Three hundred years in the future after stringent population control and eugenics programs have been adopted as the salvation of mankind, tensions on Earth drive a variety of malcontents to accept the singular opportunity to colonize Mars in exchange for reproductive freedom, but their varying viewpoints on the issue result in bitter conflicts and reluctant alliances as they struggle to forge a new path by salvaging ancient wisdoms cast aside centuries before

If you like your SyFi full of explosions, ray guns and car chases in space this is not the book for you. If you like to explore the possibility of what if, if you like intelligent, thought provoking visions of a possible tomorrow, if you like your characters relate-able, human and possibly otherwise this IS the book for you. CL Fors weaves a tale of conspiracy and rebellion that employs conjecture based on real science and takes us from a bleak future for humanity on Earth to the reclamation of our humanity on the red planet. It's a fantastic read.
I've had the pleasure of reading this book and the author is very detailed and prolific...this book takes you on a journey of wonder and a scientific realm that keeps you on the edge of your seat. It makes you think.
The great cost of humanity's unregulated growth has long been a topic of supposition and theoretical discussion over the years, and with it, the equal concern of if limiting birth rates and reducing numbers is truly an ethical and wise decision meant to help both us and the planet we happened to live on or something which risks humanity and its moral worth without warrant. With Progeny, Fors begins a discussion on this very topic, utilizing many levels to speak about what it is to be human, to be capable of procreation, what it costs to sever such a vital piece of our identity and culture from ourselves, and what it means to hold the power to reclaim it again knowing we might risk all the destruction humanity led itself to again.
Here you will find well-developed characters with complex thoughts, perspectives, and a wide variety of experience facing a new life after much of humanity has long since perished and we have become something more inorganic and highly processed in order to supersede the nightmares of plague, chromosome breakdown, and insanity which overpopulation and pollution caused. This is informed science fiction with a narrative about society and motherhood, one which seeks to convey an idea of what such a world might think of both our own existence and the life they had come to see as normal after our time had long since passed. I hope to see many more books from Fors as this was highly satisfying and genuinely engaging in ways that stick with you as you read and open avenues of discussion over the subject matter as well.
Progeny is a novel about Earth to Mars colonization that could be called bio-science-fiction. The tale follows the main character Theresa, as she battles for the right to save progeny that have been destined for termination. At the beginning of the story she discovers that she can save only one, before escaping on a mission to Mars.
Don't expect a lot of action and thrills, as most of the plot is in the tension and conflict between the characters and organizations that think they control women's reproductive rights. I don't want to give too many spoilers away as you'll want to read it for yourself. This story has a good pace, and I enjoyed learning about the main characters and what the Earth and Mars are like in the future.
Looking forward, I hope to read the next two novels in the story as they’re released.
