Rate this book
From USA Today Bestselling and ITW Thriller Award-Winning Author R. Cameron Cooke come the adventures of Lucius Domitius, soldier of Rome...

54 B.C., Gaul – A legion has been wiped out…

With winter’s grip upon the land, Ambiorix of the Eburones leads a revolt of the restive Belgic tribes. Through trickery and betrayal, the barbarian king has already achieved the unthinkable – the destruction of an entire Roman legion. But he finds the next legion he faces much more formidable. Legionary Lucius Domitius, and the stalwart men of the Seventh Legion, veteran warriors who have blooded their swords from the slopes of the Alps to the hills of Britannia, hold out behind the walls of their winter camp, repulsing one bloody attack after another. Deep within hostile lands, and outnumbered more than five-to-one, the legionaries pray to the gods that help will arrive before the murderous barbarian hordes overrun their works…

And their prayers have been answered. An army led by Julius Caesar is marching rapidly to their relief. But treachery lurks within the besieged fort, and Lucius soon discovers the conniving enemy king is leading Caesar into a trap – one that will seal the fates of the legions and all of Gaul.

In a cold, unforgiving land, the armies of Caesar and Ambiorix converge in a great battle from which only one general can emerge victorious…

An exciting, uplifting and memorable read.

This was a classic of a story and had me enthralled from beginning to end. I hadn't come across this author before but I will look out for him in the future. An exceptional read, well recommended.

Great Series

I've read so many novels set in the late Republic or Early Empire that I wondered how Cameron's would compare to the best. I shouldn't have worried. So far they've been excellent. Now onto the next!

Another one in the series read

A continuing story line mixed with established characters as well as new ones to keep the reader interested. A bit of a stretched storyline but overall a good read.
