When her plane crashed in the Bermuda Triangle, Danielle Kane thought she was lucky to be alive, but that all changed when she became a virtual prisoner of a brutal aristocratic society hidden from the rest of the world. She made her escape after being sold into slavery, and found herself the hero of a mounting revolution as well as the guardian of a Quetzalcoatl who accompanies her into battle. Ursa Kane is a story of adventure and bravery, but it's more. As Danielle Kane's quest continues, she questions societal conventions, class systems, and the meaning of freedom.
When write I tend to cross genres.(toss everything into the blender and hit frappe)It seems to work for me. However, I never put pen to paper until I have most if not all of my story planned out in my head. I don't even make notes. Along the way the story may shift and change a little and certain characters may stand out more but the main body stays the same. I'm having fun, I hope you are too.
I almost gave up on this story, the first chapter did not inspire, but that would have been a mistake as in the end it is well worth a listen. It develops into a well told entertaining story of a martial arts expect lost in the Bermuda triangle who washes up on a strange island and her adventures. There is intolerance and betrayal, war and conflict, love and tragedy and a flying serpent. The writing is generally excellent after the first chapter. The narration however does not really do the story justice, countless mispronunciations, how can you not pronounce clergy correctly, also a slightly monotone quality takes some getting used to but I did. Overall I liked the characters of Ursa Kane and Morgan and really enjoyed the world Stacy has created. I particularity liked the radio messages at the start of some the chapters and would have liked some of these stories to have been included, there are other characters and incidents that are mentioned that I would have enjoyed hearing more of. Overall a worthwhile listen that with better narration could have been greatly improved. I received a complimentary copy from the author and am leaving a voluntary honest review
I wasn’t too sure about this book in the beginning, but I am glad that I carried on with it.
Danielle’s plane crashes in the Bermuda triangle and she finds herself stuck on an island where time seems to have stood still and women are still second class citizens seen as the property of their husbands or fathers. She soon finds that there are different groups, and that the islands are on the verge of civil war. In her journey across the islands Danielle changes the lives and opinions of nearly everyone she meets.
I enjoyed the book, and was sad that it ended at the point that it did, as I would have liked to have seen more of her life.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request, and have voluntarily left this review. Her life may not have been perfect, but it was better than after she woke up on an island in the Bermuda Triangle. Danielle Kane, a martial arts expert, plane crashed on her way to a convention. Only she survived to wake up in a world without technology or women's rights, and a civil war is about to happen. Danielle struggles to deal with her new world, but she does and very well. Interesting characters, suspense and lots of action will keep you listen until the very end. The perfect listen for a road trip.
Ursa Kane is a great book! The main character is one of the few true warrior princesses types that has worked for me, the plot was gripping and it had a satisfying conclusion. I will be reading this one again.
I got this book as a free giveaway on goodreads a while ago. It just took me a while to get around to reading it. The story was altogether good and entertaining. I found myself wanting to know what happened next at the end of almost every chapter. However I feel that there are some criticisms I could give. I will start I guess with the spelling and grammar errors sprinkled throughout the book. Now I know it's an advance reader copy but I had to keep reminding myself of that. One word in particular that showed up a few times in the first half of the book was "leavening". I assume it meant to say "leaving" each time and my brain auto-corrected for it but it still bugged me a little. I also felt the the story progressed really quickly through the first half of the book, but then slowed to a crawl as soon as the war started. I feel like we could have spent more time in the disliked half of the island to prove to us more why we are not supposed to like it there. I'm not saying that I would have chosen that side, obviously they were in the wrong, but it really only showed them as pompous and set in there ways with emphasis on a few characters (ie Max and his son) who we should really hate. I was a little disappointed with the ending though. *Spoiler Alert* I was disappointed that our main character was not the one to bring down the big bad guy. We spent the whole story going "gosh I hope she gets him" and then she gets injured and has to send someone else to finish the job. I was left with an unfulfilled feeling when it was all over. However, like I said before, the story itself was good. Stacy Bender showed off her great imagination and created something that kept me reading. So thank you.
First let me start with DO NOT listen to the audio for this book, its awful. The narration is in my top 5 worst narrations of all time. When not reading dialog, the narrator sounded very flat and lifeless. I listened at a slightly faster speed and she sounded like one of those computer generated voices with those awkward breaks in sentences that make no sense.
As far as the book, I definitely liked it. It has lots of action and the plot moves along at a good pace and there a few likable characters and humorous moments, but I never felt a connection to or any sort of investment in the main character or the world. Ursa Kane has no arc or growth throughout the book, she feels very flat as a character and I didn't care if she lived or died. There was a lot of telling and not showing throughout this book and the severe lack of world building and development really limited the story and my enjoyment of it. This felt very much like a debut novel and its not one I see myself rereading.
I thought this was an entertaining book, though probably not one I would read again. I enjoyed seeing a strong female lead character, and I was touched (and affected, though I won't give spoilers) by her relationship with Morgan. What made me give a three-star rating instead of a four-star rating was the narration. I found a lot of the mispronunciations of certain words or forms of words distracting. For instance, the word "bow" was used in the books as in "to bend from one's waist," but the narrator pronounced it as in "to tie a bow." There were several instances like that that I took away from my enjoyment of the book. But overall, it is an entertaining story.
This was an excellent book. The characters were well developed as was the story that brought them together. There was a wonderful flow throughout the book and the ending was very well done. . When I finished this book and reflected back on everything. I thought to myself, now this would make for a really great movie. . After all...who knows what happens to all those who disappear in the Bermuda Triangle....
Stacy Bender's Ursa Kane is my favorite of her books to date. The characters are heroic yet flawed enough to be believable; the writing is lively and exciting, and the story is compelling. I found it difficult to put down, and I was completely lost in the characters and plot.
What a great read! I've always wondered where the people went when they disappeared in the Burmuda Triangle. :) If you love action, a bit of history and sci-fi, you will love this book. I love Munchkin. He wasnt a main character but he added a nice touch to the story.
Ursa Kane is a book that I really didn't think I would like. I LOVED it! It has romance, comedy, seriousness, you name it you got it. I would recommend this book to anyone.
