Born out of her popular website Beyond Mom, Randi's book is a guide for mothers looking to jump-start their business ideas by finding connection from within. The 1.2 million women in America each year who choose not to return to traditional work after having children have found themselves filled with an unexpected creative energy, but lack the knowledge and network to tap it.
With the support of the Beyond Mom community behind you, Randi provides the guidance and the tools women need to find their strength, body, and mind, thus laying the integral foundation to bring entrepreneurial ideas to fruition. Her distinct approach is as practically accessible as it is holistic--a former yoga teacher who also possesses a decade of experience as an acting CEO, she knows that personal well-being is critically connected to any thriving business venture. Because the first step to personal wellness and idea growth begins with you.
In addition, each chapter features an interview from the Beyond Mom network of celebrity moms, successful businesswomen, and clients, like bestselling author and coach Alexandra Jamieson, renowned psychotherapist Terri Cole, IntenSati founder Patricia Moreno, and author/anthropologist Wednesday Martin, just to name a few. Honest, smart, and relatable, Randi provides wisdom and encouragement to build entrepreneurs (who are also moms) from deep within!
I found this book to be extremely thought-provoking and inspiring! As a mom of two trying to to develop a new career it felt very relevant to the season I am in and it also made me feel less alone. There are lots of other moms who want to find meaning not only in parenthood, but also as businesswomen and entrepreneurs with both drive and flexibility.
This book is part self-help and part practical how-to guide for the early stages of a business, which actually wasn't what I was expecting. It gets you thinking about things like creating a brand that is rooted in who you are, letting other people help you with tasks at the right time, networking, and much more. Randi's passion for health and fitness also comes through clearly throughout the book, positioned as an important element of self-care for busy, driven women.
While I think you can find much of this information in other places, what's unique about the book is how different strands have been collected into one place for the target audience- moms with an entrepreneurial spirit. It's great to have things all together, and to hear the voices of other moms who have been successful in their chosen path. This is a book I can see myself referring to in the future as I move forward with my incubating ideas. I definitely recommend it as a starting point if you are in that weird transition space that can come with motherhood!
"Beyond Mom" is a guidebook for moms who want to jump-start their business ideas by finding connections. It starts right after childbirth. It talks about sex. It talks about everything you'd ever want to know. It includes actionable solutions, expert interviews, advice, and other women's stories. Each chapter features an interview with celebrity moms and successful businesswoman. The main principle is that all parts of ourselves are interconnected, whether our physical body, our spiritual self, or our emotional well-being. This book takes the reader through a step-by-step process of defining these different layers of who we are and bringing them together. The book's real purpose is to get you back into a sense of wholeness and that all of you have attention to some degree because you are a whole person.
The book doesn't just go into mom-dom, but also the business part and entrepreneurial part of being a mom, which I loved as part of this book. I think this is a real differentiating factor from other mom books. It's about harnessing an entrepreneurial spirit, what you want to do with your life, and giving back. The author provides us with a roadmap interspersed with her own unique stories and tips and quotes. From birth to babies to businesses! It's not just for moms, though; it's really about how to get through life and do what you love.
