to a deceased loved one. I understand the necessity of these stories, but when they are told one after the other without anything to really display his fallibility as a psychic, it just reads like a list of times he was a bad ass.

For all of the above reasons, I couldn't justify giving this book a rating higher than two, because while it certainly wasn't among the worst books I've ever read, it wasn't exactly good either.

Everyone has different beliefs, and whether or not the concept of a medium has any place in those beliefs, is something that is very individual. I personally believe that God gifts each person with natural talents, some of which are very prevalent.

I was intrigued by this young man who comes across on TV, as a very authentic person, with a very loving and gentle energy/soul. Regardless of whether you believe in mediums or not, there are some great “takeaways” from this book that apply to living our life in the here and now. Also, if you have any interest in intuition, I would encourage you to read it. I was impacted by these topics:

• Getting a strong feeling when you first meet someone. He described an experience where he got a feeling that the person he just met would be someone significant and that he felt he was meant to play a role in this person’s life.
• How we should try to be more childlike if we want to develop our intuition – being open, receptive, nonjudgmental, removing bias, and allowing our imagination to soar.
• Try and remove the ego when interacting with others.
• He reaffirmed my belief that when moments of synchronicity occur, it is a message from God/your higher power/guides that you are on the right path.
• He answered questions on multiple marriages and soulmates and other related topics – all very interesting.

I was amazed by Tyler’s wisdom at such a young age. There were lots of goose bump moments in this book for me. There were three “biggies” that came right at the end…boom, boom, boom. I’ll tag them as quotes rather than include them in this review.

I won this free book in a giveaway.

I've seen his show and was very interested in his book. So happy I won it.

The book is part autobiography mixed with his beliefs. For those who are unaware of who he is; Tyler is a self proclaimed medium with his own show. Speaking of his show- I am disappointed in it because I've only seen him give readings to celebrities. I guess it's about marketing. Perhaps "ordinary" people receiving readings wouldn't be lucrative for the show.

A long time believer that the spirit world can communicate with us, I was eager to believe Tyler was not a "gimmick". Happy to say I believe he's the real deal. Especially after reading his book. There will always be skeptics and that is their choice. I choose to believe. It might be because I've had visions of things happening mere minutes before they actually happen. Many people have them and shrug them off. I did and nearly killed my cat! My mum had visions also.

You must read his book with eyes wide open and judgement set aside. His book is very candid. I was not written with the intent of convincing you but rather to better know him and help you understand.

Normally I wouldn't even have bothered reading a semi autobiography of such a young man but this was different. As Mikey always said " Try it, you'll like it."

As a fan of the show "Hollywood Medium", it was really interesting to learn about Tayler's gift of mediumship on a different level. Told from his perspective, he was successfully able to break it down as to how he first found out that he could speak to the other side. I find this kind of stuff fascinating.

His memoir was a witty and relatable. Tyler genuinely wants to make a difference in people's lives that may be struggling after a friend or loved one has passed. It was really cool to hear about how each of his readings appears to be unique in nature. He is always discovering new signs and secrets.

My favorite part of the book was the "Q&A" section at the back where fans were able to submit questions that they were dying to get answered from Tyler. His answers were in-depth, and you can tell that he is wise beyond his years. I would totally recommend this book to anyone who is interested in mediumship as well as a unique story of how an ordinary boy realized his extraordinary talents!

This book was a little different to what I expected. I was expecting stories of Tyler's experiences with the other side & although there was some of this there, it was mostly a self help book for those trying to understand the loss of loved ones & what the other side is really about. Even though this wasn't what I bargained for, I still enjoyed the read immensely.
