Damaged and left for dead, one spaceship must stop an alien planet-killer headed for Earth.

As the alien vessel once known as the MOAD turns its deadly sights towards Earth, the survivors of the first human mission to Europa face their greatest trial yet. Stranded, and under constant attack, acting commander Jack Kildare is determined to return the Spirit of Destiny safely to Earth. But when his desperate warnings go unheeded at home, Jack is forced to confront the reality that he and his crew will have no place to return to if the alien ship arrives at Earth unchallenged.

Forgotten, alone and left to die without any assistance from Earth, Jack and his surviving crewmates have no choice. Embarking on a life-or-death pursuit of the alien behemoth that now has Earth in its crosshairs, they find help in the oddest of places… a group of dissident aliens brought on board the Spirit of Destiny. Unfortunately for the crew, the alien passengers dangerously overload the ship's life-support capacity, and Jack must fight off challenges to his authority from the very people he's trying to save.

With the heavily burdened Spirit of Destiny launched into a perilous homewards trajectory, the chase is on. Can Jack and his ragtag crew manage to beat the impossible odds of catching up to the alien planet-killer? Or will his ship and crew’s survival be imperiled by his generous decision to help the refugees? The future of humanity depends on the Spirit of Destiny ... if it can reach Earth in time ... and if there's anyone left alive on board when it gets there.

ABOUT SHIPLORD: Shiplord is the third book of a fast-paced quartet of technothrillers. It contains hard science fiction elements in the tradition of The Martian and other science-based thrillers. You won't need a calculator to follow the story, but if you'd like to build a spaceship to the Spirit of Destiny's specifications, it really will take you to Jupiter! ($300 billion budget not included.)

Killshot, the last book in the Earth's Last Gambit Quartet, will be published soon.

Felix R. Savage writes hard science fiction, space opera, and comedic science fiction. He has also occasionally been known to commit fantasy.

Felix has a long history associated with rebellion. He was born in the 1970s, a decade of American youth rebelling against the safe culture of their parents. He is married to a wonderful woman and they have two beautiful daughters. Together the four of them live in Tokyo serving their cat overlord and benevolent protector. Felix pounds the keyboard while not translating, delighting in his family, or catering to the whims of the family’s cat. He woke up one day to learn that he was a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, but he continues to keep a low profile, and never stops watching out for any sign the lizard people have found him.

Prepare to be Savaged in this masterpiece of Sci-Fi adventure, that leaves you stunned, awed and captivated as you follow the desperate plight of the crew of SoD in their attempt to stop the Lightbringer reaching Earth.
I don’t want to give away any spoilers here, because this is a gripping story, one that you really have to read to fully get, and giving too much away would be a crime.
There are two main streams to this book, one following the SoD, and the other following the Lightbringer.
The main characters (those still alive after the mauling at the end of book 2!) are still there, Jack, Alexei, Giles and Skyler, along with their Rriksti counterparts rescued from Europa, aboard the SoD, cobbled back together with the help of their alien friends. This opens up some interesting relationships between the surviving crew and the aliens, especially Jack and Keelraiser, the leader of the Rriksti on the SoD. Savage does a wonderful job of creating this totally ‘alien’ race and the alien communication between them. As the story has evolved (from book 2, through book 3), the relationship with the aliens has been utterly fascinating and one of the highlights of the series. Savage has done such an incredible job of making this interactions a part of the story, making it that much more interesting.
This is an incredibly character driven story, and as such Savage has made sure that there is a lot of depth to his characters, with exceptional interactions that really make this an outstanding story.
The character that is an absolute standard is Hannah, taken by the renegade Rriksti aboard the Lightbringer, and made their surrogate leader at the end of book 2, her tale in this story is brilliant, horrifying, and totally captivating. Savage has outdone himself with the writing of Hannah’s rather enthralling journey – a journey that started all the way back in book 1. Hannah’s development has been fascinating and she is one of the pivotal characters of this series, and what occurs to her in this episode is beyond stunning.
Overall, this is the best book in the series by far, even though we have lost some of the characters, those remaining have really evolved. The desperation in this part makes for a thrilling, captivating and utterly compelling adventure tale that you just can’t put down.
If you have been reading this series, then this is an obvious read, and if you haven’t yet, then this book is the reason to get into this series so you can read it.

Felix R. Savage is an evil genius. He is the author responsible for the thrilling Earth's Last Gambit series, and if you have not read Freefall and Lifeboat (books 1 and 2), do yourself a favor and start there. Shiplord, book 3 in the series, is the the reason I burned dinner, missed my trash pick-up day, and lost a night's sleep.

It takes an evil genius to write a novel so compelling that I forget food, forego sleep, and abandon the years-ingrained habits of daily living. Here we have an author so diabolically talented that he makes a ten-year round-trip voyage from Earth orbit to the surface of the Jovian moon Europa and back into a heart-in-your-mouth, edge-of-your-seat space race, with the survival of humanity at stake. He makes a species of bi-pedal, bilaterally symmetrical, flat-faced aliens with seven-digit hands (one opposable thumb per hand) who communicate via radio frequency emissions into a cast of characters who are by turns exasperating, endearing, puzzling, comforting, helpful, and violent. He pits humans against aliens, humans against humans, aliens against aliens – I mean, this is book 3 and we still can't tell with 100% confidence who the bad guys are! Earth is in economic, political, and social chaos, and the alien vessel Lightbringer is on its way there with captive propulsion engineer and functional alcoholic Hannah as its Shiplord. Spirit of Discovery, now a mash-up with an alien space shuttle and a part-alien crew and career astronaut Jack Kildare at the helm, is in pursuit, and the two ships duel across the solar system with projectiles from nukes to space junk. Seriously, this is the best-written ship vs. ship engagement since C.S. Forrester's Hornblower series. The opportunities for betrayal and for heroism abound as the damage, the casualties, and the suspense mount ever higher. This is that all-encompassing, can't-tear-myself-away, agonizing suspense that can only end in crash-and-burn...oops! No spoilers! Suffice it to say, the end of the novel is not THE END - told you the author is an evil genius. The suspense, the dare-devil spaceship manoeuvers, the skullduggery, the ever-deepening connections between characters human and alien, the fate of the earth – this book is addictive. I'm committed to reading the last one when it comes out, but I'm only gonna start reading on a weekend because of - you know - that can't-put-it-down, burned food, sleepless thing...

I had the privilege and honor of receiving an advance copy of SHIPLORD from Felix Savage. This 3rd part of the EARTH'S LAST GAMBIT series is a nail biting can't stop reading it kind of book. Jack Kildare and his motley crew of humans and aliens aboard the SPIRIT OF DESTINY are in a desperate race with Hannah Ginsberg, shiplord of the LIGHTBRINGER, to reach Earth. Jack needs to get there first to warn of the imminent and very real threat of invasion. Hannah is, as the only human on board, pushed to bring the aliens to Earth first herself. Although there's a lot of science terms sprinkled liberally through the book, I managed to get to the meat of the story. Savage has outdone himself in this 3rd book, leaving his readers to wait not so patiently for book 4, KILLSHOT.

Please hurry book 4

I hate to wait for the next book and worry about what will happen next. I have been on the edge of my seat so long I am afraid I might fall off. I have to say that this technothriller will grab you from beginning to end. The characters are so real and the story so realistic that it will scare you. I am afraid the suspense will kill me, so please finish book 4 Felix.

This is the third book in this series following the trials and tribulations of the first astronauts to make contact with aliens. Now they are in a race against time to save earth. A well written story with amazing characters, both human and non-human.

This book does a good job on continuing the series. Honestly the series is starting to drag a little but the book and premise is interesting enough to keep going. If you like this keep going is good not great but good.

Hard science, soft porn...

Good story and good character development but enough already with the alien sex. Sheesh. You'd think everyone would have more to worry about than getting laid.

The series is getting to an end

Personally I found it least interesting than the previous two books, with some really good passages and chapters, the rest are more of a imaginary surreal description of survivors everywhere, in the SoD 300 something Riksty and 4 humans in the Lightbringer 1 human and few riksty and few thousands a sleep riksty have it better but life is an orgy of violence, alcohol and sex and Earth is surviving divided between a crazy group that has split slowly countries and reshaping the political aspect of humanity and the last survivors from what used to be sovereign countries trying to survive the division and preparing for the invasion.
Can it be a future for Humans and Riksty together? I guess we will see it on the next book.

A FRS. SYFY. Novel. (ELGB - 3)/Departure Jupiter/An Almost Collision with IOS/Strange Benefactors/Alien Friends

FRS. has. penned the third novel in the Earth's Last Gambit, which shows the will to survive in all species, even aliens. The human crew, minus three, and the two different species of the Alien survivors are just as bound and determined to survive as are the Earth staff. It is a constant haggle making the sections of the spacecraft livable for all. This allows all to participate. The arrival at Earth has insurmountable problems . They shut everything off and do a fireball entry. This is an excellent read for the genre.....DEHS

Good story

The characters behaved in ways that were consistent with their situations and outlooks sometimes and other times stepped back from reality. They reflect how real people react and think in crises but it bothered me enough to question the plot at points. I realize that I've come to expect more linear storylines and then I wanted to give it five stars. I went back and forth a few times.

The writing was still good and the plot still gripped me but my suspension of disbelief bounced up and down. I think it was more me than the book. I'm ready for the next installment.

Heading home while dancing with chaos

So our brave, interstellar heroes are on their way back home and chasing the death of humanity. With them they bring the friendly side of the alien threat and they find that we’re all not so very different after all...and yet we are. Confused? Good! Read the book to figure it all out..ok some of it...there’s another book after all...which reminds me.... amazon kindle store is on my horizon!

Still Mediocre ... Bordering Lower

It’s not so much that the plot of this Book #3 has SciFi in it — that actually, is it’s primary GOOD point. The problem is the social interactions between all the characters stinks ... the ‘alien’ mind and lifestyles are not well explained, and the human relationships are even more poorly written — to the point that it’s confusing AND not believable.

Fiendishly addictive!

Smart, funny, heartbreaking, terrifying...these books are all these things. Be prepared to neglect your sleep and other duties until you've finished them. I'm begrudging the time to leave this review as I've already purchased the next book. Bye, suckas! I'm off to the next one!

Okay, but was very slow in places. The psychology and sociology aren't as interesting to me as the quasi-tech stuff. The sex made me a little queasy in places too.

Not sure if I'll go on to Killshot.

Very good book

I enjoyed reading this book, it took me awhile due to other obligations, but the ending was quite surprising to me. Looking forward to the next book in the series. Now, especially if is hard to put down.

Conceivable SF, believable characters. Wear a raincoat.

Assuming warlike aliens get stranded in select ship in Europe orbit... You can't help be involved. There has been a drought in hard SF. This series is a deluge.

Part 3 of the series.

While the underlying story was ok it did descend into little more than poorly written soft porn in places (human/human and human/alien sex). The story is more sci-fi than previous parts but remains more Dan Brown than Asimov.

Fantastic

This book was awesome! Two different species come together to help each other survive. They live, work and play together. This particular book in this series was especially emotional. I shed more than a few tears. You come to know and love these characters. I can't wait to see what happens next.

The science was very interesting, the story concept was great. The character development was lacking somewhat. I don't think it added anything to the story to have Hannah being a high functioning alcoholic unless it was necessary to develop that for the alien form of krak. The aliens were too human in nature to be believable. Finally; sex with aliens??? C'mon, That one aspect pretty much ruined the entire experience for me. I won't be reading any more by this author!

Of the three books thus far in the quartet, I feel Shiplord is a step in the wrong direction. It felt as if the story was written, and it was too short, so a bunch of odd sex scenes were shoehorned in. There’s some great action in Shiplord, and you pretty much have to read it to keep up with the story, but I just didn’t care for it.

That’s not to say that the rest of the writing isn’t excellent – it is. Like books one and two, there is a lot of cool hard science fiction that’s no too in-your-face. No one will nerd out or anything. Whereas in Freefall and Lifeboat, there is a constant political undercurrent that interests me specifically, in Shiplord, the politicking seems to not follow the established canon from books one and two. The characterization established in books one and two seems to fall apart where Hannah was concerned. She seemed to be acting contrary to how I’d expect her to act. Finally, you all know I’m not a fan of cliffhangers, and Shiplord is the cliffhanger-y of them all.

If I had to sum up what I don’t like about Shiplord in a single word, that word would have to be “rushed.” Now of course, Felix R. Savage’s “worst” book in this series is still better than a lot of science fiction out there. And despite my quibbles with book three, I’d still recommend the entire series to any sci-fi fan, especially since the books are all in Kindle Unlimited.

I’m awarding Shiplord only four stars, and I cannot wait to read Killshot when it’s “published soon.”
