Lissa will do almost anything to thwart her father’s plans for her. Getting kidnapped wasn’t on her list. And once she meets Stone no other man matters. She falls, and she falls hard. But even on home soil, there’s no respite as she finds the nightmare has followed her home…and she’s caught in the middle of it.
It’s a battle that requires both of them to not only clear her name but to keep her safe…especially when a twist is thrown at them that they didn’t see coming

If you've read books from this series before you may remember that Stone lost a leg on a mission that ended his career as a SEAL. Since then he has joined Levi's security company but he hasn't felt as though he truly been part of a mission since he lost a leg. However, that all changes with a mission to rescue a Senator's daughter, Lissa. Not only does Stone feel like he is a part of the team again, he also finds a chance at love. Reading what Stone has done and been through, I love the way Lissa saw past his tough guy persona and saw who he was inside. Plus it was funny reading how the other guys teased him for it! Another great read by Dale Mayer!
Stone is still adjusting to his new reality since losing his leg during a mission last year. Though knowing they were betrayed still hurts, he and his team have begun finding some closure after what happened. Capturing the man responsible for it and working for Levi's new company has helped with the emotional healing process. Stone is thankful he can still protect others using the skills he learned in the military, while no longer being enforced to work under governmental restrictions.
Lissa has always felt like an outsider in her family. Her Dad, a Senator, has never hesitated to verbalize his disappointment in her, her views on things, and anything she stands for, and her Mom, as always, meekly follows his lead. She has dedicated her life to helping others and strives to make the world a better place one good deed at a time. However, that cliche no good deed goes unpunished is known for a reason.
Stone and the others are sent on a mission to rescue Lissa. Her father seems the picture of sincere concern for his daughter's safety, but it isn't until Lissa and two other volunteers are freed from their kidnappers that Lissa paints a different picture regarding her father's true opinions of her. Though the intention is to return Lissa to her family, she has no desire to be near those who should love her, yet have never accepted her.
It quickly becomes apparent that more is going on when Lissa is not only questioned due to something she supposedly has, but also becomes the focus of numerous attempts to locate her. Unfortunately, Lissa has no idea why anyone would think this, nor what they're looking for.
While investigating the situation further and assuring Lissa's safety, the connection that started forming between Stone and Lissa shortly after meeting steadily grows and morphs into a yearning neither can deny. As they fall for each other, Lissa's caught in the middle of someone else's nefarious dealings. When it's revealed who devised this plan, Lissa isn't completely out of danger as the intended recipients still demand their product.
Will Stone allow Lissa to see the vulnerability he tries to hide since losing his leg? Will Lissa be able to prove to Stone that it doesn't change how she feels about him? Can he believe that she truly is okay with his prosthetic and in fact views him as a hero, though he's always shied away from that label? Who is behind the danger to Lissa and why? Will she be safe once the truth is revealed? If so, what does that mean for her and Stone? Will they stay together knowing what they've found with one another is real and lasting? Or will they let each other go believing their time together was always meant to end?
One-click now and follow along as two people, both struggling with their own insecurities, discover each other during a dangerous situation and realize the truly scary part is risking their heart. This is book two in the series and I highly recommend reading the titles in order. Also, if you haven't already, I suggest this author's SEALs of Honor series as this is a spinoff of it.
**I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.**
** I received this as an ARC in exchange for my honest review. **
If I'm honest, this is closer to 3-1/2 stars, but the story was interesting enough to round up. This is the second in the series and focuses on Stone's relationship with Lissa, the daughter of a senator who his team rescued along with a husband/wife medical team in Afghanistan. She'd been there volunteering. Yes, she's a senator's daughter, but she never felt comfortable in her father's world, so she volunteers all over the world. Even though she and her father don't exactly get along, he is the one who sent Levi's team to extract her. But the mystery amps up when they're held up in London customs due to something found in Lissa's backpack. She hasn't handled her backpack in weeks due to the kidnapping, so she's clueless. When the wife dies and her husband disappears, the story turns more weird. And when she finally arrives home to find her place trashed, Stone knows he can't leave her on her own and suggests she come back with him to the compound. Sparks had been flying between her and Stone from the beginning, though it really felt a little insta-love-ish to me. I'm not sure I "felt" why they were so drawn to each other, but they definitely were. And they begin to question whether the other person is in this just because it's convenient or because they are truly beginning something good, so they have to work through those kinds of issues. Once the whole mystery pans out, the story just ends, and it felt really abrupt. It was definitely an interesting story, but the insta-love and the abrupt ending affected my overall view of the book.
I loved to read about Stone and Lissa. Despite everything they both went through, they never lost themselves, which is rare nowadays. Of course, they're not very good talking about sentiments... but in the end it all went well. I also enjoyed how the compound was not as breachable as in the previous book... However, as I didn't read the previous books they appeared, I felt somehow lost in the background. As if the're was more about Levi and the others that I missed. As a standalone, it's easy to pick from there onwards, but we still miss something that was supposed to be there...
This is the second book in the Heroes for Hire series that can be read as a stand-alone.
When his SEAL team was betrayed Stone Tollard lost a leg and his career. Healing from a devastating injury took time as well as getting used to living with a prosthesis but he’s ready to get back into action. He’s joined his former commander’s private security company and his first mission with the team is to rescue a senator’s daughter kidnapped in Afghanistan and being held for ransom. They expected to retrieve one woman and ended up saving three hostages, complications arise when going through Customs in London that place doubt on the senator’s daughter.
Volunteering around the world is one way Melissa (Lissa) Brampton distances herself from her wealthy political family. She’s doesn’t fit in their world, is a constant disappointment and she rebels against her father’s designs for her future. Though volunteering is an escape she’s a down to earth person who likes helping others. She just never planned on being kidnapped along with married doctors, she’s not even sure her father would pay ransom for her. She’s grateful when rescued by a team of former SEAL’s.
Considering her background Lissa’s personality is surprising, she’s smart, tougher than she looks, apt to speak her mind without a filter which is refreshing and confusing to the team at first. Stone’s the one who makes her feel the safest bringing out the protectiveness in this big man. She latches onto him to alleviate her nerves and soon finds herself falling for him, she doesn’t care he’s lost an appendage, she sees the man inside, a caring gentle giant, and the team will never let Stone live down that nickname. When the trouble overseas follows her home, not to her father’s where she refuses to stay but to her own townhome in Texas that was ransacked, Stone brings her to the compound to keep her safe.
An injury like Stone’s takes a toll not just on the body but the mind, loss of self-confidence, depression become companions but that didn’t stop him from moving forward with his life. Being back on a mission with his team helped as did having a feisty, sexy woman he’s attracted to fall for him. Lissa was a great partner for Stone, unafraid to fight when someone tries to hurt those she cares for (interrogation scene showed her true grit). The romance was sweet, honest, and at times amusing, two flawed people made a connection under stress that stayed real when all was done. Great action and suspense in this story.
An advanced reading copy was obtained from the author.
The second book in the Heroes for hire series. These men and woman have been through a lot. After a mission had gone wrong where Levi and his men had been double crossed, they have all been left with injuries. Some are physical like Stone who lost a leg and some are not so much. But they all carry scares from that day.
Stones getting back on his feet and off on his first mission since his leg was blown off. This mission is to recuse a senators daughter who has been kidnapped from the refugee camp she was volunteering at in the Middle East. While Lissa was volunteering at a refugee she was kidnapped along with two of the doctors, Kevin & Susan. Susan isn't looking all that well and Lissa is determined to get herself and the others out of the place they are being held. That's just when Levi's men broke in and rescued them. Levi's men were only expecting to rescue one person Lissa, however they were not going to leave Kevin & Susan behind. Lissa has gotten attached to Stone quite quickly. He is big and strong but also kind and there is just something about him that draws Lissa to him. Lissa is a breath of fresh air for all the guys but especially for Stone. She's corages, determined, spunky and just right for Stone. However even though she should be safe at home she's still a target. After her house was ransacked and most of her possessions was destroyed. Stones determined to keep Lissa safe right by his side.
I've never really been into Navy or Seals' books even if they are romance books. I have now read two books for this series and I'm loving them. Next on my list is book 3 and 4 of the Heroes for hire series. There is another series Seals of Honor which i would recommend to read beforehand (which I will be doing in the near future), maybe before reading this series of Heroes for hire. I found that in Levi's Legend which is the first book of this series, that some of the story was missing. But for this book as long as you have read book one you will be fine.
I would definitely recommend this book. If you are looking for something different than the same rich business man who gets the girl after losing her you will love the change of pace of Stone's Surrender.
I have the first three books of this Heroes for Hire series in one book. I am reviewing them individually as I read them.
I love Stone, he has such inner strength and determination, as well as some problems. This is his first mission since his recovery, issues with swelling and his prosthesis have been frustrating for him.
Lissa is a senator's daughter who has been bucking her father's will for a long time. Finally out on her own she volunteers all over, helping refugee in whatever capacity she can. This time she ends up in more trouble than even she can imagine. Kidnapped along with two American doctors in Afghanistan, she doesn't hold out much hope of rescue. The policy is no ransom and she isn't sure her father would pay it anyway.
Levi and his team undertake the mission to get Lissa out and they get a surprise. They were expecting only Lissa and found the two doctors as well. One of which wasn't doing all that well.
First London and some interesting things with luggage, followed by the journey to Melissa's family home. She does manage to elude her father edicts and join them for the trip to Texas in an unconventional way. This leads to the discovery of much destruction in Melissa's house and so much more.
With nothing really making sense to her, Stone knows he can't let her shoulder all of this alone. The team in good conscience needs to unravel all the mayhem and mystery.
Lots of interesting surprises and the simmer to sizzle relationship between Stone and Lissa will have you turning the pages.
I am off to read the next book in this series. I really hope to catch up before Vince's Vixen is released in October. There's a lot of books to go.
This is the second book in this amazing series with Stone, the SEAL who lost his leg in the ambush that his unit suffered. This was the first assignment with Levi's security company that he could participate in the field which was to save a senator's daughter,Lissa who was volunteering in a refuge camp when she was kidnapped along with two other doctors in Afghanistan. They extracted them from a compound where they were not being humanly treated and had to use Tesla's mine finding software to navigate their trucks without getting blown up. From the moment Lissa saw Stone she felt safe with him and his gentleness with her. This is the beginning of their exciting suspenseful love story as Lissa finds someone that will finally love her where her parents did not and Stone found someone who loves him regardless of his appearance. They solve the mystery of why everyone is getting tortured and killed because they think Lissa has experimental drugs that belong to them, a drug company. Turns out theoretical doctors were involved and sent the package to Lissa's home which they destroyed looking for it. They even tortured and killed Lissa's innocent friend who was bringing in her mail. Levi and Ice were happy that Stone found the love of his life and she was willing to protect Some as well. I highly recommend this new series and cannot wait to read the next book in Heroes for Hire series..
Of all the team that were injured Stone was the only one to lose a limb, it has taken him longer to recover due to getting used to and having adjustments made to his prosthetic. Having problems with swelling and soreness from his stump has also slowed him up getting in on active duty in the private security company they are all now part of, finally away from desk duty this is his chance to show everyone he can do this. Being hired to rescue a senators daughter who has been kidnapped doesn't end up as straight forward as they expected, there is a couple with her. Lots of action and twists in this story, some violence as well. Mostly though this is a story of love, acceptance and second chances. Stone is seen in a different light in the interactions with Lissa, not so tough it is nice to see a more gentle side. Not really ever expecting to find anyone willing to want him with only one leg let alone love Stone had thought to be alone forever, Lissa not only proves him wrong but doesn't even show any reaction to the situation. I loved this, of all of this team Stone was the one I had been most worried about and having someone accept him for who he is now was heart warming. Betrayal, suspense and many surprise twists keep you riveted and the love side has you smiling in this great second book in the new series.
So this was another book that was sent for an honest review. That being said. I am a little obsessed with the adventure filled stories that at the root are love stories.
Stone has always had a special place in my heart. Stone has always been my favorite of the seals. I have always rooted for him. So I extremely excited that he finally got his own story. It was refreshing to read about a guy who lost his leg but chose to not let it bother him.
These stories all start out with a bang and this one is no different. This one was no different. There was something that propelled me to keep swiping. I could tell that from the beginning Stone and Lissa had a connection and that there was something more between them. Their romance moves rather quickly but when you have career full of danger, like Stone and the rest of the crew, I guess life moves a little quicker and a little fast paced. But this faster paced life works for them. I love how they are completely honest and there for each other.
All the seals are men's men. They fight hard and live lives full of danger. They have a way of taking care of business. I can't wait for more Heroes for Hire.
I just loved Stone and Lissa's story. The misconceptions place on people based on the public opinion of how someone would "be" as a person never fail to amaze me. Lissa was so far from what everyone thought she should be it was funny. She did not flaunt fame , money or position but tried to be a good person and help where she could. Stone is still overcoming his self conciseness from losing his leg and is totally unprepared for his feelings for Lissa. Stone is a strong man with a soft heart and will never live down the moniker of "Gentle Giant" that Lissa places upon him. Both characters are wounded in different ways and together they are able to heal themselves. Lots of action, a mystery to solve and another romance comes into play. The easy banter between the characters is fun , the fierce protectiveness from both male and female characters is amusing. The storyline flows along nicely, is easy to follow and will definitely keep you entertained. I am never disappointed when I read one of Ms. Mayer's stories and this series is quickly becoming one of my favorites. I look forward to the next Hero for Hire to become a Hero of the heart. I volunteered to read this story for my honest opinion.
We got to know Stone from a few other snips in books in the series. However you really get to know our hero in this one. Our hero lost his leg and was forced to be medially discharged from the military. There is a lot if mental baggage when this happens and our hero is feeling it. As he learns to adapt to how to use his new leg and others reactions to it, he gets put into different duties within the team.
As he adapts better, he's then allowed to join the group on a rescue exercise. Here he meets our heroine, who is in the country due to her daddy telling her not to go. In defense, she'd be sitting in the corner in a chair if her father could manage it, so this is her thumbing her nose up at him. She does this a few times to her father but as you can see how he treats her, you can't blame her.
Anyway, our hero and heroine get to know each other, they each find someone to support and encourage the to grow. As their relationship grows so does the danger they are in and they find strength in their connection along with the team.
Stone's Surrender by Dale Mayer Heroes for Hire Series Book Two Stone Tollard loved working for Legendary Security, and with his old SEAL unit. What he hated was having to be on the sidelines when he was having issues. Like dealing with his stump healing and his prosthetic fitting right. But, for now, he was doing better and on a mission. A mission that was about to change his life. Again.
Lissa Brampton's rebelliousness really got her in a pickle this time. To defy her overbearing father, she took off as fast as she could to volunteer for another mission to help others. Only this trip didn't turn out so well. She was kidnapped.
The team is sent to rescue Lissa and bring her back to the States. Only...trouble seemed to follow them every step of the way. A page-turning story that's action-packed with love trying to fit in where it can. **Sexual content https://justjudysjumbles.blogspot.com...
A great continuation in the Heroes for Hire series this one being Stone's story and the woman who catches his eye and heart, Lissa. After rescuing her when she was kidnapped in Afghanistan and held for ransom she latches onto Stone and names him the gentle giant. She feels safe with him even though his body is imposing he is gentle and kind to her. When her luggage is held at customs due to drugs in it, her life is in danger since she has no idea where they came from. When they return to the States, her & friend's house is vandalized and she moves into the compound but only feels safe in Stone's bed. Stone is still self conscious of the leg he lost and his stump but that doesn't even faze Lissa which only adds to the attraction for the two. What I enjoyed is the easy banter between the two and how open they are with each other, not hiding and allowing what happens between the two happen. Also Lissa is a strong woman and I loved how she stood up to the intruder and defended Stone as well as some chuckles along the way. Another great story by Dale Mayer and I can't wait for more of Heroes for Hire. *I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book*
Stone Tollard works for Legendary Security along with his fellow Navy SEAL unit in Texas. Stone hates the sandbox but he'll do his job. He spies the young woman his team has been sent to rescue. Little did he know his world is about to be turned upside down. Melissa "Lissa" Brampton was kidnapped while doing humanitarian work. Lissa doesn't see how it's possible to be rescued but she's got hope. Getting rescued was just the beginning for Lissa and Stone. Lissa thought all her problems were left behind but that's not the case at all. Lissa's world is turned upside down. What is happening to Lissa? Can Stone move forward with his life? Your answers await you in Stone's Surrender.
I'm loving this series! The characters and story are complex, fascinating, compelling, rich, bold, fiesty, mysterious, real, raw, honest, and down to earth. I can't wait for my next adventure in this series!
WOW! Now this is an interesting story for Stone and Lissa. Lissa is kidnapped by terrorists and her father hires Levi's team to rescue her. Once Lissa is rescued, she attaches herself to Stone as she finds him intriguing. The team brings Lissa back to her parents but refuses to stay while the team heads back to their compound. Lissa sneaks out of her parent's home and gets into the limo that is taking the team to the airport. Lissa makes it to her home only to find it trashed and then finds her best friend is murdered because of something that she has no idea about what her kidnapped friend had done. When she finally gets answers, it's too for her friend as he is murdered right in front of her. Now that the threat seems to be over for Lissa, Stone and Lissa can get on with their happily ever after. FANTASTIC job Dale! I would recommend this book.
Stone has gone through a long slow recovery and is back working for Levi and for his first active role he rescues a kidnapped senator's daughter Lissa. Determined to do anything to spoilt her father's plans for her, Lissa did not plan on getting kidnapped but as soon as she meets Stone nothing else seems important however when they return to their home country she finds the nightmare seems to be there still - ban they find out what this is all about, clear her name and move on with their lives?
This was a great story with lots of drama, danger and an underlying mystery that kept my attention all the way through as I tried to work out all the different scenarios that could have caused all that drama. Well written and easy to understand, it was a charming love story merged into a dramatic story all around danger, betrayal and corruption. Definitely recommended.
Stone’s Surrender is book 2 of Ms Mayer’s new series titled Heroes for Hire. This time the story centers around Stone and Lissa. Stone and LIssa are both strong, sensitive, and well developed characters. I absolutely fell in love with Stone. Here we have a man that is honorable, courageous and suffered a loss during combat. As an ex-SEAL, men that consider their bodies their temple, this loss is devastating. That said, it’s a story filled with action, suspense, and romance. I think what I like best of Ms Mayer’s books is that she reminds us of the sacrifices these courageous men and women that serve our country, make for us. For that alone, thank you . I was gifted this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
*voluntarily and honestly reviewed the ARC I received from Maxwell Author Services*
I loved this! Really adorable and funny but so suspenseful, on the verge of scary (if you read in the dark) when it came to figuring out who was trying to get Lissa. Stone's a cute softie with muscles to intimidate when the going gets tough, and Lissa was surprisingly endearing. A privileged daughter of the senator, I liked seeing how she got her backbone and how she continued to learn and be a better person. I don't want to sound cheesy but I really did like the way she handled herself throughout the whole crazy thing. Stone was just as cute, with his wariness for giving his heart away to a girl he just met during a rescue mission. I liked seeing the others or hearing about them again, felt really nostalgic since I've been around since the beginning of the SEALs of Honor. If you love military romance this is an automatic must for you.
Dale Mayer is the queen of romantic suspense. As with all her books, this one was top notch. The intrigue and romance was skillfully woven to keep the reader glued to the pages.
I love the way that she portrays her charcters, especially Stone. He is such a wonderfully warm and compassionate character in spite of his big bad persona. As I read more of this series I am getting to know all the heroes, and I have to say the more I read of them the more I like this group of men.
Lissa was the right blend of comassionate and stubborn. She stood up for Stone and showed that she would be a worthy partner, even with everything happening to her. This book is well worth the read.
I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
Oh, wow… I thought Levi’s book was great. This one was even better! I absolutely LOVE Lissa and Stone. Lissa was a delicate lady with backbone of steel. She knew what she wanted and she went for it, without being obnoxious or spoilt brat. She’s strong in her own way, compassionate, and highly lovable in overall. Stone was a big guy with a big heart who felt insecure for losing his leg. He tried his best to conquer his demons, yet he still felt depressed sometimes. He’s like a big teddy bear who could be a grizzly when you poked him wrong.
The balance between romance and suspense was great, as usual. The story was flawless, also as usual. What I love most about this book is the way Ms. Mayer’s touch the issue of depression in a bad-ass hero. Someone who’s willing to go forward, yet still threaten by depression. It was so real and believable. I adore this book!
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. I was not compensated for my review, and I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed here is my own.
Wow, the books in this series just seem to be getting better. Stone's Surrender is filled with action, danger, intrigue, mystery, murder and happy feelings. I highly recommend this book if you enjoy any of these things that end with a HEA.
I did not want to put this book down once I started reading it. It held my attention from page one and at times I couldn't read fast enough to see what was going to happen in the upcoming pages.
I rated this book 5 big gold stars and it deserved every one of them. Thank you Dale Mayer for your ability to create such entertainment for your readers. I am anxious to get on with reading Merk's story.
Loved this book. So enjoy how Dale writes characters that are bigger than life and appear on the outside like nothing can hurt or phase them but on the inside they have strong insecurities. Stone is a man with heart and integrity but feels since he was hurt that he is less than whole and underserving. While he and the team work to resolve the latest mystery he finds that there is soul mate for him and it is what is in his heart that matters. Makes us all think about how we view people by appearance instead of looking for the real person first. As always Dale Mayer wrote a book that I didn't want to end because I was lost in the characters world.
This series is fantastic, I'm really enjoying it and believe others will too. Stone is slowly getting his life together after leaving his military career behind due to a betrayal and losing his leg. Lissa is the daughter of a wealthy senator who wants more out of life than what her mother has, she goes overseas to help others and gets kidnapped. Legendary Security is hired to bring her back but Lissa has other plans after taking a shine to Stone. Things get worse for Lissa after she returns home to find her house ransacked. She ends up back at the compound with Stone enabling their relationship to grow while trying to find out who and what are after her.

This book was ok. 4.5 stars. It was easy to read and captured my attention from the beginning. There was action at the star and continued on. I guess after reading the first book where there was exciting action that got me tense at times wondering how they were going to get away, this one seemed a bit lackluster. The plot was interesting as to why people are targeting Lissa.
The relationship between Stone and Lissa was a bit lackluster for me too. I like how they felt a connection right at the start and were both willing to explore where it could lead. It was smooth sailing the whole time. At the end of the book, I didn’t feel that connected with them.
Fearful of been rejected because of his missing limb Stone was struggling with his feelings. Seemed the woman who caught his heart was more interested in who he was that his physical appearance. Committed to her safety, Stone was risking everything for the feisty and strong woman who was struggling to keep her independence. Another intense story full of action and suspense. Intrigue, romance, hot sex, violence and lot of skillful, sexy and loyal characters. Love the action and the amazing descriptions that allow me to visualize the scenes.
Stone's Surrender is fast pace for the two main characters Stone and Lissa. Stone lost his leg while he was active Navy Seal and is now a member of Legendary Security aka Heroes for Hire. Lissa was kidnapped by rebels and The Heroes are sent in to rescue her, and Stone will find that Lissa is everything that he needs and wants. Lissa falls hard and fast for Stone and she just wants him to love her for who she is as an person not a Senator's daughter. Can they both overcome their demons to get a HEA? Happy Reading!!!
Stone and Lissa's story was fast and full of action.
Lissa is kidnapped and being a senator's daughter she is saved by Stone and Legend Security. But as with all things, the rescue didn't go according to the plan.
Lissa is sweet and spunky and drawn to Stone but since losing his leg Stone is gun shy with women but Lissa doesn't make a big deal out of it, she gets under his skin and he is hooked.
Their story was not without twists and turns. As always I loved the characters.
A new series to love and a new set of heroes to admire, respect and drool over!
Stone wonders if he will ever have what Levi and Ice have. He really wants that. Lissa is a free spirit and will do anything possible to go against her father. She wants to volunteer to help others. The guys are hired by the Senator to rescue his daughter. They are quite surprised when there is also a couple there, but they rescue them also. They encounter a problem at the airport when they are flying back. There are a few other surprises that occur when they return. One of them is the attraction between Stone and Lissa. They need to clear her in order for them to move forward.
I listened to the audiobook. I thought the story was good, but the narration was not good at all. I expected Stone and the other heroes for hire to have much more bass in their voices.
I liked Stone, and Lissa was ok. I wonder if I would have liked her more if I had read the book instead of listening to it. She seemed to be excessively clingy, but that was understandable considering the circumstances.
I did like the action, danger, and suspense of the story. I might read the next book instead of listening to the audiobook. The narration was irritating.
