Two women whose pasts threaten to break them. The last thing they expect is to fall in love.
After a past betrayal, attorney Isi Addison is determined to live life on her own terms. She has no intention of falling in love. But when she meets Taylor at a party - well, lust isn't love, and one night won't hurt anyone, right?
Dr. Taylor Wallace has locked her heart away where no one can reach it. She knows getting too close is impossible when her tragic past could mean she's a ticking time bomb endangering anyone she loves. But then she meets Isi, and gets close to her once, twice...well, who's counting? It's not like it means anything.
But when the hospital assigns Taylor to be a consultant on Isi's malpractice cases, keeping emotions separate from sex isn't as easy as it seems, and that one night together keeps getting repeated. Again. And again..
Can they leave their losses behind them? Or will the past come to threaten their futures before they get their happy ending?
This is the second book I have read by Noelle Winters and though I enjoyed her first book, I felt this one presented incomplete ideas and thoughts. The good...I felt the chemistry between the two main characters was well done. Each are damaged in their own sense but those damages seem to bring them together. The supporting characters, Emily and Ellie, were good additions and helped a little with the story. Now to the other stuff. Warnings several spoilers below.
First who the heck is Damien really and why does he play the biggest nonexistent role in this book. Nothing happened with him at all. And honestly that kind of mad me mad. Isi's background is engrained in her parent's death, their debt, and Damien owning her...but he finds her and the nothing. I almost feel cheated.
Second there is the issue with that picture found behind the picture of Isi and her parents. Who was that other person. Never addressed but definitely mentioned.
Then you have the story between Taylor and Eric...well what little story there is. According to Eric, her family moved after Taylor's dad died but they didn't really if the Lake house was somewhere her, her sister, and her mom visited often enough. That should have been an easy enough find.
So he lets her live...why go after Isi and not Ellie...wouldn't Ellie mean more to Taylor. At that point how did he even know about Isi and Taylor's relationship.
I don't know. Maybe I am nitpicking at this book. I honestly did like it. There was just so much missing from it and not as much happening to progress it like I felt in her first book. It was a kindle Unlimited so I always tend to rate these easier...just because...Regardless, I will continue read her future books and if her editing tightens up her stories begin to flush out better, I dare say, I might even purchase them.
I found other reviews of this book very different from my own reading experience. I thought the plot had potential that never came to fruition and the lead characters backstory seemed muddled and confused in places. Sorry this book was a frustrating read for me.
Fair warning, this is going to be a lengthy review and it will contain spoilers. I am angry with this author. I am angry because this could have been a five star story if executed professionally, but instead it was published as what appears to be a very rough first draft never proofread let alone properly edited. I've encountered a lot of Kindle Unlimited books with this problem and I consider them trash, but this one upsets me because this story has a strong plot line. It has drama, suspense, and the thrill of mystery. It's main characters have sweet, touching scenes where they bare their vulnerabilities. It has sexy scenes that will make your blood rush south. This story itself is NOT trash. The form in which the book was published is. On top of many grammatical errors, sentences missing a word, sentences with an extra irrelevant word, pronoun switches and an overabundance of 126 eyebrow lifts, the author couldn't keep her descriptions straight. Taylor is first described as having waves of hair that reach the small of her back, then there is a point when Isi thinks it feels neat to run her fingers through Taylor's short hair. In a single scene Isi is sitting on her best friend's bed as they try to choose outfits, then Isi is in her own apartment straightening her photo on her wall. Another example is when Isi sits in a stool at the bar next to Emily and they talk over drinks, but when Isi becomes uncomfortable with the conversation, she stands and walks up to the bar to order another drink. Taylor at one point describes finding her Mother hanging from the door frame dead, and later describes finding her laying on the floor beside the couch dead. One of the biggest problems I have with the plot is that Taylor's Mom and sister die when she is 7, and she doesn't remember her Father at all so I'm going to estimate his death as around the time she was 3. Taylor remembers two little boys sharing holidays with her family, again around the time she was 3 or so since her Father had not yet had the drunk driving accident. I'm going to estimate that Eric couldn't be too much older than her then, probably in the range of Elementary school at most. Now consider that Taylor's Mom knew Eric wanted revenge for his family's death and was hunting them down. Taylor's Mom was moving around and hiding her daughters from a child? A child killed Taylor's Mom and sister? A child decided to let Taylor suffer as the last remainder of her family as is true for him? Then he waits 25 more years to reappear and torment Taylor by going after her girlfriend? It just doesn't add up. The issue of Damien was never resolved either. The backstory was a bit gray and it was dropped without any closure during the latter part of the book. Overall, I'm disappointed that this book was published before being polished and presented in a fashion that respects the story. By spending a little time cleaning it up, it would have been 5 stars for me.
Loved the love story but the back story mysteries need to be tightened up.
Taylor and Isi find what they need in each other. Their romance is more than the sum of its parts. As much as they fear and doubt even just dating, they thrive when they are together. Taylor used women and tossed them away like fast food wrappers. As an ER doc, the hospital was her sex filled hunting ground. Isi takes the opposite path. After leaving behind lesbian relationships in college and an ugly "relationship"with a blackmailer named Damien, she retreats from any love life. Her friendship with her paralegal Emily and her love for her dog named Niko comprise her social life. She lives to work. As a staff malpractice attorney for a Portland hospital, she comes into contact with the gorgeous Taylor.
Noelle Winters could have played it safe with this romance novel. As important as relationship dynamics is to the plot, there are other forces at work in the story. Two dangerous men want to force these women apart. Damien is Isi's stalker. His harassment is relatively passive but seems to be escalating. Taylor's way of life has two attackers. One is a frontal attack against her involvement with Isi as a workplace violation and the other has followed her from childhood. Neither Taylor nor Isi understand how dire their circumstances really are. All evidence of suspect activity is ignored or rationalized.
I found some conflicts in the story's narrative that require further editing. The mystery plotline would benefit from a more thoughtful approach. Even minor errors affect pacing when building toward solving a mystery, especially one with violent overtones. I was able to ignore this issue. I was very happy with this book. Two strong and accomplished women are faced with lifetimes of injury and pain. They allow love not fear to guide them away from danger. I left Falling for You excited to read another book by Noelle Winters which will be published very soon.
Utter waste of my time. If you find yourself reading this book and wanted to stop, go with that feeling! 1.5 stars, appropriately rounded down.
Spastic in plot, tons of poorly done loose ends, repetitive lines that made me want to scream. I kept thinking it would get better. The last 7% actually got worse.
Author spends a ton of time hiding the ball from the reader. That's not suspense, not mystery; honestly I don't think there was an outline going in to writing this book.
Desperately needed an editor. Too many dropped plot points. One character had hair down to the small of her back. Suddenly the next chapter it's short, and I don't think it was a haircut. Author would write steamy scenes for the first half of the book. Second half, none. Just fade to black. Wtf?
Best thing about the book was I didn't have to pay for it.
I wanted to like this story. The middle portion of the book has all the angst, drama and dialog that are enjoyable in a good book. But this story needs to go back to its editing stage. The description of the characters swaps and mixes in the first few chapters. There are several typos sprinkled through out the story which would be easily fixed with proof readers. The conclusion was rushed and did not wrap up Isi's dangers nor does the "bad guy" quite add up mathematically. NOTE SPOILER!!
If Taylor's cousin can be remembered by her as a little boy but her father killed his family in a drunk drivers accident. Then how, when she was 7 mind you... did her cousin kill her mom and sister? Was he groomed to be a vengeful great uncle to be a murderer at age of maybe 9? Yeah... some editing and working out a few story board issues.
Ok let me first say, I really liked the main characters . I felt like the story pulled me in and kept me engaging with them the whole time. I did think alot of their fears would of been resolved faster if they would of talked. And been honest about the past. I think the story would of been better if their issues were set to rest earlier than at the last moment. I did enjoy the twist knowing how realilistic it is to happen in our lives. This book had me frustrated, and upset, and rest feeling bad for Taylor as well as Isi . I think this is so worth reading. It was a great 2nd book to the Authors first book Shatter Hearts where one this one the two main characters also are broken and looking to find healing in eachother.
As lesbian literature goes, this is actually pretty good. I like Isi and Taylor, and their story is interesting. Each has their demons, although Isi's ex, Damien, I thought would play a bigger role, kind of odd having him in the book, other than as a decoy.
What I don't understand is why neither Isi nor Taylor thought to look into all the strange happenings, especially since Isi is a lawyer. Neither of them also thought to talk about their paranoias, so they could figure out what was happening. Lastly, the editing for the last 3 or 4 chapters got really sloppy, noticeably different, strange.
Overall, I enjoyed it, but am still looking for something better out there.
I've enjoyed this story.. The characters were done very well. The supporting characters were also well done. Good plot development. Only question I have is what did Damien do to Isi. Did he physically scar her or emotionally. Otherwise, this was a good story and looking forward to the third book.
I really enjoyed this book. I was hooked after her first novel. The story contains some really good snarky comments. A bit of mystery / thriller. Some smoking hot times. There's some grammatical errors but not too bad. I liked the book so much that I'll read it again someday.
This story was every romantic and mellow. Taylor and Isi are such different women and finding one another was t ::) e best thing for them both. The book is very sweet and you find yourself revolving with the characters. I was a bit upset cause it ended and i honestly wanted more on these ladies.
Full disclosure, I had to read a "smut" book for my category-based book club and couldn't stomach the thought of something like 50 Shades or any Harlequin-style "thrusting members" that I remember from my pre-teen days. Turns out lesbian boardroom erotica is just as boring and cliched as the rest. Now I know!
You know, I really enjoyed reading this book. It had some tough emotional issues in it, but I think they were handled well. There were a few things that were not really addressed at the end and that left me kind of puzzled. However, I really like the chemistry of the two characters and wouldn’t mind knowing more about atheism friend Emily?
An excellent romance with interesting twists, there's a mystery surrounding both main characters that slowly emerge as the story unfolds and they begin to trust each other, there's a cute dog in play and 🔥 intimate scenes that don't disappoint. I enjoyed this one and wouldn't have minded more.
Great characters, tortured souls. You have a great imagination creating this story. I want to know if there will be a follow up as I still have question s but I don't want to spoil the book for anyone else to read. I recommend this book very much. Thanks Noelle
I like sound of it when a person are played then met a girl she like them realize she is the one then stopped been as player.. Which it show true love that she really fall for her
I love this story. It's actually the 2nd time I've read it. I couldn't remember if I had, it was a while ago, so I started reading it again. It was just as good the 2nd time :-)
In the midst of loss and grief, comes true love. It’s easy to keep your heart guarded but if we give ourselves the time to let others in, love always will heal you in time and makes you whole again.
Was tossed between 2 & 3 stars. I like the characters and story had potential. But I agree with other reviews, had editing issues and sometimes I even got lost as to which character was talking.
Two women, each broken by tragedies in their families, find each other at a party and agree to have a one night stand. Each woman is terrified of loving someone, but twists of fate bring them together.
There are two major plot twists that I did not see coming, and which added to my enjoyment of the book.
