A haunted house at the church’s Halloween carnival is a likely place to trip over a body. Unfortunately, this one is dead. In her new role as investigator for a defense attorney, Deena Sharpe must prove their client is innocent. But when clues point to the pastor, his wife, and his secretary, Deena is stuck in the middle of an unholy murder case. If you like a fast-paced, puzzling mystery, check out Sharpe Point today!
A book that has dynamic characters, interesting plot that makes you really wonder and is hard to put down is like a well worn pair of jeans, comfy slippers or a meal of favorite comfort foods - you just can't go wrong! That is how I feel about the Cozy Suburbs mystery series by Lisa B Thomas. I just can't wait to see what happens next for Deena Sharpe and her entourage. I have read 5 (I read the prequel first) so far and hope they keep coming. I don't write reviews that tell a lot about the stories or characters because I think you should get the opportunity to meet them first hand. But I will say I can't wait to see what happens with Mayor of Maycroft in book 5.
Deena is now an investigator for a defense attorney. When a haunted house has the real dead body inside, and the suspects don’t seem the likely ones to be. These all good stories to enjoy with good characters, and good flowing plots
This is my review of the audio version as posted on Audible:
"Sharpe Point" is no. 4 in the Maycroft Mysteries series (and the third I listened to), and it's the best installment so far:)
Deena Sharpe is the kind of character readers really like - a bit nosy (which is a good quality in a PI, right?) but also loyal, intelligent, warm, and with that spark of humor that makes her adorable even when she tries to be naughty...
This time there's a hard task ahead of her - how can she defend someone she personally thinks is guilty of the crime? But then new evidence comes to light and things stop being seemingly obvious, more suspects appear as more facts are uncovered, and finally Deena's conscience is satisfied:)
The books in the series are quite short, but the plots are logical, with enough red herrings and enough twists to keep you glued to the pages. As usual, we get a satisfactory although quite unexpected ending, but this time Ms Thomas added a cherry on the cake in the form of Deena's mother-in-law, Sylvia - I loved her character a lot:)
Narration by Ms Hazen is very good; it adds an emotional layer to the book, allowing you to relate to the feelings of the individual characters much better. I especially loved her interpretation of Sylvia - the voice given to that character just tells you everything about her and makes her sooo real in her cute annoyance (yes, it's possible to be cutely annoying:)).
Definitely a must for cozy mysteries lovers - whether you've read/listened to the other three parts or not:)

I enjoyed this book. It was a fun light easy mystery with a twist. It contained some some good characters and I look forward to reading about them again, In the form of the budding relationship between the mother in law and the neighbour. I liked how they got there and the humour it entailed. The mystery was good with plenty of suspects and I was surprised with the ending. I like another who can mix it up and keep me on my toes. I am not reading the series in order but you don't need to have because so far they have all been stand alone books and the only thing to keep changing is Deena's job. Off to see which other books in this series I haven't read yet. At a Halloween party Deena stumbles over a body. At first everybody thinks it was natural causes and he drunk himself to death. But as the police take statements about the incident the more they learn he wasn't a nice man nd they could very well have a murder on there hands. The main suspect, Wendy the party planner turns to Ian, Deena's lawyer boss for help and so Deena find herself trying to prove there client innocent of the crime. She is close to getting married to a rich man and the dead guy was blackmailing her over something in in her past. Something her fiance or more importantly his rich family wouldn't want getting out. But if he was willing to blackmail one person surely there must be more. Its Deena's job to find a needle in a haystack and find someone else to blame. All before her friend gives birth to her first child and Deena has to play doting godmother.
( Format : Audiobook ) "What a waste of a perfectly good cake." Halloween, definitely not Deena's favourite time, and the slightly early Carnival finds Deena, home made cake in hand (her mother-in-law has been teaching her baking during her prolonged stay), tripping over something in the dark. Or rather, someone; yes, Deena has literally stumbled on another dead body. So much for her promises to herself not to get involved again. This, the fifth in the cozy stand alone mystery series set in Maycroft, Texas, again follows Deena as she juggles home life and friendships with her compulsion to get involved with investigating what really happened - as she sees it. In Agatha Christie fashion, clues are scattered along the way for the reader to try to work it out first. Well written, and with good dialogue and character interaction, these stories just keep getting better. With the excellent Kelley Hazen again narrating with warm gusto and great character voicings, this is a fun addition to the series. Recommended.
Lisa B. Thomas is one of my favorite authors and Deena Sharpe continues to be one of my favorite heroines to give voice. The humor Lisa brings us in this down home suburban community is so identifiable. And each one of Lisa's titles just gets stronger and stronger, better and better, funnier and funnier, as we get to know Deena and all her peeps - her husband, her mother-in-law, her friend, even her hair dresser! - just a bit better with each mystery. Lisa's ear for the humor of this Texas world is so charming. It's a pleasure to be a part of this delightful series. And SHARPE POINT is no exception to this Maycroft Mystery Rule. Deena finds a mystery at the Halloween Festival put on by the church. The characters we find here are an interesting bunch of congregants. Gary's mother, Sylvia, is front and center as she tangles with Deena's creepy next door neighbor. And it's almost time for Sandra to have her baby! Charm and laughter with just the right amount of whodunit thrown in!
In Sharpe Point by Lisa B. Thomas, Deena Sharpe gets embroiled in another murder case when she stumbles over a body at the haunted house at her church’s Halloween carnival. Ray Brewster, the church’s janitor with an unsavory reputation, lies dead. Soon, Deena’s best friend’s husband, Ian Davis, calls her in to his law office with a new investigative job. Though no post- mortem has been completed, a client of his in the midst of pressing harassment charges against Ray, Wendy Fairmont, is suspected of having killed the man. Then it comes out that Ray was blackmailing Wendy, a former beauty queen, now a wedding planner. The pressure from Mayor Thornhill for an arrest in time for his upcoming election forces Detective Gutmann to arrest Wendy. But even he soon suspects Wendy has been set up, so he too turns to Deena for help in finding the truth.

Sharpe Point is the fifth book in Lisa B. Thomas' humorous Maycroft Mystery series. It's nice that a murder happens at the beginning of the book! The action starts right away! Deena Sharpe is at the First Methodist Church Halloween Carnival. When she tries to leave the cake she brought, she stumbles upon, Ray Brewster, the church custodian. And, yes, he is dead! Deena is once again working for her friend Ian. The mayor wants this murder case solved to prove that he is tough on crime. So Deena starts investigating to help their client, party planner, Wendy Fairmont. To keep things interesting at home, Deena's mother-in-law, Sylvia, is taken to Maycroft Memorial Hospital Emergency room because she fell. And now instead of returning home to Oklahoma, her doctor recommends no driving for two weeks! Once again, I enjoyed spending time in Maycroft. These characters are likable and so easy to relate to!
Getting to know your relatives better is a lot like trying to solve a murder mystery in some cases. And in this book, the two things especially have a lot in common. Deanna Sharpe and her mother in law have never been close before now. But when her mother in law is injured and needs to stay at Deanna's house during her recovery, they each get to see a whole new side of the other person. And they like what they each see. Oh, and incidentally they stumble upon the solutions to a few mysteries as well.
Deena's mother-in-law has moved in, she has a new investigation with Ian for a client accused of murder and a professional criminal may be stalking her. This is a good story but the relationships are a bit stilted and the characters are stereotypical. I enjoyed the story but I don't love the characters. The plot is well-constructed, the story moves well with good action and the mystery carries you right to the end.
I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the narrator and found it very entertaining. Life is never dull for Deena Sharpe, a retired school teacher turned investigator. Deena finds her next case by tripping over him in a haunted house. Through a series of misadventures Deena tries find out what happened to the town drunk. The suspense and humour never stop in this delightful tale set in small town Texas. Looking forward to the next book.
What’s Halloween without a murder mystery in a haunted house?
Follow along as Deena Sharpe unravels the mystery while dealing with the challenges within her own household. ( I love the interaction with her Mother-In-Law!)
This is such a fun series. I hope to see many more books from Lisa B. Thomas, and of course narrated by the fantastic Kelley Hazen!

Leave it to Deena to get in the middle of half a dozen things, make a mess of one or two, and still get the job done. At least she didn't get injured this time! She's a fun main character, with foibles and fumbles, and more than a couple self doubts, just like a good number of us. These books are a great way to spend an afternoon in a comfy chsir.
Sorry but this was really a whole lot of nothing. The plot was based on the assumption that the body she tripped over was murder and you know what they say about Assume. A whole lot of running around, secrets coming out and life being changed for some but it basically boiled down to a lot of hot air. This was really a non event although some of the changes (Sandra's new baby) were interesting.
This is another good clean cozy mystery by Lisa B. Thomas. There are times when you hold your breath and are afraid that something bad is going to happen to Denna and there are times when you want to strangle Sylvia. It all comes out in the end, though. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading a good clean cozy mystery.
Deena is on a roll to.clear an innocent young woman of charges of Murder. This is fast paced and full of crazy twists and turns. Loved this as it kept me guessing. Looking forward to seeing more on this series.
Sharpe Point (Maycroft Mystery #5) by Lisa B. Thomas was a great read. Deena Sharpe finds a dead body at the haunted house at the church's Halloween Carnival. She starts to prove a defense attorney's client did not kill the man. I enjoyed reading this book.
Fans of Deena Sharpe will enjoy this read as she deals not only with a murder but an extended stay by her mother-in-law. Read as she learns to handle the tricky slope with her usual tack. Nothing goes as plan when Deena is involved during Halloween.
Deena investigates the homicide at the Church's Hallowe'en haunted house. Red -herrings and several suspects held my interest. There are twists. I will be reading this series.
The characters are interesting and so real that you just can't help getting involved. Good sleuthing complete with twists and red herrings. I loved it!
I love reading the cozy mysteries and this story was great. The main character is wonderful and the story has some great twists and turns. I recommend this book to anyone who likes a good mystery filled with crazy, funny twists and turns.
This is an excellent example of the cozy genre. The story is well written with a great plot and lots of suspects. I didn't realize I jumped in the middle of the series but it is a good stand alone
