Target 100: The World's Simplest Weight-Loss Program in 6 Easy Steps

Rate this book
"When I was losing weight, Liz was more than my coach; she was my rock, and I couldn't have done it without her. She just got it, because she'd been through it herself (and helped about a million other people through it, too). Target 100 is Liz in book form--smart, supportive, and full of practical, simple solutions. Liz changed my life and my whole concept of dieting--and now can change, yours too."

--Jessica Simpson

When did weight loss get so complicated?

Today, it feels like there are a million different apps, tools, workouts, and eating plans designed to help you lose weight. Some promise success via drastic, unlivable restrictions, others are so complex they turn losing weight into a second job.

In Target 100, celebrity weight-loss coach Liz Josefsberg shows you don't have to be a slave to your weight-loss program. You don't have to count every gram of every nutrient and every calorie you eat at every meal. Believe it or not, weight loss can be simple.

It can even be . . . fun.

A 15-year veteran of the weight-loss industry and who lost--and kept off--65 pounds herself, Liz has accrued a high-profile clientele. She helped Oscar-winner Jennifer Hudson lose weight and transform her life and coached Jessica Simpson to shed over 50 pounds of baby weight (twice!). But along with the likes of Charles Barkley and Katie Couric, Josefsberg has also coached thousands of others, everyone from stay-at-home moms to office jockeys. Along the way, she's learned what works--and what doesn't--when it comes to lasting weight loss, and she's ready to share her secrets with the rest of us.

Target 100 streamlines the weight-loss process into six easy-to-follow guidelines and shows you how to adjust them to fit your lifestyle, personalizing the program so that it works for you. Josefsberg offers tips, worksheets, and powerful insights to help you fine-tune a range of weight-related behaviors, from battling stress to getting more sleep, setting the stage for permanent, long-term weight loss.

Instead of counting calories, you'll learn how simple changes come together to jumpstart your health and wellbeing, such as:

Drinking 100 ounces of water a day Exercising for 100 minutes a week Adding 100 minutes of Sleep a week De-Stressing for 100 minutes a week And more! Warm and no-nonsense, encouraging and informative, Target 100 is a holistic and revolutionary wellness book with a simple message: You don't need to be perfect to lose weight, or transform yourself into someone you're not. You can lose weight for good, with the world's simplest weight loss program.

This is an anti-fad diet book which tries to pull together everything we now know about weight loss into a workable personal plan. The author is a former employee of Weight Watchers, a program I have used successfully before but have had trouble sustaining.
The book focuses on habit training in 6 different areas--diet/carbs, exercise, movement, sleep, water, stress. She encourages you to take on one area a week in order to build new habits. This approach seems genius to me because as you are reading the book you begin to see how terribly difficult it is to change just one habit, let alone all the factors that have gone into weight gain. It is easy to see why diets don't work. I have been working on a couple of these areas for a while now and just getting in 7 good hours of sleep a night has taken an extreme effort on my part.

I love how she separates exercise from movement. Right now I have decided to focus on movement only, trying to get in at least 10,000 steps a day. Once again this is extremely difficult requiring me to be mindful all day long of opportunities to walk. I am also taking advantage of the community features of my Fitbit and finally won a Work Week Hustle last week when everyone else in my group was under the weather! Eventually, when I have this down, I will figure out how to get in 100 minutes a week of more challenging exercise.
My audiobook habit will probably increase as I try to combine my love of and need for reading with my need to move.

When we look at weight loss through the lens of habit, it naturally changes our priorities. The one tip I would add to this book is the idea of intermittent fasting. I try to go 15 hours now between my last meal of the day and break-fast.

The last chapter focuses on technology and apps. I like that. There are so many things that can help us. Setting timers for prayer and meditation, and I come at these from a strictly Christian perspective on meditation, can transform my day. Two minutes used to feel interminably long, but now it feels short and I yearn for longer periods of silence.

For those fighting a lifetime of confusing habits, this book will probably be far more helpful than a new diet book or plan.

Excellent advice on dieting including: 1) drink 100 ounces of water a day, 2) move 100 more minutes a week, 3) sleep 100 more minutes a week, 4) destress 100 minutes a week, 5) eat less than 100 grams of carbs a day. Worth focusing on the concepts taught. The chapters on habit creation are brilliant. I would give a higher rating but this one needed another edit.

This is Nonfiction/Health. I saw this author on Youtube as a guest on someone's channel. I was impressed with her message and thought I would pick up her book. I like how she fine tunes the steps to doing what needs to be done when it comes to weight loss goals. She breaks them into doable tasks that are easy to remember.

When I started this one, I didn't care for it. It was so simplistic and nothing new. But once she got out of the set up phase and into her message I was able to find the rhythm of her message. Even though I disliked the simplicity of the beginner basics, I like how she maintained that through out the book when talking about the harder things. So 4 stars. I'm glad I didn't give up on this one in the first 10 - 20 minutes.

Not the most dazzling diet book, that is the point -- dazzle doesn't do it, practical information and advice can help. This book was empathetic and realistic. Even if I don't sucessfully embrace all of the suggestions I have learned a lot and she made me think. A very useful book for those struggling with weight issues.

PS The audiobook is read by the author. Nice!

“Another diet book?” That was my initial impression when coming across Liz Josefsberg’s “Target 100: the World’s Simplest Weight-Loss Program in 6 Easy Steps”. I’ve been on various diets over the years and I had settled on Weight Watchers as being the most effective for me. Still I struggle with maintaining a healthy weight, and the author’s simple approach appealed to me, so I wanted to read more.

“Losing weight should be about self-discovery, not blind devotion to somebody else’s rules,” Josefsberg writes in the introduction as she shares her own past issues with weight loss. I liked how the book addresses healthy living in general and not just the battle with the scale. The author had held a prominent position with Weight Watchers for many years, mentoring celebrity clients. The notion that her strategy could be an effective, yet simple, approach beyond Weight Watchers was appealing to me.

The Target 100 in the book breaks down healthy living in six simple steps:

100 grams of Carbs daily
100 ounces of water daily
100 minutes of exercise weekly
100 minutes of extra movement weekly
100 minutes of stress relief weekly
100 minutes of extra sleep weekly

I immediately realized my water intake was far below 100 ounces a day. That was the first change I made (drinking 20 ounces at 5 evenly spaced intervals, with none after 6 pm). This alone helped me lose a few pounds the first week. The 100 grams of Carbs daily and 100 minutes of exercise weekly were easy for me to add to my routine, as well as increasing my meditation time to 100 minutes weekly to meet target number 5.

The 100 minutes of extra movement weekly was something I hadn’t considered. I’m exercising 100 minutes – why do I need 100 extra minutes of movement? The author stresses the importance of not sitting most of the day (which I often do in my work at the computer). I’m taking extra walks and climbing extra stairs to work towards that 100 minutes/week.

The other point I liked about the book is that the “100” targets are goals to aim for, and not hard and fast rules. This allows the reader to personalize the program to fit his or her lifestyle best. I’m still not there on the 100 minutes a week of extra movement, or the 100 minutes of extra sleep!

Beyond the six steps the book is filled with exercises, charts, and suggestions to help with the process. I like the Target 100 private Facebook group the reader can join for more tips and where the author contributes frequently.

I recommend Target 100 for those who want to try a different and unique approach to losing those unwanted pounds and generally achieving a healthier lifestyle.

Target 100 is a great concept, writing by Liz Josefsberg who admits to having tried all of the fad diets under the sun. Her concept emerged from her followings of the WeightWatchers diet movement, and I am really pleased to see that her programme involves going back to basics and simply watching what you eat (but eating exactly what you want), moving more and just generally being more aware of yourself and your body. She goes into a lot of detail about habits and how we can modify these, as quite often our habits and routines are the sticking point for succeeding in diets.

This is a very handy book for anyone that needs a bit more motivation to stick at losing weight, and needs some help in re-training their thoughts.

Target 100 is a really well-put together self-help book.

If you ignore the clickbait title and the packaging in general, the book holds a wealth of information about the science of habit forming. How do we form habits? How can we replace unhelpful habits with helpful ones? What should we focus on to live a healthier life?

Target 100 is a really interesting program. Rather than formulating a definitive diet plan it formulates an easy to understand plan to change your lifestyle at your own pace, on your own time. It focuses on six simple areas and sets easily attainable goals for those areas. Rather than "Drink more water" it focuses on "get 100 oz of water into yourself each day and see how you feel." Hey, I can do that.

I liked this book. It was easy to digest and it helped me plot a way forward for changing my own life. So far? Well. I've made some great changes thanks to the plans within it and I can't wait to make more. Would highly recommend it for anyone looking to change any kinds of habits within their own life - not just weight loss and formulating better diet plans.

***I received an ARC of this book but the following comments are my own honest thoughts and opinions of this selection.***

Liz is all about real talk when it comes to her personal struggle to lose weight and her time as a Weight Watchers spokesperson. This book helps you figure out what triggers you to eat unhealthy and how to substitute healthy options to create new habits. This is a fantastic way of making little changes. She also helps you realize that you are bound to make a mistake or slip up from time to time. Instead of giving up when this happens and feeling bad about it, Liz teaches you to accept that you made a mistake and get right back on the horse the next day. The book covers her main 6 steps for making changes. Her "Target 100" includes things like 100 ounces of water each day, 100 minutes of exercise weekly, and 100 grams of carbs daily. These are such easy things to incorporate and change that I feel like this may be a perfect guide for so many more people than the average diet is. I found this book to be very helpful and encouraging. I love how friendly the tone is of the book and how easy Liz is to relate too. The foreword is by Jennifer Hudson and she has lost so much weight and maintained it thanks to help from Liz. This is a must read for anyone looking to lose weight or simply making some healthy changes.

I received a copy of this book to read from NetGalley in exchange for a fair review. It took me a long time to write my review of Target 100 by Liz Josefsberg because I didn’t want to read it I wanted to put what I was reading into action. So in no particular order here are 5 things I liked about this book.
It’s easy to read, straightforward and fully explained.
You don’t have to make all the changes at once, over a 10 week period you add 1 target a week.
I love the positive point of view from which this book is written. It’s about caring for yourself not beating yourself up for not being perfect.
Reading this book is fun and it’s like having a really smart fitness coach you can carry around with you
It works, I lost weight and feel better ... even that week I had the miserable cold. I am still not the best sleeper and I still love coffee and bacon, but I did give up my candy addiction.

One I really struggled with was the water target and yes I did give up on that one. I do drink more water than I did before but here is the thing I often work 10 hour shifts ... and they are busy shifts... I simply don’t have the time to drink that much water on those days.
If you are looking to make a lifestyle change and feel better about yourself this book is a good tool to help you make those changes. #Target100 #Netgalley

Wow. I LOVED this book and felt like it held so much value. I was a little skeptical at first. The author has worked with Weight Watchers and a lot of celebrities (and brings up their examples), so I thought I might be getting into a gimmicky diet book. Not at all. This book is not about dieting, or a certain way to it. This book is about forming habits and small lifestyle changes that will lead to a long-term, healthier you with multiple areas that lead to weight loss.

She focuses on 6 main areas of health: carbs, water, exercise, daily movement, sleep, and stress. Each section has tips, strategies, and a slow process to make every section and step feel doable, and sustainable over time. There's also a great section for each on how it helps with weight loss.

The author clearly has a lot of professional and successful experience, and has put some great knowledge in this book. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to live a healthier lifestyle and/or lose weight.

I don't really know how I want to describe this book. If you are very new to self-help books then a lot of this information might sound new to you. On the other hand, if you are not then this will feel like any run of the mill book. The concept of aiming for 100 is the main idea. I don't actually prefer books that give personal accounts or boring stories from celebrities. Mainly because everyone has a different life and I don't want to compare my experience to anyone else's.

One of my favorite things about knowing an author IRL is when their book actually sounds like them! Liz changed my life 18 months ago and continues to be a huge source of strength and support for me. She is sweeter than sugar, which incidentally, I finally kicked my addiction to while working with her. In short, this is the smartest “diet book” I’ve ever read.

I heard Katie Couric recommend this book on her podcast and checked it out. It's pretty legit. Nothing too Earth-shattering here. But it does present many well-known principals in a way that's easy to read and digest and implement. The author has long experience in this field, distilling and refining this approach over many years.

The trick is that there are only 6 things to keep track of and they all use 100. And they are all just targets. No beating yourself up if you don't hit them all the time. But they are all supposed to work together to set you up for success in losing weight and being a happier, healthier person. And you're not supposed to jump into all of them all at once. You ease into them over a period of several weeks, tackling one (or even just part of one) at a time.

I like how another reviewer called this an 'anti-fad' diet. I'd also add that it's really an anti-diet. Only some of what is discussed is food. This is all about making lifestyle adjustments (less scary than changes) that should bring success. It's worth checking out and probably worth a try.

People don’t succeed by blindly following a one-size-fits-all diet and exercise plan; they triumph when they begin with a great plan and customize it until it fits them like a glove.

This seems like a very doable weight loss program. It's flexible, customizable, and looks like it's sustainable.

The program is pretty much on the cover already:
100 grams of carbs daily
100 minutes of stress relief weekly
100 ounces of water daily
100 minutes of movement weekly
100 minutes of extra sleep weekly
100 minutes of exercise weekly

The book just expounds on each target, like why it's important, how to do it, and examples. The book also talks a lot about how crucial our habits are.

I heard about this book from YouTube. The only thing left to do is actually do the program.

Great book. Very useful info. Must get.

If you're willing to do some self exploration (which can painful) this book will be an immense help. I've tried eating small meals, vegan only, low carb, low fat none of that worked for me. Some of my friends found success by writing down all they ate. For me that was a chore. Finally, I realized I was a heavy breakfast eater. Once I went with that my cravings practically disappeared. Eating a mid sized meal for dinner kept my calories in the weight loss zone. Bingo!! At last something I could stick with and not feel the least bit deprived. On the occasional pizza or burger splurge it preface it with a huge salad. Works great!! Good luck with your journey. Blessed be.

Liz’s approach to a healthy life and weight loss are so practical! I’m one of those who hates to wade through pages of fluff before finding the point. This isn’t a book where the author is overly bragging about there plan. It’s not a 500 step process that will leave you miserable, starving, and exhausted. It’s a short list of small changes that will add up to major results. I love her modified approach to macro tracking. It makes so much sense! I just wish I’d thought if it myself.

I started reading this as an ebook on scribd, and I liked it so much that I bought a hard copy of it. I’ve been trying low carb and I am at that point where I don’t think it’s sustainable long term without whole grains. And I like the 100 grams carbs limit which is not that hard. The book also made me drink more water. I haven’t tried concentrating on one target per week yet because I wanted to read the book first but at least while I was reading it, I started going back to the gym.

This was a really fun challenge to do with my mom. It actually got me thinking and having fun with my weight loss. My only real issue that 100 carbs is VERY hard to work with and takes a lot of practice. I found that there wasn't a lot of variety in what was recommended. Just greek yogurt, eggs, meat, leafy greens, and cheese. Also, my copy didn't have any of the worksheets which was a bummer. But those won't tank my rating. It has good lessons, and a fun and easy to follow diet plan.

I liked that so mich of what I already know was just again confirmed in this book. Habits are important. Nobody can reach a 100% target every day of their lives, but anyone can strive towards 100% and be satisfied that what they did was the best they could for that specific day.
Reset your beliefs about new things and focus on small habitual changes that are manageable. 1 step every day is better than 10 steps in one day and falling back 20 steps the next.

A bit embarrassed to list this one, but yes, I do on occasion read self help/diet books. There was nothing new in this one but I liked the concept of not being perfect. One first target is to focus on better hydration. For those who want a "diet" book, this is not it. The only food thing she focuses on is limiting carbs to 100 gram/day.

This is a must-read. I first saw Liz on Tom Bilyeau's Impact Theory and I was super intrigued to know more. I got the book from the library and dug in. I like the 6 pillar concept. I have adopted it, made it into a measurable excel spreadsheet and am seeing so much progress. All too often we only focus on food. This is so much more comprehensive and easy to implement.
