We used this book during my small group Bible study. Each chapter had some key thoughts and examples with commentary from other individuals, pastors and lay leaders. I liked the practical action items at the end of each chapter

Loads of good ideas and nice connections between theories and practicalities. Do take the time to do the exercises included with each chapter.

A short but helpful book on the practicalities of Christian discipleship and service in the modern world. Understandably rooted in and intensely coloured by Harnish's own experience in the American UMC but this has plenty to say outside of that theological and cultural bubble especially into the wider Wesleyan family... This is the second time I've read through this, and it was perhaps even more helpful this time, especially as I used the accompanying leaders guide this time... I suspect that I may return to this again, but with a group the next time.
