Pierre Dukan is a French medical doctor and nutritionist, and the creator of the famous Dukan Diet.

In 1975, Pierre Dukan is a general practitioner in Paris when he was first confronted with a case of obesity. At the time, being overweight or obese was thought to be best treated by low calorie and small sized meals. Dukan thought of an alternative way to prevent patients from regaining their lost weight after dieting. He designed a new approach in four phases, including stabilisation and consolidation. After 20 odd years of research Pierre Dukan published his findings in 2000 in his book Je ne sais pas maigrir (I don't know how to get slimmer) which became a bestseller in France.

The book became a bestseller in the UK after Carole Middleton introduced her daughter Catherine, now The Duchess of Cambridge, to the diet before her wedding to Prince William. Catherine lost two dress sizes.

Dukan has published 19 books which have sold more than 11 million copies in 25 langages.

A fairly simple guide to foods to avoid/limit as well as enjoy freely during pregnancy with the goal of protecting your little ones development. I found the bike to be OK, it is a quick read and not complicated in approach however it is not a revolutionary piece of advice or source of information.

This book was an interesting read and was very well written. Dr. Pierre Dukan, seems very well versed in nutrition and diabetes and the book was very well researched.

The book was a quick read (with only 5 chapters) but would be a great book to hold on to and reference. Dukan begins the book by explaining the risks and dangers of obesity and diabetes. He gives the cause of obesity and diabetes in the second chapter. The third chapter focuses on sugar and insulin resistance. Chapter four discusses the development of a fetus' pancreas and how a pregnant mother's diet affects it. Finally, chapter five gives the diet plan for a healthy pregnancy.

I've been pregnant twice and I felt the information was not anything new. The diet Dukan gives for a healthy pregnancy is basically avoid processed foods and sugar. I do think this book would be good for a pregnant woman who has a history of diabetes in her family or has gestational diabetes.

I was interested in the study Dukan encourages pregnant women to participate in at the end of his book. He is hoping to gather even more information through the pregnant women who read his book. I'd definitely be interested in seeing what results he discovers.

I received this book through a goodreads giveaway in exchange for an honest review.
