No he leído Asesinato en el Orient Express, pero me da la impresión que esta es una versión infantil del mismo. Si no es así, háganmelo saber :3
La historia no se anda con rodeos. Mataron a alguien en el tren y será un niño quién se encargue de darle solución al misterio. Mismo que, aunque quizá no sea el más difícil de resolver, tengamos bien en claro que es un niño quien sigue la pista de los hechos ¡Es que es increíble!
Dicho lo anterior, me parece que es una de las mejores historias del género policíaco, pues nos entrega al mejor detective del mundo.

Para mi el mejor libro de la saga de los Misterios de Tom y Liz Austen. Un muy buen libro para iniciar a niños y jóvenes en la novela de misterio. Recuerdo haberlo sacado infinitas veces de la biblioteca para leerlo una y otra vez. Simplemente genial.

“Murder On The Canadian”, 1976 is Eric Wilson’s first; a school teacher who believed pupils lacked exciting material to read. This “Hardy Boys” fan moved around the country because his Dad was an RCMP officer and fulfilled the need successfully with mysteries being released to this day. I’ll make a few minor critiques of this story, with certainty that Eric leaves superior ones to explore since this impressive début.
For instance, I recognize the ‘Stratemeyer Syndicate’ (“Nancy Drew”) technique of contriving an explosive first page. While the pace can’t help but be speedy, I find these thrills pointless if they have nothing to do with the plot. I am adamant that as the opener to a whole series and new character, ‘Tom Austen’; it would augment enjoyment to begin with descriptions and introductions. We’re smacked with a ticking bomb without knowledge of how old Tom is, why he’s travelling alone, nor that a class nemesis named ‘Dietmar’ goads him. When we shift to the ‘enemy’ grinning at Tom with the package; for all we know he is a forty year-old criminal set on killing him.
I overlook the coincidence of rivals riding the same train. It’s certainly normal for male friends to rib each other. However for boys not profiled as being friends and seeking to ridicule one another; it struck me as unlikely they’d pair up on a cross-country trip. The behaviour and lip they launched at adults on board bothered me and was out of character for boys of the 1970s. If Eric meant to model Tom after the respectful ‘Hardies’, a hero of any age needs to possess honour. The mystery is impressive. The motive was odd but the resolution is impossible to guess, doled out in a startling climax, with numerous people we could reasonably suspect.

The first Eric Wilson book I read, Escape From Big Muddy, was in grade six. The kid who sat next to me raved about the book, then handed her copy over and told me to read it. I remember taking the book home and reading it in a night. Of course I read the 15th book first, but it was a great way to get myself into the series because the story was fast paced and involved the main character taking a road trip across Saskatchewan in order to solve a mystery. At the time, I remember being fascinated by these places and wanting to visit them when I was older.
I recently decided to re-read the Tom and Liz Austen mysteries just for the heck of it. Except this time i'd go in order. Unfortunately, this book didn't capture my interest as it did then (of course I should've expected this). Still, i'm disappointed. These books always made me feel nostalgic, but now i'm afraid re-reading them will ruin the series for me. I think i'll still read my favourite ones though.

Buena intriga, y me encanta que Tom lea novelas policiales y se inspire en autores para resolver el caso :)

Se me hizo eterno, pero igual habían partes donde el misterio agarraba firmeza. Es entrete también el notorio fanatismo por este género, por lo que puede servir como un buen detonador para generar interés en este mundo de pistas y acertijos.
Lo que más me impresionó fue el curso terminando la prueba de este libro en menos de media hora. Las notas son otra cosa. Tengo que ir a revisar pero quiero descansar un poco más.

misterio entretenido, gracias al punto de vista del protagonista estás dudando constantemente del señor con maletín, con el típico twist de las novelas de detectives que el más sospechoso resultaba ser inocente.

I was in elementary when Eric Wilson visited my tiny rural school. It was a oil town in Northern Alberta; I can still remember the waxy smell of the polished gymnasium floor. For months before the assembly we had been pressured to read and enjoy his books. I wasn't all that thrilled with the book at the time, being more into books like "Dracula Doesn't Drink Lemonade."
I remember that visit vividly and still think about it; this was the first time I had met an author. He shared a reading from a book and talked to us about the struggles of trying to get published. Over and over his book was turned down by publishers! His students (he was a teacher at the time I believe) assured him that his writing was wonderful and encouraged him to continue trying. Finally someone green-lighted his story and he became an 'author'! Wow!
My mind was blown. I no longer wanted to be a witch when I grew up; I was going to be an author.
Twenty years later I am a vaguely aspiring writer and still find that visit inspiring. I was thrilled to find a 40th Anniversary Edition of "Murder on the Canadian" at my local bookstore. This book drew me back to my childhood; the part where I was a kid forcing myself to get through the story.
I read several of his books as a kid and I remember loving his later works like "Vampire of Ottawa." However, I've lost track of the number of times "Hardy Boys" was referenced in this book and there are problems with the story. There are glaringly huge logistic problems. My final verdict is this edition of the book satisfied my nostalgic desire the same way that Popeye's candy sticks do: wonderful in theory but terrible and chalky once you bite into it.
Once again, I appreciate Eric Wilson for inspiring Canadian youth to write. Thank you for that.

I brought this book with me as I rode The Canadian from Toronto to Vancouver - the cover attracted much attention! Overall, it's a cute, quick read. I can see why it appeals to middle schoolers. The writing is clunky and the hero is dumber than he ought to be for his age, but the train setting was great and the ending was exciting. I'll continue with the series if I can find the books in the US.

A pesar de que lo leí hace un tiempo, todavía recuerdo lo mucho que lo disfrute. Lo encontré en la biblioteca de mi pueblo y decidí leerlo para ver como se desarrollaba la historia. Quede bastante satisfecha. Es una lectura ligera y corta, perfecta para un bloqueo lector. Las escenas pasan rápido y cuando menos te lo esperas ya terminaste el libro. Ademas, la trama va directo al grano, no se queda enredada en escenas o descripciones innecesarias.
Y creo que es exactamente eso lo que le falta al libro, dar mas información sobre el escenario y los personajes. Aunque tal vez eso sea solo cosa mía. No es como si eso me haya arruinado la lectura, pero por favor, literalmente todo lo que se sobre el protagonista es que es pelirrojo.
Si lo que quieres es una novela corta sobre un chico resolviendo un crimen, eso es justo lo que encontraras. Así que no esperes un misterio difícil o un plot-twist de película.
Y creo que es exactamente eso lo que le falta al libro, dar mas información sobre el escenario y los personajes. Aunque tal vez eso sea solo cosa mía. No es como si eso me haya arruinado la lectura, pero por favor, literalmente todo lo que se sobre el protagonista es que es pelirrojo.
Si lo que quieres es una novela corta sobre un chico resolviendo un crimen, eso es justo lo que encontraras. Así que no esperes un misterio difícil o un plot-twist de película.

Un giorno vagavo tristemente per la biblioteca delle scuole medie, sperando di trovare un libro abbastanza babbuoffo da leggere per le ore di laboratorio.
Soltanto qualche anno dopo scoprì che il titolo e la trama richiamassero fortemente una delle opere maggiori della Christie.
Come ogni libro del battello a vapore, prosa e lessico sono veramente semplici semplici.
La lettura è agevolata da un protagonista simpatico, e da comprimari funzionali per il tipo di storia narrata.
Voglio dare la sufficienza perchè, a distanza di più di 10 anni, ricordo il colpevole.
Suggerita la lettura per under 14.
Soltanto qualche anno dopo scoprì che il titolo e la trama richiamassero fortemente una delle opere maggiori della Christie.

My daughter chose this book on which to do a book report. I had read it a long, long, long time ago and thought I'd read it again to help her where I could. I remember how much I enjoyed reading Eric Wilson books when I was her age. I have been fortunate to have traveled and lived all across Canada and as his books take place at famous locations in this country, it is fun to say "oh, I've been there" when reading about it.
My tastes have evolved since elementary school, but the books are still fun, especially for kids in the 8-12 year old range.

Muy buen libro bastante interesante tiene una trama bastante enganchadora ante mi perspectiva, me gusta el misterio que tiene este libro y tiene un final que para mi fue bastante inesperado por eso le doy 4 de 5 estrellas porque a pesar de ser un libro bastante bueno hay algunas partes un poco largas que no encuentro necesarias

Al igual que me ocurre con los pocos libros que leí de niño -a mi lo de la lectura empezó a engancharme ya siendo adolescente-, guardo un grato recuerdo de este libro que ahora, como adulto, a penas puedo valorar. Muy recomendable para niños.

Leí este libro por primera vez en mayo de 1987 (ha llovido un poco desde entonces), y volví a leerlo el mes pasado para el #ClubClásicosJuveniles #ClubClasicosJuveniles. Lo disfruté mucho cuando niña, y ahora también.
🗯️Tom, tras acabar el colegio, sube al «Canadian Express» para ir a casa de sus abuelos. Es el tren con mayor recorrido del mundo. Durante el trayecto, y al poco de partir, una pasajera aparece asesinada. Como a Tom le encantan las novelas policiacas decide investigar el asesinato.🗯️
Historia bastante entretenida y de ritmo ágil. Yo he descubierto al culpable porque supongo que estaba guardado todo en mi memoria, desde niña 😂.

Asesinato en el Canadian Express es una entretenida novela de misterio destinado al publico infantil y juvenil.
El protagonista es Tom Austen, un chico que viaja en el Canadian Express, que va de Montreal a Vancouver, para visitar a sus abuelos.
Durante el viaje se produce un asesinato. La víctima es una joven mujer, y su esposo es acusado del crimen. Pero Tom, aficionado a las novelas detectivescas, - no faltan alusiones a autores y personajes clásicos del género - , que interactuó con ellos y con otros pasajeros, cree que el acusado es inocente. Comienza entonces a investigar y a buscar pistas, para dar con el verdadero culpable.
El relato está bien llevado, y se lee rápidamente, tiene acción, y los hechos y personajes son mostrados desde el punto de vista del protagonista lo que permite a los lectores una fácil identificación con él. Hay personajes sospechosos, cuchillos ensangrentados, persecuciones y disparos, situaciones graciosas y, lógicamente, la solución del caso al final.
En su conjunto, entonces, es una muy buena opción para que los chicos y jóvenes se inicien en la ficción detectivesca.

¿Cómo reaccionarías en una situación similar?
Después de leer este libro, la situación en la que Tom esta puesto es una situación muy riesgosa. A una edad temprana, esta puesto en una situación en la que está arriesgando su vida. Un asesino lo puede matarle en cualquier momento. Si yo estuviera en una situación similar a él, al principio yo estaría en pánico. Ser un detective es un trabajo duro porque hay tantas pistas para encontrar y no se sabe si va a llevar a cualquier parte. No tendría paciencia hacer preguntas a los testigos. Yo tendría difícil confiar en la gente porque ¿que pasa si no son honestos conmigo. Sé que pensaría demasiado. Me estresaría demasiado y no podría dormir porque alguien acaba de matar a alguien. Si me di cuenta de quién era el asesino, pediría ayuda. Necesito al menos 2 personas conmigo para ayudar a arrestar al asesino. Sabiendo cómo soy, no haría un buen trabajo con un caso de asesinato. Reaccionaría de manera negativa y querría dejar mi trabajo.

“Asesinato en el Canadian Express” es un libro de lectura rápida y bastante ligera, teniendo en cuenta que está dirigido a niños a partir de los 9 años. A pesar de ello, la historia logra atraparte desde el principio, al punto de que resulta difícil soltar el libro una vez que comienzas a leerlo. Mantiene la intriga sobre lo que va a suceder y consigue que el lector se mantenga expectante durante los momentos de tensión.
Quizás el primer tercio del libro resulta un poco lento, pero a partir de ahí la trama se vuelve mucho más interesante. En general, es una lectura entretenida, atrapante e ideal para disfrutar en un solo día. Además, considero que es una excelente forma de introducirse en el mundo de las novelas de misterio de manera sencilla y divertida.
Digo esto desde mi experiencia personal, ya que es la primera novela de este tipo que leo. Antes no me llamaban la atención las historias de misterio, pero después de leer este libro, siento que podría animarme a explorar historias más complejas dentro del mismo género.

I really enjoyed this series when I was younger, and it was great to be able to share it with my kids. It's a good introduction to Tom Austen and his detective aspirations. The case is interesting--beginning a series with a murder--and there are enough suspects to keep the reader guessing. The kids found the dialogue entertaining (particularly the joking threats made by a few characters), and they were surprised with the outcome. I think it followed the Hardy Boys formula pretty well, and it ended with an explanation of how all of the clues fit together. I think it would benefit from mentioning more of the cities they travel through, although the map of The Canadian's route was nice. This book brought back fun memories of reading Eric Wilson's books (as well as seeing him multiple times during his school visits and getting to talk with him about writing afterward--in fact, this copy of the book is autographed).

Considerando que es un libro infantil/ juvenil he de decir que es uno muy bueno, es entretenido, con una trama fácil de seguir y cortito.

Creo que recomendaría esta historia principalmente para alguien joven iniciando en este tipo de historias, o para alguien que quiera una lectura ligera y divertida.
Me gusto mucho la forma en la que te dan pequeñas pistas para conducirte hasta al asesino entre los diversos personajes, espero que ustedes también descubran la culpable.
