Wind Words: waking up to a new conversation about God, yourself and the world

Rate this book
There's this passage in the book of Revelation where Jesus is sending seven letters to seven different churches. He ends each letter with the same question and statement:

"Are your ears awake? Listen. Listen to the Wind Words.
The Spirit blowing through the churches.” (The Message)

We all have different ways of thinking about God and the Bible and ourselves and the world around us. We think that the way we think is normal, but the reality is we are looking through a lens. Like a pair of glasses we don't even know we're wearing. We inherited these glasses from our parents and our teachers and our favorite TV shows and our religious, or not-so-religious upbringing. Throughout the scriptures and human history, it seems that God is constantly seeking to expand our vision. Giving us a new pair of glasses. Teaching us how to see. How to think. How to hear.

I believe these Wind Words are Always speaking. The Spirit is always moving. Jesus is always writing a letter to his churches.

The question has never been, “Does God have something to say?"

The question is, and will always be . . .

"Are your ears awake?"

Rob is one of the most genuine and humble dudes I have ever read. The book reads a lot like Love Does by Bob Goff but leaves you with more questions than answers, which seems to be exactly the point. Rob doesn't want to answer your questions, he wants to point you to the still small voice of the Spirit of the Living God and let Him answer your questions. Rob has an affectionately dorky sense of humor that literally made me laugh aloud. But he also exposes the painful parts of his soul which literally made me stop in my reading and seek the Lord. I am grateful to have read this book and look forward to reading whatever else the Wind Words lead Rob to write!

This book brought up some great questions and an urgency to tune in to what God is saying to us here and now. It was written in Rob's true fashion that I've witnessed listening to his sermons at church: dripping with humor & personal stories/vulnerabilities, an understanding of the cultural context of scripture and the original words in Greek and Hebrew, and of course, an intense love and curiosity of who God is and wanting to share that with everyone.
