Aliens In Kilts #1

Matchmaker Abduction

Rate this book
True love is said to defy time, but can it survive space, aliens, and being abducted? Angus MacNamara and Erin O’Shea are about to find out.

The big blue planet that most call  Earth desperately needs matchmakers. There is only one small—okay, BIG—problem. No one wants the alien dating service job… No one. The original matchmakers are dead, and much worse, their DNA is no longer viable for cloning.

Solution? Go back in time to some of Earth’s other—thankfully slower spinning—versions, and retrieve the alternates of the one couple in any universe who seems able to do the job.

Far easier said than done though, especially when the alternates are anything but a loving couple, and both are none too pleased to be thrown into the future.

What does oil and water create? Salad dressing or a real mess of aliens, humans, and matchmaking fun!

Ends at 80%!

That was annoying. Lots of repetition of the same info over and over. The accents were annoying. Not much for descriptions or world building. Pretty empty and just odd.

Matchmaker Abduction by Donna McDonald
Aliens in Kilts, Abduction 1

What fun! This book had me smiling and caring and laughing as I read. McDonald has created a world of universes that rely on one another and as this book begins there is great need of matchmakers to match aliens with humans. Who is brought in to solve things? Angus MacNamara and Erin O’Shea. The two had a testy relationship before their abduction BUT with a second chance in a new time period and location will they manage to find a HEA?

There are aliens, clones, women drafted to be brides, a relationship to build, and a whole lot more going on in this book. I enjoyed the realistic and often humorous interactions between Erin and Angus, the friendship building done by Angus with Nate and the aliens and the intriguing ideas introduced about the world and multiverses. I am looking forward to reading more in the series and hope I won’t have to wait long to read book two of the series.

Thank you to the author for the ARC. This is my honest review.

I was not sure what I expected. I did enjoy this book. The first half was confusing to me. I had a difficult time staying with it. However, I stayed with it. And I was glad that I did. This is a story about time travel and universe hopping. There are clones, aliens, and humans. The hero, Angus, and the heroine, Erin, are matchmakers in their time period, 1958, on Earth. They are taken from that time period and that Earth and placed in 2497 on a very different Earth. The male matchmaker was fun and interesting. The hero and heroine also have a Scottish accent. The writer maintains this accent all through the book. The matchmaking is done between the Earth women and the alien males. This service is not wanted but necessary. The aliens need the females to help repopulate their home worlds. The people on Earth need the protection of the aliens. The aliens take on human characteristics. They show emotion by tone of voice, extent of vocabulary, and gestures. By the end of the book, I wanted to see what happened next. I will probably reread this book as it does engage you. I will also read the next one in the series.

3 & 1/2 stars rounded up.
This held my attention, & it was entertaining. I did have a bit of a problem with the heavy usage of “feck” (which I believe is an easy assumtion of the American translation for any reader), it was strung into what seemed like every other sentence leaving Angus’ & Erin’s mouths. I also felt it was a bit slower to read trying to translate in my mind the heavy brogue type accent the author tried to give the characters. I’m not sure how that could be addressed to help the readability though without sacrificing both (H/h) characters’ uniqueness. I was waiting for the aliens to all be in kilts (because of the series title) but it never happened. There was only one kilt in this book at the beginning that Angus wore that didn’t make the time travel. There was even talk that he would get kilts specially made, not that it happened in this book. So I’m guessing it’s in the next book, I see there are 2 more in the series. I would be interested in reading the next one in the series at some point.

The Earth of Universe 1 is in need of Matchmakers! Lots of alien races need wives and Earth has signed treaties with them to provide wives so we are protected from the bad aliens.

So they kidnap Erin & Angus from Earth of Universe 6, from 500 years in the past, 1950's. This is the joy of the Multi-Verses, people are very similar so when the original matchmakers die they replace them, so the treaties with the alien races can be fulfilled.

We get a lot of snark from Erin & grovelling from Angus, as they had a past where he was grieving his dead wife. They worked together to matchmake Angus's 7 children, so they've had practice.

Overall, it was bad sci-fi world building and despite a lot a reviewers saying this was funny, I didn't find it funny at all. Got pretty sick of the Irish-Scotish swearing every time they opened their mouths to be honest. I did enjoy the story despite this and I eventually warmed up to the characters. I might read the other 2 books in the series, the MCs have been introduced already and I'd like to see the HEAs.

Time travel, aliens, and kilts. Oh, my!

It's safe to say that contemporary romantic comedies are my favorite romance sub-genre, but there's this hidden (maybe not so hidden) side to me that has loved time travel and alien action since I was a kid. Combine that with some comedy and the written word and I'm a little bit giddy!

I've been a reader of Donna McDonald's contemporary works for a couple of years and enjoy how she doesn't shy away from older (35+) adults getting their happily-ever-after. She does the same here, but gives them the scientific advantage of fiction where adulthood is barely beginning at that age. I won't go into any details of this story, because it's more fun to just dive in. Just know that you get an aging Scot/Irish alpha of a man with a second lease on life and a fiery female who has always loved him. They are thrust into a literal future with expectations while dealing with the unknown - mulit-universes, aliens and rapid technology. All this while only having each other to rely on for support and comfort. This makes for great comedy and sweet romance.

Note that there is a HEA/HFN at the end of this story, but a cliffhanger of sorts for the how, why and what's of the Matchmaker Abduction program. I'm looking forward to seeing what couple(s) are featured in the next book, while also visiting with Angus, Erin and the various aliens who are waiting for their turn to be "matched." (I voluntarily read an advanced copy of Matchmaker Abduction. This is my honest and unbiased review)

First in a continuing series

This book is a little different. Angus and Erin live in Scotland in the 1950's. His wife died nine years ago. And Erin helped him "matchmake" his seven children to their spouses. They have a very argumentative relationship. Some "men in Black" types appear and kidnap them. They take them 500 years into the future into another universe. According to the people that stole them. They were living on Universe 6 and transported to Universe 1.
The Angus and Erin that lived on Universe 1 died of old age and they needed a similar couple of matchmakers to take their place. They are expected to March human women to alien men in exchange for the aliens protection of the new earth planet from hostile aliens.
There is some interesting characters brought forth in this book. I will definitely keep you interested as you figure out what exactly is going on, while watching the relationship between Erin and Angus grow.
The book ended in a happy for now with Erin and Angus, but left a lot of other things dangling. I didn't like realize that this book is a continuing series about Erin and Angus's matchmaking trials.
I enjoyed it enough that I will continue with the next book, I wish that it was stated that these books are a continuous saga.

Alien abduction with a difference!

Other than at the very beginning none of the men, human or alien, wore kilts! But that's OK because the story is very cute. The only problem that I have with it is that its more like an installment than a book. I've got so many questions. Of course that pretty well guarantees that I'll be reading the next book....and the next....and the next...LOL!
Angus and Erin are delightful characters and you can understand their confusion coming from the 1950s! Nobody who wasn't around then could understand the advances we have made in the last 60 years! TV was in its early years in Britain. Air travel was expensive but luxurious compared to today when most people travel cattle class (or economy as the airlines call it)! D McD's version of Universe 1 is not appealing to us. Poor Angus and Erin are, as they put it, prisoners in a gilded cage! And not that gilded from the description of their quarters. Nate, comes across as a person with little to no empathy. Some of his comments are very crass. Of course, Angus will have none of his nonsense. The author has caught the intonation of the Irish Gaelic quite well and it is the perfect vehicle for her sense of humour.
I just wish that there had been an ending.

I have not read this author before and as I had a chance to read it for free I wanted to give it a go, especially as the title intrigued me.
So it is quite repetitive such as the dialogue and scenes, cooking is used a lot and so are full names. This does slow down the reading a bit for me but it was only a minor problem.
If you didn't want people to feel like prisoners maybe not call it the Alien Abduction Service. That does not sound appealing at all.
Also, why is it called Aliens in Kilts? The only one that had worn a kilt was the human. Unless this is mentioned in a future book?
It also jumps between character perspectives.
Only these small things bugged me and they are only minor.

I had to laugh at the Marvel reference. Toorg is Groot backwards and what does Groot say? I am Groot. I liked that, and I like Toorg.
I found the concept interesting and the characters were likeable.
It is a short book so a relatively quick read. It was funny at times and I like the sci fi/time jumping aspect of it.
I really liked Bri and I hope she has a book with Darcone.
Overall, it is worth a read and I would be interested in continuing to read the series.

Angus MacNamara and Erin O'Shea are rival matchmakers in 1958 who sometimes partner together for certain cases. Angus has fulfilled a promise he made to his late wife to find spouses for all their children and now is ready to join her when he is interrupted by Erin. Then five strange men appear and whisk them away to the year 2497 in an alternate universe. Their services are needed for matchmaking various aliens.
I found the beginning of this book kind of rough. I felt it was the next book in a series and I had missed a lot of the backstory; however, this is book one. It got better and I enjoyed some of the back-and-forths between Angus and Erin. The story is a takeoff on Men in Black combined with Doctor Who and Galaxy Quest and is funny in places. But I found the story rushed and not really my cup of tea, but I can see how some readers would enjoy it.
I'd give it 3 1/2 stars rounded up to four. I am giving an honest review in exchange for a copy of the book.

Donna McDonald’s new Series Aliens in Kilts starts out with the tongue in cheek, laugh out loud funny first book, Matchmaker Abduction. This is very different from the Nano Wolves or Cybers series but highly enjoyable just the same. New worlds or universes really are being built by the author to make this a refreshing paranormal story. Past, present, aliens, and humans all collide together with matchmakers leading the way.
The story is fast paced for a first book that must world build as well as setting the overarching theme, but Matchmaker Abduction never misses a beat. The characters are developed as the reader see Angus and Erin build a relationship together and friendship with the other supporting characters. I can’t wait to see what Ms. McDonald comes up with next with the Aliens in Kilts Series.

Erin and Angus are abducted from Earth to become Matchmakers on an alternate Alien Earth full of all types of " people" wanting matches and true love . Only problem is, this set of Angus and Erin don't like each other much and fight like cats and dogs, but what is the old adage about love and hate being two sides of the same coin ? You'll just have to read the hilarious things that come out of their mouths, much less Erin being upset that Angus got a newly remodeled 20years younger body, while she's still soft and plump ( but their ambassador swears tgat will change over 6 months, not that she's buying one word out of her kidnapoers head !! They remind me of Booth and Bones from the TV show, always at odds, but aways able to fix it for their customers in the end . 4⭐'s . Can't wait for book 2 !!

I thought Ms McDonald's books were great up until now, but this particular story shows just how versatile her penmanship actually is. The combination of the matchmaking skills shown in her "Never to late" series, teamed together with a fiesty Scottish couple, who enjoy tongue lashing each other as a form of fore play and the location of a Universe, where aliens are lining up to marry human women, must assure an outlet for laughter and at times, crude but accurate comments on human mannerisms and behavior.
I have enjoyed this first book in the series, and have voluntarily submitted this review after reading an advanced copy of this book.

A Scottish Time Travel Love Story. OVER 18+READING

Angus and Erin are taken from their universe and when they wake they discover they are to replace their other selves from the universe they are now in. Erin having woke up a month before Angus had already excepted things and encouraged Angus to. She had loved him a long time but unlike the ones they were replacing they had not been married. The Admiral Nate knows more than he is telling. They find out about their other selves daughters Bri who is on board the ship and Sheena a scientist who comes to see her sister. You will love the fun of this couple and the Scottish way they talk.

Hilarious alien Matchmaker abduction

Erin and Angus are matchmakers in one timeline, who are abducted by aliens who needs matchmaking done. The couple have been fighting their attraction for 9 years ever since Angus's wife died. They are like oil and water. Will they ever find love?

The main characters are quirky, snarky toward each other, and delightful. The plot is an unusual one but it works.

I love this book because of the humor and of course genus of the characters. I'm looking forward to buying the rest of the series. I highly recommend this book for somebody who likes humorous quirky sci-fi.

I love stories like this that mix and meld together different genre's. If an author can get it right and learn to balance everything, that is even better. Donna McDonald has done just that. She has given us a witty, a little out there (and out of this world), and romantic. Add to that plenty of action and drama and you have yourself set up for quite the ride. I just felt like this was an overall quick and fun read. It was fast moving and kept me flipping pages furiously.

I loved the characters and the setting and how vivid Donna McDonald's descriptions of them and the world(s) were.

A fantastic Romantic Sci-Fi! Donna McDonald did a great job of providing the reader with a balance between the Sci-Fi, Romance, and Comedy along with keeping true to the setting and theme.
Her characters are well developed and read like real people.
A Smooth moving plot with action that kept me flipping pages to the very end.
Fun and fresh! I loved the wit and humor she brought to the novel.
This was just an overall feel good read that allowed me to escape reality for a bit and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Angus and Erin are abducted from Earth to be matchmakers. Although there is chemistry and attraction between the two Erin has been treated to 9 years of slights from Angus. Not the loving couple that was wanted. They adapt to their new surroundings as the new matchmakers and build a new connection to each other. This was a fun read that I enjoyed so much that I plan on reading the rest of the series. Well developed characters, great descriptions of aliens and interactions with them.

This is absolutely hilarious on more than one front. To begin with we have a 1950's pair of Irish-Scot's with all their formable tempers, the woman's been in love with the man for nine years and he's been too afraid to take a chance. Now kidnap them and whisk them 500 years into the future and explain all they have to do is matchmake human woman with alien males, oh and pretend to be happily married. Yeah, I pretty much laughed my way through the whole book.

Well this is a twist! Love watching Erin and Angus sparring. Alien abductions at its finest. The beginning of what could be a lovely sci fi series!

Erin catches on quicker than Angus, but that's a man for ya. It's good when he manages to stop making an ass of himself, and set out to make working with Erin actually work.

Really fun read with lots of little twists and turns. Happy ending too! Looking forward to reading the others.

I really liked this quirky little read. Thought both characters were hysterically funny and so rude too. Maybe you have to be a Scot or Irish to enjoy but I couldn’t stop laughing and really looking forward to the next book. Highly recommend for an entertaining afternoon by the fire.

Fun to get involved with these characters. Laughing all the way. And the basic sci fi parts are good, too. Even makes me think about options for our future. Now on to the next one.

The first thing you need to know is that this book will make you laugh. Angus MacNamara and Erin O’Shea are SO typical (at least with what I would imagine) and their personalities are snippy and caustic and buried deep down adorable and loving. They just haven’t figured it out yet…and somehow, even at the end of the book, Erin is still making Angus pay. In a good way, trust me! Seriously, the story is great – has time travel, abduction, smarty-pants aliens and future government agents (who certainly seem to think they know better) – but really? All they need is a dose of good old-fashioned common sense. And that is delivered by Angus and Erin. Read the description, buy the book, and enjoy. It is a wild ride and one I’m looking forward to riding again. At least I’m hoping it will continue with some of the other folks we met in this story. I will be disappointed if this is the last we hear from this matchmaking duo!

The scene opens in 1958 with Angus MacNamara standing over his wife’s grave. Having completed his promises to her for marrying off their children, he was ready to shoot himself. A voice distracted him as Erin O’Shea, his sometimes matchmaking partner, stood before him. As they argued over just about everything, they became aware that five strange men stood watching them. It turns out, they were time-travelers and needed the services of Angus and Erin. Their comment about stopping time definitely got Erin’s attention! What was going on here???

In a world of multiple universes, everyone relies on matchmakers to bring aliens and humans together. So Angus and Erin, considered effective matchmakers in their time, are brought into another universe to solve a problem. The continuous banter between Angus and Erin is thoroughly amusing! The adventures are laugh-out-loud funny! I look forward to this series, as this was a very good start! I voluntarily read a review copy of this book and my comments reflect my honest opinion.
