Well, I've not seen the film yet, but my daughter will enjoy it. I did watch the original during its debut month in a Detroit movie theatre.

I don't recall the ending being as nonsensical - but it was many years ago.

Unfortunately as much as I loved the movie, the novel was only really enjoyable because I could imagine the movie scenes playing out as I read it. If I had read the novel on it's own, because it's lacking in emotion and description I really wouldn't have been able to get a clear cut picture of the characters or their personalities. I understand that it's a junior novel, but that being said I've read plenty of junior novels that don't have this problem at all. Unfortunately this book was just lacking, which is a real disappointment.

Slight spoilers ahead, though not really if you've seen the movie/have no plans to see the movie

On another note, I was extremely upset to see the "girlfriend problems?" question omitted from the book. It being a junior novel is really no excuse as there's also a joke make towards what people consider 'pedo vans' and implications that one character had sent out nude photos of another girl. If you can include these things, I don't see why you would feel the need to take out what's considered an important glimpse into Trini's characterisation and what the future may hold for the character. She's celebrated as the first LGBT superhero on the big screen, and yet any inkling of this isn't present in the novel.
Another problem I had was the implied, maybe not so, kiss between Kim and Jason. The scene was cut from the movie for good reason, and even if it is just Kim's line of "I kind of want to be the girl who kisses you right now..." it's unflattering towards her character.
My last issue is more personal than and issu with the novel itself, and that is the fact that Billy doesn't get to Morph before the rest of the team. That was seen as a pivotal moment to many fans, especially seeing as Billy is the first Autistic superhero, and having it cut from the book was especially disappointing.

TLDR; I'm passionate about the new power rangers movie and had a couple of issues with this novel.

This is a very long book and you need a lot of time to read it. It might be too long if you don’t have much time. But it is a very great book. It's about 5 teenagers who found magic crystals that could change them into power rangers. I was very surprised how fast I actually could read this book because it was quite a long book. I found this book by scrolling through a list of books. When I saw this book I knew the serie from tv so I thought let's read it. My favorite part of the book was the part when they defeated the evil guy. That was really exciting. It was sometimes difficult to understand what was going on because they switch very often from the writer to the eyes of the characters. But for the rest it is a very great book and I would really recommend it to my friends.

Felt like a total carbon copy of the movie. Usually film novels add extra content and elements than that in the movie, thus enhancing the storyline. But this had none of that. Plus it was way too short too. And disappointingly written at an elementary level. Bough I get it this is partially a children's movie. But let's be honest though, today's kids didn't grow up watching Mighty Morphin Power Rangers in the tv screen like my generation did. This move is more nostalgia to my generation than anything it might be to today's kids. So I'd expect a film novel written towards us the rightful fans.

As a kid growing up in the 90s, I was obsessed with The Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers. I used to sit in front of the TV on a Saturday morning, enthralled by the brightly coloured outfits, the wonderfully original monster of the week creatures and the stories. It was a great show, and though I stopped following after the 4th season (Power Rangers Zeo), I have regularly watched the original Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers movie from 1995. I find it’s one of those films that takes me back to a time when life wasn’t so serious, and my responsibilities were minimal (because I was 10!).

When it was announced that there was going to be a Power Rangers reboot, I must admit I was excited. I had high hopes for the new film, and while I was looking forward to a new take, I hoped it would capture the spirit of the original. I was not disappointed, and now, with the novelisation, I have been able to relive the story in a new way.

Overall, the novelisation of Power Rangers is a marvellous read for anyone who enjoyed the movie or is a fan of the Power Rangers franchise.

With that said, I am giving this novelisation 7/10

Not a bad read. Irvine's prose is very crisp, and the script he's adapting is snappy and entertaining. But while he doesn't fall into one of the two major traps of jr novelizations in that he doesn't write down to the reader (to the point where some darker aspects of the script and moments of frank humor remain intact in a format where they'd usually be censored), he does fall into the other of over-condensing the material to the point where anything that isn't dialogue is basically a breezy synopsis. There's entire sequences which are squished down to 3 sentence paragraphs and the big 3rd act climax runs just a few pages long. If I had known this was a jr novelization and not a full adaptation, I probably wouldn't have picked it up as I ultimately found it frustrating in the same ways I always have with this format. Writing to kids should never mean underwriting.

Didn't really go into this one with high expectations.. nonetheless was hoping for more than this 'movie novel' gave. Stuck to the script almost completely and I would've liked some more background information than we've seen on the screen. Also I understand that this is a novel for a younger age demographic, but the writing was super simplistic and made the story feel very rushed... With all that said, I still love he power rangers and appreciate diving into their world through this book.

I'm one big defender of the movie, since it gave me exactly what I wanted from a movie about Power Rangers.

I don't share the same feelings towards this adaptation. Most events are told in a very strange way, making it quite confusing, some of the best scenes of the movie are just gone and, worse of all, we don't get an inside to the character's feelings. One of the ways a novelization can improve on a movie is with internal dialogue, here it's next to non existant.

In the end, this book is not a hill I choose to die on. Better stick to the movie.

Sticks quite close to the movie (which is good) and I can sometimes hear the character saying the lines of the book.
The movie swears but the book cuts this and some of the borderline inappropriate things said out; however it doesn't cut out the blasphemy.
It does miss out one part of the movie that I thought was actually quite important .

But it does have short chapters and the book itself isn't too long. Enjoy.

Power Rangers (2017) is overall a great movie, that deserves more attention and appreciation. The book does a good job of taking you through the movie. I recommend watching the movie first as a text only novel can only do so much to compensate for the lack of visuals, and Power Rangers (2017) is an extremely visual movie. The novel begins to drag when you get to the megazord fight with Goldar, however the book is a faithful companion to the movie.

I read this because of pure nostalgia and it wasn't bad but it wasn't amazing either. I felt like something was missing even though power rangers in it's self is cheesy. I liked certain parts of it but not the whole thing. My mind might change when I view the whole film though.

Completely omitted "Girlfriend problems?" and removing part of the (2017) Trini's character even it was a huge deal especially with how it was properly handled in the film.

Shallowed Kim's character with the comment of her wanting to kiss Jason when that was removed from the final product of the film for good reason because it felt out of place during the screen test and the director felt it was better to have it removed. Wasn't necessary to have in the novel.

Where was Billy's morph?! That was one of the triggering points for the team to realize they have the potential and might possibly love the idea of being a Power Ranger and Billy morphing fully for the first time gave them that hope.

I get it's a junior novel, but these three main issues weren't necessary.

So much fun!

This was super fun to read! I normally wouldn't read a novelization before I see the film but I couldn't help myself cause I was getting major nostalgia from just reading the sample of this on my kindle. I Read the first two chapters and I was so hooked. It was very fun to read the origins of this story and really liking the fact that these kids were kids "with attitude" and not such role models as it was in the tv show. Really hoping this film gets a sequel so we can see Tommy!

This was both fun and frustrating to read. It was fun because the movie is awesome, and reading it was almost like watching the movie. It was frustrating because even for a children's book it was poorly written and left out more than a little, including some important things. Honestly, I don't know how it got published with how much it could have used a good copyeditor. Or just an editor in general. Or anyone, really, because there were glaringly obvious errors that really detracted from the whole thing. And I don't know what age range it was supposed to be for, but it felt condescendingly dumbed down at times.

But I liked it because Power Rangers.

Honestly I loved this. The reasons I gave it 3 stars are
1) it's a novelization of the movie. Therefore it's not detailed like it would be if someone wrote an original story
2) it's clearly for kids, which would bother me since I'm a huge Power Rangers fan, but cramming a 2 hour movie into a 150 page book isn't a good idea.

Overall it was pretty good and makes me even more excited to see the movie.
