Wow... this got exciting towards the second half of the book. Exciting as in, rather drama filled. I don’t think I’ve ever read anything by this author so this was a pleasant introduction. The drama though...I’ll say it was done well. It’s definitely something that would and do happen in real life. I’ll definitely be looking out for more work by this author 😁

Really enjoyed this book. It was my first by A E Ryecart, but I’m certainly going to check out others. Oliver and Jake were great main characters. I loved the May / December part of their relationship. Usually I don’t care for a lot of angst in a story, but it worked for me in this one.

Il cerchio si sta chiudendo sulla vita di questi quattro amici che ci sono sempre stati l’uno per l’altro; la famiglia di Urban Love ha trovato la sua strada nonostante le difficoltà e la sofferenza, riuscendo a reagire e a crearsi il proprio angolo di felicità e serenità. Dopo Zack, Archie e Rick tocca a Jake trovare la sua realizzazione.
Jake è un ragazzo con un brillante futuro sul piano lavorativo, ambizioso e competente, brillante e sicuro di sé, è una risorsa preziosa per la sua azienda, ma ha dei seri problemi di autostima e di dipendenza nei confronti di Charlie, un giovane che durante l’università lo ha fatto uscire del giuscio di nerd per trasformarlo in un bellissimo ragazzo. Charlie si presenta sempre quando vuole e allo stesso modo se ne va, a volte senza dirgli niente; anche se sa che questo rapporto lo fa stare male, perchè dura così da anni, Jake continua comunque ad aspettare una sua chiamata, così che si possano vedere. Il nostro protagonista è consapevole di essere come drogato e, nonostante gli amici per anni lo abbiano protetto e sostenuto provando a farlo ragionare, solo qualcosa di veramente eclatante riesce a scuoterlo e fargli aprire finalmente gli occhi.
Oliver è tutto quello che Jake vuole essere: carismatico, potente, acclamato, un uomo di successo che tra le mura di una sala riunioni riesce a ottenere tutto quello che vuole. I read Corporate Bodies a few weeks ago and had to take some time to mull it all over. I see lots of great reviews have been posted hither and yon-- so here I am with dissenting opinionzzz. Make of them what you will.
Fact: It can absolutely be read as a stand-alone. I haven’t read the first two books, I can guess who the characters were — but don’t feel as though I missed some Big Secret Arc Thread that ties them all together.
A few elements had me invested, at least until 80% until everything flew off the rails, but weighing out the good, the bad, and the ugly, I gotta say this book ended up being a...well...not good experience.
The age gap of 20 years between our MCs, Jake and Oliver, should have been a tasty treat as well as the Office Romance. And, gotta say, elder Oliver’s innocence was mostly sweet and endearing — and HOT As Fuck when being schooled by young Jake. Outdoor Sexy Times, y’all. The raw, quiet intimacy between these guys was also one of those things that makes me swoon.
BUT
Corporate Bodies is plagued with pacing problems and other peeves that overshadowed the best things it had going for it.
Ya know how in real life when A Thing happens and you tell a pal? Then later you tell Someone Else. And then later on Pal says, “Oooooh, ya gotta tell That Person what happened,” and Pal is FINE with hearing it again. Before you know it, you’ve recanted the story to a lot of folks. Because it’s a good story. In real life that’s okay. That’s one of the many ways we deliver ourselves into the world and bond with our fellow humankind — and end up saying things like “Stop me if you’ve heard this.” But in books, rehashing A Thing that we’ve witnessed unfold, essentially in Real Time, several pages later with Jake’s Pals, or whomever…is REPETITIVE. I don’t need to read about A Thing more than once. Jake’s pals might need to hear it at a later date — but there are OTHER ways to do it so that readers DO NOT. Because, as the reader, rehashing an incident comes across as filler that bogs down the pacing. Not to mention that it feels pretty damn condescending when we’re smart enough to have gotten the gist on the first go ‘round. If that had only happened once I might not have mentioned it. So…
There were numerous instances of stepping back in time to hash out the backstory. And places where I thought something was happening that ended up not happening for pages and pages. Delineations were unclear, and there weren’t many clues leading up to these abrupt about-faces or delays. So, again, pacing — where we take a few steps forward then a few steps back with a ferocity that nearly gave me whiplash and forced me to reread previous paragraphs to figure out where I was in the timeline. There’s an artform to serving this up to the reader in successful ways — because sometimes foreshadowing or going back in time is crucial, pivotal, or whatever. But this totally missed the mark in execution.
The main characters, Jake and Oliver — Lordy, I really wanted to love them. They each had some endearing flaws and elements of perfection that, in many ways, made them make sense as a couple. However, the ways they presented on the page, with lots of flowery phrasing, dramatics, and an abundance of stereotype and internalized homophobia only resulted in them coming across as caricatures. And as a reviewer, I should probably cite some examples to strengthen my position, but…honestly, I can’t be bothered. Just know I’ve got tons of highlighted notes such as Oh Please, Gimme a Break, WTF, Gag, For Real?, and Oh Fuck No. So…I’ll leave it at that.
Then.
Look, I don’t really have any triggers to speak of, and I don’t disparage those who do. In fact, I feel adamant that trigger warnings are a necessity for all of us regardless of sensitivity levels. I can usually find it in me read through the dark, violently hateful things in books IF IT SERVES THE PLOT. When an author is hell-bent on including brutal violence in any book, but especially romance, there is a massive responsibility to ensure the reader understands, feels to their bones, that it is a critical element. That the story would be lacking, that the characters have to scale that particular mountain to come out stronger individually and together. Here? All the No.
***SPOILER TAG because a THING happened in the last 80% that I can't not talk about.***
The story never recovered in that last 20% — though Jake did, apparently to spectacular effect. There wasn’t any mention PTSD, or therapy, or…anything — except, clearly, having Oliver back in his life was all the healing he needed. And yeah, I get people manage recovery and survival in different ways, but here I couldn’t buy it.
Not a win.

Jack & Oliver
Jack, un ragazzo dipendente da un uomo, una "storia d'amore malata" e Oliver, un uomo ormai diffidente e cinico nei confronti dell'amore. Entrambi si dichiarano liberi dal loro passato, ma è veramente così? Per Jack... Charlie è il primo uomo in cui ha creduto in lui, da ragazzo "sfigatello" lo ha trasformato, ma anche lui, a mente lucida, si è reso conto che non era l'uomo giusto. Per Oliver, una convivenza lunga con Brad ma impegnato come era nel fare carriera non si è reso conto di quel che stava succedendo nel loro rapporto. Due passati importanti. E uno di questi tornerà a mettere in dubbio tutta la storia di Jack & Ollie, ci saranno sbagli di entrambi, fragilità e convinzioni errate. Ma l'amore, anche con 20 anni di differenza, se è vero amore andrà oltre a tutto quel che accadrà non senza farci soffrire, emozionare, intenerire e arrabbiare. Bello!!

2.5 stars - I was quite enjoying this read until about the 70% point. That’s where it fell apart for me. Yes, there needed to be some kind of conflict for the two MCs, but this whole “misunderstanding” lasted for the entire rest of the book. One MC got quite mean and nasty to the other. I just didn’t enjoy it. The resolution was a couple of lines in the last chapter and then it was done. The epilogue was such a letdown. I absolutely hated Roland and there was no recourse for what he pulled with Jake. If I had been Oliver, I would have been pissed that my “best friend” treated the man I loved that way. Roland was a catty bitch.
I probably would have given this book 4 or 4.5 stars if not for the drawn out drama. That’s not my thing.

Smiling into Love!
Office romance, narcissist ex and bight smiles make the Jake & Oliver story interesting and sweet. Okay, my interest was finally captured, the more I read this story. I grew to like the MCs, even though I questioned some the behavior of a top executive. I’m planning to read another book in this series because I liked the side characters, too.

A Joyfully Jay review.

I’ll start by saying I’m a sucker for corporate romances. Make it a May/December corporate romance, and it’s a little slice of heaven. Corporate Bodies was a nice addition to my collection.
I found both Jake and Ollie to be likable. They both had major heartbreaks, but they pressed on even though it was difficult…and maybe even a little embarrassing. They gelled together nicely. Ollie was really hung up on the age difference, and I found that to be a little frustrating. It didn’t make me angry, though, and I got through it. It did lead to some pretty strong angst for awhile, but it was angst that moved the story along.
Speaking of frustrating…I wanted to reach through my Kindle and throttle Jake. I understand loving someone. I understand great sex. Poor Jake continued to fall for Charlie’s line of BS time after time after time. I wanted to sit him down, get in his face, and let him have it. In fact, I was thrilled when one of Jake’s friends did just that. My heart broke for him at that moment, but it was a relief for me. That left him free to be with Ollie and to explore life without being tied to a jerk.

I must say that this started out a little slow and I got a little bored with all of the business explanations but that didn't last. Once Jake and Oliver met I really enjoyed their story. Watching them both learn to trust and to let the past go was very enjoyable and catching up on the lives of Rick, Matt, Archie and Zack was fabulous!
I've read and really liked both of the other books in this series set in London and based around four friends, Rick, Archie, Zack and Jake. Therefore, I'm a poor judge of whether or not this can be read as a standalone. I honestly think that it can be however, I wouldn't recommend it because all of the guys are very present in this book. Trust me when I say that you don't want to spoil Loose Connections book one and The Story of Love book two. I highly recommend that you read them in order solely so that you can enjoy them in their fullest. They are well worth the time and money to read.

At 28, Jake Stafford has almost everything he's ever wanted, he's successful, has great friends and a bright future, if only he could shake his addiction to his on/off sort-of-boyfriend. At 48, Oliver Lester is ready to start again after ending a 20-plus-year relationship and returning to London from New York was the first order of business. Neither of them was looking for a relationship but despite the age difference and the way their last ones had ended, the attraction and chemistry between them make it impossible for them to resist for long. However, the past has a way of coming back when you least expect it.
I love May-December romances and this is a really good one. I really loved the chemistry between Jake and Oliver, they were great together both in and out of the bedroom. Oliver was older but somewhat more innocent than Jake, who seemed more self-assured in a sense. There were a few instances in which Jake felt more mature than Oliver, but for the most part, I think they were very even and that was probably why they worked so well.
The writing was a bit choppy and didn't flow as well as I would've liked in the beginning, but it did get much better the more we advanced into the story. The pacing was very good and the progression was very realistic, these two had to work hard for their HEA. It was lovely seeing Jake and Oliver fall in love and deal with their trust issues with the help of their friends. I'll have to go and find the first two books in the series, because I'm all curious about them now.

Neither of them was looking for a relationship but despite the age difference and the way their last ones had ended, the attraction and chemistry between them make it impossible for them to resist for long. However, the past has a way of coming back when you least expect it.
I love May-December romances and this is a really good one. I really loved the chemistry between Jake and Oliver, they were great together both in and out of the bedroom. this May to December romance was quick and with loads of problems. Both men had long term relationships that ended badly or upended.
Oliver's long term partner of 20yrs ended up having and affair and leaving him. Jake's sometime boyfriend only came around occasionally and never left him feeling loved.
Both met through the job and a connection was formed. However building trust as hard. I hated the start stop of this relationship. It also dragged on and on.

Not bad. This book was a little formatted but still popped up with fresh elements. Most books in the m/m genre so far haven't really touched the dark stuff: physical abuse, manipulation and stalking. There wasn’t any tags for it and it wasn’t heavy handed. Just laced at the edges, enhancing.

Smeraldine, “Più di quel che desideri” è l’atto finale di una trilogia molto bella, i cui libri possono essere tranquillamente letti da soli anche se uno dei due protagonisti, Jake, è già apparso nei libri precedenti. Ma procediamo con ordine: i due protagonisti indiscussi del romanzo sono Jake e Oliver. Venti anni di differenza e tanti problemi alle spalle.
Jake è bello, colto, intelligente e sexy. A ventotto anni ha già raggiunto e superato molti dei traguardi lavorativi che si era prefissato. Ha degli amici che lo adorano e che lui ricambia però… Ebbene, quando è tutto così bello, deve esserci per forza un però, e in questo caso si tratta di una dipendenza fortissima e annichilente che lo “tortura” da dieci lunghi anni. No, non sto parlando di qualche tipo di droga, ma di una vera e propria assuefazione nei confronti di un uomo che si approfitta di lui da sempre, senza dargli modo di riuscire a liberarsene. Dopo anni di soprusi fisici e soprattutto mentali, il giovane capisce che è arrivato il momento di dare un taglio a questa storia che lo ha solo spezzato in più occasioni.

Ed è così che i due, complice il lavoro comune, dove l’uno è il “Mega Capo” e l’altro un brillante “discepolo”si conoscono. Bastano pochi sguardi, una cena, un semplice sorriso e tra i due scocca una scintilla che darà via a un incendio di grandi proporzioni. Ma il passato di entrambi è sempre dietro l’angolo, pronto a balzare fuori e a spezzare un legame che, seppur bello e intenso, è ancora molto fragile.
Tra i due protagonisti è sicuramente Oliver l’anello debole della coppia, la paura di essere ingannato come gli è già capitato, è sempre lì a tormentarlo, e a ogni minima defaillance nel loro nascente rapporto, il lato freddo dell’uomo d’affari prende il sopravvento incrinando più, e più volte, la loro relazione, fino a quando, la bolla in cui vivono da qualche settimana, non scoppia loro in faccia. La paura e la prudenza di Oliver saranno il vero ostacolo a questo amore e sarà necessario un evento tragico per far si che l’uomo capisca di aver sbagliato. Che aver vissuto per tutta la vita mettendo sempre al primo posto il lavoro, non gli ha dato alcuna gioia, nessun senso di completezza. Cosa che invece Jake gli da, senza aspettarsi nulla in cambio.
Insomma, se vi piacciono i libri con tanto angst, dove però c’è sempre una piccola luce in fondo al tunnel, pronta a illuminare anche la più buia delle notti, questo è il libro che fa per voi. La lettura mi ha tenuto incollata alle pagine del libro con la voglia di capire dove sarebbero arrivati i nostri beniamini e se sarebbero riusciti a superare tutte le loro paure e le loro remore. Una conclusione bellissima per una trilogia che ha fatto sospirare molte lettrici che saranno ben contente di rivedere i protagonisti delle storie precedenti che in questo libro svolgono il loro ruolo di amici devoti in un modo che mi ha strappato qualche sospiro e anche qualche risata.

This was a beautiful love story. Two men who find each other and make an instant heated connection from across a crowded room in a restaurant. When they meet a second time it is in the boardroom where Oliver is introduced as the new Director of Strategies and ultimately, Jake’s new boss. Both Jake and Oliver have had a bad recent break up. Risking their hearts as well as their careers may not be the smartest move for either of them especially when they both have issues of trust. Even though there is a significant difference in age, the chemistry between Jake and Oliver hot. It is also complicated to say the least, but you can feel how much these two belong together despite all the obstacles. Exes making trouble and trying to keep their relationship secret from co-workers put a strain on them staying together. This story moves along rather quickly at a steady pace. We are given a truly happy ever after for these two characters reinforcing the love conquers all sentiment. The author gives us plenty of background information regarding the two main characters. I truly enjoyed reading this story.

È sempre meraviglioso, quando si giunge alla parola fine di una storia, sentire ancora le emozioni che ha saputo suscitarti scorrere libere. AE Ryecart ci racconta una vicenda splendida e ricca di suggestione, una storia per due personaggi unici e complessi, feriti ma forti. Ho letto e amato i precedenti due volumi della serie “Urban Love”, due storie particolari e indimenticabili, due vicende per quattro protagonisti tutti diversi e ricchi di spessore, uomini con le loro zone d’ombra e i loro pregi. Sicuramente “Più di quel che desideri” chiude una trilogia stupenda, regalandoci una storia all’insegna della dolcezza e dei sentimenti, delle seconde occasioni e dell’amore. AE Ryecart riesce con fluidità e scorrevolezza a raccontarci un amore che è speranza, un sentimento che è paura, scivolando con maestria in momenti ricchi di tensione narrativa, pericoli e dolore.
Assistiamo con leggiadria ai primi approcci, i primi sguardi e sorrisi che sanno regalarci momenti di divertita tenerezza. Sullo sfondo della loro titubanza si affacciano paure e speranze. Le ferite che li contraddistinguono ne hanno minato ogni fiducia amplificando le incertezze e le inadeguatezze che ancora vivono nel profondo di loro stessi, piccole crepe in un’autostima che li rende ciechi verso coloro che non li meritano.

È sempre meraviglioso, quando si giunge alla parola fine di una storia, sentire ancora le emozioni che ha saputo suscitarti scorrere libere. AE Ryecart ci racconta una vicenda splendida e ricca di suggestione, una storia per due personaggi unici e complessi, feriti ma forti. Ho letto e amato i precedenti due volumi della serie “Urban Love”, due storie particolari e indimenticabili, due vicende per quattro protagonisti tutti diversi e ricchi di spessore, uomini con le loro zone d’ombra e i loro pregi. Sicuramente “Più di quel che desideri” chiude una trilogia stupenda, regalandoci una storia all’insegna della dolcezza e dei sentimenti, delle seconde occasioni e dell’amore. AE Ryecart riesce con fluidità e scorrevolezza a raccontarci un amore che è speranza, un sentimento che è paura, scivolando con maestria in momenti ricchi di tensione narrativa, pericoli e dolore.
Assistiamo con leggiadria ai primi approcci, i primi sguardi e sorrisi che sanno regalarci momenti di divertita tenerezza. Sullo sfondo della loro titubanza si affacciano paure e speranze. Le ferite che li contraddistinguono ne hanno minato ogni fiducia amplificando le incertezze e le inadeguatezze che ancora vivono nel profondo di loro stessi, piccole crepe in un’autostima che li rende ciechi verso coloro che non li meritano.

Okay, I'm officially giving up on this. It's not the worst book I've ever read, but I don't really like it, either? There's nothing wrong with the plot itself — I can get behind the idea pretty easily — but the problem is the execution.
First of all, there's very little conflict. I mean, yes, you have Charlie who is the shittiest ex ever to ex, and Oliver's recent breakup with his long-time boyfriend, but, not much happens? Most conflicts are solved immediately through a deep and very open conversation and, when I stopped reading at the halfway point, I seriously couldn't see what the next half of the book was supposed to be about. Most of the roadblocks had been handled, so the only option would be come up with a completely new problem (unless Charlie would decide to show up again and ruin everyone's day) and I just... I'm not interested? Which, honestly, could just be me. Perhaps I just don't understand the pacing and structure of the plot.
Second, I don't really like the writing. It's cringy and far too dramatic for the scenes and situations actually being shown, bordering on purple prose. Also, certain words and expressions kept being repeated to the point where they became annoying and almost lost all meaning. Especially since some of them aren't that common, which means that every use is all the more noticeable.
In short, this didn't grab me enough to make me want to continue. I read about 163 pages or something, and had about half to go. That's just too much when the writing or plot doesn't agree with me. So yeah. I'm dumping it.

Both men are hunted by ghosts from their past. These ghosts don’t stay in the past, however. They keep on emerging in their journey towards each other.
I loved this book. The story was well written. The words flowed on the pages. The characters were real and very likable. They were not afraid to reveal their true nature, their doubts and vulnerability. I really felt the connection between the two men. Their difference in age was not a problem in any way. Against all odds they were trying so hard to start a life together. They got through some angsty moments. It took them a lot of communication, self reflection and trust to get there, but they did.
Highly recommended.

A great story that will grab your heart from page one. A beautiful love story, realistic and challenging with the right amount of sex and a whole lot of love and romance. Everyone has a past, but these two amazing men were being haunted by it. From the moment these two laid eyes on each other they knew their lives were about to be changed. Oliver was a very dynamic, successful man brought into a company as the Director of Strategy. Jake was an exceptional employee who was already making a name for himself and was promoted to work on Oliver's team. The two get together even though the odds were against them..:there was at least 20 years difference in age and their exes were a thorn to their relationship. Jumping to conclusions and a fear of losing Jake, Oliver finds himself distraught and lonely. And the unimaginable happens to Jake. Can these two find their way back to each other? Loved this story!!! Very well written. Highly recommend❤️

Oliver e’ un astro aziendale, i suoi successi lavorativi lo precedono, dopo una storia amorosa di quasi 20′ anni a new york conclusa malissimo, decide di tornare a Londra. L’ unico futuro che immagina per se e’ dietro ad un pc aziendale, e serate passate a lavorare. Un giorno in un bar incrocia lo sguardo con Jake, molto piu’ giovane di lui, un collega di lavoro brillante ma ancora sul trampolino di lancio. Tutto tra loro e’ proibito, sia il la differenza d’ eta’ , sia l’ ambito lavorativo, sia il loro passato sentimentale che pesa gravosamente sia sul presente individuale,sia sulla coppia. Ho trovato il libro molto scorrevole, i personaggi sono molto ben costruiti, i contorni, i paesaggi e le vicende possiamo trovarle nella vita di tutti i giorni ed anche le paure di questi personaggi ed i loro problemi e debolezze possono tranquillamente essere i nostri. Ogni tanto ho trovato delle ripetizioni nei concetti ma poi qualche colpo di scena qui e li lo hanno fatto perdonare.

I enjoyed this story. I liked that younger Jake was often the one to reassure and give confidence about their relationship to the older Oliver. There were a fair number of discussions about emotions and feelings although I do think everything would have gone better for them if there were more. Easy to read, feel and understand. This was an MM story with mature content.

Le cinque stelline sono per il libro e la serie in generale, serie che ho davvero adorato, un libro più bello dell’altro. Questa scrittrice entra definitivamente nella lista delle mie preferite! Bellissime le descrizioni di Londra, città che adoro e ho visitato diverse volte.
Il libro parte in modo molto più soft rispetto agli altri ma ora della fine anche qui succedono fatti gravi e scendono le lacrime, adoro la parte dramma che caratterizza l’autrice, è capace di emozionarmi tantissimo. Sono contenta che Jack abbia avuto il suo lieto fine con un uomo che lo ha saputo comprendere e amare e nonostante mille difficoltà e la differenza d’età tutto si sia concluso bene. Ho adorato il loro primo incontro fatto di sguardi e di un sorriso che ha aperto un mondo. Spero che vengano tradotti altri suoi libri.

Once I started this book I couldn't put it down. It has everything I was looking for, the age difference, the interfering ex, the emotional connection, office romance. You name it and this book had it! What I loved most about this novel wasn't just the romance but how the characters had to deal with a very real fear. I've read stories of a similar design before and what they had an impossible situation to deal with. This wasn't like that, instead, there were real issues both characters needed to overcome in order to make their relationship work. I would recommend this story.

Ollie and Jake's story is so perfectly imperfect. Love, trust and strength built upon the ashes of broken relationships, insecurities self doubt and tears. Life is never easy but it's the downs that make the ups spectacular!

Last installment of a series, and arguably the best, but it still suffers from the same things I found in the other books. These were not annoying enough to not read this last one, so there is more to like than to dislike.
