Rule #1: Do not vote for Mr. Popular.
Rule #2: Do not talk to Mr. Popular.
Rule #3: (Most importantly, and above all) Do not fall for Mr. Popular...

Liam 'Mr. Popular' Carter will always be the closest thing to the "walking plague" in my eyes. His cockiness seeps through his every move, and no matter how many state championships he wins with the basketball team, he will forever be a "loss" to me.

Because he's my older brother's best friend, I'm forced to tolerate him, and he's forced to tolerate me. In fact, unless my brother is around, we happily ignore each other every chance we get.

It wasn't always this way, though...

Several summers ago, we both attended the same summer camp. A place we returned to year after year. We became friends--close friends, but right when I thought he could possibly turn into my everything, he made it clear that what we had was nothing.

Now that's he's a senior, and I only have to deal with him for one more year, I've vowed to keep repeating the same set of rules to myself. Especially since he seems so hell-bent on wanting to talk to me for some reason, and especially since he seems to be staring at me every time we're in the same room together...

Rule #4: Always follow rules #1-3...
Rule #5: (OMG what the hell are you doing?) Do not KISS Mr. Popular...

➳Nicole London has brought a new contemporary romance to the table, bringing back those feelings of having a high school crush with the whole package of emotional attachment with Liam and Mariah…

➳In this second chance love story, Nicole London brings the attention to the reader that even through the toughest of times love is always there through the passion from a special someone, your family, or your friends. Liam and Mariah have known each other for a long time. Being next door neighbors, and Liam being Mariah’s older brother’s best friend has it’s perks and it’s downfalls. For Liam, Mariah is like a little sister that he has never had… at first, that is. With a two year difference, Liam being a senior and Mariah being a sophomore their relationship blossoms from the very bottoms of any equation. To Mariah, Liam is just another egotistical, high school jock who broke her heart once during their summer camp relationship. Ever since then, Mariah has not considered him his friend and he detests him. Liam on the other hand, even though he is known as the most popular guy in school, being every girl’s wet dream, he does not have that something that fulfills his heart. He had it, but she got away during summer at a summer camp. As well, he has caught himself in a situation that brings the aspect of family dilemmas to the story. He is being forced by his father to keep playing basketball so he has a great future when it comes down to picking a college. Although he does not have a passion for playing basketball or going pro, his mind is set on going to medical school. No one seems to understand his emotional and mental problems when deciding what to do. However, Mariah somehow let’s herself in and he welcomes her. Accepting her friendship is something that he has missed for a long time, and he does not want to jeopardize it.

➳After a failed date with a junior guy who tried to more than grope her, Mariah realizes that she just cannot let anyone in after being heart broken. After a “mistake” of a kiss, Liam and Mariah learn that they need each other as friends to achieve happiness. Even though they start off as friends, Liam, being the cocky, hot son of a gun he is, moves faster and attempts to be more than just friends with Mariah. At first she is reluctant to let him in again, after what he did to her that summer, but he slowly shatters her walls and let’s him in, marking her heart once again with his. Knowing how protective Zach, Mariah’s older brother, is he does everything he can, with the help of Liam, to back off any guy who could hurt her. But what Zach does not know is that Liam is protecting her and keeping an eye on her for his own sakes. When their love for each other begins to blossom, they have to reluctantly have to keep it a secret from Zach, fully knowing what he is capable of doing.

➳Their rocky road is one that those who have been in a forbidden relationship can understand. Past memories, people that are history, and moments that take up your emotional rocket launcher come present and that is something that both Liam and Mariah have to conquer to move on and keep their relationship stable. For a second chance at love kind of story, Nicole London has brought something that I did not expect. I am not going to lie, I was expecting more explicit intimate scenes, but she kept it nice and contempt which I really enjoyed as well. I can officially say that this is one of my favorite contemporary love stories, and I cannot wait to read more of Nicole’s work. In the back of my mind while reading this story, I was imagining who would conquer Zach’s heart and finally stop his bachelor, bad boy ways. Maybe is Kelsey? Hmmm, that would be a great spin off, or a great book! **wink wink**

I really enjoyed Nicole London's Resentment and while this is a bit similar, it stays within the parameters of high school making this a young adult/new adult book.

Liam is Mariah's brother's best friend but they have all grown up together. The story is told in the present with scenes in the past sprinkled throughout. Those scenes deal with their days at summer camp and something that happened between Liam and Mariah and the reason she now hates him.

There's almost a parallel with what's going on in the present. It's just that Liam has to work a lot harder to get Mariah to talk to him. It certainly helps that Mariah can't really avoid him.

description

Eventually, he breaks through and they start a relationship but Mariah wants it to be secret for several reason, her brother being the main one.

The dramas made me frustrated especially with what Mariah had to go through but they are resolved fairly quickly.

I really enjoyed Mariah's brother, Zack, and her best friend, Kelsey possibly having a connection? I would love a story about them!

So, perhaps I shouldn't have read this book right on the heels of Ms. London's book, Resentment.

description

This was so very similar to that book, that I was actually having trouble keeping the two stories straight while I was reading this one.
So much was same, same, same.

description

Smart high school girl who hates everything to do with the "popular" kids... smart high school jock who is super popular and has girls falling at his feet... he only has eyes for her... she wants nothing to do with him... he wears her down and they date. There's a break-up with too much misunderstood immature drama, blah, blah, blah. Throw in that the male lead is the best friend of the female lead's brother for some added drama.

description

Honestly, it was the damn near the same story.
The biggest difference... this one didn't venture 10 years into the future. So, this is essentially just set in high school with flashBACKS to them even younger at summer camps when they were children.

description

I was super disappointed.
I get that some author's like to stay within a certain kind of trope, but this was more than just a similar plot device. Will I read another one from this author if the blurb seems similar to these last two books?

Mr. Popular
Nicole London
⭐⭐

Safe Read. Geek meets Mr. Popular which is also my brother's bestfriend. I think Nicole London had been secretly a nerd and she had a crush on a certain Mr. Popular on high school. This is my second read on her and yeah there are similarities.

I can't say much tho, the book itself is a mix of present and past story. When Mariah was first introduced in the story, I knew there's a back story cause she keeps on metiontioning something "in the past", "like before" or some shit like that. As a reader of course you'll dig in.

I love a brother's best friend story, but this one was a little too immature for me. That being said I think the maturity level is probably right on for high school students, it just wasn't a win for me. I pretty sure it means I am getting old. :-/

It's kind of hard to write this review. I was sooo excited for Mr. Popular. Like, I legit went full on fangirl once I saw the updated cover and read the blurb. (Alex Prange--the cover model, is a fucking hottie and those damn eyes may have persuaded me a bit more....) I read the author's debut novel and saw potential but after reading this, I feel duped. Out of every character, the Coach was my favorite. And that's not okay... Unfortunately, Mr. Popular was lacking depth, and it was pissing me off how annoying these teenagers are. One thing I couldn't stand was this; Mariah came off so damn dense every time she sent a text to Liam when it was supposed to be for Kelsey. I've been known to do this once or twice. Believe me, it's embarrassing. But I catch it right away; either I don't get the answer I want back or the person says 'um, wrong person?' Surely this could have been handled better. It was such a huge mood killer for me. :(

One thing I could not get over was the summer camp scenes. I was not prepared for how young these two were when they first got together during summer camp. I think Mariah was 11/12 years old, Liam 13/14. Something felt off reading those scenes. It may seem like I'm bashing this book, but this is my opinion so please keep your pitchforks and rocks away from me.

Mariah hates Liam. After something that happened during summer camp (which wasn't really helping Liam's character once it came to light ) Mariah swore that she wouldn't ever let him hurt her again. Well, now they're english partners and since Liam is Zach's best friend (Mariah's older brother), there's no avoiding the other. Liam wants to be her friend again. She's not having it. After a sudden wardrobe change, every guy in school is interested in her and she decides on a date with a guy. Something happens. Liam saved her. And then this party happens and it's all too fast and I'm just annoyed with everyone's actions.

description

It's definitely a light, fluffy read. If you love high school love stories and don't mind all the whining and drama that seems to always appear in these kinds of novels then this would probably be something you'd enjoy.

I don't want to come off as a bitch. The author was generous enough to send me an ARC (thank you!) and I know she worked hard on this novel, but it wasn't for me. I needed so much more. I wish her much success and I hope her next novel is a hit for me.

I don't read a lot of YA and if I had been aware of that this story is YA and not NA, I'm not sure if I would've picked this up. The cover is a little bit misleading. The half-naked guy is at least 10 years older than Mr. Popular, Liam.

Both, Liam and Mariah, are very young when they get together for the first time. The author doesn't mention their age but they must be ~ 13/14 and ~ 15/16. This part was hard for me. I'm sorry because I know a lot of people like YA, but I don't enjoy reading about kids falling in love that much. Nevertheless, their story was sweet and the writing was fine.

The actual story, which happens ~ 2 years later (yeah, they are still kids -.-), is the old tale of the popular jock who is a good guy by heart and the nerdy girl nobody notices.
Liam was really a likable and lovable character. He gets 100 extra points for dealing with all of Mariah's crap. Her jealousy was out of control sometimes.

(Someone should show this girl how to send a damn text message - you'll understand when you read the story. These 'accidents' were ridiculous).

I really missed an epilogue. The ending was a little rushed. I would love to get a glimpse of their future. Did they make it with him going to college? Epilogue? Novella? Please? :)

If you like YA this is the right book for you. It's one of the better YA books out there.

Quick angsty mature YA.

This was good. It kept me reading that's for sure.

This is an older brother's best friend romance. Filled with cliche high school angst. Liam is Mr. Popular, and Mariah is his best friends little sister. This is sort of a second chance romance, but you don't really know why until it's explained. Much of the angst is petty, and could be solved with communication, but that's high school for ya, so I think the author did a great job.

If you love angsty mature YA, then this book is for you!

I didn't really like/love this one as much as I wanted. The story sounded exciting, the blurb sounded fun. But there were a lot of things that I just couldn't handle. Like in the beginning I just couldn't like Liam, so you have a girlfriend but you don't like her she is annoying why the hell did you start dating her? And why the hell if you come to the conclusion that you needed to break up with her wait until a specific date? Like dump the tramp immediately, even I disliked her from the start.

Also a thingy I really hate is that the h always runs without the proper explanation of the H. And this one had a lot of these moments .

I'm so sad to see this going down.. I was so excited and was so looking forward to this one, but we all now they can't all be winners. But we can be dreamers!

This was a good brother's best friend romance. Liam is a cutie and I liked that he had morals and didn't sleep around with all the girls in school like his best friend did. He and Mariah have a long, complicated history and I felt bad for her that things kept happening to make it seem like Liam didn't care about her and he did a poor job of explaining the truth. When they were together, I liked that he didn't push her into anything and let her guide what happened.
The story was cute and fairly well paced. I didn't love the male narrator's voice when he did other people besides Liam, but it was a quick audio.

This was random.... I had continuation problems... I was reading and couldn't understand if some events happened at the same time or they were days or weeks between them.... I also didn't connect with the characters and didn't understand the drama and somewhat hate between them.... It was an easy read and thankfully didn't take a lot of time....

No me gustó......

Ok guys I listened to the audiobook for this and I lost my fucking patience. Mariah girl what the hell are you doing why do you have the worst trust issues ever???? Girl you straight up have no character development whatsoever. Liam has been nothing but faithful to you yet you can't even give him the benefit of the doubt. The boy does everything for you and it's clear he treats you differently from his past girlfriends. You are an idiot!!! For not listening to him whenever he speaks the truth. Half of me wants to finish this audiobook since I have 20% left but the other half wants to throttle Mariah

Popular” yg pacaran sama Cheerleader “Miss Popular”. Mariah sama Liam sendiri sebenernya tu

Gitu lah.. gak berasa baca novelnya mba Nicole, karena bahasanya enak dan kocak2 bikin mesem2 gitu deh…

This was okay, good parts mixed with not so good. Yes, it felt young, but it's YA and I knew that going in.
Mariah wasn't my favorite character. I sometimes wondered what Liam saw in her, not to be mean, but she came across as two dimensional sometimes, while at others could be quite annoying and immature.
The book also glossed over plot points that were important, like .
Anyways, it was likeable, so 3 stars.

I get that this is a new author, but what the f*ck did I just read? This read like a book written by a 12 year old who got all her dirty info from OTHER dirty books. The main character was vapid and annoying, even her main issue of "betrayal" she felt from Liam had no standing and was blown out of proportion. And dear god the writing! The whole time all I could think was, she knows people don't actually talk like this right? I don't care that it's fiction, no excuse. If you are going to write an unrealistic cheesy book then go all out. I would have respected her if that was her intent but I KNOW it wasn't. "We are on track to being the top Mr. and Miss Popular" SERIOUSLY?! Who says that?! No, no, nononono, no, NO I SAY!! Just

I love New Adult romances. There is a certain innocence in the characters. This book was typical high school romance. Liam Carter is Mr. Popular, school's basketball star and Mariah's elder brother's best friend. She has a hate-hate relationship with him. When they are chosen partners in their english class, their interactions bring back memories of an older broken romance.
I did not like Mariah's naivety, but loved Liam's dedication and honesty. All in all a sweet and cute romance.

I read this 3 weeks ago and I remember nothing - says a lot about the book.

The synopsis is actually intriguing and from the little that I do recall, I just thought it was a bit whiny, not realistic and not even funny.

e.g. The heroine keeps texting the wrong people. Yeah, it happens, but not 10x in one story. Come on girl, you can do better than that.

It had so much potential, I'm actually disappointed.

The worst thing is that I can't even actively hate this book, it was too meh.

Okay, so I assumed from the book cover this was a book about college students or older because I'm pretty sure 99.9 % of 17 year old boys don't have a body that ripped. Well, he's an athlete, but like come one. Also, high school romances always have super innocent book covers and not with a half-naked guy😄

I rarely read the entire book blurb beforehand and just dive right in if I find it interesting enough. I still can't believe the characters are so young! Liam is 17 and Mariah is 15 or 16 (I think).

It's a second chance contemporary romance, which was super cute and funny. You know you have a crush on your older brother's popular best friend and then you get together, break up over a misunderstanding and then, try to give the relationship a second chance because you still looovveee each other!

This plot has been written by a gazillion of authors by now and I'm sure there will be more :) I don't care, I might just read them all - it doesn't matter to me if it has been done before as long as the author makes the relationship believable and executes it perfectly.

Nicole did a great job of endearing us to Mariah and Liam. I was invested in their relationship and loved their banter and conversations. The writing flowed and it wasn't clunky or boring. Zach, her brother and Kelsy, her best friend are down right hilarious.

Mariah is basically your gifted student-type who is mature for her age and is in the knowledge Bowl club (I had no idea this group even existed before I read this book.) She's smart, funny, spends a lot of time with her friend, Kelsy and working at her mother's bakery.

Liam is your stereotypical popular and arrogant jock who just happens to be super smart as well and also, has a horrible, shallow girlfriend, Ashley. Of course, he's a lot more than his public persona or we wouldn't like him, would we?

Zach is a player and I found it disturbing that he hooks up with more than one girl in one night on a regular basis. Omg, really?!? He seems like an ass hole, but a good brother, who maybe a little too protective.

Kelsy is funny and pretty much an outgoing, boy-crazy version of Mariah.

Yes, there is sex. High school kids have sex so people need to get over it. It's not explicit and there is like one sex scene.

I wish Nicole used dates or the characters age as a marker at the beginning of chapters that are about the past. I'm not going to nitpick any more because I loved this book! It was a quick, fun read while I recover from reading dense, action-packed fantasy novels :)

I kind of expected Mr. Popular to have a little more angst than it did after reading the synopsis. The characters had a history that wasn't always good and besides the first couple chapters- they got along pretty well. Which isn't a bad thing unless you go in expecting something else like I did. I actually did enjoy Liam & Ryah's book and it kept me interested enough. On the sweeter side than I expected.

Review by Lisa Kane

Liam Carter is the "it" guy-gorgeous, smart, talented-the one that every guy envies and every girl wants. He's Mariah Dawson's older brother Zach's best friend.

If I'm ever granted my wish of personally kicking one person off this planet, that person will definitely be Liam Carter. )Also knows as Mr. Asshole Mr. Popular) Star of the basketball team, top cheater on the national Spanish exam (there's no way he scored higher than me), and man of my nightmares, Liam walks through our school's hallways as if he owns them.

Mariah's a sophomore in high school and Zach and Liam are both seniors. Zach is overly protective of Mariah. And that's an understatement. Ever since their dad died, he's become a self appointed protector-he makes sure that no guy thinks he has a chance with her. Of course, Zach is a total manwhore. It's not just a different girl every day-there's lots of days that there's often two in one day.

What most people don't know is that once upon a time Liam and Mariah were close. They both went to the same summer camp every year and there they became friends. But then Liam broke Mariah's trust and she didn't want anything else to do with him. But they are thrown in each other's universes and have to deal with hanging out. I know they are young, but I have to admit, Liam has screwed up more than once and I can well understand why Mariah has a hard time trusting him.

Suddenly it seems that Liam thinks about Mariah as more than Zach's little sister. But she shuts him down every chance she gets. Can he break through Fort Knox?

The thing is that the world sees Liam as this crazy talented basketball player that has colleges lining up to recruit. But he has no interest in sports. He wants to study to be a doctor and he takes studying seriously. Yeah he enjoys the attention, but he doesn't need it. Mariah is the only person who seems to get that.

I actually feel really bad for him. It's like I'm the only one who sees how he really feels about playing basketball.

Of course this is high school and that means drama...lots of drama. Just when Mariah opens up her heart and lets down her guard-BAM! She regrets it and Liam has his work cut out for him.

"The only reason we haven't spoken in months is because you hold a grudge better than anyone I know," he says. "You really need to stop giving yourself reasons to hate me."

Liam is a good guy, Mariah is a treasure, but sometimes it seems like fate (and scheming ex's) is against them.

I'm not sure if this is going to become a series or not-I have to say, Kelsey is hilarious and I would love to see her give Zach a run for his money!

"And as a matter of fact, I've never loved any of my girlfriends until you. Like a lot, sure, but it was never like this."
