Gradient Knits is a must have book for knitters..

First of all the colour in this beauty is amazing...and that is what gradient is all about.

Ombre, colour grouping and even how to create your own gradient project is included.

Even if you are a beginner, this book shows you how. There is a section on stitches and the demonstration photographs are easy to follow and understand, .and then there are the the projects... from hats, cowls and blankets will ensure that you will always feel snuggly, all in full beautiful colour.

Although there is an author to this book, there are 6  designers, all using there skill and expertise that bring together a book full of inspiration, ideas and ..oh did I mention colour??

from getting started to finishing your project this book covers it all. It's like having your own private teacher in the room.

beautifully presented
It tries to teach beginners to knit starting with simple hats and shawls and going on to socks.
Sounds like a good idea. Some clever people could make it work. I am yet to meet those people.
I am hoping this book will get me making socks successfully.

Nice, simple introduction to some basic as well as more advanced techniques, and one I hadn't heard of before: thrumming. A good, straightforward selection of patterns to practice each technique. Recommended for newer knitters (but not total beginners) that are quite comfortable with knit and purl and want to test out their skills with something a little more challenging.

Not impressed.

The patterns do not take advantage of the amazing plumage of gradient yarns on the marketplace; they simply use different colors. For example, the thrummed mittens use gradient fiber, and they are cute, but they really do not belong. Photographs of the projects are either incomplete (I don't know what the scarf looks like when done), or bewildering (the garter-stitch-background cowl is described as stockinette). A knitter using a collection of mini-skeins needs more than spit-splicing as a joining technique, but none other is given. Etc. The reader would do better with a basic knitting-instruction book and a browse through the gradient patterns on Ravelry.

I gave the book two stars because of the two standout patterns by the always-inventive Jane Dupuis, a/k/a SpillyJane. Her socks and mittens are wonderful. Always.

Otherwise - Not impressed, and not essential.

Sorry, I was disappointed. The projects are basic, which is fine, but the color usage is also very basic!!! I was at first excited thinking that the author, whose other books I generally like, would really get creative with manipulating all these fantastic color options we have available now. But, no. (Hey, where are the Noro yarns?) I didn't like that the yarns used for each of the projects are listed in the back of the book, instead of within the pattern. The photography is nice.

I have officially added this to my Amazon Wish List, because each and every pattern within is a project or a technique I would like to attempt. I'm going to complete the first pattern before returning it to the library. I have the yarn. I now have the appropriate needles. I just need to get started...

This book is great introduction to a broad array of colorwork techniques. It has very clear instructions on everything from thrums to fair isle. The included patterns are lovely.

I really enjoyed this book. It introduced me to color variance knitting that is very popular, but that I had avoided since I wasn't sure what the yarn would do. Seeing these gradient color projects in the photographs makes me want to try something new very soon. The instructions and accompanying pictures are excellent help and very easy to understand.
