A young pre-med student graduates from the Ivy League and then refuses to be drafted into a war that has become a mistake. In prison, he slowly starts to evaluate his values and boundaries. During the process, his identity spins through a psychological whirlpool which leads him to set up barriers against the symbols, codes, and machines which previously guided his life. He fails to get a room in Harlem, but free falls into a different way of looking at things.
