In his book Your Competent Child (1995, in English 2001) he argued that today's families are at an exciting crossroads because the destructive values — obedience, physical and emotional violence, and conformity — that governed traditional hierarchical families are being transformed.

Profondo, semplice e acuto.

Not as good as "Your Competent Child", slightly more focused on the older kids and family relations, but I still found it valuable. In general, we need to have more books like that, especially considering highly limited knowledge in Poland.

When it comes to raising my children, I've chosen my own path that I feel works for me and my family. Nonetheless I still enjoy reading litterature on parenting and this book perhaps even more so as the ideas presented are closely aligned with my own views on the subject matter.
One of the things the book suggests is to bring communication back on your own side of the court as a parent by phrasing reprimands "I want you to stop jumping on the couch" in stead of saying "You have to stop jumping on the couch". I can highly recommend this little trick as it has worked wonders on my eldest son all day. He is usually quite stubborn but today when saying "I want/I would like/I need", he has generally been mild mannered and helpful.
