What in the name of holy fuck did I just read?
I'm wondering if it's because I inhaled, not read, this story that I'm completely missing something... you know, like my marbles maybe?
Fair warning, this read is not just a book... it's an experience.
A brilliant, dark, twisty, chock-full-o-mind-fuckery, and you're reading it with only one eye open kinda experience. And it was awesome!
The story was so complex, layered, raw & painfully revealing, whilst at the same time it cleverly never actually gave anything away until it was time.
Each time I patted myself on the back, thinking I'd finally figured something out... NOPE! Wrong answer, try again, but thanks for playing.
Turns out, I had no fucking clue what was actually happening. My imagination so stimulated & engrossed in the plot & the players, I couldn't see the forest for the trees.
I was completely trapped in the emotional blender with Tia & Brax, and Leigh had the setting stuck on full speed.
Most times, I didn't know if I wanted to sob uncontrollably, throw up with epic repulsion, issue debilitating throat-punches to the bad guys, scream till my lungs gave out or simply keep changing the batteries in my vibrator. So naturally, I ended up doing a little of all of the above.
So, now that I'm finished, I'm sitting here wondering WTF is wrong with me... (please don't answer that, it's rhetorical...) because I loved every single exposed, depraved, filthy, dark, confusing & exhausting minute of this debut novel from Leigh Christopher.
I'm off now to sit at the bottom of a scalding hot shower & drink bourbon straight from the bottle... these two and their story are going to stay with me for a while.
*I was provided an ARC of this book, with no expectation on the part of the author that they would receive a positive review in exchange. My review reflects my genuine opinion of this book.*
