Bray and Hunter, separated from their teammates, have crash-landed onto an unknown planet. Their first encounter with the inhabitants of this strange, new world is not what they expected. The Avanti finally meet a foe they aren’t sure they want to engage in battle, much to the amusement of the men who come to investigate the crash. Instinct drives them to trust the men who offer them sanctuary and they make their way to the city, where strange new beasts and political intrigue await them. Despite settling onto the new world and finding it easy to form new friendships, they still possess a driving need to find the other Avanti. When the political intrigue on Landran tries to claim a new victim, Hunter and Bray rush to their new friends’ aid. As they lend their brains and brawn to the Landrans it takes them on an adventure they never imagined, and hopefully towards the remaining Avanti.
Please note: This story takes place at the same time as events from Corin’s Chance, the first book in the Avanti series. Like Delphini: Damage Control, it focuses on the events from the perspective of another Avanti pairing— Bray and Hunter. It can be read at any point after Corin’s Chance.
It was awesome to get to know both Bray and Hunter better. We already knew who Hunter will end up with, but this book (I believe) gives us our first clue on Bray's mate - and if what I think is true, I'm VERY excited!
This was very much a connecting story meant to fill in information hinted at in previous books, and help set the stage for future ones. It is written so that it could be read as a stand-alone, but I think that it definitely would leave more questions than it answered.
One thing that I found to be a bit distracting with this book was that the dialogue felt a bit stilted. I know that the Avanti have a very easy way with one another, and that Kastain is very open to the team when they meet after the events of this book, but they all seemed to trust one another implicitly a little too easily without any real reason behind it. I thought that the other teams were more realistically treated when they first came into contact with the Landran's.
A really imaginative, compelling story that could’ve been better edited!
Proofreading probably should include intensive checks for proper grammar, use of verb tenses, plural/singular subjects or objects, descriptive language/literary devices, and so forth. Running a basic check for misspellings, perhaps punctuation, too, won’t eliminate the mistakes that turns a potentially wonderful story into an okay one that contains cringe-worthy errors that might have been avoided given a much better proofreader who susses out ALL errors rather than only misspelled words (that weren’t always the right choice in cases of homonyms and that altogether annoying auto-correct). The mistakes were distracting and eventually so annoying I had to walk away from the book to calm down. I actually reread other books I enjoyed that weren’t inundated with irritating mistakes and typos, then went back to book eight of the Avanti Chronicles. It took me two extra days, but so did finally finish.
This was Brandon and Hunter’s tale of the time they were separated from their Avanti teammates, until they were reunited with each other and their individual new friends from various clans and families. Hunter has an unresolved mutual attraction with Tir, Corin’s brother-in-law who is the Chieftain of the Derin Clan. Braydon meets and becomes equally conflicted about Leo, new to his role as Chieftain to Winsteria, formerly a disputed territory of Nestor (now deceased) and power-hungry, wicked Martellon, who is on the outs with King Kastain and other less contentious, more reasonable clan chieftains. The interactive meetings and networking of the Avanti warriors with the different resident clans, their leaders, and their King combined with the intriguing concept of true mates made for a sweet yet tension-filled romance for each Avanti warrior and their individual true mate, spanning the series which gave each couple their own book. This book merely laid the background of how Bray and Hunter survived and thrived after they landed on this neutral planet, and introduced their men as well as the different problems each pair are faced with, because heaven forbid anyone getting away with having a peaceful, perfectly uneventful true mate relationship, mating, and a happy-ever-after! As stated earlier, it’s a good story filled with wondrous imagery and events, but its many, many unnecessary, often stupid typos and errors were so disappointing, and ruined it for me. Three stars.
Original review on Molly Lolly Four and a half stars! I love this series and this story is no exception. I loved getting to see how Hunter and Bray fared in the pod on the way to Landran. Their landing was far better than the other two duos. I liked seeing how Bray and Hunter interacted with Kastain right from the beginning. You could see the mutual trust and respect they all had right from the start. It was wonderful getting more background for both Bray and Hunter. I’m eager to see more of them as they get their own stories and see how some of their history gets revealed and issues get resolved. Hunter’s awe at the refrinti was sweet. You could tell he respected the animals immediately. I loved getting to see more of the beasts and description of the world in this story. Each story in the series brings a richer and more vast world Ms. Walker created. We get a bit more political background and see how that groundwork was laid at the beginning of everything going on in the series. All of the insight you get and pieces laid out make this series so much richer. I can’t wait to read Hunter and Bray’s stories to see how the overall series arc continues and eventually gets wrapped up.
Like I said a lot of time already, this author knows how to write and makes u fall in love with her chars. Sure, she uses too many words, but u don't get bored while reading.
In this book we read about the time when Bray and Hunter crashed on the planet. They don't know if their friends are alive and find themselves in a territory they aren't familiar with. Luckily for them, Kastain and his master of arms, Antares, find them and take them to the Capital. There, they spend some time starting to know this new planet and country and helping their new friends with training the guards and protecting their city, and then finally meeting again the other Avanti.
This is something we alredy knew about, or to better say, the ppl who read the other books already know what's gonna happen and how, so this book wasn't something new.
3.5 stars for this reason, bcs also if I liked to see Hunter and Bray's first meeting with Kastain and the others, this was a book that I think we didn't really need.
3.5 stars. Again, I seem to say that for the short story, too long. Way too long for what it was. The book is about the journey of hunter and bray. I'm pretty sure ot was the occasion for the author to introduce us to some of new characters. In previous book, when they return to the city they went visit some friend they have met... but I didnt see any friend met outside of the castle in that book. They didnt resolve any mystery, just found more problem and save them. So like I say, this book was the opportunity to introduce some character for the next book. Because I start it already and I have doubts... it could be him or her or ....
Hunter and Brah land safely and are taken in by King Kastain. As they become a part of the a royal Landran court Hunter and Bray help improve the military force of the king. They continue the search for their lost teammates. This book is way out of order. Readers of this series already know much of what has happened beyond the end of this book. It should have been the third book in the series.
Such an amazing author..I'm enjoying the series so much. Really appreciate that each character has their own book so that we can really get to know their background stories better..and yet each book brings it back to the main story..Walker doesnt miss a beat in this series..Really hope it continues with a 10 book story on Chance and Kit Kit. xoxox
From start to finish, this was a fun, fast read. I can't wait for the next book in the series. I want to see how Hunter finally lands his man. It was a great look deeper into the two guys we had not yet become familiar with as main characters.
This book is about some of the important things in life like, family, love friendship, and good times. Love this author's writing style, this is a great book.
I'm so glad we got this book telling us of what happened when Bray and Hunter crash landed after escaping the Delphini ship they were on. We know these two aren't romantically involved, so there is NO sex in this! Yes, that's right, NO SEX! This not affect the story in any way, shape or form though, instead it concentrates on the friendship, camaraderie of these two during what is quite an intense and terrifying time for them. There were many moments that I couldn't help but burst out laughing at their shenanigans, at one point I even had tears through laughing! This really was another superbly written instalment of an absolutely fantastic series and filled in the gap of what happened to them prior to meeting up with the other team members perfectly!
Love this series. We get to see through the eyes of Hunter and Bray from the escape from the Delphini to finding their friends Bray has some very embarrassing moments that will make you laugh. The friendship of these two get stronger and they make some new friends and allies while looking for their missing team mates .Can’t wait for the next book
Another great installment to the Avanti series.....Loved reading how Bray and Hunter ended up with King Kastain and how they found their fellow team members.
