I firmly believe that the author doesn't want you to like Lainey. Despite her negativity and somewhat selfish behavior I respected her. The author did a good job of creating a complicated character. Her history as well as her future drives her. Palle by contrast was a very naive character. His sweetness and interactions were believable and not overdone. I appreciated that he recognized his strengths and weaknesses. The author did a good job creating believable main characters. There really aren't much in the way of supporting characters besides Palle's mom.
Plot
A very realistic feeling plot that is both intriguing, but also entertaining. This is a steady book that doesn't get too slow to lose the readers interest. Lainey's history as an immigrant added an extra complexity that was welcome. I appreciated that her choices hurt her as much as helped her. In real life this is very much the case. It as also a different romance then I'm used to with Palle being the sweetie and Lainey the domineering personality. It was refreshing. Their romance and sensual scenes were sweet and endearing. Overall
I loved the romance, the building to it. It was well written and easy to read. I appreciate the characters didn't rush into anything and that the author waited. It was a very enjoyable romance. Not to mention the author did a great job playing to the setting.
That being said what I didn't like was the ending. Without ruining anything that isn't in the summary, Lainey is robbed by her manager. How they get the money back is just a little too convenient for my book. The problem steamed from how easy it was. As terrible as it is I wanted Lainey to struggle to get her money back but it just fell to a coincidence. Furthermore the resulting ending felt rushed. I did enjoy the very last chapter - that was a nice touch - but the lead up just kind of resolved everything and shoved you over the cliff to the end in one chapter.

Great characters, interesting plot, and a sweet contemporary romance that just I felt had too much of a rushed ending to truly be a satisfying read. If you don't want more information after they get together and are a 'just get to the happily ever after already' this book is for you!
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. More reviews at creatingworldswithwords.wordpress.com.
This was an interesting book and a different spin on a typical romance. Lainey Cartwright is a model living in a world where money and beauty are the only real currency. Her life takes an unexpected turn when she walks in on her boyfriend and manager having sex. She also finds out that the extent of their deception goes beyond the physical. Simply put, they're using her. So needless to say, Lainey is a bit upset about all of this and flees, only to run into Palle, a sweet and slightly nerdy guy who really just wants to help. There were many different things about this story that I found interesting. Mainly the dynamic between Lainey and Palle. In many of the romances I've read, the male is the very clear dominant. The alpha. Not so much in this case. It was oddly refreshing for someone who really enjoys a good strong male lead. Lainey was a frustrating character and very difficult to like. And while she paid the price for many of her decisions, I had some trouble rooting for her at times. She did eventually end up growing on me and overall, this was a very satisfying read. As an avid lover of contemporary romance, this book certainly hit the mark and was a very worthy way to spend a day. A very nice read!
I won this book from Goodreads Giveaways. It was a wonderful story about two people who had things happen in their lives that brought them together. You have Lainey who is a supermodel in Denmark for a Fashion Week. She is having a really bad time at the show, they lost her dress for the final walk and she just was getting just fed up with everything. When she goes to look for her manager and finds him with her boyfriend in a compromising position it was to much. She runs and doesn't want to look back she wants to hide. Then you met Palle his mom was a hippie and is now an a Financial Advisor and worth a lot and he doesn't always agree. She runs into Lainey outside the convention center in just her silk robe and she is cold, he offers her help. She wants to hide and can't go back to his apartment and she can't go back to her hotel. He helps her find herself again but she didn't tell him everything about herself. But in the end they find love and she finds her way and make things good for the others. I loved the story about redoing ones self to find a better way.
Lainey Cartwright is a top model who came from humble beginnings. She has come to the point where she is just living life in an automatic gear. She does not think about it but she is not really happy. Everything is about making money. Lainey is in Copenhagen for a show and things start to go wrong. She walks in on her boy friend and manager to find the two having sex and talking about her and how they are using her. She runs out into the cold February night with hardly anything on and Palle is a guy going by on a bike who lives just down the street. He stops to help and then tries to help. He teaches her in his way without even realizing it how to look at life a different way and make some changes in her future.A good look at life and and where ta chance meeting between two strangers can take you,
'The beauty and the nerd': that is the way I described the book to others. I loved it. From the hilarious beginning to all the misunderstandings between the supermodel and her rescuer. It was fun to read and the end of the book was OK. I liked it. I am quite surprised this is a debut: I would have thought Sara-Lisa would have written other books already. I am looking forward to a new book.
