The hortatory nature of a popular commentary is never lost on me. I like sermons. But the lack of detail is most evident throughout the book. Meyer no doubt collected his sermons into this volume and they are good although for the modern in 21st century a bit outdated. The language is flowery and often unnecessarily so.

Even so I enjoyed the book and when he moved to allegory (which was frequently) especially to the victory which is ours in Jesus, the focus was clear and my salvation renewed.

Worthy Book

A book that draws us deeper into an understanding of the Israelites journey from Egypt into Canaan. F. W. Meyer’s illustrative writings opens new perspectives on the Biblical
narrative.

Meyer Mission #22
Well it's been 18 days since I completed a Meyer book and this is number 22 in the quest, and another biographical work from Meyer.
Some interesting thoughts again, and some quite inspirational moments that will help you along the journey of life.

An excellent devotional commentary of God’s faithful general, Meyers gives some wonderful doctrine & application that one rarely hears or reads now-a-days. He brings out many truths for life today from this old general and leader of the Israelite people as they conquered Canaan. Ours for many years, read much in preparation for teaching Joshua
