**4.5 Stars**

Eleven years ago, Merk, before starting BUD/S training, and Katina, with a specific purpose  (not revealing as it needs to be a surprise while reading) each took a trip to Vegas and fell in instant lust, and maybe a little more, with one another. Though being together felt so right, both also knew decisions made while enjoying liquor aren't always the best and they agreed to end their union.

In the years that have passed, both have gone on to enjoy their careers and other relationships, though only short-term for each.  Neither have initiated contact since their divorce was finalized, nor have they touched tequila since. Though both have fond memories of their time together, albeit short as it was, and sometimes wonder what if...

After returning from a mission, Merk is shocked to see numerous missed calls from his ex-wife, but upon learning she's in trouble he immediately offers his help. It seems Katina uncovered some unscrupulous dealings at her job and has become targeted for the information they know she has. Due to the sensitivity of said information, and who it could incriminate, Merk and Katina aren't sure who to trust outside of Merk's co-workers.

When numerous attempts to kidnap Katina occur, Merk and Katina go into hiding. However, once alone the chemistry that still sizzles between them can no longer be denied and both realize they'd like to see where it can lead, though internally they know it'll be forever this time.

Can Merk keep Katina safe? What lengths will those behind it go to contain their secrets? What happens when the things Katina discovered are revealed? Will Merk realize the mistake wasn't the marriage, but in letting Katina go? Or will he lose Katina before having the chance at forever with her?

One-click now and follow a couple's journey back to one another and the realization that with each other is where they've always belonged. I loved the banter between Merk and Katina and that they could joke about what happened between them years ago. While I normally dislike instances of the main couple being with others during a separation, it honestly didn't bother me in this book as they were never truly a couple. They were "married" within a few hours of meeting, a decision instigated by tequila, and after their admittedly explosive time together, realized they may have acted impulsively *wink wink* and got divorced. After reuniting, both also realize that they never experienced the sense of rightness with anyone else that they feel when they're together.

This is the third book in the SEALs of Honor series. technically it can be read on its own but I think its better when read as part of the series. It is barely a second chance romance considering that Merk and Katina met in Vegas, married and then divorced, all in the same weekend. Now 11 years later, Katina needs help and the only person she thinks to call is Merk. It is Merk's natural instinct to help and protect so of course he comes to her aid. Of course, all of Merk's buddies know exactly what will happen between Merk and Katina once they see them together. It takes Merk and Katina a bit longer to realize they are right for one another. Filled with suspense and romance, this was a great addition to the series.

What can I say? Hmm… As much as I don’t like to say it, but I have to say that this one was not as good as the previous two books in this new series (Levi’s Legend and Stone’s Surrender). It was still a good book, a very enjoyable one. The suspense was good, especially in the last part of the book, though not so much in the beginning. The story flowed nicely, but…

I think my main objection was the romance between the main characters. They had history, but not a painful one. They’re friendly toward each other, no animosity, which was good. It was very refreshing actually that the history between them was not THE problem. They’re friends, then became lovers (again), and so on. However, I just could not feel the development of love between them. It’s like one moment they’re truly friends, and the next they became lovers. In the end, I could not believe their love to each other. But maybe that’s just me. I’m still (impatiently) waiting for the next book though.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. I was not compensated for my review, and I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed here is my own.

For all of those that I've read so far, I think this was what I enjoyed less. It just doesn't make sense to me, they've met and married a decade ago, never spoke after the next day divorce and all of a sudden they reconnect? I felt it lacked something...

The third book in the Heroes for hire series, Merk's Mistake.
These men and woman have been through a lot. After a mission had gone wrong where Levi and his men had been double crossed, they have all been left with injuries. Some are physical like Stone who lost a leg and some are not so much. But they all carry scares from that day.

Merk is heading back to the compound after delivering a prisoner to Washington. He has been liking having missions away from the compound and the two happy couples that are living there, but for the moment his been missing home. Over the last few weeks Merk's been thinking about his past a lot, especially his ex-wife. Well wife wasn't really the actual term he would use. They had only known each other a few hours before they decided to get married. What else would happen on a wild party weekend in Vegas. It may have been 11 years since they had seen or spoken to each other but he still wonders about her every now and then.

Katina is in trouble! People are out for her. Watching her. Following her. Emailing threats to her. She can't stand it anymore. She has to run and run now or they may find her and kill her. The only person she thinks maybe able to help, isn't answering his phone. Her ex-husband Merk. She hasn't seen or heard from him in 11 years since they filled in the paper work for there divorce. That was also the morning after lots of drinks were they decided to get married. He was heading off for BUDs training when they parted ways and she hoped he went through with it cause she could use him right about now.

When Merk finally gets a hold of Katina he can tell she's panicking and agrees to meet her in Huston at a bar. His waiting for her inside but she doesn't show. When he high tails it of if the bar and heads back to his truck he sees her across the road just before a van pulls up and snackers her right in front of him. Merk puts the pedal to the metal and is after her and her kidnappers.

Katina is scared that these people will kill her, in this van, with this all full driving. And it's not long before she has her leg impaled on something in the back of this van. When they finally stop and drag her out there in a car yard, obviously looking to dump this ride and get a new one. When she gets the chance she runs and hides even though her leg is in agony, she doesn't let it slow her down cause that could mean her death.

When Merk finds Katina he takes her back to the compound to help and protect her and just maybe, maybe they could pick things up from where they left off in Vegas.

I've never really been into Navy or Seals' books even if they are romance books. I have now read three books for this series and I'm loving them. Next on my list is book 4 of the Heroes for hire series. There is another series Seals of Honor which i would recommend to read beforehand (which I will be doing in the near future), maybe before reading this series of Heroes for hire. I found that in Levi's Legend which is the first book of this series, that some of the story was missing. But for this series of books as long as you have read the previous books you will be fine.

I would definitely recommend this book. If you are looking for something different than the same rich business man who gets the girl after losing her, you will love the change of pace in Merk's Mistake.

Their second chance…

This is the third book in the Heroes for Hire series that can be read as a stand-alone.

Just back from a mission former Navy SEAL Merk Armand finds messages waiting for him on his personal cellphone from someone unexpected, a blast from the past, his ex-wife of eleven years ago. They briefly connect and make plans to meet then he watches her get kidnapped from a parking lot before they can talk. The kidnappers made a serious mistake taking someone he knows, he follows, contacts the police, rescues her and brings her back to his team where he learns what she has inadvertently gotten herself into after convincing her to trust them and it’s serious trouble, her life is at risk.

Merk never told his team he had an ex-wife and he’ll never live it down now when they learn of his indiscretion right before joining the service. What happens in Vegas is supposed to stay in Vegas. Now that she’s back in his life the memories of that time resurface as does the attraction between them.

Katina Marshal was married for a night with the help of too much tequila and the Elvis Wedding Chapel in Vegas. A youthful night that went too far, they parted ways after filling out and submitting the divorce paperwork. She went back to college, he went into the service, neither touching tequila again. Finding herself in trouble years later she reaches out to her ex on the off-chance that he did join the service and could help or know someone who could. She made the right call but worries about involving others and putting them in danger. She’s in way over her head and doesn’t want anyone hurt because of her.

This story is the favorite of the three just published. I loved the dynamics between the protagonists, the banter was honest and amusing; they felt a calmness when together that could be felt, they reminisced about the one night stand which ended in a mess yet neither forgot or matched the emotions elicited with anyone else. They looked fondly at their shared episode with no animosity or trace of blame just amusement, they actually handled it well back then considering the gravity of what too much alcohol empowered them to do without regard for the consequences. The time wasn’t right for more for them years ago but what about now? What do you do when life gives you that second chance? Merk will just have to keep Katina alive to find out. As always these stories are filled with intriguing storylines and much action and suspense.

Another one bites the dust.....

So before I delve into this review, I got to reveal that I was given Merk's Mistake. In return, I have to give an honest review. I am developing a huge soft spot for these seals. I mean all of them. I can't help but pull for them. I want then to succeed in their professional and private lives. I love how each of them fiercely protect each other but the women they care for. They are one big happy family. They have been through so much together.

I don't know if it is because they are men or Seals or a bit of both, but these men would not only die for each but for the people they care about. This is something to admire.

So this one start out with a bang, just like the rest of them. Then we find something about Merk that I think he would pretty much like to stay hidden from his "family." We find out that he was in fact married. Katina, Merk's ex-wife, is a fierce woman, one who is as feisty as they come. She like Lissa have been through an ordeal. They both have had to fight for their lives.

Katina and Merk go great together. The sexual tension could be cut with a knife. I love how they joke and tease each other. They just go together like peanut butter and jelly. They fight each other and for each other. I think it is pretty humorous that she didn't want to stay at the compound in order to protect a bunch of Seals. These two like the others have so much passion in everything they do.

This was another great read by Dale Meyer. Meyer has a way to keep the reader moving though each turn or in my case swipe of the page. Once the adventure starts, it doesn't stop. I love it and I think you will too.

Happy Reading.

Merk is finally recovered from his injuries and is back dong missions however he gets a very unexpected call from his ex-wife asking for a meeting - problem is when he finally gets near her he watches her being snatched into a vehicle and driven away fast. Katina went to Merk because although they haven't spoken for years he is the one person she knows will have her back when she is in danger. It appears that they are both just as attracted to each other now as they were then - can he keep her alive, get to the bottom of the mystery and get their relationship back to the way it was years ago?

Wow - drama and excitement all the way through this story as they faced danger after danger. I liked the way they reconnected and took their time to see how things were although it seemed obvious that they would get back together - I just hope that this time they are sure of what they are doing as I would hate to see it go wrong in a later book in this series. Katina because really annoying in the way she kept things so close to her and hid everything until the last minute of them trying to work out what was happening to put her in danger - how can she trust him enough to help her but not enough to tell him things? Well written and easy to understand I just wish I could warm to Katina a bit more.

Merk's Mistake- Heroes for Hire

This is the third book in this amazing Heroes for Hire series with Merk, a Lengendary Security agent assigned to safeguard his ex wife, Katina. She had been working at a firm and found illegal money being hidden so she copied everything and ran calling Merk for help since she was fearing for her life. They were to meet and as they were talking a van pulled up and kidnapped her. Merk called the police and took off in pursuit of the van and saved Latina from her captors. This was just the beginning of their adventure as Levi's Legendary Security company were on the case to take down these people and protect Katina. In the meantime as Merk and Katina were on the run because people were being killed for the information that she had on her thumb drive they started to fall back in love. It was a fast paced love story with Katina even taking down the assassin that had gotten the upper hand on Merk. Everything turned out with Lev's company getting accolades for taking down this illegal firm and Merk and Katina finding happiness at the compound along with Levi , Ice, Stone and Lessa. I highly recommend this series and cannot wait to read about Rhodes and Sienna's love story next.

This is the story of Merk, one of Levi's former SEALs, and Katina, the woman he met and married (briefly) in Vegas just before his BUD/s training. The next morning, they realized the craziness of their choices and got a divorce, but Katina never lost his number. She discovered something at work that has put her life in danger, and she tries to get Merk to help her, and of course he does. Along the way, they remember why they were so drawn to each other in the first place, and they end up rekindling their romance. It was an interesting story, though the mystery part of it wrapped up pretty quickly. The heat level was low to medium, and honestly, it felt a little forced. I just wish there had been more of a slow burn. Yes, they were reconnecting along the way, but I just didn't quite "feel" the attraction between them when they finally made up for lost time. I think I'm going to stop the series at this point. Maybe I read too many of them too close together, but it almost feels a little formulaic to me. The stories are all different, but the build between the H and h is very similar to me.

This couple originally were quite fun when they first met, but the serious stuff now means Katina is running for her life. Merk is the only person she trusts at this point to help her, the attraction is still there between them and it is soon apparent that despite people being after her they are going to try some sort of relationship. There is action and violence plus intrigue along with the building love story. Not quite as much involvement with other members of the team apart from a more distant one, these two are mostly in hiding to keep safe. Another good read and plenty to keep momentum throughout, maybe not quite as emotional as the first two books but then Merk didn't have quite such life changing injuries as Levi and Stone which I do think was a contributing factor in them. I do feel you need to read all the books in order the get the full story and the continuance of the company and its evolving updating with both people and security. I am quite enjoying the ride and watching these guys fall one by one to strong, feisty women who are really on a level in their own rights but just need that bit of help the company can supply.

Have you ever wondered "WHAT IF?" Merk's past has come back and he starts to question his decisions. Katrina is in over her head and the only one who can help her is Merk. These two characters have sparks flying off the page right from the start. Danger is everywhere and it will take the efforts of the team to keep Katrina safe. This was a fun story despite the apparent danger. The sexual tension, the sparks between the two main characters and the history that makes them question whether or not fate is giving them a second chance makes for an exciting read. There is a lot of action in the storyline and a slow building of trust as the characters get to know each other again. Snarky comments, intense situations, family banter and teasing keep the story flowing at a good pace. Each new story gives clues as the future couples and lays the foundation for upcoming romances. Much to Levi's dismay, his band of brothers are slowly catching up to the "Keeper's". I love how this series is coming together and can't wait to see what happens next.
I volunteered to read this story for my honest opinion.

Merk's Mistake
Heroes for Hire Series Book Three
Merk Armand and his unit of former SEALs have lost trust since they were betrayed...and out of the navy from the injuries that caused. Thankfully Levi and Ice started Legendary Security so Merk and his brother SEALs can still do the work they know best and help people with their skills. He just didn't expect his ex-wife to be one of those needing help.

Katina Marshal was in trouble. Only one person came to mind when she needed someone to trust...Merk, her ex-husband. She hadn't seen him in years and didn't even know what he did. But somehow, she knew he was her only hope.

Legendary Security is starting to look a lot like Mason's group that they called the Keepers. Seemed like one after the other of their men were finding that one special woman who was worth keeping. Who could accept them for who they were and the work they did.

No one is more surprised than Merk when he finds voice mails from his ex-wife on his cell when he returns from a mission. When he finally reaches her, he agrees to meet. Unfortunately that meeting turns into a kidnapping with Merk on their tail.

After taking care of that issue all he had to do is get her safely ensconced at Levi's Compound.

Now the team needs more information if they're going to help Katina. She's not very forthcoming and has issues knowing who to trust.

The travels and dangers as Merk attempts to keep her safe as the information she finally gave them does what it's supposed to do. The attraction between these two is palpable and leads to much sizzling heat. There's also some laughs and fun mixed in.

I loved seeing all the guys and the visit with Gunner was very informative. It seems Katina has a gift that I can see being useful in future books.

I have been buying these in the collections so I'm now starting Rhode's Reward, book four in this series.

This was a great book. The hero and heroine first meet years ago in Vegas. They spend the weekend together and then decide to part ways, although they gave each other their contact information in case it was needed.

Over the years, each has had short term relationships and thought of the time in Vegas often. When the hero gets back from a mission and finds the heroine from years ago has called him, he doesn't know what to think. Does she want him back? Or is there something else wrong? Eventually they end up in contact and with the hero protecting the heroine.

What neither expected was the intense and sizzling attraction they still felt for the other. They, along with the hero's team, need to get the information the heroine has to the correct authorities and arrest them, but will they make it in time?

Katina Marshal is hiding a very big secret that has become dangerous. She calls the one person who can possibly help her ex-husband Merk Armand. Merk gets a call from his ex-wife Katina for help. Little did he know that his world was about to be turned upside down and right side out. Merk witnesses Katina getting kidnapped right before his eyes. Now Merk is racing to rescue Katina. Can Merk rescue Katina? What is Katina hiding? Can Merk make up for his mistake? Your answers await you in Merk's Mistake.

This series keeps getting better and better with each book. I love the characters and story! The characters and story are rich, bold, complex, fascinating, real, raw, compelling, honest, and brave. I can't wait for my next experience in this series.

Merk's Mistake

WOW! Each story gets better. This story is of Mark and his ex-wife Katina. These two had one wild night in Vegas which ended with them married. The next day they file for divorce. Eleven years later, Katina finds herself in trouble and calls Merk for help. He agrees to meet her only to have her being kidnapped right in front of him. Now Merk goes into protective more and the team takes down the company she used to work at. These two go on the run and when they finally get their relationship back in track, they have to deal with one last assassin. Once that assassin is neutralized, they start making plane for their happily ever after. I did not realize that Terkle was his twin brother. FANTASTIC job Dale! I would recommend this book.

Another great by Dale Mayer in the Heroes for Hire series, this one about Merk & Katina, a woman he married in Vegas when drunk and then divorced her the next day. She's in trouble now and after 10 years since that day they divorced she calls him for help, remembering he was going into BUDS training right after they signed the papers hoping he could help her now. Memories and the feelings are still there even after all this time and they wonder "what if" they had stayed married where would they be now. As they connect again while on the run to keep her safe they learn more about each other and talk about their future. But when the bad guys show up will he be able to protect her so they can explore their future together.
What I have been enjoying in all these books is the strong woman each one is and Katina is no exception, the easy banter and the way she fits in with the rest of the group along with the action, suspense the sparks that fly and the open and honest communication about their feelings with each other. Can't wait for the next one in the group to fall for the woman that completes him and their story.

This was yet another fantastic Seals of Honor book by Dale Mayer.

This book has Merk wondering if a mistake he thought he'd made 11 years ago, was indeed a mistake. And Katina thinking about the what if's. There are definite sparks flying with these two.
The sexual tension between them is there and one has to guess it's not over between them.

This book pulled me in on page one and held me there through the epilogue.
It is filled with crooks, danger, murder, mystery, action, romance and page turning drama.
There were lots of times I caught myself actually chuckling.

I love the understanding this team has for and with each other.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary ARC of this book.
I gave this book 5 ***** stars because I feel it deserves them.

I can't wait to read Rhode's Reward

*voluntarily and honestly reviewed the ARC I received from Maxwell Author Services*

Eleven years ago, a drunken night meant for celebration brought two unlikely people together in holy matrimony under the tender care of Elvis Presley. Shoot over to the present time, and Katina's in trouble. She calls Merk out of desperation, and the story begins.

I thought the rekindling was really fun to watch, to see them appreciate the improvements both had made in their lives. The bad guys were a little intense considering their positions, definitely different from the other two books, but it still wasn't as exciting. I did think it was cute to see everyone watch Katina and Merk play their parts out. Overall a pretty adorable read filled with danger.

The more I read of this series, the more I like it. The great thing is any of these books can be read as a standalone if you so wish. But I have to say that as this series progresses I notice growth with each book.

Merk and Katina are great characters. They are so comfortable with each other and their witty banter is very amusing. It lends a bit of comic relief when things start to get tense.

I really enjoy Dale Mayers books. Her characters allways draws you into the book and her writing is superb.

I received a free copy of this book .

I really love this series and Merk's Mistake sure doesn't disappoint. Merk sure is a dark horse lol! Obviously even though Merk and Katina had a chemistry that could withstand time even if they didn't know it. Merk coming to Katina's rescue after she obtained evidence of fraud etc while standing in for another accountant in her firm. The other operatives and their partners can see an obvious connection especially after they find out Merk and Katina had been briefly married before Merk joined BUDS.

Merk is one tough ex SEAL who has an ex-wife! Who knew. He hasn't spoken to Katina in 10 years but she calls him when she winds up in big trouble.

Merk and Katina are made for each other and even though their marriage was quick, the divorce came a year later but really they went their separate ways way before that year was up. Lissa went on with her life as did Merk but while neither really told anyone of the marriage, they never forgot each other.

I enjoyed getting to know more about Merk and Katina. I am hooked on this series.

From the time of Merk getting his surprise phone call to the end of this book, it was non-stop action, adventure, danger, suspense, and romance.

After a ten year span of no communication, Merk and Katina seemed to fall back into a relatively easy flow. The thing I liked about it was that they didn't act like it was no big deal. They each had uncertainties about how easily they seemed to fit together after such a long separation.

Of course, the people from Legendary Security rallied around for both protection and support. On to Rhode's Reward.

OK book

This book was all right. I didn’t feel that connected with the MC’s Merke and Katina nor did I with the plot of protecting her. The author didn’t really go into details of the white collar crime she stumbled upon and what it was about. She’s on the run since they want to capture her for the info she stole. Merke and her have a history of being married for 1 night in Vegas. The rekindling of their relationship was ok. Nothing exciting of heart felt.
This book was an enjoyable read but very on the surface stuff.

This installment in the Heroes for Hire took me the longest to read. But, only because I had to WORK!!!!! I resented every minute that took me away from Merk & Katina. They shared a past and an instant connection when they met up years later. Like the other couples in the other books, they are the perfect yin and yang to each other. Another hit out of the park from Ms. Mayer. I received an ARC of this book. I loved every page.

Amazing!!

I couldn’t wait for this book, and I wasn’t disappointed! These men are fantastic! I love how each one has a different skill-set which makes them an integral part of their unit and how each one views himself as part of a very special family. They support each other without question, cach man just knows, without any second thought, that his buddies will have his back. They believe in each other and are member of each others immediate support system.

Merk is supremely surprised when he receives a call from Katina. They met one night and woke up the next morning married. Neither thought they were ready for that and divorced. Now she is in danger. When he goes to meet her, she is kidnapped right in front of him.
What a way for his team to find out about his past. They race to find her.
Second chance romance hopefully. He has to keep her safe in order to find out if they can make a go of it.
