When I fell in love with Ivy Carter, I fell hard. She had a grip on my heart, and she refused to let go. After I committed a brutal assault, I pushed her away so she could have a life without me, but I’ve ached for her ever since. I assumed in a few months she’d move on, go off to school, and find some guy that actually deserves her. But that’s not what she did. She pushed back. And the more she pushed, the more I wanted to give in. I didn’t, though. I can be a mean SOB when I want to be. It’s six years later now, and I’m out. I just want to see her so I know she’s okay, but one look at her angelic face through the window of where she works and I’m seventeen again, ready to do what it takes to put a smile on her face. I want to go straight and be the man she deserves, but when her brother steals from my criminal uncle, I have no choice but to make a deal with him. I might as well sell my soul; the devil is kinder.

3.5 stars It’s not my kind of romance. Too much criminal activity, too much drama, too much violence. The book was well written and the both MCs were actually likable, but some of their actions didn’t make any sense to me (e.g. selfish brother of the h – WTF?). Behind all that there was a nice love story of two young people who deeply loved and cared for each other. Safety note:
I enjoyed this book so much. I fell in love with Niko from the start. He was a sweet guy acting tough because of who his family was. And again he tried to right a wrong and was sentenced to jail.
Ivy was a girl in love with a guy connected to a mobster/gangster and he was in love with her. But because he went to jail he felt that she deserved better. But in the end he was wrong when two people are meant for each other nothing will stand in their way
This book is about a guy who will do anything for the women he loves and about a sister who will do whatever it takes to protect her brother. And its about a boy and girl who deserves all the happiness they are meant to get

This was a very different read for me. A story of forgiveness and bittersweet redemption.
Ivy was in love with Niko in high school and they often talked about their plans for the future, how they would spend their lives together. Neither of them envisioned that they would be torn apart when Niko is sentenced to six years in prison after the death of a man he assaulted.
Ivy lived with her mother and brother, they had very little money but Ivy had big dreams of eventually leaving home and going away to college to study medicine. That all changed for her when her mother died and she made a promise to take care of her teenage brother.
Niko is not a bad man, he has made some bad choices that have led him to the jail cell he has been sitting in the past six years but he is about to be released. Apart from his brother Vik, the first person he wants to see is Ivy. The girl he has been in love with as long as he can remember. He has no expectations of being welcomed back with open arms, he knows he hurt her, badly.
Ivy is not the sort of person to hold onto hate or grudges, despite what happened when Niko was sentenced, he has always had a place in her heart. However, her brother Jack is her priority now and that is where she needs to focus her time and energy at the moment.
Jack is now old enough to stand on his own two feet but he is very easily lead astray and when he gets himself into trouble one night Ivy finds herself turning to the only man she can trust to help her, Niko.
Niko is a Kosh. The Kosh family are well known in their town and greater area. Yuri Kosh is a man to be feared and his family fortune has been built on crime, Niko was once a part of that. Since Niko was released he has made it clear that he wants to go 'straight.' He is determined to show Ivy that he is a man worthy of her, even if it is just friendship.
Unfortunately, Niko underestimated just how tight his Uncle's hold over him was and despite his plans to go straight he finds himself in a situation where he has no choice.
This story started out as a second chance love story that quickly turned into a thrilling story of survival. Not something I would usually read but one that I enjoyed all the same.
I received an ARC for an honest review. Review by Country Gals BOOK Blog
Niko was just released from prison for a crime he committed 6 years prior. The life he left behind has moved forward without him, but the issues still remain. He wants Ivy back and he wants a life without crime. But when issues arise with the woman he loves and his family, he has to go back to what he always tried to get away from and in the process he may lose his chance at forever. Ivy was heartbroken when Niko ended things with her. She couldn't understand why and now that he's back, she knows she needs to stay far away or risk being hurt all over again. However, when her brother dies the unthinkable and steals from Nikos uncle, a man notoriously evil, she has to ask Niko for help knowing it may complicate her life and his.
Second chance romances are always painful. What happened to these two was something of a horror movie. Niko being incarcerated was an unwanted side affect of his rage when a man murdered his sister by burning her death while alive. Thought this story we watch these two struggle to come to terms with the past and trying to fix their future for the better but to many road blocks continue to stop them. Niko has to go back to the life he's always tried to get away from in order to protect the one woman he's always loved and take a chance at losing her forever. The suspense of what will happen next, will they make it in the end because it sure looked like there was no going back, and where is that opening where Niko can finally get free of his criminal past kept me on my toes and glued to the pages til the very end. This was a wonderfully raw, gritty, unsweetened and beautiful read and I can't wait to read more from this author.
Holy Crap! I had to let my heart settle down before I could write this review. Was not expecting this book to have some major intense scenes and violence in it, but given what the story is about, it works. Story opens up with Niko just getting out of a 6 year prison sentence for severely beating the guy who tortured and killed his sister Claire. Ivy is his long time girlfriend who he broke the relationship off with when he was sent to prison because he didn't want her to be tied down when he wasn't going to be around. Niko's family is into organized crime, dad is in prison for life, uncle is the head kingpin, and his mother left town after his sister was killed and never looked back, so that leaves his brother Vik as his only true family. Niko wants to lead a straight life now that he's out of prison, and wants Ivy back. Drama already, right? Not even close!
Honestly, this isn't usually the type of book I read, I'm more of a hearts and flowers type of girl, and I won't lie, the violent scenes had my heart racing and were hard to read, but in the end, I really liked this book. Given the storyline, the scenes were needed to get the full picture on the family dynamics. I struggled on whether or not to give this book a 4 or 5 star rating, but in the end, if a book keeps you turning page after page to find out what happens, and keeps you completely engrossed in the story, it's worth the 5 stars in my book. Engaging characters, I loved Henry, didn't care so much for Jack, and loved the ending. Well worth the read if you can get past the violence.
Wow, I couldn’t put this one down. It is my first book by Sara Hubbard and I LOVED it!!! I was drawn to this story from the beginning and it just kept getting better and better. It’s darkish, with some violence and breath holding, tearful and intense scenes, balanced with a powerful love story.
I was so sad for Niko, he isn’t meant for the family business, trying to be good which is difficult with the expectations of his uncle. He really was in a sticky situation, no way out. He’s willing to do whatever he needs to do to protect those he loves even at the expense of his own guilt, regret, even his life. He’s sweet and sensitive although rough around the edges he’s has a huge heart, especially for Ivy.
Ivy was left broken hearted when Niko went to prison but her love for him is evident. She’s also willing to do whatever is needed to protect her brother and Niko from the life and fate his family expects, putting her self at risk. She’s such a strong character. Her unconditional love, understanding and forgiveness for him is touching.
The connection between Niko and Ivy is heartwarming and true. I felt it strongly throughout the story. I would love to read more about them. This book had me feeling so many emotions: love, anger, frustration, at times heartbroken. I ignored my family, friends, and chores to finish it and don’t regret it at all! Amazing job Sara Hubbard!! I’m hoping that you will write more about them or even Vik, I’m betting he has an interesting story to tell.
There seems to be something about Sara Hubbard's alpha characters that keeps me coming back. Maybe it's the tough on the outside, teddy bear on the inside personalities they have, or how they are protective of thier girl and family, I'm not too sure exactly, but I like it and Niko was no exception.
"Going straight won't take, no matter how hard you try. We're not cut from that cloth, brother. We were born for this life and we'll die living it."
Niko never stood a chance with the family he was born into. It's a life of crime and one that already took him away from his girl for six years. Now that he's back, Niko wants to be a better man for Ivy, the love of his life.
She tried to wait, but he wouldn't let her. Ivy knew Niko wasn't the monster everybody thought he was. He did what he had to to protect his family. Too bad he wasn't as interested in protecting her young heart as well.
Niko is a man born into the wrong family. He doesn't want this thug life and will try anything to get out of it. The problem is, he knows nothing else and with his kind of relatives, you're in for life. I liked that Niko was softer than his brother or uncle. He had good left in him, along with a fierce love for Ivy.
In the plan to get his girl back, Ivy's family throws a mighty wrench into things and it's all downhill from there. The straight and narrow path gets further and further away from Niko and quickly turns into life and death for both of them.
The book is well written from dual points of view and contains a little bit of everything. Sara Hubbard gives her readers romance, action and a little sexy along the way. While the storyline felt predictable and a little unfinished on Niko's uncle's part, I enjoyed meeting Niko and Ivy, as well as Vik. He may have a story of his own, there's got to be a woman out there to change his lonely views on life.

~ 3.5 Flawed Stars ~
I have to be honest and say this isn’t my favorite Sara Hubbard book. Now with saying that, I did enjoy the story and the characters, it just didn’t WOW me like some of her other books have in the past.
I really didn’t know what to expect from Flawed, except that it was going to be a second chance romance. And that it definitely is. I loved watching Niko and Ivy reconnect after being apart for 6 years.
I thought that the characters and their backstory was well developed and both Niko and Ivy were well written. I felt their pain and just wanted to hug them through most of the story. Niko is a man who was raised in a Mob family and has only ever wanted to go straight and not follow that lifestyle, that is until something tragic happens to his sister and he is sent to jail for 6 years….leaving Ivy behind. Not wanting to put Ivy through that lifestyle he breaks it off and has no contact with her until the day he gets out. Ivy has only ever seen the good in Niko and believed he could make a better life for himself. So she was devastated when Niko pushed her away. Will Ivy be able to forgive Niko for leaving her when she needed him?? Will Niko be able to go straight and live a happy life with Ivy like he has always dreamed??? Read this book to get those answers.
I enjoyed the story line up to about the 70% mark and then for some reason I started to lose interest and things kind of dragged. Then the last 10% of the book took me by surprise. I kind of wish that part would’ve happened sooner in the story and wouldn’t have been as graphic as it was. Usually when I know that a book is on the more graphic side of violence I can accept it better because I am prepared. I wasn’t prepared at all for that and it threw me a little bit. I also felt the ending was slightly rushed because of what happens in the end. Had it happened sooner then we could’ve gotten more of the good between Ivy and Niko.
I would recommend this book to any reader who likes a raw and gritty mobster type story that does actually have a sweet second chance romance built into it. If graphic violence isn’t your thing then I think you might want to pass on this book.
Niko has been in jail for 6 long years his light that he kept with him daily is Ivy. Niko hurt Ivy by breaking up with her when his world changed for him. Niko doesn't think he's good enough for Ivy. Ivy is raising her brother Jack who is grown but always into trouble. One day Jack stole from the wrong man and of course Niko helps and will do anything so Jack and and Ivy don't get hurt. But can Ivy trust Nico? Can Niko have actually changed from his past? Great romance story heart breaking at times but perfect ending. 4/5 stars ****Reviewed for Sweet & Spicy Read provided for a voluntarily Advanced Reader Copy of this book ****
Ivy and Niko deserved a second chance… And that is exactly what they got. On the surface, Niko was a tough guy, born into a tough, criminal family. Ivy was the woman he loved and she loved him right back. When brutal circumstances separated them for six long years, it seemed that was not going to be end. They may be destined to be together but it wasn’t going to be easy… “You aren’t the person you think you are. You aren’t your father. You’re flawed…but so am I.” Ivy and Niko were interesting characters. Niko paid for his moment of anger and despair but he was determined to leave that behind him. The guilt may not let him go completely but he couldn’t believe that Ivy was his past… Ivy still struggled to understand why Niko distanced himself but their opportunity to clear up old hurts was going to be marred by family problems that were going to put any future they may have in jeopardy… Ivy and Niko’s story was lined from start to finish with rocks and hard places and decisions that could have finished their romance at any wrong turn. Niko’s love and responsibility to Ivy meant he was going to help her brother, even if it went against everything he was trying to rebuild in his life. The war between doing right and doing right by someone was one they both shared and struggled with even as they tried to mend their bridges. I liked this story of second chances and conscience. While some of the characters and their actions nudged credibility at times the story captured my attention right to the end. A sweet epilogue made some of the ups and downs worth it as these characters found their rightful place…
Sara Hubbard's "Flawed" is a great standalone read! Niko & Ivy's love story is a tragic tale. They've been blocked at every step along the way. They're definitely meant to be together though. Their chemistry is off the charts! Sara Hubbard writes a sexy combination of Beauty & The Beast and Goodfellas! I can't wait to read more by her.
In the beginning of the book I wasn’t getting into the story but once the 30% mark hit I started to really get into the characters. Ivy was a great heroine, although at times she kept going back and forth with her feelings for Niko and I think she did treat him unfairly because of his decision to push her away. I mean she had to have realized the life he was living and didn’t want her in it. Ivy’s brother (who causes all the drama) is a little snot. But I understand Ivy’s need to protect him and become the martyr so to speak.
Niko was so in love with Ivy that my heart broke for him because he just never gave up even when she started pushing him away. The storyline progressed and it was interesting how the relationship between the two characters developed with everything going on around them.
This was my first read by this author and will be checking out her other books. Excited to see what she has plans for next.
Niko never wanted to be apart of his crime family, and tried to be on the straight and narrow. But when a tragedy struck, he landed in jail for six years. Now out, he cannot stay away from the girl he loved, and chased off, Ivy. He realizes he can never let her go, so he's once again, trying to be the good guy. However, his family is still powerful, and when Ivy's brother steals from his uncle, he finds himself back in the midst of chaos, as he will do anything to protect her. That's all I'm giving because there's a whole lot of suspense, and I don't want to give anything away. I really loved both Niko, and Ivy, even though they were flawed, and frustratingly realistic. Their sizzling chemistry didn't take long to ignite into fiery flames of sexy scene goodness. Sara Hubbard's talented writing style had my heart pounding cover to cover, as she instantly captivated me, and held me hostage until the very last page. Her diabolical twists and turns kept me on my toes, and some even came out of left field which had f-bombs dropping everywhere. My fondest wish is that she writes more about these two in the future, as it doesn't feel as if their story is done to me. (Hint hint) Anyhow, I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND this fast paced, exciting read to all!
And its about a boy and girl who deserves all the happiness they are meant to get
Flawed is stand alone, second chance at love/mafia romance and I will admit, I don't usually gravitate towards the mafia trope but what Sara Hubbard writes, Nerdy Chic must read.
“I’m no good for you,” he says. “I’m never going to be more than a guy that walks that line. I don’t look for trouble, but it finds me and I don’t want you anywhere near me when it does."
Six years ago, Nico committed a crime in a fit of rage over the death of his beautiful sister. That moment changed his life but his only regret is that he lost the woman who held his heart. Knowing that Ivy would wait for him and not wishing that kind of pain on her, he ends their relationship. Now that he's out of jail, he can't help but find out if there is still a chance for something between them, even though he feels he has no right to do so.
Ivy is shocked, to say the least, when Niko walks into the diner where she works. He broke her heart six years ago. No way can she trust him to not do it again. But when her younger brother screws with the wrong people, she has no choice but to rely on Nico for help and those feelings that she tried to keep buried resurface.
I still care deeply about Niko. I still… love him. After all this time. You don’t pick who you love. It’s a feeling deep inside of you that you can’t turn off, no matter how much you might want to. The only choice you have is to act on your feelings or not. And the only person you really hurt by denying it is yourself. Niko is a flawed man.
Nico really isn't a bad guy, which is why I think I loved his character so much. While he may have committed the crime that put him in jail, that's not really the person he is even though his family would love it if he was, especially his uncle. Knowing that the only way to protect Ivy from his uncle is to work for "the family", he willingly gives up his freedom to protect them.
“My heart chose you a long time ago and it still chooses you now,” I say. “Don’t run from me again, Niko.” “If you want me, I’m yours.”
As the story progresses, Ivy and Nico grow closer, while the danger around them increases. When they realize that Niko's uncle isn't the only person they need to worry about, the couple's happiness is put to the ultimate test.
I absolutely loved this. The characters were relatable, likable, and well written and I'm really hoping that Vic, Nico's brother, gets his own story. I could totally see him with his own bad boy hitman book!
Flawed by Sara Hubbard Nikolai Kosh has just been released from prison after 6 years for almost beating a guy to death. Considering the guy he beat up had set his sister on fire while she was alive and tied to a chair which resulted in her death, any other person would have gotten off but because his family are gangsters he is considered a rotten apple. The only person that has ever believed in him has been Ivy. They had planned their future together and marriage was the plan till he went to jail. After being rejected by his own mother he felt letting Ivy go was for the best considering his incarceration. Now out he wants to go straight. The biggest problem is telling his uncle the head of the organization his intentions. When Ivy’s brother has stolen from the uncle Niko now has to ask his uncle not to retaliate but Niko knows there will be price to pay. Ivy has and still loves Niko. Once out he decides to see Ivy but she still is hurt by what he did to her. She wants to be with him but if he breaks her heart again she would not survive. Niko wants Ivy but he knows he has to stay clean and live on the up and up. This will be hard when he owes his uncle and Ivy knows that Niko has to do some things to save her brother. This was an interesting story of two people who loves each other but it seems circumstances keep getting in their way blocking their happiness. A nice story with some twist and turns. I voluntarily read an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. I give this story 4 stars.
Nico is being released from prison, and he knows who will be there to greet him when he gets on the other side of those doors. His brother, Vic, and that's it. His mother cut ties when he went in, and he decided to cut his girl loose, rather than have her give up on him. When he gets up the nerve, he stops in to see Ivy, the girl he has loved forever, but she hasn't forgiven him for how he let her go. When things get a bit crazy, and Ivy's brother gets into some trouble, will the new life that Nico is trying to live go up in smoke? Will he be able to save all of them, or will it be too late?
So this was an ok book. I feel that the romance connections where just not there, I didn't see any chemistry from Nico and Ivy, in fact, it was almost like she was with him for what he did for her and her brother. I found it a bit boring, I give this 3.5 stars.
I have never had the pleasure of reading this author before. I will fix that after this book. I really enjoyed reading this and it is different from what I was expecting. This book as so many feels from the first to the last page. This book has a bit of violence and some dark themes as well.
This review I have held off posting for a bit. Not that is was bad I just wanted to get my thoughts together, without giving anything away. The story starts with Niko being in prison and awaiting release. He talks about a breakup and not wanting to hold back Ivy. Afraid she will resent him if he didn’t let her go. He saw what his mother went through and didn’t want that for Ivy. Niko’s family is not in a good place. They are part of organized crime and his Uncle is the boss. When he gets out he wants to be free and walk on the right side of the law. Though it is rough when everyone is trying to pull him in.
Ivy is taking care of her brother, and she has some resentment and hurt from when Niko cut her out of his life. She tries to tell herself she doesn’t need or want him in her life in anyway shape or form. Her brother and his friend are stupid, and do something stupid and have to suffer the consequences of what happens, and, now let the drama ensue.
I really like the premise of this story as I said it was different. The writing, pace, and flow are good. I loved the people. They were enjoyable to read about and I fell in love with Ivy and Niko. I even liked Niko’s brother Vik. He is a no-nonsense kind of guy. Can Niko be everything that Ivy needs? Can he be there when it falls apart to help her and support her? Ivy has never stopped loving Niko, but can she forgive him and move forward. Join Niko and Ivy on their journey of finding possible love and a second chance at happiness.
This story was very well written. The story flowed and kept me right on the edge of my seat. The characters were well developed and engaging. Flawed starts out with Nico getting out of jail and trying to navigate his life. He is a hot criminal who doesn't want that life anymore. Ivy is the girl he pushed away when he was in prison. She is smart and beautiful but always puts others first. Their story is a sexy sweet second chance romance. There is intrigue, action and a whole lot of steam. I recommend this story with a big 5 stars.
OMG! What a fantastic book. Niko and Ivy's story was amazing. this book did not hold back. It was not your typical, sweet, pretty romance. It was raw , gritty and this book was a complete thrill ride.
Niko is one hard dude. He has lived through more in his life time than on should. When life got hard he leaves behind his love of his live Ivy. When they are reunited. You can feel the hurt Ivy feels, you can also feel her love she still holds for him. This pull that cant be explained. Watching her work this out is pretty amazing.
I loved this book! I think it was that perfect something I needed! Loved the way my heart pumped, the way I flew through the pages to see what was going to happen, and I love the way it all wrapped up. It was not easy at times but this book was so good. #GreatRead One of my favorites this year!
First of all I would like to thank Sara Hubbard for giving me the privilege to read this book... And second it was an all round good book.. There were a couple of errors with the editing but when you were reading it you know what she meant... I really enjoyed it and I was hoping to see if there could be another book for these two to share.. I world love to see Niko and Ivy married? Just throwing it out there.. But anyway Good book..
