Flynn Kazakov, the goalie for the New Orleans Rage has his turn with "The Cup" in his home town after winning the championship game. Flynn finds himself wondering what to expect from life next since he's met his lifelong goal and then Gillie Pike shows up. The only woman he's ever loved even if he did have to walk away from her. Gillie's life has not been the same since Flynn left her, not that she blames him, but she's given up her bad girl ways to run a Jazz club in Texas. But old trouble shows up with a threat to Flynn and she has to warn him even if he breaks her heart all over again. Great pace to this story with just enough action, witty banter, sexy times and humor to keep me interested from the start to the end. 4 stars

Gillie Pike and the Stanley Cup together makes winning the championship game so much sweeter for goalie Flynn Kazakov. But where Gillie goes, trouble soon follows. Even though she is trying to start over and live a new life, old ghosts still haunt her and force her to do things she's not ready to. Even having good intentions seem to go against her. Of course getting the B-Squad involved is a given and what follows is an action packed adventure with a good dose of romance and a happily ever after.

I received an Advanced Reader's Copy for voluntary review consideration.

Strap yourself in for a hot skate on thin ice!

“Buy a girl a beer?”
“I don’t think that’s a good idea.” It wasn’t even in the same hemisphere as a good idea.
Gillie stepped closer and raised herself up to her tiptoes, brushing her tits across his chest and bringing her full lips within kissing distance of his earlobe. “From what I remember you liked bad ideas.”

Blade by Avery Flynn is an entertaining, sizzling romance. The story is set in the author’s B-Squad world, but it’s not necessary to have read the previous books in the series to fully appreciate the tale although fans of the series will recognize previous favorite characters.

The story is a second chance romance between Flynn Kazakov, a hockey goalie for the New Orleans Rage, his hometown team, and Gillie Pike, a retired cat burglar who now owns a jazz club in Texas. Flynn broke her heart three years ago when he walked away from their relationship after discovering that she made her living via her sticky-fingers. Flynn is at the pinnacle of his career and Gillie has turned over a new leaf since then, but the two haven’t been in touch since their breakup.

Now, Gillie’s nightclub is failing and she’s desperate to keep it going. An old friend from her thieving days offers her a way to save her nightclub, but his proposition requires that she frame Flynn for the theft of the championship game’s cup. While Gillie was initially going to refuse the job, she experiences second thoughts and accepts. Strap yourself in as the two engage in a hot skate on thin ice.

Neither Flynn nor Gillie has been the same since their relationship ended. Their chemistry is off the charts but there’s much in the trust department that the couple must navigate if they aim to pair up again. I thoroughly enjoyed their witty banter and sexy times, but will good intentions be sufficient for the two to come out on top?

Blade is a short, fun and exciting action-packed adventure – perfect to dive into when you crave a quick escape.

I totally loved Blade by Avery Flynn. This is a short story that is part of the Hockey anthology collection, Hot on Ice. This is Flynn Kazakov’s story and his turn for a day with the Stanley Cup which was won by the New Orleans Rage. Flynn plans to celebrate with his hometown of Snow Bay, Michigan. Gillie Pike loved Flynn when he lived in Dallas but ruined any future they had when he gave her an alibi to save her from being arrested. Gillian was a burglar, stealing for an organization, earning money to pay for college. After three years of being clean she’s approached to steal the Cup while in Flynn’s possession and hiding it in his home. She agrees but only so she can warn Flynn as payback for saving her. Arriving in Flynn’s hometown, he is more than a little wary of Gillie and her story. However, the attraction and chemistry between these two is amazing. The heat just sizzles when they are near one another. Ms. Flynn wrote an amazing story allowing these two to have a second chance and introduce the readers to her B-Squad series.

This was a wonderful, sexy, and entertaining story with very likeable and authentic characters that you want to support and hope they can find for that happy ending. The characters were well written with complex characteristics. The sex scenes were amazing. The story line was riveting and kept my attention to the very end. I enjoyed reading this book and had trouble putting this book down, reading it in one day. I highly recommend this book to other readers.

This second chance romance is part of the B-Squad world. Former thief turned Jazz club owner, Gillie Pike, and bad boy goalie, Flynn Kazakov, separated on bad terms years ago, breaking both their hearts. Now Gillie has been offered a job to frame Flynn with the theft of the Cup. When Gillie shows up out of the blue to tell Flynn she is there to help him, he finds it hard to believe. But he can't deny that he is still in love with her so he gives her a chance. But can he trust his best friends sister after all she put him thru? Gillie is strong, and stubborn and determined to protect Flynn. When things get out of her control, they have to call in the B-Squad which includes her brother, Marcus. This is an exciting, exhilarating and very hot and sexy story. For a quick read, it has everything I look for in a story and is very satisfying. I love the B-Squad series and it set up the next book beautifully. I can't wait for more of the B-Squad!

This novella was part of Hot on Ice Anthology and was my first book from this author. I really enjoyed Blade, a second chance romance starting with a plot to steal the cup and ruin Flinn’s life so Gillie has the chance to pay her debt and see again the man who left her behind and broke her heart but still is under her skin. At first the hostility from both sides shows how Gillies and Flinn didn’t want let go the resentment but the connection is too strong for them ignore it and soon found out they never stop loving each other.

He's a Stanley Cup winning goalie. She's a blues bar owner who used to be a high end thief. They come from different worlds but they have a history ... and they have old debts to settle.
I loved this story. It's steamy a steamy part romance, part suspense story that shares supporting characters with Flynn's well established B-Squad series and, like those stories, the women are sexy, sassy, capable and not about to be anybody's doormat and the men like them exactly that way.
An entertaining afternoon's read.

Flynn is quite honest about his faults, "I'll warn you now," he said. "I'm an asshole. I'm a little bit crazy. I'm stubborn. I steal the covers. Most of the time I forget to put the toilet seat down..." I lived this book, I loved that Gillie could sometimes outsmart Flynn

The B-Squad series just keeps getting better and this novella shows why it's a series you should not miss.

What do you get when you take one uber hot hockey player and pair him with his ex and former thief to stop a career ending heist? You get sparks, heat, lies, old feeling sneaking back, snark plus plenty of twists to keep you glued to the pages till you are done.

Flynn and Gilile have history and that history makes things more complicated when Gillie is offered one more job....Flynn. When the job goes from settling the score with an old flame to fighting for their lives things go from easy to hard. But then again, it's never been easy with these two.

Throw in someone with a grudge, a brother and best friend who is in the dark about Gillie's & Flynn's past, the Stanley Cup and a whole lotta hot lovin and you have another winner from Avery Flynn.

I can't believe I have not read any of the B-Squad books before. I loved Flynn and Gillie. They are so perfect for each other. Even if they think they are not. Gillie was a retired thief who got her heart broke before by Flynn. She gets hired to frame Flynn. She takes the job to worn Flynn. But they both don't realize how much they do love each other. Action packed both in the bedroom and on the streets. Loved it.

life is full of regrets and questions. that applies to Gillie and Flynn. just having won the Stanley Cup, Flynn knows he's missing something and doesn't quite know what it is. seeing Gillie in his home town well that's not what he expected.

She knows seeing him again will hurt. He's the only man she's loved and now she has to warn him about what's to come.

Mystery second chances and danger. this book was good and I enjoyed it.

This is book three in the B-Squad series

Meet the sexy but bad girl Gillie Pike. Gillie has now gone straight. However there's someone with a lot of money, who really wants to bring Gillie out of retirement. They want Gillie to steal the Cup and make sure it's only found in the superstar goalie's Flynn Kazakov's possession. Flynn is better known as Crazy-kov for a reason. There's nothing makes Flynn more nuts than his best friend's crazy and most sexiest little sister. Flynn's best friend's sister is the one who swears that she's only there to help him and she's the only person who can keep Flynn out of jail and on the ice where he belongs.

Avery Flynn is a brilliant author and reading this book i'm sure to be reading more of her books. 5* book

Blade: Part of the B-Squad series, Marko's sister is back to her old con artist tricks but not by choice. Someone has it out for Flynn, best goalie in hockey, and Gillie needs to help him. Full of bedroom antics and action on the tarmac, Avery Flynn never disappoints with her suspenseful romance.

Second Chance romance and a little action on the side. Great addition to the B Squad books by Avery Flynn. We get to meet Flynn Kazakov, the goalie with the Cajun Rage Hockey team. His day with the cup was full of adventure as he had to team up with a former lover to keep the cup from getting stolen. Gillie Pike, said lover, and sister of Marko (we met him in earlier B Squad books) has a past that sneaks up on her and sends her straight back to Flynn, the man who broke her heart before.

Enjoyable, quick and a little suspense. Some famous Flynn (the writer not he character, although...) snark and a little sexy sexy, make this B-Squad book a great Saturday morning read.

Genre: Romance - Sports, Second-chance, suspense, best friend's sisters
Stand-Alone: Yes
Part of a Series: Yes - Book 2.5 of the B Squad
POV: Mostly Flynn and Gillie
Steam-level: A little bit melty
4.5/5

This was quite a fun book. It was quick paced and kept me guessing. I love romantic suspense books and I was glad that there were so many twists and turns throughout. Although my first book by Avery Flynn, definitely not my last. Avery Flynn shows that she's earned her reputation as a great writer with this story.

I read this as part of the Hot on Ice Hockey Anthology.
