Living in the Texas Hill Country, with her four children, Jolene’s life, much like the stories she writes, is filled with faith, family, football, art, laughter, dirty dishes and all of life's wonderful messiness.
Jolene knows that, as much as the world changes, people stay the same. Good and evil. Vow-keepers and heart-breakers. Jolene married a vow-keeper who showed her that long kisses and dancing in the rain never gets old.
I really enjoyed most of this story. The small town world-building was good, I got sucked right in. The heroine is very prickly and standoffish. The hero is a dynamite single dad. The kid isn't too much of a plot moppet. But the hero sends it all the Heck in a Hand-Basket in the second half - being judgmental about choices made by his Baby Mama and the heroine. It. Was. Rage. Inducing.
The author can flat-out write though, and really does a marvelous job with pacing in a shorter category romance word count. I'll definitely pick up another book by her and hope for no rage inducing moments.
Texas Daddy a Lone Star Legacy series by Jolene Navarro. Bull rider Adrian De La Cruz finds out he is a father and the mother just up and leaves the baby not wanting to raise her. Adrian takes on the responsibility of raising, Mia. Mia fell off a horse while barrel racing at age 11. She had a pin put in and doing therapy and on crutches. Adrian doesn't want her to ride again, but Mia is after her dad to let her ride again. Nikki Bergmann returns to town. She is also recovering from a riding accident at the rodeo. Nikki has a secret. Nikki has feelings for Adrian and knows she has to tell Adrian her secret. Nikki knows Adrian is going to hate her once he hears her secret. Nikki and Mia bond. A good read.
I'm not usually a fan of books where a character has a deep dark secret about a child but this one was great. I found myself wanting to keep reading even though I didn't have time. The characters are all well-rounded and super relate-able. I felt very connected to them. Was a great read - I'd recommend it.
Nice breath of fresh air after all the heavy novels I've been reading. It was great to escape to the small Texas Hill Country town of Clear Water, where Navarro has created real characters with real problems, but where the problems are triumphed over and resolved with the help of God and family. The romance was also heart-warming and emotionally satisfying.
Great story, teen parent. Set around rannch, rodeo, horses. Love come slowly because of the lack of trust on both sides. The secrets held tight, but finally confessed. Acceptance, building trust.
